Awesome. I'm a rookie without shame. Finally I can continue playing it (stuck at some 3rd boss or something). I'm an aging gamer with the attention span of an orange.
I'll not support this sh*t. Then again, I'm old, this is for the "new crowd". Everyone born in the 80's is "on the way out" anyways (at least pop culture wise). Everyone who is now 10 years old will grow up to love this cr*p. If Nintendo goes this route, it's the final console I'll leave behind for good.
The events of the past 2 years, everything combined, from the covid craze to the digitalization of every aspect of our lives, to dev studios dumpin on their employees AND customers and journalism losing every bit of credibility it's easier than ever to turn your back and say "funk it, I'll be sitting on my swing in the forest". In a way I am grateful for so many institutions and individuals showing their ugly faces, if I'd be religious, I'd be thinking we're living through the apocalypse, the unveiling of hidden things and true meanings.
Imagine you could fine politicians that kind of penalty for all the lies and ***** they are doing. One can dream. This doesn't impress me. It's just a big corporation ripping someone a new one and making a few lawyers even richer. I guess he learned his lesson after the first few mill...
This is garbage. Too little too late especially compared to their own virtual console on past consoles. It's 2021 and I'd expect BASIC functionality from an online service like voice chat and messaging. Besides that, I want to browse a library of hundreds of retro games and just get those I really want/need.
But hey. There are other means to play them anyways - and Nintendo isn' doing much on their part to discourage you from using them.
I love Rise even though I haven't played it in a while. Still thankful for these micro updates, but they don't do much for me personally. What I want is monsters. But yea, Sunbreak.
@Ventilator GPU functions/instructions is not the same as raw power. Don't make an argument out of this, I loved the game cube but graphically it was weaker than the XBOX and couldn't hold as much data on the tiny discs, which often led to compressed files, worse textures and worse sound.
Still a grand little thing. XBOX was great too but had many "generic games". Gamecube kinda like suffered the fate of the Wii, because of lack of power third parties started to drop support, which was a shame. But first party titles on Gamecube, one of the best eras of Nintendo imho.
F* it, I can still remember firing it up the first time. I loved the Gamecube even though it was quickly outpaced by the XBOX, but this game still held up nicely with lots of trickery. Just like the original SW movies. Loved it. Good times. 20 Years. My god. I feel ancient.
Love the theme and generally can do with the "Touryst"-esque Artstyle. But still, a bit more animations and maybe voiceacting (even if japanese) would have added a lot to the atmosphere.
Loved GTA V's freedom to fool around with your friends in a private online lobby. Would do that again any day, but no one's playing it anymore. Or I don't have any friends anymore. Whatever...
@nimnio What I actually meant is, I enjoy books, movies and art in general as escapism and don't always need a political comment on real life events or social events, one way or the other.
To stay with your examples, I don't want gay characters in Harry Potter if they don't make sense storywise and are just there for representation. If it makes sense, I don't mind. I don't want Optimus Prime to lecture me on my privileges and I certainly don't want games to make me feel bad in any way, if I want that, I just watch TV.
That's what I meant. Political commentary? Yeah sure. But all in good measure and please not onesided.
@JayJ I totally agree. "Stripping the world of its natural resources could have proved an interesting narrative thread."
We're all writing on some kind of device that was brought into existance by exactly that. This website is running on servers made from rare earth materials. We all get it. And personally, I wouldn't mind going full AMISH to be honest. All of this tech ***** has gotten out of hand.
THAT said, let games be games, books be books and movies be movies. If you're on this planet for about 2 decades or longer, you already know about the things that need improvement or change anyways.
@NEStalgia I have to agree. I wonder how society would go if the younger generation would reject tech toys as much as the older ones do, from the getgo.
@HedgehogEngine You give me hope. Please tell me that all your friends around your age see the world with your eyes... That was spot on. You're invited to come and build a frugal commnity living in the forest like Ewoks. sigh one can dream.
@BloodNinja The closer to old you get, the faster it becomes. And yes. Simple and functional. Less stress, less blinking lights and less notifications. But I do see a trend, a small one though, of people, even half the age of me, wanting to opt out of that whole smart-city mumbo jumbo the world economic forum is pushing for our digitized future.
You know what's the most sophisticated, elegant, simple and functional tech for me? Bow and arrow. And that's 10's of thousands of years old already. How's that for "anti-planned-obsolescense".
If you wanna talk about growing old and "out" of society's norms, hit me up.
@BloodNinja It's just being jaded as a grumpy old man. I remember the times when I was "on the edge of tech" with my first "smartphone" way before the first iPhone (it was that fancy, overpriced Prada thing). Now I like fountain pens. And typewriters. Stationaries too. I like fire. Like, real fire.
I have the dreading feeling that tech is moving way faster than our social advancements. Same with all that Metaverse crap. It's just another way to hate onto each other without owning up to it.
I have to admit, I am old. That said, I think this is a *****, useless trend. On one hand they are urging us "prepare for blackouts and energy shortages" and on the other hand: "put everything into the cloud, pay for meaningless digital property". Yeah. Sounds like a great idea.
I rather colleckt rocks, they'll be around thousands of years after I'm gone...
@Dm9982 Haha, we have a similar career. I can handle "western" suspense/horror/thriller/scary movies really well (mostly jumpscares anyways). But asian horror is something else. The japanese version of Ju-On IS in fact creepier than the american version. Also Ringu or the korean "Tale of Two Sisters" holy mother of god...
This series give me the creeps. I mean, seriously. There's something about asian horror that completely gets me since watching "Ju-On" for the first time. Ugh.
Yeah whatever. It's a hard sell right now, especially with all the bad emulation problems they have. Would so much prefera VC over this garbage. Buying individual titles or unlock each system for 10,-/year flatrate and customize your subscription that way.
Blizzard and many other high-end-crunch-companies just suck for a plethora of reasons. This name change doesn't matter one way or another. No one cares and no one cared if it stayed the same. This is not even lipservice. This is our society in a nutshell. "Oh look there's abuse left and right!" - "Here's a pot-plant with a diverse set of friends and a mysterious past." Media: "Yes!"
Who cares. Bad deal. Not worth it. Sega should rather expand their classics collection thingy. That was a grand collection and could do with a few more obviously missing titles.
There is a certain aesthetic to that greenscale images that has been ingrained in my brain, even though it looked way worse back in the day. Got a soft spot for gameboy games.
@JustMonika Yep, time flies. You see it especially with pets that go over the years, kids that grow up and the cycle of videogames you play and how the tech progresses.
Really loved the older games of that era, not only MK. I remember things like Battle Isle and Jagged Alliance fondly only a few years later on PC. And yeah, like you my first preorder also was MKII.
@Spiders True! I'm perfectly happy with that and I also think that 3D graphics on a 2D plane works perfectly well for some genres. Think about fighting games. All that background-hopping and crazy stuff in the 3D Mortal Kombat games before the 2011 Mortal Kombat? Awful. If "free movement" doesn't benefit the gameplay, then it shouldn't be done.
Metroid is a masterclass in this. Like you say. Love the transitions and the "sense of scale" they achieve.

Best surprise together with that new Strikers game. LOVED Frontmission. This is gonna be awesome!
Re: Apple Arcade Game LEGO Brawls Brings The Fight To Switch This Summer
Well if they put some more effort in it, I'd love the concept. But it looks pretty shallow tbh.

C64 is what I had when I was about 7. Even then I found the games to be rough and basic. Not sure many want this. But hey. More is better I guess.

@sdelfin I also think "TIMESPLITTERS" looks still good for its "timeless" graphic style.
Re: Talking Point: Is There A Better-Looking 20-Year-Old Game Than Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II?
@Ventilator who mentioned sales? I just meant XBOX was more powerful than gamecube by a lot, still Rogue Squadron looked the part.
