I'm a slow, old fart. Stuck with the first real boss for a while now (that tail-whipping-thing), only improving slowly. My pattern recognition is about as fast as that of a mountain.

@UmbreonsPapa I'm totally with you on that. I even liked MK1 better than MK2 because the sprites looked more realistic, they seriously upped the saturation on the costumes for MK2. And now, looking at all the 3D Mortal Kombats we have, after all these years they still look like cartoons and a digitized photo of a real actor will just be better in my book!

I'd love them to just 3D-scan real actory in costume and even keep the colors and everything intact and work with that. Also I enjoyed the "more plausible" fatalities of the older games. Not every fatality needs to end in a fountain of gore and mangled eyes.

@Specter_of-the_OLED Didn't know that since I quit the series after the 2011 Mortal Kombat (which I loved for nostalgia) and yes it indeed DOES sound really lame!

I grew up on Mortal Kombat, back in the day when coming home from the arcades and telling my friends about the "killer game", no one believed me. And the same thing repeated a few years later when I told them about "friendships" in Mortal Kombat II. Pesky little fools...

Anyways I wonder if this upcoming anniversary will bless us with the rumored MKI, MKII and MKIII-Ultimate HD-Remasters/Remakes. Would love to play them all over again as I enjoyed the simpler times, back when MK was still 2D and not such a goofy ULTRA-4K-SLAUGHTERFEST it is today.

@Octane If you think it through, when all humans are gone, things ought to be better, if you just wait long enough. I once read even the largest cities won't be around for much longer than 1.000 years after people have died off. It's an interesting thought, especially if you think about all the "out of place artifacts" that are found around the globe, we could have been at a similar stage in our development a hundred times over and always botched it and started anew a few thousand years later...

... make sure to leave a time capsule for the people after us, just in case we're again due for an extinction event...

@westman98 I don't know, how do you? I'm sure there is some market research and guess who would be the potential target demographic of a more expensive, capable Switch "Pro"? Surely not the normies trying to get a deal for Jimmy's Switch at Walmart.

@westman98 Unfortunately you make a lot of sense. And the remaining option, an upscaler, would as mentioned indeed add input lag. Maybe Nintendo won't care. But players might. It's just odd to me that they released the Switch OLED, clearly knowing that everyone who follows tech and gaming news was waiting for the PRO and will be disappointed by the OLED.

Hm. But on the other hand, Nintendo often does "weird" things and to the average consumer, it won't matter, they might even get the OLED (not knowing there's anything else) for little Karen and those waiting for the PRO will either hold off or get the OLED anyways.

Still, now the Steamdeck will get lots of the fanfare that was to be had for the Switch Pro. Ah consumer's lifestyle.

@SwitchForce Sure they can co-exist, I just think it's way easier and cost effective to put whatever hardware is needed to enable 4K on the TV in the dock than in the switch itself and depending on what the USB-C port on the Switch OLED is capable of, there could still be a "beefed up dock" coming to enhance output on the TV. The Switch OLED makes sense in many constellations.

@SwitchForce I know what the OLED model is and isn't. I don't think that the latest bloomberg reports are all garbage, that devs have 4K dev kits for Switch. I still think there's some truth to it and the most logical, most Nintendo (i.e. cost saving) way of doing something like that, would be via the dock. There are standalone upscaling thingies around 99,- I don't think some fancypants Nintendo upscaler in the form of a dock for about 149,- isn't too unreasonable. Again, just speculating, we don't have to agree!

@westman98 Personally I don't hold my breath, just think that this is highly likely and possible. Maybe it's not a dedicated GPU, maybe it's just a CO-GPU or maybe even just a dedicated upscaler. I don't think that there will be a 4K-capable Switch CONSOLE in the forseeable future. And as I said, I'm speculating. None of us knows.

@westman98 Yes, right now, with this model. I'm only speculating anyways, so you might be right. Still, I think there's more to it and that would be the most viable way of doing it.

They are not lying. The Switch OLED IS the Pro. But what makes it Pro is not the Switch itself. It's the dock. A "PRO DOCK" will be released later on. The Switch is fine for mobile gaming and with the OLED display batteries might even run a bit longer. 720p for Handheld is fine.

Everyone remember how there is now a setting about updating the dock firmware? Which dock? This one? No. Another one coming out, it will just be like an external GPU on a Laptop. You will have your Switch pro 2K Resolution being upscaled to 4K via Nvidia's magic in docked mode.

So... Switch Pro = Switch OLED with updated dock further down the line, most likely around BOTW2 launch. They are not lying when they say, there is no new model coming. True. New Dock is coming. It's really simple to read between the lines and in my book it's what makes most sense. Power when docked, everything else is not sustainable in such a small form factor without upping the cost significantly.

This way also PARENTS have a choice. Switch OLED will be fine for most. If they want, they can upgrade to the new dock without fragmenting the userbase and all games must still run in handheld mode (and on the old dock).

It's basically the same model like with Nintendo ONLINE now. Base + Premium Upgrade if you want.

I do get the hype. I understand people are waiting for this. But I think this is the most "not for me" game I can name off the top of my head.

@TheRedComet I'm absolutely with you when it comes to performance. M-chips revolutionized consumer computing hands down. And yes only the "PRO" models are over 1.000. My point is ALL of their phones are hugely overproportioned in performance compared to what the average user wants and needs. Yes, you could film your whole Indie movie on your iPhone and edit it too. But who WILL? Everyone else is paying for that kind of performance when it makes absolutely no difference for the most part.

I'm rocking my ancient 2016 SE that I bought refurbed and I am perfectly happy still. Perfect formfactor and I never thought "hey those photos could look better". I know, that's just me and I am mostly a fringe case, and I know about their "new" SE and I actually welcome that move. So, why not dump 4 year old tech in an affordable iPhone for the masses and keep it around 300? And yeah, except customization I don't see how Android phones are better than iPhones. And about security and privace, they ALL sniff up on you and sell your data, so...

Loved the original game. I don't care for anyones skin color or sexual orientation. I do care though if it gets all the attention and story telling and skill take a backseat for politics. Stop it. It's proven time and time again: GET WOKE, GO BROKE. Most of the gay people I know are absolutely no LGBTQ+whatever activists and just live their lifes to be happy and that's how it should be!

Will pick up when on sale. Looks nice.
