@kingbk You're not serious are you? This is a list of hidden gems that flew under the radar of a lot of people, not games that are well known, loved and adored already by many people.
Love that 'This strange realm of mine' is in, that really is quite an experience that I urge everyone to play. You likely won't replay it but it's a brilliant take on what can be done with gaming and the story it tells. It is however more an experience rather than true game so to speak.
@Moistnado You are simply missing out on a wonderful game.
Being a Switch player you should appreciate performance and looks are not everything, while admittedly with some things it is a shame, but it is the price we pay for the power and portability of the console.
@The_Pixel_King If you have fancied it for about a year, the chances are very high that you would enjoy it, so absolutely give it a chance and take the plunge
It's price-point I feel is more than reasonable for what it is, tied with rrps being typically more expensive nowadays, this could have easily passed as full rrp imo. In fact the fact it wasn't made me even more interested. Further the fact it's made by 2 people primarily is astonishing and deserves the financial support.
Lukewarm reviews statement is a bit off really as there has been some blinding ones too, it's metacritic is more than reasonable too.
As for backlog, we all have one, but out of the games you have stated, this one is quite different and could fit in pretty well to alternate between this and say DQ.
@AndyC_MK84 You cannot judge on who someone is just because you don't agree with what they do or done. That's just outright ignorance.
This guy clearly had a passion for collecting games, if he wasn't a "gamer" I don't know what he is.
Further you are disregarding what they may have got from what they are doing, again because you don't seem to understand it, it doesn't make it invalid.
Broaden your horizons, or at the very least, your acceptance.
@Kirby_Girl You always could transfer to pc by way of putting the memory card into one.
@Devlind While I agree, the only ones that don't are the ones where exploits or hacks could work as a gain, so Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, DBZ world mission. It is a pain but you can transfer the save data to another console then to a new one.
@Keiichi98 Well you somewhat alluded to it, but it's ultimately down to how much has been spent on it, the game itself and all the advertising an that's why 5m is a flop for it.
It is an awkward situation for some games but I feel part of the hit for Avengers was the lack of MCU being a part of it. Certainly threw me an made me less interested, in a big way.
So the joys and cons contradict.... -Nintendo-level presentation and polish and then -Single-player performance could be better -Co-op performance is laughable at times
They are some pretty bad negatives for a first party (yes I know Ninty didn't make it) and certainly without the typical Ninty polish.
It's a shame there couldn't be allowed this much time to review Sakuna as this review is unnecessarily big, almost as if you get some sort of payment to review bigger games.
@gojiguy I'd imagine the real major holiday release was Mario 3D all-stars, but I agree with your sentiment in that there has been an amount of 'this is decent but not must buy' first party releases for this holiday season... 3D all stars, Pikmin 3, this.
@WhiteTrashGuy I don't think this is the case, I think it is the fact that there has been a very real global pandemic that is still ongoing, the fact there has been many releases still happening due to it really is something pretty incredible.
@SpacedDuck They do, but they won't, ever since the Gamecube (albeit started to become properly noticeable with the Wii) they have clearly opted to be there own and not focus on graphics or performance in that way and it has worked for them. Last gen was still incredibly powerful, the Switch pro if it happens, won't be anywhere close to as powerful.
I'm not entirely convinced this kind of game is for you, an looking at what reviews you have put out recently, they must take quite a bit of time an seemingly with this kind of game you have to want to play it rather then be forced to due to needing to review. I think this idea is reflected in your review. There seems to be this aura that 'it isn't really for me', 'that I don't have the patience or the time'.
It sounds like it is definitely an 8 if you take away these points.
There seems to be an amount of negativity for the fact they have even done this. They can't change or sort every problem that people had, the fact they have done this and said about it should be commended, applauded and tbh, be enough.
@kupocake Character models were never going to change from what the demo showed (it's style is very reminiscent of the other two games in the series but 3d), was likely set in stone already and ultimately not something they would be willing to change, same goes for the graphics as a whole.
I think some people too might be missing what feedback can actually be implemented. As an analogy, if you have bought a house, it stays that house, you can by all means decorate it (change ui + other fixes), but to change how many windows it has is a much bigger deal.
@RR529 Lydie and Suelle was the first one I started with too. But before playing I had already decided I'm going to love the series, certainly was ready to fall in love with a slice of life JRPG (slice of life is generally great, for me anyway).
I bought it, then the import (Dusk trilogy- sucker for imports), then Lualua, Nelke (town builder) then Ryza (French copy at a great price, before the reprint ended up coming XD).
Then I finally played it. An it's weird really, in that I don't love it but I do like it, it's got oodles of charm and genuine humour, likeable characters, enjoyable battle-system and the general 'hooks' (encyclopedia, quest board, story, crafting (which is still a bit confusing)) are really quite good and make it feel deep. Has Monster Elements to it with the gathering and hunting for specific materials.
As JRPGS go it's very pick up and play, can be a short session, can be a long one. I do however miss the saving the world kind of storylines you get with typical JRPGS though (I gather this is what Atelier is typically like?), so it doesn't quite scratch the JRPG epic itch but does happily create a new itch. Perfect to play alongside an epic or intensive game, turn it on and lay back to just enjoy.
Since it stopped having updates it has definitely lost it's magic, there isn't really anything to go for and more, no extra boost(see experience) to unlock and work for. The challenges seem lesser too and it still isn't easy to get coins so most extras are still locked behind the grind. This wasn't so bad when there was a need but now it is hard to keep going.
For the above title to be apt it would need to anime stylised, which it isn't, sure it's of interest but certainly lacks a bigger interest in it due to the lack of this.
If they can't get this onto Switch, they need to take a long, hard look at there development team. It's far more akin to Octopath than FF7R. You could even argue the Switch should be it's home.
Further with their talk of if there is no Switch 2 they will have to develop for Switch, well tbh, good, I don't want their to be a Switch 2 yet or perhaps even then so i'll be keeping my fingers crossed there.
@Menchi That's unfortunate wording. Tbh though, if they cannot get this on Switch, there is something seriously wrong with there development team, it clearly isn't groundbreaking afterall.
From absolutely no expectations, this was a mind blowing direct, admittedly i'm more talking about the full one in Japan but still. SMT3, SMT5, Ryza 2 and a new interest in Sakuna are all; great announcements.
Although I will admit, if you don't like JRPG/niche, you won't think much to it at all.
I think one further thing we should realise (that going by the poll most haven't), this is a 'Mini' direct, not anything huge so shouldn't be treated as such.
@mazzel @johnvboy I wholeheartedly agree, this guy only ever comments to be negative. We all have opinions sure, but his input has always been questionable at best.
@Zanzox Yes, I called you out for being a troll as that is exactly how you were coming across, apologies if this offended. But it was by no means an attack or something to be taken personal, since you have declared your age, i'm surprised you did take it personal, but that is besides the point.
Yes everyone is entitled to an opinion, an all have differing ones. But when you state "Wow you can customize a bad game..." that is outright being a troll, especially on a game like this where there has been a huge divide due to it's performance.
You can not like the game but it doesn't mean it is bad. An as metroidvania's go, it's one of the best ones for a long time. Critics and fans agree, just the Switch port is where the issues arise, not the game itself.
@JR150
I think you are missing the bigger series that started before Naruto DBZ was very much what started it all on PS2 typically, but it did have other games on earlier consoles.
@Zanzox Very funny. Let's feed the troll. Evidently you haven't played the game or even like this genre. Congratulations for wasting your time reading an article and commenting about something you don't like. Bravo.
This is great news! Implemented far quicker onto the Switch than any of us expected.
This part though is really good and very unexpected--
That's not all, though, because this new update is also patching in some other changes. In a bid to let fans access content as quickly as possible, some in-game features will now be unlocked right from the start.
Unlocked from the start, including new profiles and existing profiles that have not beaten the game:
@Shinobi1Kenoby In your opinion, the opinion of who likes it is wildly different.
The players are not strictly wimps, they go down to get a free kick or penalty, an over react to make sure it's seen(the amount of fouls you can suffer and never get if you don't go down is horrifying), admittedly they go down far too easily a lot of the time, but they are not wimps per say. Some call it game management, others cheating. I'd rather football be honest so lean to the latter.
Big announcement? Hah, who are they trying to convince? Themselves? Think they got confused and were actually meant to unveil Pokemon Snap this week and this f2p moba monstrosity last week.
Whoever is in charge of the PC's pr and marketing badly need firing XD So many misfires in just over a year.
7/10 seems a bit generous. Surely it's only like a 6 at best, due to its rathe size-able issue and ludicrous price.
Should have expected this from EA really looks at Fifa 21 being another cash grab but there was faint hope this may actually be a glorious remaster, as it turns out its a horrific cash grab!
Honestly if it wasn't for the skate series there would be nothing good that actually comes out of EA anymore and even then we will have to wait a long while.
@PlzUnderstand While you pose a valid point, it is 'lazy' imo. Especially when you consider they would have worked on this alongside US/M, it's the first new generation to ever appear on a 'home' console an when it turns out it wouldn't be surprising if they managed to get this on a 3DS, that's when you know what they done isn't good enough, thus lazy.
Don't get me wrong, I think the game is great, but I'm not blind to its pitfalls.
@NintendoPok They absolutely do have a right to an opinion, that is the most floored and ignorant logic ever. It's like saying you can't have an opinion on politics if you don't vote, despite the fact it affects you everyday in ways you do not even realise.
Remember, everyone has an opinion and they have a right to it, doesn't make it right but perhaps you should come down to earth and realise everyone's opinion matters rather than just people that done or bought XYZ are the only ones that matter.
@Zenszulu But we should expect it otherwise it will never evolve and suggest to The Pokémon Company that what they are doing is perfect, which it simply isn't. Sword & Shield where the first new generation to come to a 'home' console, yet they opted to cut corners an make a slightly better looking S & M, so much so you would not be surprised if it was somehow on 3ds. I'm not saying it's a bad game as I do think its one of the better ones of recent memory, but I feel you need to stop accepting that it is ok and that it's what they do as a viable excuse. Especially when they had never done DLC before, an then of course they have.
Further, so much of S & S's marketing has been a consistent case of shooting themselves in the foot, they should learn but instead (unless this announcement next week is something ground breaking) they really don't seem to have, consistently disregarding fan outrage and barrelling on through like nothing has happened just isn't good enough.
@SortingHat Funnily enough, this is an article about S & S's expansion not BOTW 2, I also think you are burying your head in the sand a bit or believing things to be true that just aren't.
What we have heard about BOTW 2 is exactly what we thought we might hear, were you not around for BOTW development? Announced and showed as if its a Wii U exclusive, took forever and an age to come out and frankly never really did see much news about it, when it comes to BOTW 2 we have heard more than we ever seen for BOTW especially in the time frame.
Remember you can have your opinions, but remember they are that, not fact.
Also laughing at how to spell a Japanese name or any of them is just disrespectful, when you then try going deeper into their ethos and ways of life like you know simply makes you look a fool.
@Octoguy The Pikachu is surely The Pokémon Company stating that BLM.
I find this thread quite funny from the perspective of people moaning about a Pokémon Direct, it isn't Nintendo that has done this, it's The Pokémon Company. It never said anywhere that this was to be a direct.
Now I read about the Johto Go, I think it probably is that, I hope it isn't though. I thought it was surely D & P remakes but on the Sword and Shield engine. Although I would love it if they blew us all away and done the D & P remakes on a better engine, as if to say we know we were lazy with S&S on the visuals front primarily, so here. Especially when seeing New Pokémon Snap, while they try to claim it isn't in game footage, they later say at the end for one shot that it is very early game footage. If they can do graphics that good for snap, they sure as hell can actually try to do something somewhat similar for a mainline Pokémon game. Heck do Pokémon BOTW!
@TheFullAndy It's a very different market and to be honest not very surprising. I mean I've only briefly played it myself and I know all about it's praise, but i'm simply never driven to play it despite having the ability too.
Not at all surprised, Game have indeed been horrific for a number of years now, I used to think I would miss them if they disappeared but in actuality, due to their prices primarily, they have just been awful and not remotely competitive. When they upped there postage price to £4.99 on the website for any item was also a bit of a joke, that is astronomical in the scheme of postage prices and for me was the final nail in the coffin.

I bought it, then the import (Dusk trilogy- sucker for imports), then Lualua, Nelke (town builder) then Ryza (French copy at a great price, before the reprint ended up coming XD).

Re: Review: Pokémon Sword & Shield - The Isle of Armor - A New Wild Area Worthy Of Your Interest
@Zenszulu
But we should expect it otherwise it will never evolve and suggest to The Pokémon Company that what they are doing is perfect, which it simply isn't.
Re: Random: So Much For Level Scaling In Pokémon's Isle Of Armor DLC
@SortingHat
Funnily enough, this is an article about S & S's expansion not BOTW 2, I also think you are burying your head in the sand a bit or believing things to be true that just aren't.
Re: Pokémon HOME Update Finally Gets Rid Of 'Impossible' Trade Requests
Disappointing that this suggests there are only 3 all new Pokémon on the Isle of Armor.
Re: Pokémon To Reveal A 'Big Project' Next Week In Second Presentation
@Octoguy
The Pikachu is surely The Pokémon Company stating that BLM.
Re: People Keep Buying The Wrong Pokémon Sword And Shield DLC
@Razer
Woah! Dead game, wow. You should get your facts right really as you just make yourself look foolish.
Just because you don't like it, it does not make a game dead, an I say this because I've seen you comment before on a game you don't like to slate.
Re: Japanese Charts: Animal Crossing Keeps Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Games From Top Spot
@TheFullAndy
It's a very different market and to be honest not very surprising.
I mean I've only briefly played it myself and I know all about it's praise, but i'm simply never driven to play it despite having the ability too.
Re: UK Retailers Guilty Of Inflating Nintendo Switch Prices As Stock Remains Elusive
