There is an argument to be made that this is exactly what they were hoping for with regards to the game key cards.
@Smug43 No, expect game key cards, except from the real cheapskate publishers.
@OTBC87
"but it feels like they should have just scrapped physical media this generation and reserved the cart slot purely for Switch1 software."
Fortunately you don't make the decisons, that would absolutely be a horrendous call.
Your next statement too is something you are claiming to be right, just because all digital works for you an you are not phased by X and Y, it doesn't mean that's the way. Surely the uproar on game key cards has told you that?
A complete hate bear non article. MAGIC!!! Again, get better Nintendo Life!
The updated article doesn't sound correct either. What is explicitly stated is that save slot 2 data can't be transferred back, it doesn't say the same about save slot 1 data but the article is choosing to believe it must mean that.
@LastFootnote I disagree, I don't tend to sell either, but code in a box is complete garbage of the highest order. It's single best attribute is spare cases, but even then what a waste of plastic.
Should game card key replace it, fantastic, but it doesn't seem like it does and cheaper publishers are just decidng to go the cheap route and do game card key only which I do not agree with.
The ability to sell, and lend, it not being tied to your account, far outweighs the need to put the cart in.
While I see where you are coming from, your answer is to just buy it digitally from the eshop in the first place. I think we can agree, physical all on cart is what is wanted, but GCK is better than CIAB.
@garfreek I do agree they are most definitely making it hard to keep in their corner for sure, I don't think any fan would disagree with that. I mean if X amount of details was actually shared in the first place then the hate would not have been so bad for parts or maybe even against them in the first place, but then Ninty often march to their own beat, part of what makes them great but also absolutely infuriating.
With your point though, headlines like what they used and glossing over the more important positive point does not help the perception.
@Yoshi3 Yes of course it should be, It's pretty irrelevant if something should be, if its not, than thats a problem, with all the hate and hate articles which certainly do not help, it further exacerbates the perception. Thus it is good news, no matter what way ytour slice it whether you believe otherwise.
Your mugged analogy is completely stupid, it's nothing like that, it's not even related, however for what that's worth, yes, getting mugged less is good news.
You have decided you want to hate, keep going, your welcome too, but you are letting every negative let you hate even more, that's the problem with hate. That's why positives should be noted and shared. The world is screwed enough as it is, without all this.
They claimed game card key was a far worse code in a box, which it isn't.
Now they aren't even sharing the good news as the title or a seperate article so just trying to breed more hate (more clicks?).
The switch 2 games are complete on cart and actual switch 2 carts, not a dlc code for the upgrade/expansion.
Frankly, if you are believing the headline you have put, you can believe the other rather than what you said in the first paragraph.
@Anti-Matter
You really do often miss the point....
By this logic any Wii U port to Switch we don't want.
That logic has definitely been proved right hasn't it?....
Anyway, while i probably wouldn't buy it due to bouncing off it on GC and Wii U, I absolutely have voted YEEESSSS as I know so many people want it, an the reveal on the direct for what it was made me feel rubbish for the peeps that do want it.
@Jireland92 I would love to believe that's the case, however the fact that Bravely HD which could easily fit on a cart is onr of the game key cards, strongly suggests this is not at all the case.
If its replacing code in a box, it is infinitely better, the issue is going by the box for Street Fighter and Bravely, they are these game key cards, which unfortunately likely suggests a heck of a lot more games will be that. Thus very few actual real physicals.
That is the alarm and the headline should say as much.
@blindsquirrel Not exactly no, they are however effectively install discs like old pc games. So you still have the capability to have a physical (albeit yes there are many and sometimes large updates, which does likely mean not all data was on disc), but you certainyl can't play it right away.
While I appreciate the sentiment of the article, arguably it is too much.
The pitchforks shouldn't neccersarily be out for Ninty.
It's absolutely remarkable how many people on the thread dont seem to know abount the Sony's PS5 RRP of 70£ for the triple A games, whether MK is all intents of purposes a triple A, it certainly is from a Ninty perspective.
This, for a cartridge which always costs more, then of course the adage of Ninty tax, a 5£ bump in cost is hardly outrageous.
It isn't Ninty doing it first, its other companies, an its already happening.
For a bit of perspective standard rrp for switch triple A is 50£ bar TOTK which was £60. While yes you can read it as a 25£ increase, games have often always cost more on the newer console, an other companies have already done it. unless we literally stop buying new games, and everyone does it, nothing will change.
@Solomon_Rambling While I agree with your sentiment and it sure would be nice if games were released complete. We are so far away from that age now you have to credit devs that stick with and continue to improve post release I feel.
@johnedwin Remake of course, was always going to have far more hype and it's release window in a time when games were selling like hotcakes due to the pandemic are 2 big reasons.
@Hwatt How can you call it a design flaw? Moving discs inside an electrical, of course you dont move or turn upright or on the side when on, that's common sense, not a design flaw.
@Qwiff Was there really a need to spoil the ending?
Seemingly everyone has been saying their points without it ruining key plot points for people who haven't played the game yet you opt to say that, all you needed to say was "that cheap ending" or something of that ilk.
Thanks for changing the effect the game will have on me due to that knowledge.
For me: FF7 - would probably be the grind to master materia thus stopping me doing so all together. I get its there in a sense to add longevity, but it's already long anyway. That has reminded me of Enemy Skill materia, cool idea, but don't have skills locked behind parts you can no longer get too. That while similar to getting Siren from an early boss in FF8, isn't quite the same as I feel that's more a reward if you hpen to be looking or trying to use the games mechanics.
FF8 - Probably the junction system, I both love it and hate it.
@5th313ment Considering the showers of sh*te we have had on Switch for Fifa, an the other developers that consistently do this in regards to cart size, I think you are being too critical.
I think we should credit what they actually done from a game perspective rather then cart/download/update etc, which isn't what game reviews are judged on.
@munstahunta Except it wasn't getting bad reviews across the board and it isn't a crappy game, yes we all know and agree it could look better and definitely should perform better. But your points are false and devaluing the Pokemon fandoms and spreading yet more negativity around it.
If you take away the performance issues, it is objectively one of the best mainline Pokemon games there ever has been. So many people however are not seeing that because they only hear the negativity. It is a shame they have to miss out, but equally it is also a big shame that GF seem to refuse to patch,. Performance issues have never then meant the game is bad for me, an they never will, but I absolutely cannot defend it from a performance perspective, but I certainly can from a game perspective.
This point however is seemingly valid- "So why would they bother making it work well they made their money and the Pokémon fans will again blindly buy the next Pokémon game."
Although I would say this; I have been a Pokemon fan from the start, I love the series, an they have far more good in the bank then bad, so yes, I will support the mainline entries.
Woops! I missed the digital sale and now it is gone... For some reason I assumed there was more time and apparently thought we were still in May.
I do have it physical in a sealed state, but I would have picked up the digital to not have to break the seal. NVM guess I'll have to break it if I really want to play it XD
This was a great article for me to see at a perfect time when I was going through it for the first time
I have now since finished it, missed Warmech off the bestiary on original play, but the complete save allows you go to wherever you need to so rectified that, because I wanted too, that being an important factor here.
I didn't know what to expect with the game, part of me wondered if it would be akin to Final Fantasy Adventure (the first mana game, loved that! Took me by complete surprise) an a part of me had heard that it just isn't very good and rather difficult.
Now in regards to difficulty, I have to assume the pixel remaster has been made easier (I know there are the xp gain and gil changes you can do, I left them as standard) as bar two occurrences, it was a cake walk, the biggest difficulty spike in the game was the final boss. Yes there was some difficulty to an extent with mechanics not explained to you like with the mp/magic and the ability to use gear as items to trigger abilities, but that isn't real difficulty an I found it satisfying and rather eureka like when I figured it out.
Although I have to be honest, it wasn't until I read about the church in this article that I realised it revived characters XD Never once used it.
Anyway, overall, distinct lack of story, but what a charming concise adventure it was with a rather satisfying game play loop, it kept me away from Tears of the Kingdom post launch weekend, until I finished it and that is saying something.
It made me happy and satisfied that I managed to get the physical collectors edition of the pixel remaster, an I look forward to playing through Final Fantasy 2 when that arises.
Sure FF didn't have the same imprint on me as FFA, but I did still rather enjoy it, far more than I ever thought
p.s. thanks for sharing the poster and manual @Penguin, an for other comments, it's been a really interesting read.
At this point, they are better to just say nothing.
All this reads is there is another update coming an age away that fixes issues bought about by the last update.
That of which they had not mentioned a thing in regards to performance post it.
I'm happy to play it, have been from the start but with the point of them being aware of performance issues and continuing to do nothing about it is very poor, especially when they are already flogging the dlc.
This is pre sword and shield marketing all over again where they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot. Cmon GF and TPC, you are better than that.
Every time Advance Wars and now this, or games like this get referred to as an SRPG I'm staggered.
I can understand some members of the public not realising the difference and thinking they are, but games news article writers should definitely know and stop calling it a genre that it isn't. Yes there are similarities, but it is a turn based strategy game, not a strategy role playing game.
You do not get levels, you do not improve your units, units do not bond, they do not permanently die, they are not characters (COs in Wargroove is a slight anomaly), they are just units that you buy and use. An the story itself if any, is generally much lighter.
@Joker1234
The issue with your statement is that they do actually put effort in, that much is very evident in a lot of it, just not the desired effort for you for example or others. Sure I know full well S&V could perform better and look better, but they are still joys to behold.
Also, it is ok for Pokemon games to not be for you anymore.
I am absolutely staggered by the lack of compassion shown by many in this thread, the game was delayed for very real reasons and right ones too, think of humanity please, an the people that have lost their lives and are suffering and sadly will continue to do so.
This is only a video game, an lives and peace are far more important.
In a time you absolutely don't want to upset an unfortunate unhinged world super power, you don't then do so by releasing a parody of them at the time it was all kicking off.
While yes I do think that ship has sailed and they could release it now with no issues, then and in the third of the year post it, they absolutely couldn't.
I am also rather shocked how many people assume a turn based strategy game is an SRPG too, it really isn't. Sure you can still compare it to FE, but that isn't exactly fair, it's more comparable to Wargroove, Tiny Metal an other games of that ilk, where there isn't really that many.
@Nuclearpineapple It probably does but may not, it is however already live on the UK eshop so suspect it is dropping everywhere today, so I would just wait.
@Beaucine "...but it's ultimately a stealth sequel (because the existence of the original is part of Remake's narrative) that sends the post-Midgar plot into unknown territory."
I think you have watched some conspiracy videos about where it is potentially going due to X and Y and thus then believing it to be a stealth sequel, which it hasn't been confirmed to be and likely isn't but is exciting, whether it's clutching at straws or not.
Yes I grant you there are strong parts that suggest it could be going elsewhere, but that is also exactly what you want from a marketing and hype perspective for the next part. It keeps new fans intrigued but also none the wiser and old fans either excited or cautious about where it will go, both add to hype.
An if you wanted FF7R to be the original literally with modern graphics, then you likely didn't like FF7R in the first place so they won't be aiming for that backing knowing not everyone would be happy.
For me, I think it will keep fleshing out story elements that were insinuated but were not shown or show it deeper or make some characters a bigger part of the story, but it will ultimately tell the same one.
@wildarctic It was never meant to be or intending to be a DQM game, so to not recommend based on something you thought it was going to be is not a good recommendation at all.
@SonOfDracula Suggesting 1-3 are where DQ shines is a big stretch. Saying 1-7 is where it is at also shows you are very much a retro style jrpg fan rather than the modern fare. 8 is fantastic, 11 is better than fantastic and is one of the best jrpgs of all time.
@Ogbert
Except it does, you and the many people who bash it are exactly why it does, hate spreads faster then love, always has.
Saying it is unfinished is a stretch, it needing more time to run better is fair.
Basely together, I can only assume you mean barely, which just isn't true, it isn't and doesn't break every minute or anything even close.
An If S&V are what an average game is, then all I want are average games, I would then consistently have my mind blown.
You say you are not judging on bugs, but you clearly must be as the core game is very much finished which is clear every step.
What is it you are expecting from it? Perhaps you had too high expectations?
While its a shame you are not getting from it what I have and many, many others, it doesn't mean it is therefore average, perhaps it just isn't for you anymore?

Yes there are similarities, but it is a turn based strategy game, not a strategy role playing game.
You do not get levels, you do not improve your units, units do not bond, they do not permanently die, they are not characters (COs in Wargroove is a slight anomaly), they are just units that you buy and use. An the story itself if any, is generally much lighter.
Re: Round Up: Everything Announced At The Level-5 Vision 2023 Showcase
So sad about Yo-Kai, still no 4
Edit - Although world wide release on Inazuma is a massive plus.
Re: Review: Fire Emblem Engage - Relationships Get Sidelined By A Thrilling Combat-First Focus
@TheFox
You shouldn't, Valentia isn't generally regarded as the best one in the series.
Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of December 2022
@Joker1234
The issue with your statement is that they do actually put effort in, that much is very evident in a lot of it, just not the desired effort for you for example or others. Sure I know full well S&V could perform better and look better, but they are still joys to behold.
Also, it is ok for Pokemon games to not be for you anymore.
Re: Nintendo Direct Confirmed For Tomorrow
@Sisilly_G
I think the recent WarioWare: Get it Together was enough on that front.
Paid DLC, watch it be for the poorly supported Mario Strikers.
Hoping for the Advance Wars release date myself, physical versions of Kingdom Hearts and Persona 3 & 4 would also be welcome.
Further to that, bring on the surprises, they often do
Re: Advance Wars' Delayed Switch Release Might Finally Be Reporting For Duty
Re: Reminder: A Theatrhythm Final Bar Line Demo Is Out Today On Switch eShop
@Nuclearpineapple
It probably does but may not, it is however already live on the UK eshop so suspect it is dropping everywhere today, so I would just wait.
Re: Review: Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion - The Series' Goofiest Writing Returns In A Thrilling Remaster
@Beaucine
"...but it's ultimately a stealth sequel (because the existence of the original is part of Remake's narrative) that sends the post-Midgar plot into unknown territory."
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Dragon Quest Treasures
@wildarctic
It was never meant to be or intending to be a DQM game, so to not recommend based on something you thought it was going to be is not a good recommendation at all.
Re: Review: Romancing SaGa -Minstrel Song- Remastered - A Classic JRPG Full Of Innovation And Frustration
@johnedwin
69 on metacritic really is not bad, considering even great niche games can struggle getting close to 80, 69 really isn't bad at all.
Re: Review: Dragon Quest Treasures - A Trove Of JRPG Goodness, Perfect For Beginners
@SonOfDracula
Suggesting 1-3 are where DQ shines is a big stretch. Saying 1-7 is where it is at also shows you are very much a retro style jrpg fan rather than the modern fare.
8 is fantastic, 11 is better than fantastic and is one of the best jrpgs of all time.
Re: Feature: 14 Things That Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Get Absolutely Right
@Ogbert
