@Ogbert In your opinion, an yes, at the time an probably now it did need defending, people were only hearing or seeing the negatives rather than the phenomenal game underneath, this is the kind of Pokemon game we often dreamed about.
Is a port a multi platform release that comes out at the same time?
I'm not convinced, albeit P5R definitely is despite coming elsewhere.
Capcom fighting, Cowabunga, crisis core, are not ports for me. Especially when the former two should have no qualms whatsoever running on the hardware.
I like this list a lot, not because of rankings but the clear variety of preference compared to my own is stark but also really nice. It shows that someone loves even the perceived worst Pokemon.
@shonenjump86 More fool you, its a fantastic game, sure it does have performance issues and it could look better, but it doesn't take away from how good the actual game is, or at least for me. This is speaking pre patch too.
Taking stock in the negative has only hindered you having a whale of a time imo
@Rykdrew I disagree, CDProjekt Red delayed Cyberpunk many times and months and it still released as an apparent broken mess.
This here has never been delayed but also has many releases/merch/shows etc linked to it so is not as easy to delay. Not saying that is right, but is what it is.
We know Ninty are always a bit quiet even on big problems so i suspect it wont affect perception of them in the slightest, especially when they could wash there hands of it with only being the publisher.
@F_Destroyer Note they could have been working on this prior to release and likely were as they knew it wouldn't satisfy. The trouble is they couldn't really say that or let on how the performance issues were. They knew the release date and that had to be stuck too.
@fox_mattcloud That isn't surprising, often older consoles gens that we would now say is in the past and stop selling still get sold there. The funny thing is, they can sometimes not be that much cheaper.
@Pikki Except if that were really true, then it wouldn't be such a sticking point for a lot of people.
Sure it isn't to you, but you must realise many people see the score and decide whether to completely disregard it, bin it after being hyped, or potentially buy due to how high it has scored.
Reviews like this for a popular site should at least have a couple of reviewers for the bigger games to come to a balanced conclusion, it's as if they don't realise how much sway their review scores have, which I feel is negligence to the gaming community & fans/followers they have.
I understand we all like different thinks, but this site isn't acting as an individual, it's speaking for the website itself and putting their opinion.
@RupeeClock I actually disagree here. For what the switch is, you fully expect issues or lacking in graphics, it is after all a handheld that isn't young, which I do feel is often getting lost, especially in recent times.
Considering a couple of the miracle ports we have recently had though, there is evidently still life in the machine.
Let's also consider the jump from sun & moon on 3ds to sw&sh on switch, it wasn't exactly extravagant despite the hardware improvement, so what really makes you think it would be different with a switch 2?
While yes a more powerful machine would in theory solve issues, it doesn't necessarily. Many games can end up performing poorly on much better hardware.
"we couldn't help but feel a little let down by some sizeable performance issues."
A little let down? Wouldn't that only knock a point off? While it probably isn't a 10, by the sounds of things it could well have been a 9, so how do you justify knocking 2 points off? What would the score be if it didn't have the performance issue's?
@Joeynator3000 That is a really bold claim to make saying you don't care about fps and resolution, PLA was absolutely fine if you don't are about them things, an even if you do, it really isn't that bad.
That was a hate I never understood for PLA, it's almost like people had to find to something to critique as that is now the cool thing to do (even since dexit) to Pokemon games.
"It’s a small country so portable gaming isn’t as big"
What a way to prove you are just thinking of some potential reasons why and listing them. Portable consoles aren't just for use with transport/journeys, which seems to be the opinion here. Ludicrous.
@phartsy Dam, are you anything else but negative? Brighten up, the world is a grim place as it is.
@Grail_Quest @Bobb Gravity defiance got me good too, I then wondered if it is actually a common thing with the Toriyama style on games, but I don't know.
@LittleGhost It is a worldwide release, digital deluxe also often means extra costumes or a little bit of dlc comes with it, it wont be anything huge.
Also making it your last Square purchase if it doesn't wow you is only hampering yourself in a big way. I would urge you not to be so close minded in that regard as it will only cause you to miss out on the many great games they publish or develop.
Tbh, I really didn't think it was bad at all, certainly not deserving of the hate. It seems exactly like what you should expect from a BOTW style Sonic game.
Although I did feel it should have been a bit quicker to accelerate and the legs not spinning round in circles when running fast did irk me XD
@twztid13 This is something that for a long time I felt, I also felt it just generally with old school rpgs and their pixel art. Then something happened.
I couldn't quite tell you when or where the chibi (while I still prefer non chibi) acceptance came from, SD Gundam Crossrays may have had something to do with it, but it could have been something else, maybe even BD2.
With regards to old school the fairly recent love of metriodvanias likely helped, but the key for me was definitely first mana game that I played through on Switch (Final Fantasy Adventure) a year or so ago. I then found that view point/feeling broke.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it is possible that there will be something you want to like or randomly play that breaks them feelings and then you can
@Abeedo I feel you are forgetting the consoles they were developed for or rather what the first BDs were for, thus the art style would have had limitations on what could be done. The style for BD would have been done in such away (excluding the painted backgrounds) due to technical 3ds limitations, it also went hand in hand with that then being a style, thus BD2 rightfully followed it. May not be for you but BD2 looks great to me.
@Silly_G I mean it hasn't really, it's going to be due to the date windows of it as to what has been sold. Note that BD/SP are two separate games, Legends is just one and has managed an astronomical feat.
@Kyranosaurus Sure, but it is still proof. You don't need to be a games developer to know this.
Put it another way - If a turbo meant for a Ford Focus RS (PS4) can be put in a Ford Fiesta (NSW) and work/run, then, this new turbo can also do the same. It's not saying it won't take effort, because it will, but it certainly could come over.
The developers clearly have this weird fetish of thinking the Switch 2 is around the corner, considering when the campaign got announced, it's clear their Switch 2 thinking ended up being realised as the OLED and thus Switch 2 isn't actually coming anytime soon. Why however they wouldn't want to put it on a console with a huge install base (why else did they put it's prequel on it) is bizarre really, just do it already, you already made far more money then you ever expected on Kickstarter, let alone the money you will then make from sales.
It's a bit of a joke really, they have already been paid and are going to get more. Stop with the excuses and get on with it.
It's a shame they seem to be so allergic to colour these days with the pro controllers. I'm not a fan of Splatoon but I do love the pro controller for it. It's very well done. I love Monster hunter, but the basic/subtle changes for it make it a no for me, same thing with the limited edition console they done for it. They would have had a buyer had it actually had some colour.
I'm waiting for something similar (maybe with pokemon?) to replace my Splatoon one as it's not in the best state, albeit considering it wasn't when I got it, it has lasted tremendously well.
@The_BAAD_Man I annoyingly had issues getting the zapdos also so think i may not bother with the moltres. Done 5 battles this time, won 3, checked the other day and i couldn't get the prize, checked the end of the event weekend prior and still couldn't.
