Update (Sat 1st Aug, 2020 13:00 BST): Level-5 has announced it will release a demo for this game on the Japanese Switch eShop on 3rd August. According to Japanese Nintendo the release of a packaged version and western localisation is still undecided.
Original article (Fri 31st Jul, 2020 05:00 BST): Japanese company Level-5 has a major announcement planned for the upcoming Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 release, Yo-kai Watch Jam: Yo-kai Academy Y – Waiwai Gakuen Seikatsu.
Fans can find out more when it premieres its “Yo-kai Watch Jam: Yo-kai Academy Y – Waiwai Gakuen Seikatsu – Academy Y Online Student Meeting” on 1st August at 7 pm JST (that's tomorrow). You'll be able to tune into the broadcast on the company's official YouTube channel.
There are no details about what exactly this major announcement will be. Yo-kai Watch Jam: Yo-kai Academy Y – Waiwai Gakuen Seikatsu launches on 13th August in Japan, so perhaps it could be a physical edition announcement.
Of course, what we would like to see is localisation - and maybe Level-5 could also release Yo-kai Watch 4 here while it's at it (but we'll try not to get our hopes up). This post will be updated when more details are revealed.

Is Yo-Kai still a thing?
@DrDaisy Judging by this article, yes?
groan
I was hoping it would fade away like Pogs.
I really hope they localize this and/or Yo Kai 4, with good advertising, I feel like this series could definitely be pretty popular everywhere else
@DrDaisy Yo Kai Watch is extremely popular in Japan
I wish we could get Yokai Watch 4 here. 3 was such a poorly timed release since it was at the end of the 3DS lifecycle and had such a low quantity produced that it quickly shot up to $100 in the after market.
@DrDaisy I miss pogs! and Tazos! Those were the days...
cant wait for 4 to localize
Wish there were some measure of update on Yo-kai Watch 4 for the West. Haven’t heard a thing since it was confirmed for localization at Anime Expo last Summer. I wonder if they were waiting to have all the DLC content come out first to make it comprehensive like 3 was. And since the West essentially gave up on the medals after YW2, they’re probably seeking to make it like Snack World where there’s no external mechanic with the toys.
One thing I wish they would do with 4 for the West would be to treat it almost like a reboot and do away with the ridiculous westernization of the clearly Japanese influences of the game as had been done in all the prior games. But the chance of that is super low given returning characters from 1-3 and how much it’s still aimed at younger audiences (even though Shadowside was meant for older audiences) And it makes me hope we’d get some localized form of Shadowside and the movie for clarity on the newer characters and their respective worlds/times
I love yo-kia-watch I have been waiting for this game and 4 to come to the usa its taking forever. just to be sure is this game coming to the west?
@Wilforce For real, I wish Level 5 could localize their games faster, they consistently put out quality, but we're always left wondering when we'll get them.
@Emob idk why it takes to long but it needs to be faster, there is a western fanbase to you know!
Is that Pokemon Gen 2 rival character?
@Doofenshmirtz
IT was, not so much anymore sadly, admittedly still popular enough, but far from super popular.
Still, couldn't care less about this one, I want number 4 already, taking far too long to bring over!
I m a hardcore Yokai fan but even I find these Academy series just meh boring.
Oh yeah. Still no Yo-Kai on Switch??? How is that possible? I find that strange.
Level 5! Listen up! We want Yo-Kai Watch 4 localized in English PRONTO!
@Wilforce wait really?! I bought it at launch when it was new. I beat it, loved and immediately grew out of the series.
I know what I’m doing tomorrow.
Cool, another Yo-Kai that won’t get a western release. I’m not even bothered about dubbing, I’d take subtitled versions
@WoomyNNYes Yo-Kai Watch games have been on Switch for years already. This is the 3rd one so far.
@DrDaisy Japanese franchises don't really care about western apathy to remain alive and successful. If you need examples of that, look at Case Closed or Crayon Shin-Chan.
Personally, I'm quite looking forward to this one. Was skeptical about it at first but then watched the Y-Academy anime subbed and really loved its premise and I especially love the character Momo.
At first glance, this game reminds me a ton of Level-5's other game Fantasy Life on 3DS and I quite enjoyed that but now it's in a high school setting. According to other articles, this game has multiple endings including a harem one so I'm even more interested.
@ZionWario Seems strange not to release for North America region. (No yo-kai games on NA eshop) I wonder what the deal is?
@WoomyNNYes
They're on the JP eShop like all the other games the west has yet to get.
Unfortunately, this is nothing new. As good as Level-5 is in terms of writing and game design, their localization is very slow. It took 3 years before Snack World and Yo-Kai Watch 3 became available in English.
What the f*ck I have to wait so more before this comes to the west screw you level 5.
