Artplay and 505 Games have released the latest patch for the Nintendo Switch version of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
The highlight is the addition of Bloodless as a playable character. She's one of the bosses that featured in the Boss Revenge Mode update back in the July update. Apart from this, the new update also fixes some bugs and resolves some other issues.
Below are the full patch notes, courtesy of the official website for the game.
Version 1.18:
Bloodless Playable Character
– Name a new save file “BLOODLESS” to access the new playable character.
Randomizer bug fixes
– Fixed the algorithm so it wouldn’t create invalid seeds
– Implemented safety chests and lamp, so previously invalid seeds can now be completed. These safety chests will contain the required item to complete.
Randomizer number of possibilities
1152 combinations from settings:
3 GOAL x 2 KEY ITEM x 2 SAVE/WARP x 3 ITEM x 4 ENEMY DROP x 2 CRAFTING x 2 SHOP x 2 QUEST = 1152 combinations
65,536 combinations per set
The seed consists of 31 bits. 15 of those bits are used to store the settings generated by the initial choices the player makes. The remaining 16 bits are used to generate the randomness in the seed.
2^16 = 65,536 combinations.
Total number of possible combinations for the entire mode:
1152 settings x 65,536 seed combinations = 75,487, 472 total combinations.
Other Changes
– Fixed issue with clan names showing in Save File Selection Screen
– Fixed an issue with clan names in credits
– Fixed minor audio issues

Not a fan of the voice acting for her. It sounds a bit... uh... unnecessarily spicy...
@Tourtus so you like butch sounding voice actresses?
@CharizardEmperor I don't really care how she sounds, it's the moans and groans she makes that I don't like. No one makes that kind of sound when they are hurt or when they exert themselves.
I'm assuming the bloodless trailer does not include janky Switch footage? Instead of creating new content they should work on fixing the original base game on Switch.
@Moistnado I got this game in October 2020 and I thought it looked and played quite fine but I am aware that when the port first came out it looked like total poo-poo
Mathematical!
@Moistnado they already fixed it
@faint oh wow. We really need a review update, because if it runs properly, and doesn't look like trash, it might be worth a look. That said, considering the state this game was in at lunch, I won't take your word for it that it was fixed. I'll go online,see if I can find new performance, footage.
@Tourtus She can't help it if she likes it rough.
Other than the fact that her dress trail doesn't lay flat on angled surfaces (which I feel could've easily been fixed), this looks to be a good update.
@SMUGSLOTH69 and as someone who got the game in June 2019, I'm not. It's played fine in my experience for as long as I can remember; even the touted "fix" update a few months later (when I had already poured many hours in) didn't seem to impact much outside the initial loading screen. Outside the trademark fan dramas, the mileage seems to have varied massively on this one.
@Moistnado I saw a difference after the fix but it can still turn into a glitchy mess. My final boss run was a joke last month, incredibly slow and graphics messed up, was waiting for a crash but Miriam prevailed
If the game is good now on Switch, I'd honestly appreciate a new review.
The game was already good, NintendoLife gave it a 7/10
@CammyUnofficial thank you for letting me know. People saying "it's fixed"... shame on you.
How do her clothes even work??
Really need to replay this at some point and check out the new content too.
Is this Game fixed on the Switch now?
Haven't followed the Patches
Are there other playable characters available?
@nhSnork I'm sorry for any bad experience you had with this port truly I believe that the port should be good looking and running and be done and ready as soon as you pop the game in but some ports need work like while I love A Hat in Time I was a first day player and it kept freezing and some areas and characters didn't look quite right I also bought Bendy on SWITCH in June 2019 and it also ran a little like poo-poo so I get how you feel
@LillianC14
I think it's like malleable, living blood.
@SMUGSLOTH69 um, my whole comment was about NOT having any troubles with this port. There goes my English badge, I guess.😅
@Kenchi okay in that case that's pretty damn cool.
@nhSnork oh sorry I'm kinda bad at getting the point of a comment sometimes sorry 😅
@Savino yeah I hear ya. But metacritic has it at a 74% so they were a little under the curve there.
@faint not quite dude they still need to fix the performance issues including a patch that needs to polish some areas of the game up.
@RiasGremory be specific
@Nookingtons LOL!! that’s one of my favorite cartoons/episodes
I've often thought about buying the Switch version of this game. Unfortunately, my OCD about lag and video capture would prevent me from fully enjoying it. A friend of mine suggested putting some kind of magical portal that lets you see into the future in front of the TV to solve the lag issue, but considering no such device can actually exist, it was unhelpful.
@faint some areas like the water/ground looks really rough
@RiasGremory compared to which versions? When it released it was utterly broken and almost unplayable. If the water or ground doesn’t look as good as you think it should, if still say they fixed it.
@faint the other consoles versions were completely polished up while the switch version was released broken and unpolished.
@RiasGremory it’s no longer broken. That’s the point
@faint this is disingenuous because the game is not as well implemented as on other platforms and does not look like the game in the trailer, shown on this webpage. Some players in this comment feed are still reporting gameplay issues due to poor performance. "Broken" is somewhat subjective. I expect on switch for a 2.5d game like this to run like in the ps4/xbox footage shown in the video, and at present it doesn't. This isn't cyberpunk or Valhalla, it should work switch better than it does at present. When gameplay is impacted by performance, this is a broken game.
@Moistnado when it was released there were several game breaking bugs that effected save data and made chests required to progress unreachable. It was broken. It is no longer broken. I played it when it was new and have played it recently
@faint I don't think you read my post... and yet you are responding to it. You're entitled to an opinion but I don't agree.
Robertson's spotted, neuron activated
@faint Mostly fixed. My game shut down several times for unknown errors in the last two days. Once was in the middle of a boss fight. X(
Slowdown I'm used to, having my game boot me off at any given time? That's still a problem.
I'll get around to playing her later I guess.
@Tempestryke thank you for your honesty! So much misinformation about this game, I think I'll avoid it.
@Moistnado
You are simply missing out on a wonderful game.
Being a Switch player you should appreciate performance and looks are not everything, while admittedly with some things it is a shame, but it is the price we pay for the power and portability of the console.
@Rosona Crashing and slowdown... sounds wonderful. Performance and looks are not everything, but this game does not meet minimal expectations. The devs know this version of the game is substandard because they keep misleadingly using ps4/xbox footage to promote the game. Seeing as this is a very simple 2.5d game, I'd expect it to look like the footage in the trailer, and I am sure lots of switch players have been duped by this sneaky marketing tactic. If, on day one, they showed people what they are actually buying, apologized for the inferior quality and gave a heavy deep discount to reflect the inferior product, maybe I'd get it... but no, they mislead switch users instead. The people who got this on release, deserve a refund.
@Moistnado interesting yeah and personally I wouldnt have bought it had I seen some of the gameplay issues that have persisted (I was a day 1 buyer). Some of it remains truly unacceptable, not a blemish or a quirk or something to look past and I'd say I have a healthy tolerance for such things growing up on snes. I'm 'glad' Bloodstained doesn't crash anymore (congrats on making a game that doesn't crash only after a patch?) but I was entering "is this how players get seizures?" territory with some of the graphics glitching hard last month
@Moistnado If your looking for something in a similar vein and haven't played them, I strongly suggest Aria and Dawn of Sorrow. Very, very fun.
@Tempestryke sounds good. I hear those games actually work properly.
