Next year, Nintendo is releasing downloadable content for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Switch. If you register the game before 31st January you'll receive the Piranha Plant fighter. After this, you can look forward to the five Challenger Packs - with each one containing a new fighter, new stage and new music. If you opt with the Fighters Pass, you'll also receive an exclusive Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Rex Mii Fighter costume.
Now, a recent discovery on Nintendo's official support webpage suggests more Mii Fighter costumes could perhaps be on the way. The website mentions how "Mii Fighter Costume" DLC will be available in 2019, including one costume for $0.75. As no further information is provided, it's hard to say what exactly it means at this point in time. This could be linked to the Rex costume - with plans to make it available outside of the Fighters Pass - or it could suggest Mii Fighter costume DLC is making a return on a much grander scale. Either way, it appears this DLC will be a separate transaction to the Fighters Pass.
It's worth noting, DLC costumes were previously offered in the Wii U and 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. when the Brawler, Swordfighter and Gunner Mii Fighters were added to the series as playable characters.
What do you make of this? Would you like to see costumes for Mii Fighters make a comeback? Would you be willing to fork out some extra coin for more DLC? Tell us below.

Given that the miis are actually good this time around and can be played online, these might have a point.
Against my better judgement, I actually bought a few Mii costumes on the 3DS version. I remember getting Viridi and Protoman, but the others escape me at the moment.
I barely use the Mii characters much as it is, and I've bought the fighter pass already. I'm likely not going to be buying any costumes this time around, unless it really hits me in the fanboy. It would have to be "Mikey from Star Tropics" level niche to get me to spend any more on this game than I have already.
I’ll bite if they’re interesting enough. And they actually look good on the Miis. (And they don’t make my Mii’s glasses disappear, which is super annoying!!)
All those Mii costume DLCS were the ones I disliked most in Smash 4. If they are included with the Season Pass, cool, if not, I won't be buying.
What about costumes for characters we actually care about?
They had some seriously cool costumes last time like Lloyd from ToS so hopefully we get an even wider selection this time.
okay but why tho
Was anybody doubting this? It seemed pretty obvious that Mii costumes would be added as DLC. Though really I wish instead of just Mii costumes they would add in Character skins as well. I want to Dress Megaman up as Protoman, or Sonic as Shadow.
Also, this runs with a theory I had a while back. Big leakers like Vergeben have been saying that Minecraft content was definitely going to be in the game, primarily as Steve being a fighter. Now what if Steven doesn't come to the game as a fighter, but rather as a Mii fighter costume for the Sword Mii Fighter, complete with a Diamond Pickaxe and a rather convincing Steven head. That would make sense as to why those leakers are so convinced Steve's coming to the game as a fighter. And it doesn't rule out Banjo and Kazooie as being DLC characters.
I like how they combine a new fighter + a new stage + new music as DLC. It makes sense. I have a feeling it's worth it for all the completely new content, but I'm not paying for costumes / cosmetic changes. I think those should be part of the Fighters Pass or free in an update.
If they want to make money they could give us an Expansion Pass with Stage Editor, Hit The Targets, Board The Platforms, Smash Run, Smash Tour, and Homerun Contest. Or a second Fighters Pass.
@SKTTR 1. I believe Sakurai said that he would be adding in new modes later on for free. he didn't say what these modes would be, but new modes none the less. And 2. there is a gift icon in the game, meaning that the game could get some free dlc later on that you could collect from the gift icon (Which is right by the shop icon) It will most likely be free Mii costumes (Or maybe spirits?) But I can't wait to see what the free gifts will be.
Sounds cool. Keep the stuff coming. ...Really looking forward to the Spirit events too.
Any Mii outfits really ought to be included with the fighter pass. The damn thing costs more than a third of the game itself.
Being the Ultimate Smash, these should be free content or added to the existing DLC pass. Most of us that played and loved the Wii U and 3DS Smash titles bought the DLC already, possibly twice
I went to town filling up my Ultimate game with all sorts of Mii fighters representing my favorite characters from cartoons, movies, video games (not already in the game), memes, etc. giving each one some unique combination of the special moves that each of the four moves can have. It's proven to be a lot more satisfying than it was in Smash Wii U, especially since we can take them online this time around.
Mii are nice now, so who knows
@Silly_G Considering there are only 5 new characters in the base game of Smash Ultimate (not counting echoes because the DLC fighters also won't be echoes) and four new stages (not counting Battlefield, Big Battlefield, or Final Destination since they are more like re-imagines, but even if you do it'll total to seven) 5 brand new fighters, stages, and more music seems like a deal to me.
I find the Mii challenges on World of Light are so over powered, and I'll never use them now that I've unlocked Cloud (not that I would have anyways)
Maybe some persona 4 miis
I’d just like a list of all the world of light Mii Fighters (like Ashley and Viridi etc.) and what moves the game assigns them. So when I make one, I can use those as basic movesets
Once again, our "ultimate" game is becoming less and less complete as content gets seperated for DLC. I'd still be interested in some cosmetic DLC (even though it should probably have been included in the 110 CAD package we already bought) but I would hope for at least full reskins of fighters, not just mii costumes.
Some new moves for Mii fighters would be nice. Outfits...eh.
Additional content that costs money? And it’s optional?? Just who does Nintendo think they are? Leroy, get your torch and round up the town. We’ve got some unreasonable mob pitchforking to do.
Would rather have character alt costumes
I wonder if they will have character costumes as well as Mii costumes. I think that would be interesting to bring costumes from different eras and games onto this one (Zelda and links different outfits, mario and peach's Odyssey outfits, Yoshi colors, Pokemon trainer clothes, etc) I think people would like these ones as well.
I love Mii gunner, swordsman is also good.
@Dodger Yay! I can now hope for Protoman, Zero, and........the Knuckles costumes!!!!
@LUIGITORNADO What? And miss out on the snazzy Knuckles costume!
@Lizuka I think Geno has even less of a chance considering all of the Fighters Pass characters are supposed to be guest characters according to Reggie himself. Guest characters basically means third party characters only.
SO GIVE ME DANTE OR VIEWTIFUL JOE PLEASE
Well all the third party costumes got cut from 4 to Ultimate, so it might just be reselling those to honor licensing agreements, likely with a couple new ones thrown in
I don’t okay as them, but I’ve been buying all of the mii costumes in the shop! There’s so many this time!
Gonna buy them all.
@MH4 My favorite is the Toy-Con Outfit! (However, it does get rid of glasses for the Toy-Con Visor Headgear)
@Reigestugatensho I’m real sad because, as a huge Labo fan who happens to wear glasses, I can’t have my Mii wear the full Toy-Con Outift without blinding him. I can wear the actual Toy-Con Robot with my glasses without any inconvenience.
(...maybe if I tell Nintendo I’m offended on Twitter, they’ll change it...)
I can't say I care enough about the mii's to buy costumes for them. I think this should definitely be left as a sweetener for the fighter pass as well.
That being said, I would probably pay for more costumes of virtually any other character. Most of all Fox, Falco, Wolf, Piranha Plant, and who every I finally decide will be my squad strike 5th. Probably a heavy like K Rool, or one of the mysterious dlc characters.
does anybody know if there will be more DLC for Ultimate than the announced 5 packs?
I think the Mii's could always use some more costumes. Let people really go in with their own "... joins SMASH" sorta thing. But what I'd REALLY like to see, is a new Mii class in Mii Spellcaster or something akin to magic-based abilities.
Good for people who use the Miis, but aside from playing them to unlock trophies in Smash 4, I didn't bother with them and therefore didn't get the costumes. Can't see myself being too bothered with them in Smash Ultimate either.
Seriously though, Mii Swordfighter is fun in this one. The chakras are a really great projectile, and gale force combos into up air or hero spin for kos, plus he's got a counter or reflect move. Also, forward air can really mess up heavy characters. I main Pokemon Trainer so far (specifically the one in
awful mustard yellow sweatpants so that my green squirtle looks like a koopa from Mario), but Mii Swordfighter is my second at the moment. Mii Brawler is fun too - really easy to KO, but fast with good KO options. Much better than Smash 4, at least. Mii Gunner is...Samus and Falco combined? At least he doesn't have Samus's super weird dodge roll. I'd like it better if the miis had some of their absurd personality from the 3DS games (Streetpass, Tomodachi Life, Miitopia, etc) since they kind of became characters in themselves beyond fitness obsessed island dwellers, but I'll take this too.
omg the mii swordsman is like my main man
really excited to see what they show off, now that miis are playable online. love seeing them shine more in Ultimate
@FTPinkRabbit im not sure about that, adding dlc wouldnt feel like its less complete to me with how complete the base game already feels
@LinkAtWild same here 🤷🏽♂️
@MH4 Time for another Nintendo Petition! (LOL)
in all seriousness though, I feel it should be changed. I need my glasses!
I used to play Swordfighter but moving closer to Brawler instead
That Final Smash tho
As if we really needed them. There seems a gigantic amount of costumes. I suspect all the Smash 4 dlc costumes are available in Ultimate!
