If you haven't played Hades yet, what are you waiting for? It's easily one of the best games we've played on Switch this year.
In saying this, there have been issues hindering player progress. In the Switch version of the game, some users have encountered a "rare" issue when attempting to load save data. According to Supergiant, a patch has now been made available.
The developer is also still hard at work on cross-save functionality (with the PC version of the game) and aims to have it up and running at some point next month.
In our Nintendo Life review, we awarded Hades top marks and said it was well worth a try. Have you been playing this game since its arrival on the Switch eShop? Tell us down below.

I'm actually curious to hear what my fellow Switch owners think of the Switch version.
I've checked the Steam reviews and they look solid, I'm hoping you guys like the Switch port since I may pick it up down the road.
It's held my attention for over a week of heavy gameplay. Definitely worth picking up.
@Kalmaro It's hard to explain. It's not perfect, but it's about as close to perfect as you can get. It has a very satisfying core gameplay loop.
In reference to the above issues: when my save locked I was really put out, but I was so into the game I just restarted it again. It ended up feeling like more of a blessing than anything else, because the game feels so good to play.
@Kalmaro
I love roguelike games and this is the best roguelike I have ever played. Losing is a part of the story, rather than just an inevitable element of this type of game.
The dialogue and gameplay cycle make it hard to stop playing. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.
If you like Dead Cells or Bastion you’ll love it.
@Northwind It's not very similar to Diablo. They're both action games, but that one's an RPG looter and this one is a roguelike. Still, I highly recommend it!
@KevinLo9 @MBH2013 That's some pretty high praise! I'll have to check it out soon. Thanks guys.
@Northwind think the first Diablo with a roguelite progression And all the bells and whistles of modern games.
Tight and varied combat system, awesome narrative and voice acting, infinite replayabilty.
It’s addictive beyond words.
Been playing it all the time since I bought it. Excellent game with a lot of depth.
I love the amazing artwork, voice work, storyline and action! The game deserves all the kudos it's been receiving.
@Kalmaro just to add my bit, think Dead Cells, but isometric. Hades has fun gameplay and a loop that makes you go: 'One more time'
@onery I wasn't sure if I should trust you, but then I noticed your profile pic and you suddenly seemed more trustworthy, thanks 👍
Joking aside, the game looks good and I'm glad to hear Switch folks are liking it too.
@Kalmaro It’s fantastic, plays very well handheld.
Im not a big rougelite fan but I love this game. I liked Dead Cell but I think this is much better.
The thing I like about this game is that dying doesn't feel like you failed. It feels like you are getting better with each try and making your own playstyle. The world they created is perfect for replayability. I like how each npc in the house of hades is not there every time so when you come back after dying it feels like they have their own lives within the world. The dialogue is so good I actually listen to it all.
I’m hooked on this game right now. The progression feels great, the gameplay is fluid and it looks absolutely fantastic.
I don’t really mind getting my ass kicked on an encounter because I have fun getting stronger and tearing through the start of my next run.
Definitely check this game out.
Because of the amount of things you can upgrade there’s more empowerment between runs and far less grinding at the same level to get fewer upgrades that are too distant. I think the game is more generous with permanent upgrades and run specific upgrades and that’s what makes the gameplay loop more addictive and fun.
If you like the Greek mythology side of things, I’d recommend reading Stephen Fry’s Mythos and the follow up Heroes.
Game of the year contender for me. Buy it, you won’t regret it.
@SweetOnion My biggest problem with Dead Cells is that the unlocks feel a bit too slow and grindy and I end up burnt out after a day or two of playing, it's probably what puts it a level below the best roguelites for me. Hades does a much better job in this regard, where it feels like I'm actually improving and making progress towards something each run. It's also a brilliant game in basically every other aspect which helps too.
The thing with Dead Cells is once I'd beat the hand of the king I didn't feel much incentive to play any more. I've defeated Hades five times and I still have so many weapons and options that I've not unlocked that make me want to play again- also the investment in the characters is so much greater than any other roguelike I've played - so that issue isn't here.
Also a complete run take about 45 minutes generally. While I enjoyed RAD it took ages to upgrade in that game and a run would take about 2-3 hours. Way too long.
And I love Binding Of Isaac but that game isn't for everyone- Hades is much more generous with giving you info- the codex explains everything regarding the upgrade system after a whole- so you don't need to check wikis to figure out whether to take a power up or not.
And it just plays wonderfully. I think the 10 is deserved.
@Kalmaro Coming from Supergiant this was an instant buy for me. I loved their previous games (Bastion & Transistor) and Hades does not disappoint – it is instantly recognizable as a Supergiant game.
Personally, I prefer the linear levels, sense of progress and storytelling in Bastion & Transistor to the Repeat Loop of Hades. Hades is easy to pick up and play for 30 – 60 minutes (or less). In longer session it seems to get a bit repetitive to me.
However, it is still a great game!
I bought it before the discount ended and with some gold coins,I got it for £15. Not started it yet though. MHGU and allstars has kept me busy enough
It takes Supergiant a week to fix save data corruption issues.
Nintendo still haven't fixed the one in Animal Crossing that has been there since launch.
@Kalmaro I'm not a fan of roguelikes, but i like dead cells ok (for perspective), & i have also bought all of supergiant's games, but never finished any of them (though i will, & all of them are decent to good, but not great, IMHO). I really like this game as it has hard progress. I hate playing the same game hundreds of times over, usually, but this game is really charming (as are all of their games), but has excellent gameplay along with it. I definitely recommend it, even if you aren't a huge fan of roguelikes. It is their best game by a long shot.
@beuiz well put. I can't stand binding of isaac because i didn't have a mobile phone forever & i bought on switch so no option to go to wikis every 30 secs. I also didn't care for the gameplay but this is great for someone who doesn't care for roguelikes even.
@SweetOnion same here
Why did I sell my Switch Well, gotta get this game for PC...
Not a fan of most rogues. They aren't inherently bad, but since they rely on a short gameplay loop most of these titles become a bore after an hour or two. I loved Slay the Spire due to how mentally taxing it was, but could never get into Dead Cells or the other usually praised rogue games. This title though.. it is definitely a special one. Action like Diablo (without the loot), with so many ways of rewarding you. It takes the genre to the next level with the way it continues to progress the story and unlockables after every attempt. That itself would be a nice change, but the developer polished this title so well it is really mechanically stunning. I didn't expect to like this one, but I just can't stop playing it. Switch game of the year easily for me.
I’m generally wary when all of the internet is in agreement a game is great. But here we are, this game is amazing. Dead Cells on acid. Quite possibly the best independent game since Celeste.
@Kalmaro Totally hooked. I'm not a massive roguelike fan, find them generally quite monotonous. But loving this. The variety in the Boon system, along with other upgrades is staggering. Allows for great flexibility in your builds and encourages experimentation. Story and presentation are excellent as well. My son, who had never played a roguelike, has also been playing and if anything is more obsessed than I am.
Also should add, I've found it a great game to play alongside something else, or if you don't get a great deal of gaming time in a day. You can get a run or two done in a relatively short amount of time and still feel like you're making progress.
@Kalmaro
Honestly? After playing it for... (checks Switch) just over 10 hours; The first few runs were fun and I felt confident in the purchase, but the more I play, the more abilities, weapons, etc. I unlock, the more I get addicted to it. I highly recommend it, gameplay is great and the story and characters are a lot of fun as well, especially if you know Greek mythology.
I will say I did run into one problem; I put my switch in sleep mode to do something else real quick and the system downloaded the update for it. I chose to continue playing and everything was fine until I cleared the next room and the game crashed, then automatically applied the update.
Fortunately, the game saves progress each time you enter a new room, so I was able to pick up right where I left off, and I attribute the crash to the strange circumstances surrounding when the update came.
Other than that, it's performed absolutely flawlessly.
@Quantaur Thanks for taking the time to respond. It's good to hear that it saves your progress so frequently!
Although I generally avoid rogue-likes and rogue-lites, I did pick up Hades after multiple stellar reviews. And I have to agree, it really is well done. The combat gameplay itself is fun and conducive to pick up and play, which is nice, and the story, dialog, and voice acting are above and beyond. I also appreciate the depth and strategy added by the various items and powers that can be acquired.
My play time is 45 hours. I'm going to take a day off it, I was seeing Zag dashing about in my sleep last night.
