I'm not surprised, Clubhouse Games isn't a well known franchise and Animal Crossing is Animal Crossing.
Bit sad to see that so many people in Japan have missed out on the absolute classic game that is The Last of Us based on those sales figures.
@TheFullAndy
It's a very different market and to be honest not very surprising.
I mean I've only briefly played it myself and I know all about it's praise, but i'm simply never driven to play it despite having the ability too.
TBH, Clubhouse Games isn’t really something you want to have to pop in the cartridge for. It’s probably done better digitally than physically.
@Rosona
Of course not every game is for everyone just shocked to see how low those numbers were for a flagship Sony title.
What an abysmal week for Nintendo - they've only occupied 9 out of the 10 slots.
They only got TLOU Remastered in 2018?
It's the first last of us on ps4 I suspect it's there as people are doing catch up and it was discounted heavily in sale
I wonder how long the "Animal Crossing keeps X from the top spot" headline will continue to work?
@TheFullAndy Japanese are more into their handheld games and more cartoon looking games tbh, the graphically intense "blockbuster" games cater to the west
@bstoppel
I reckon Paper Mario will be the game to take top spot off Animal Crossing for a week or two before Animal Crossing just goes back to number 1 again.
@playstation_king
Yeah but even so less than 100 thousand for a major first party title still caught me off guard. Sony mustn't have bothered even advertising it in Japan.
@TheFullAndy
TLoU 2 will do it
I'm just happy to see Xenoblade Chronicles still in the top 10
@TheFullAndy yeah but I think the same happened to god of war and horizon zero dawn, they aren't too keen on western made games
@SuperCharlie78
Before I saw these charts I thought TLOU2 might do it but there clearly isn't much interest if the first game sold so little overall.
It will get second.
@playstation_king
Ah well personally I think they are missing out with that attitude but the main thing is I played it and love it!
Wow those Xeno sales really sucks
Holy smokes, AC New Horizons may hit five MILLION physical before the end of June, MK8D should reach three million in a couple of weeks, Splatoon 2 3.5million, Ring Fit Adventure will hit one million next week, assuming they have the stock to sell... incredible numbers, complete and utter NintenDOMINATION.
I am disappointed with clubhouse games and I haven't even bought it. I was very interested in getting this and even more so after trying out the guest pass. I imagined having fun playing this with my kids, wife, nieces and nephews. I really enjoyed the games on the guest pass and I saw it was getting good reviews.
Before I went ahead and bought it I discovered that you could only play a couple of games local 4-player which really made me lose interest. I get a lot of the games are two plyer to begin with and I would have expected that but I cannot fathom why you wouldn't be able to play games like bowling, darts, golf, Yahtzee with four players locally just to name a few.
Same with the card games, sure they have the problem of being able to see each other's cards but my brother used to play a poker game on the Intelivision back in the day and that game had a work around where the cards showed the back until the player pressed a button to flip them over. The other player just had to close there eyes when you were looking at your cards. Sure there was peaking band cheating but the option to be able to play those card games with 4 players in the same room on one Switch would still be welcome.
This should have been cleaning a good game to get to enjoy with friends and family together but for some reason they limited local multiplayer a lot more than necessary.
Animal Crossing is so popular in Japan
@TheFullAndy
I know I may be in the minority, but for me, the last of us was a massive disappointment.
Just be sure, I really liked the story, the characters, the idea that you may be the biggest villain in the end, they did a fantastic job on the graphics, and it was awesome to see my hometown as one of the levels in the game.
That being said, the gameplay is the most important part of gaming for me, and I grew insanely bored with it very fast. I won't go into detail about my issues with it, suffice to say I played through about 2 chapters, returned it, and watched the rest of the story on youtube.
That being said, I know for a fact there are certain games I adore that are not as good or even terrible (I LOVE Deadly Premonition! I don't care what anyone says! In fact I... will probably agree with most of the criticism!), but no matter how good everything else in a game is, if I don't enjoy playing it I'm not going to waste time on it.
@Quantaur
Nothing wrong with that, plenty of games I don't like that otherwise seem universally loved.
@TheFullAndy I also loved TLOU but different strokes for different folks.
@TheFullAndy It’s just ps hits version of tlou (propably third time released the same game).
They’ve sold 117k first week on ps3 in 2013.
@Saizo
Ah, so there is a decent fan base then. Maybe Part 2 will dethrone Animal Crossing when it comes out.
Can we take a moment to realize that ACNH has sold a million more copies in Japan than Smash Ultimate? I live in Japan, am a massive AC fan and I didn't expect that!

Wow, only 9 out of 10. It's Nintendoom time.
@Quantaur I feel the exact same way, except I managed to finish the game
@gokev13 : Yeah. I've only played it a week and I've already seen most that there is to see (I haven't even bothered playing some of the less interesting games, especially the awful toy ones). Funnily enough, its sales trajectory is reflective of my experience with the game as I'm almost ready to retire it and it's only been available for a week. I can see myself returning to the original DS version more frequently than the Switch release for my Clubhouse Games fix, which speaks wonders of the quality of the original.
Many of these games supported six to EIGHT players on the DS. The fact that they're limiting them to just TWO players for the most part is complete madness. The lack of customisation/themes has also hindered my enjoyment of the activities as so many of them are really shallow and/or could use some aesthetic options to break the monotony. "Mario" is the only alternate theme available for card games, and I was hoping that Nintendo would have dug a little deeper to incorporate some of their other IP as well.
Even more annoying is that some of the activities are completely luck-based, which seems like a colossal waste of resources utilised on activities that require no skill/strategy whatsoever, especially Takoyaki and War, where I was left scratching my head wondering why the hell they had ever bothered to include such games in the first place.
I absolutely LOVED Golf though and I find myself playing it every now and then, but there are only nine holes. I would easily pay up for a standalone release of Golf as it was really, really well done, but otherwise totally barebones with its complete lack of holes and virtually nonexistent customisation, but the mechanics and HD rumble were so well implemented, hence why I have enjoyed replaying it.
@westman98 New Horizons will crack that Top 10 before the end of June.
