The results of this year's Japan Game Awards have now been revealed, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons standing out as the star of the show.
The ceremony – which celebrates Japan's biggest and best games as well as a few international hits, too – saw Nintendo's life sim take home a total of three awards, including the prestigious Grand Award. It was a very decent outing for Nintendo all around, with a number of its titles receiving the Award for Excellence.

Waits for the hate comments about COD.
Well deserved prizes.
@geordie Call of Duty has not been my kind of game, but I must say it's spectacural. Graphics are so brilliant. The game engine looks new, and the general feeling is good imho. I am interested and I may pick it up for my pc.
@geordie I meant the last one, didn't read it was modern warfare. I honestly don't know anything about modern warfare.
I always find it weird that GOTY awards has games from different years in it. Also didn't Animal Crossing sell better then Pokemon which won best sales or dies that mean something else? Not to mention it was a bit rubbish so I don't know how it got an excellence award
I think ‘Baba is You’ also won the... Creativity? (I can’t remember the exact name) Award presented by Mr. Sakurai. Has anyone given it a go?
EDIT: It won the Game Designers’ Award, of which Masahiro Sakurai was the chief judge.

@Erchitu not played a COD since Black ops 2 the multiplayer was fantastic. Couldn't say the same for the single player.

(Can someone edit these lyrics on the DK Rap?)
@Ratking you mean Great games with cancerous fanbases? Cause I love Undertale but god lord I cannot stand the fans.
@ryancraddock "saw Nintendo's life sim"
So was that intentional or just my eyes playing tricks on me?
@rjejr I think you're just seeing what you want to see! 😉
@Ratking Agreed, every community has its fair share of rot.
Glad to see the love for AC, FE3H, and Pokemon!
@carlos82 The sales award confused me too, as Animal Crossing has outsold Pokemon Sword and Shield. I went to their website and found this:
"The "Best Sales Award" will be presented for the best-selling title sold in Japan during the specified period."
I couldn't find what specific period they were referring to, but Animal Crossing must have surpassed Pokemon after the cut off date. At least that's most logical conclusion I can come up with.
@Quantaur
The specific period refers to the last fiscal year (April 2019 - March 2020).
Animal Crossing did not overtake Pokemon in sales until mid-April 2020.
That's a weird cutoff date for the sales award, seems like they made that just so Pokemon could win something. Everyone was probably scratching their heads over that one.
I think Pokémon has more to fear in this thread than CoD
@Northwind Hahahah - I thought Mario 3D All-Stars was deemed most reprehensible hereabouts?
