UK chart data is now in for the week ending 20th June, revealing that Nintendo has secured half of the top ten all formats chart.
Ring Fit Adventure leads the way for Nintendo this week, earning a second place spot for the third week in a row. It was only beaten by PS4's The Last of Us Part II, fending off the UK's usual champions like FIFA 20 and Call of Duty.
Elsewhere, 51 Worldwide Games remains in the top ten, Pokémon Sword surges back to ninth after the release of the game's Expansion Pass last week, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons takes an uncharacteristic tumble from the top, landing in 12th place.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
- | 1 | The Last of Us Part II |
2 | 2 | Ring Fit Adventure |
3 | 3 | |

Animal Crossing dropped out because it's out of stock everywhere.
Yes RingFit! I picked it up 2 weeks ago and absolutely loving it! Seriously, if you love games and would want to more active/actually enjoy excersize pick it up. Even my Mum thinks its great.
I know this is a Nintendo website but the fantastic sales performance of Last of Us 2 should surely be mentioned in more detail?
Edit: Obligatory Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a beast!
Also Ring Fit is starting to become a sales monster, Nintendo just needs to keep up supply.
@StevenH
It won't, maybe a few weeks, will be a very front loaded release.
I am still playing through and loving the game!
@StevenH i'm about 7.5 hours in and now i'm at work and all I can think about is getting in that TV station!
Not surprised to see the last of us 2 at the top, the biggest launch game of the year in terms of first week units sold
My gaming time is reduced at the moment for various reasons, so not as far into TLOU2 as others, but it's absolutely spectacular so far. Polished to perfection, and the characters remain well-written and engaging. Well-deserved no. 1.
I've just bought Ring Fit Adventure and still waiting for delivery, but it looks really fun and a unique way of getting a decent bit of exercise.
@StevenH
How's the gameplay, the controls?
I wonder how long we'll see TLOU II in that list. GTA V just keeps on killing it as new players become old enough to play it. Truly wonderful game.
As for the rest, I'm glad to see so many Nintendogames. Nintendo and it's fans deserve a steady stream of successes after the WII U. Hope to see more in the vein of a Switch in the future, I truly love the concept.
Interested to see where Animal Crossing would place had stock been readily available... Anyone any ideas???
@BANJO
That is impossible to know except for it wouldn't be number 1 as Last of Us sold 40% more on launch than Animal Crossing did.
@StevenH
I have to admit, the first and last Naughty Dog game I played was Uncharted 1 or 2 and that had pretty crap and unresponsive controls in my opinion. But then again, I'm very, very picky regarding how a game controls, so maybe I am not the best reference to go by. 😆
@TheFullAndy Yes, that sounds about right... Hopefully the stock issue is resolved swiftly..
I never got into The last of us 1, I tried it. But it just felt like Uncharted but with Zombies and an even sadder story. It was a big meh honestly. TLOU2 isn't any better.
I love Ring Fit!On World 7 now and absolutely loving being totally shattered at the end of a game session..not so impressed when I find I'm still putting on loads of weight though..
Well, if anything there are still people who are buying Switch games despite the release of The Last of Us Part 2. But it will be only a matter of time before the latter will overshadow Nintendo just like Death Stranding did the last year...
I don't hate Sony's games, I just want Nintendo's ones to get the credit and respect they deserve, the ones they used to have...
@JoeM103 I'm glad you got your copy and are enjoying it. ☺️
@ReaperExTenebris It's doing so well currently because recent stock issues saw people paying twice RRP on eBay during lockdown. Stock issues have recently been addressed it seems (I got mine last week, ordered about 2 months ago) so all those backlogged orders are now being fulfilled.
It would have been a very sad signal for the gaming industry if TLOU2 had not at least sold more than FIFA this week.
Picked up Ring Fit this morning. Still haven't unboxed it though...
@jsw-8 Cheers mate
I bought Ring Fit Adventure last week as it was finally in stock. Love it!
@StevenH
Everybody said the same about the first one.. i played it for the first time half a year ago and it was.. i don't know.. ok maybe but definitely nothing special. A normal Zombie story and a gameplay which could be improved in so many parts..
I didnt understand the hype about it after the playthrough..
@TheFullAndy shame the game is rubbish though 🤷🏻♂️
@sandman89
Played it have you?
@StevenH interesting as from what I’ve seen and heard the story is awful 🤔 mixed reviews. I’m not bothered either way I don’t own a PlayStation
@TheFullAndy nah just what I’ve seen and heard
@sandman89
So your opinion is worthless then.
@StevenH @TheFullAndy I watched Dreamcast guys review and a few others
@TheFullAndy I guess
@BlackKnight93
Every week with you dude spouting nonsense!
It has become tradition so have at it.
@TheFullAndy I'm beginning to suspect he's an anti-Nintendo troll in disguise.
I don't think TLoU are for me, but great that some of you guys seems to enjoy the new one.
For what it is, RFA is a beast! Would like to get it, but don't know if it's well suited in an apartment. Poor neighbours. 😅
@Quarth RFA has a silent mode specifically for people playing in apartments/ when others are sleeping
@StevenH I was gonna get Last of Us 2, but the reviews are horrible. Seems fans really don't like the game.
@StevenH Yeah, that's what people say about Pokemon too. But when you have that many negative reviews, it's safer to just stay away.
@KoopaTheQuick
No. This is an article about the top selling games of the week in the UK which includes non Nintendo games.
@KoopaTheQuick
Listen up chum. I will talk about what I want, you don't get to dictate to anyone.
@Quarth
I won't get RFA cause I am just a lazy git!
@StevenH I might have to give the uncharted series another try. Tried the 1st on the remastered collection and then lost interest after a couple hours.
@StevenH Dreamcast guy YouTube channel check it out see if you agree. I would still buy it if I had a PlayStation
@TheFullAndy What is there to say? All we know is it beat a game that's been on the market for 8 months and is supply-constrained (Ring Fit Adventure) for #1 at launch. But it's a major Sony exclusive, if it didn't that's a huge problem. That could be an insane win, or it could have flopped relative to expectations. Without numbers, we don't have a clue how it sold since it was the only new game this week.
Love how TLOU2 sells 40% more copies than Animal Crossing at launch and is the biggest UK launch for any boxed game released this year - yet Sony can keep the game in Stock 🙄
Nintendo has been pulling this "sold out" thing for decades.
So, people did not rush out and get Burnout Paradise on Switch @ £45?... another shocking moment!. What is that, 4 failed rehash in a row?. I lost count.
Have a trip to Boston with the Mrs, "51 Worldwide Games" will 100% be played on the train 🙂
@Agramonte
Forgetting how the game was delayed to make sure they would have enough physical copies in stock?
Convenient.
@link3710
It was Sony's fastest selling release this generation, sold 40% more boxed copies at launch than its closest rival, Animal Crossing?
If anything it makes the 5 Switch only games still in the top 10 more impressive there would have been a sales bump for PS4.
@TheFullAndy Errr, It has been 7 weeks to get their ducks in order. And even random 2nd tier stuff "sell out".
@Agramonte
Delay was still required though.
2nd tier games obviously would not have as many copies made.
Nintendo does not overstock games because they do not want to waste money on production of pyhsical copies that do not sell. This can lead to shortages but it is also clearly a very successful and sustainable way to do business.
Plus sometimes supply just cannot meet demand. Ring Fit Adventure has no doubt taken Nintendo by surprise with its success and Animal Crossing has sold more already than what Nintendo had forecast for lifetime sales.
This keeps Nintendo profitable and in the videogame business so I am happy with their approach, I imagine Sega wish they had followed the same approach back in the day.
@TheFullAndy RingFit for all the "Sell Out", has sold 2.7Millon total in 9 months. It is a plastic ring made in China. They can even make more full blown Switch in a quarter than that.
Tons of Publishers are profitable, successful and sustainable also. And keep their games in Stock (with multiple platforms at the same time)
Not sure how Nintendo can be surprised of anything at this point. If you have an average of 85% of game sales on Switch are 1st party - you know a big chunk of people on Switch just waiting for you to release a game to buy something.
@Agramonte
2.7 million is not a small number for a game that probably was not expected to sell that much.
Bottom line is Nintendo won't change how they do things, worst case scenario is people have to wait to get a game they want, and digital is always an option, except for Ring Fit of course!
@Grumblevolcano does that count if you can just buy it digitally? Ring Fit is out of stock everywhere and is still #2 with only a physical option.
@TheFullAndy It has been 9 months. You are not "surprised" in 3 quarters. Especially when orders from the warehouse are months in advance. Out of the top 10 best selling games in 2020 in the US the only one with stock issue is Animal Crossing.
EA will probably never change their ways on how they stay profitable either. Does not stop people from pointing out what they can do to improve.
"and digital is always an option"
Digital sales were 34% of Nintendo's total sales in FY20. So again, Nintendo knows that is not what their base wants.
@Agramonte
34% is a significant figure.
Why are you crying about this so much?
@Agramonte
Nobody expected Ring Fit or Animal Crossing to sell as much as they did. Labo (Nintendo's previous new IP that integrates a hardware accessory) sold less than 2 million units across all 4 kits over 2+ years, and previous Animal Crossing games sold less in 7+ years what New Horizons sold in a matter of weeks.
Nintendo games go out of stock because of higher-than-expected demand, not because they are engaging in a baseless conspiracy to purposely limit supply.
Also, Nintendo games account for 50% of NSW software sales, not 85%. Not sure how thats relevant though...
@TheFullAndy
How is 34% significant? I was perfectly happy to take a 34% reduction in my paycheck.
/s
@TheFullAndy And so is 66%... and what are you talking about - you went down this road. This was just 1 point in my comment - and moved on
@gopher1369 Really? How does it work? It's not the sound from the game itself I worry about – it's the sound from clumsy old me when I'm running and jumping on the floor.
@TheFullAndy I try to be active with daily exercise, but I thought this game would be perfect for those days when you just don't want to get out.
@TheFullAndy See that's actual data. But that's worldwide data, correct? I was specifically referring to the fact that we know nothing about the UK numbers in particular.
@westman98 No way they can still be surprised by this. They should have demand 4 weeks out at this point. And they making a packaged game not a Tesla.
And having them do a better job at understanding demand is not claiming a "conspiracy" - it is what most publishers manage to figure out in most territories on multiple platforms.
@Agramonte
I am not saying 66% isn't significant, but no business is going to dismiss a third of its revenue stream especially when it is a revenue stream that increases year upon year.
As westman98 and I have already said sometimes supply just cannot meet demand. But Nintendo isn't going to make limitless amounts of games as that is a waste of money and not good for business.
@link3710
No just for the UK.
We don't know the sales figures, although westman98 is usually good for giving figures based on previous information, but we all know how big a launch Animal Crossing was in the UK and now LoU2 has sold 40% more than that. I think that is worth a little footnote in the article at least.
"I was gonna get Last of Us 2, but the reviews are horrible. Seems fans really don't like the game."
@mesome713
Hi, I'm confused by this comment?
It has an average score of 95% which makes it one of the highest reviewed games (by critics) of all time.
I don't personally put stock in UserReviews on Metacritic because they do nothing to verify people have played the game and tend to get hijacked by people with agendas.
@TheFullAndy
Nintendo's digital sales during all of FY2019 was 34%, but it was 45% during the Jan-Mar 2020 quarter due to Animal Crossing's record-breaking digital launch + national lockdowns. Expect Nintendo's digital sales ratio to stay above 40% during FY2020.
UK launches sales:
> The Last of Us: ~110,000
> The Last of Us Part 2: ~194,000
> Animal Crossing New Leaf: ~39,000
> Animal Crossing New Horizons: ~138,000
@westman98 Majority bought Animal Crossing digital. It's sold over 10 million digital.
@westman98
Pretty significant then 😉
Cheers for the info.
New Horizons numbers are still very impressive for the UK but Last of Us 2 was launching on a console with a much bigger userbase here and was an anticipated sequel 7 years in the making so was always going to do better. In the long run though Animal Crossing might outsell it in the UK, it definitely will globally.
I am just glad I own a PS4 and Switch and get the best of both worlds.
@mesome713
Could be the same for Last of Us 2, I bought it digitally.
@TheFullAndy Oh for sure. I was pointing out that to a large chunk of players getting it digital is not their preferred way of buying it.
And It is fine to be surprised about initial demand. It is also fine to notice others have figured out how to stay out of a hole -during or after a successful launch - and still make tons of cash. Nintendo can improve on this.
@TheFullAndy
Total sales outside of Japan:
> Animal Crossing: ~1.1 million
> Wild World: ~6.4 million
> City Folk: ~2.9 million
> New Leaf: ~6.6 million
> Happy Home Designer: ~2.0 million
> The Last of Us: ~7.7 million
> The Last of Us Remastered: ~11.7 million
If you exclude Japanese sales, The Last of Us PS3 + PS4 single-handedly outsold every Animal Crossing game prior to New Horizons. It's no surprise The Last of Us Part 2 sold more than New Horizons in the UK at launch - the brand was much bigger. The PS4 having a much bigger install base also helps.
I find it weird not to like a game everyone harps on as being so good like tlou2. I found the first game insufferably boring to play, and the sequel hasn't done anything to change my mind on it.
I'm more in agreement with Moistcr1tikal/penguinz0 take on it.
This isn't saying I hope the game fails, I just never found the gameplay interesting or fun and that's the most important factor in any game for me. It was the same boring encounter from room to room.
@TheFullAndy Ah, I wasn't aware of that, and the listed source didn't provide that info.
@Agramonte
I don't think Nintendo is "surprised" by the demand at this point- they are simply unable to produce enough copies to deliver to all markets around the world.
Nintendo's main priority is to produce and ship enough Switch hardware to meet its currently record-high demand. Producing enough retail copies of games isn't nearly as important, especially since those games can be downloaded off of the eShop (half of Animal Crossing's sales are digital anyways).
@link3710
Game Industry Biz is the best website for more detailed UK chart information.
@ReaperExTenebris Ring Fit obvs. TLoU2 only came out this week didn't it?
@westman98 I expect a multi million dollar company to walk and chew gum at the same time. Also making more Switch is Foxcom's problem. Not like Nintendo is running factories.
That was more about the situation on the ground. People either could not go get AC or could not find a copy if they tried. We have more than 3 years of data that shows Nintendo is nowhere near 50% digital on their games when everything works how it should.
Why is Minecraft Switch it's own thing but FIFA counted all together? Minecraft supports crossplay and is basically the same game on all platforms but FIFA on Switch is a distinctly inferior version of the game.
@Quarth It replaces the jogging with, well, it's difficult to describe, you bob up and down on the spot, think lots of tiny squats.
@gopher1369 OK, cool! Hopefully it's as fun.
@Agramonte How many thinly veiled ways can you write "buy a PS4" on a Nintendo site? Just checked, looks like about 4300+ at the moment.
@TheFullAndy ^^^^This is someone who's dumped on RingFit since it was announced and wanted it to fail.
