The guy is passionate about his work. I feel like his comments are perfectly fine by and large. I don't see how it's "whining" to talk about how much work goes into a smash bros game. Game development is a often brutal exhausting industry that oft has cruelly long hours.
I think people are just sick of people ragging on Sakurai all the time. It gets to a disgusting degree sometimes how much people can go on and on about it.
He is by no means perfect(where is my adventure mode?) but I think you are being a bit mean spirited and perhaps petty and ignorant in your assessment of a man who you know about largely from a handful of interviews and have never met.
@Solid_Stannis I swear if your idea of a "wasted character slot' is dark pit or something....in the case of clones it's a clone or nothing basically as the dev time for a clone is vastly lower than the dev time for a completely new character.
Also "wasted character slot" better not just mean "a character I don't like"
Well look at this way. Sure they could have finished it over a year ago...but we would've merely gotten a few mildly different playable characters rather than 3 vastly different playable characters with a 2 highly adjusted campaigns and 1 almost completely new campaign.
Everytime something good happens its "Oh my good I am gonna makes been a hundred trillion dollars" stocks shoot up and the next day "What you mean I had no idea what I was talking about and I won't have infinite riches just huge riches? Screw this!"
I hate the stock market and the fact that people put stock in it(hehehehehehe)and act like every single time stock falls it means a company is huge trouble.
I mean it's pretty hard to make a worldwide live presentation at a time that will be convenient for all countries. Remember directs are prerecorded. This is live. Also YouTube and the myraid of gaming websites render this pretty much moot. Anyone who is even vaguely interested is going to here about it.
You guys have been a little too grumpy lately methinks,
Also as I side note I hope 3DS continues to Rob Wii U of its games.
Wii U has a lot of games that never got to shine.
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze Captain Toad Treasure Tracker New Super Mario Bros U + New Super Luigi(they have the NSMBU engine running for super Mario maker after all)
And more could all work well enough on 3DS or N3DS.
Porting this down from Wii U while still having the game look nice is a notable feat. It would've been very hard to keep a good framerate and lag low in multiplayer.
Besides they are adding a fair bit of new content. Pattern Editor, Poochy Run and animated shorts.
Every single Wii U to 3DS port has lost some form of content in the transition and gotten some new content as well.
Combining the dual pack as two sales(as its both versions in one package for priced roughly the same as if you bought them seperate.) puts you almost at 2.3 million.
Although the "no plans" thing could be BS. Plenty of times game companies have utterly lied, or made use of exact words to BS things they aren't ready to announced.
Also localization is likely because Monster Hunter has sold over 3 million copies in the west on 3DS.
600K+ for 3U(3DS ver) 1.6 million for 4U Around 800K for generations(it was at 3.3 million on Capcom's platinum sellers section on their investor website and it updated today for sales as of September 30th to 4.1 million. As generations has been absent the top 20 sellers in Japan for awhile it's been selling a few thousand a week maximum so the vast vast vast majority of that 800K is western sales)
Plus most the game is already localized because of generations. They just need to localize the new characters and G rank content.
It's coming over. Mark my words. Monster Hunter has broken out of being a niche title in the west. It's not as big as in Japan yet yet but it's certainly a hit and strong seller now. They aren't going to stop the gravy train when they can still top off several hundred thousand more helpings of mash potatoes for themselves with less effort than the last 800K servings.
Generations save transfers to this. So if you have generations don't sell. It's proba worth to pick up generations on sale so you can jump right into the new G rank content.
With 3DS being almost six years old, Wii U and PS4 doing medicore numbers and XB1 being a complete non factor it's no wonder sales are low.
Let's hope what happened with dream team happens(IIRC dream team debuted at around 30K but actually rose in sales the second week and had several 20K+ weeks in a row.) because Star Rush seems like a notably better effort that Island Tour.
Also advertising, and people disliking Island tour could be a factor in the sales as well.
I for one initially dismissed Star Rush because recent Mario parties(especially Island tour) looked disappointing to me. But footage and more information has changed my mind and I will likely purchase my first Mario party since 8 come November.
To be fair in like Wii to Wii U we actually have several confirmed first party games launching after the Switch launch(Pikmin, Mario Sports Superstars and Ever Oasis)
And none of them are localizations we had waited a long time on either. Although we do have plenty of likely localizations to fuel the library in 2017( and maybe 2018) such as Yokai Watch 3, Etrian Odyssey V, Monster Hunter Stories, Dragon Quest XI etc.
Somewhere from Minor profit to moderate losses was pretty obvious given the barren(except to a small subsection of 3DS owners) release list for the covered period.
They are still expecting a profit for the year as a whole and with the holiday period, Mario Run, Pokemon Sun/Moon, Mario Maker 3D, Switch launch, New Amiibo, and NES mini it's pretty easy to see them hitting their target.
Seriously where is man factory, forest, desert, space, volcano, beach, ice, etc. themes?
And where are mah chargin chucks, blarghs/magmaargh, mechakoopa, swoopers, shy guys/spear guys, eerie, Sharks, clams, crabs, Pokey, broozer, Octoomba, piranha creepers, , bomb boos, tweester, fire snake, jellybeams and bulbers.
Also water wherever we want please, light/Dark mechanics, barrels, ice flower, cat suit, plus webs/fences, vertical levels and meteors, gravity mechanics
Even just a a 5th of this stuff would be great. Pls Nintendo. Don't waste this opputinity to add new elements to Mario Maker. The updates you did for the U version were cool but too too little.
It's likely all the games shown will arrive in some form. I don't even remember that zombie game for the Wii U reveal but couldn't it have been a early version of ZombiU?
it is possible for them to be canceled or change drastically but we really have little reason to doubt especially for the 3D Mario game.
And thanks to this article we will get several thousand more troll topics on message boards using this as "proof" that third party support will suck on Switch. Not that it was wrong to post the article of anything, but I wish the Internet would stop making the worst assumptions about everything.

Re: Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS Makes Modest UK Debut as Pokémon Stays in Top 10
I never expected a high placement in the UK. All the big hitters and holiday sales make it hard for a port to place high,
Japan is where Mario Maker 3DS is going to sell best methinks.

Maybe better than sonic 06 but that's about this,
This demo is medicore at best. It's too open for its own good. You basically have to try to encounter enemies.
A game like sonic needs some linearity.
Oh and that green hills texture gets kinda nauseating with the combination of camera angles used and speed.
