Earlier this summer, the Kirby series saw its latest entry with Kirby: Planet Robobot, the sublime mech-centric platformer that more or less concluded a trilogy of Kirby games that have come out over the past few years. As it would happen, Kirby's 25th anniversary is due to occur in 2017, and while there haven't been any celebration announcements yet, we might be hearing more in the near future.
The Japanese Kirby Twitter account recently posted a tweet that a special Kirby 25th anniversary broadcast will be taking place tomorrow at an undisclosed time. It's anybody's guess as to what it could be about, but we'd be willing to bet that Nintendo has got something exciting planned for the anniversary.
What do you think? What will the broadcast be about? What's your favorite Kirby game? Drop us a comment in the section below.
Thanks to Mega_Yarn_Poochy for the tip

You're welcome.
Pretty excited to see what this is. I love me some Kirby games.
There's this interesting picture as well that could tie in to the announcement.
Translating the tweet reads:
“Er …. I am testing the camera now. #Kirby’s 25th birthday”
Interesting...
Oh yeah, and its not just the Kirby Twitter page, its the special Kirby 25th Aniversary Twitter page.
Here's to Kirby and his 25 years of greatness!
Wish Samus would have gotten some attention on her anniversary.
What's your favorite Kirby game?
Kirby's Adventure, and I strongly dislike the GBA remake.
A no man's sky-Esque game with Kirby and that actually doesn't suck.
I'm hoping we'll finally find out what Kirby grows into. Kirby's 25 now, he can only stay a baby SO long.
Kirby Air Ride 2 is going to be announced at last!
Yes, I still have hope. HAL hasn't crushed my dreams yet!
In all seriousness, I think there's a good chance the next Kirby game could be the first full on 3D entry. That mini game and some portions of Planet Robobot seemed to indicate that the developers have their minds on it.
Mobile game!
I hope not.
My hope is an announcement of Team Kirby Clash DX and Kirby 3D Rumble DX on 3DS with a teaser for Kirby Switch.
Suffice to say, we're not seeing any next-gen Kirby action before the twelfth of January, so another kind of celebration makes more sense.
The first part of @Mega_Yarn_Poochy's comment is a far more viable option, especially the Team Kirby Clash DX part. I would be all for a "best of" edition of all the bosses in the series. Marx, Dark Matter, Queen Sectonia, Galacta Knight, Zero Two, alongside the standard bosses from these guys' respective games (especially Computer Virus, a perfect fit for Kirby Clash), in the same game? Heeeeeeeeeeeere's my wallet, Ninty.
That said, my flying-pigs guess is a follow-up to... well, this.
Maybe a 3DS port?
Kirby super star on VC and 3D Kirby for 3DS or switch pls.
Kirby's 25th is 2017, Switch launch is 2017, are we going to get a new Kirby game at launch? If the Switch has a camera you could use it to "suck in" your friends for power-ups.
@AlexSora89 True, we wouldn't see any actual footage of a Switch Kirby, possibly an announcement though along with a 3DS game.
@DanteSolablood
Hopefully. And now Poochy's suggestion is stuck in my head. I mean, the sheer potential of a game reuniting... well, all of this.
Uh... Is it gonna be Japanese only? I'm hoping not.
Sweet Kirby!
Shame Nintendo won't be announcing any Switch games before 12th Jan because I would love this to be an announcement of a beautiful HD Kirby game that I can play on the train. Kirby's vibrant world deserves crisp high resolution but also suits gaming on the go.
A new Wii U Kirby game that will seize development to be released on Switch?
I reaaaaaally hope it's a new Kirby game. And if it's anything like that 4 player Kirby game on Wii U, return to Dreamland, then sign me up immediately! I just need it to be online to complete my life!
@NintyFan I wouldn't mind having the 20th Anniversary Collection released on the Wii U eShop.
@AlexSora89 Yes please a 3ds port!! instant buy if that happens!
As long as they don't skip Europe
Anniversary edition re-release of Dream Collection including Europe please.
@bolt05
Same here!!
Well, they'd better not abandon Europe like that OTHER Kirby Anniversary celebration...
@AlexSora89

Exactly! This is my dream Kirby game, right here. Usually the arena ends up being my favorite part of each game anyway. And Kirby's director DOES love bosses... I've always thought they should just make a whole game based on the arena, with as many bosses and abilities as possible, and a vs. Battle mode like Kirby Fighters to round the whole thing out. It could be a HUGE hit on Switch if done right, which I have every confidence Hal could do!
@Philo
With the bosses being challenged individually, the Boss Rush being unlocked when they're all defeated, said Boss Rush including a final boss initially exclusive to it, the boss in question appearing in the "boss select" menu alongside other final bosses, a Final Boss Rush being unlocked afterwards, then an "extras" menu being unlocked with an achievement system leading to videos, sound test and such being unlocked based on how fast, or with which ability, the singular bosses have been defeated... would this work to you?
Kirby is so adorable :3
Best Kirby game in my opinion? Kirby's dreamland 2. You get to ride a fire breathing hamster. 'Nuff said.
@MitchVogel I've had the hopes that a 3D adventure would come about forever!
And Triple Deluxe has to be my favorite, such a fun game
@AlexSora89
In a word... yes. All of my yes.
I don't think enough people realize how perfect Kirby is for a fighting game like this, with the scorechasing element and so forth. The abilities, the bosses... all of Kirby has been building for something like this. There's more than enough material to make a full game from the arena, exactly as you have laid it out.
It will happen someday, mark my words. It's just a matter of time...
I can imagine it being the announcement of a sort of yearlong event, like with Zelda in 2011 and Luigi in 2013. That could potentially mean multiple releases.
As for what a new game would be like... well it would be on the 3DS. Kirby has a long history of releasing games for a system late in its life. See Adventure, Dream Land 3, Mass Attack, etc. But I don't think we're in for another platformer. So probably some sort of spinoff, either at retail or an enhanced version of Kirby Clash.
We can also likely expect either sales on Kirby games come this April, and maybe the release of older titles on Virtual Console. Air Ride could be used to announced GameCube support. A Dream Collection port/successor makes sense, though I imagine it being tailored to handhelds.
And maybe there will be a new Kirby platformer for the Switch this Fall. Maybe.
My favorite Kirby game is Kirby's Epic Yarn. I just simply love the art style, the soundtrack and the charm they put into this gem. I don't care if you can't "die" in the game, all Kirby games are generally easy. But the game just has so much personality and it's a ton of fun, I'd love a Kirby's Epic Yarn 2, or at least another yarn game in the same vein like Yoshi's Woolly World. I've always been a big fan of Kirby games, ever since the original on Game Boy.
@Philo
Kirby Fighters Deluxe was already a good step in the right direction, with its only flaw being the timing behind the European version (which would have helped ease the wait for Smash 4, which was already out by the time KFD came out in the Old Continent). Expanding upon that formula would do wonders, although we already kind of have the perfect Kirby game if you count Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot as two halves of one amazing game (as I do).
I hope this is an announcement for fleshed out versions of the minigames from Planet Robobot. They did that for Dedede's Drum Dash and Kirby Fighters, Kirby 3D Rumble and Team Kirby Clash would be awesome standalone games!
@AlexSora89
Put together, I believe you're right about TD and PR: they are just about the perfect specimen of the traditional Kirby formula (as in, platforming and so on). Honestly, I'm not sure where else they can go with that, unless they somehow find a way to work in dreamland series style gameplay, like combining powers. Now THAT would be a monster of a game, lol.
The fighting/beat 'em up genre formula I'm hoping for would be more like a spin-off game, I suppose. I mean, Kirby's got tons of spin-offs already, and has a game in nearly every genre at this point; the only ones missing are RPG and Fighting, both of which I believe could be done very well. And I think Hal knows this too, considering the mini games we've gotten recently. Like I said, it's all just a matter of time.
Whatever the next game will be though, I'm definitely excited to play it!
@Philo
I think Nintendo should realize by now they should start establishing the most received features in their games as series staples to re-include in every following game, like a Pokémon game with Battle Frontier, Trainer Tower, Pokémon World Tournament, two regions, Vs. Seeker, soaring with Latios or Latias, Walking Pokémon, Wonder Trade, Secret Bases and so on (although what I listed would suffice to me).
The same approach in a Kirby game would mean Meta-Knight and King Dedede being playable, Kirby Super Star's Helper mechanic making a comeback, Return To Dreamland/Adventure Wii's map featuring the entirety of Pop Star once again, the Robobot armor making a comeback in some areas, combining powers as in Mouse Attack, calling for help as in The Amazing Mirror, raiding the Halberd, the most memorable bosses in the series returning, the usual Eldritch Abomination as the final boss in the until-then lighthearted game, and the extra minigames aside from The Arena being Kirby Fighters, a revamped Helper To Hero closer to Kirby Fighters, Meta Knightmare Returns, Dededetour, Kirby Team Clash, and Kirby 3D Rumble. Does this sound okay to you or I missed something?
Kirby is always great. I've been a fan from the start, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they will celebrate the fluffball.
@AlexSora89
Lol, no that about covers it... when you list it out like that, it really makes me remember why I love the Kirby series. There's just so much awesome stuff throughout it's 25 years... it'd be impossible to cram it all in one game. At least, not without losing the one thing you didn't list: Kirby's trademark simplicity. As much as I wish the series could be as mind-bendingly complex as Xenoblade chronicles X, the simplicity with that light touch of something more (like the underlying mythos Hal's been slowly simmering in the background) is the whole reason I keep playing. One thing's for sure though, Hal DEFINITELY knows how to balance the old with the new, if PR is any indication. We're in good hands as long as they're in control of Kirby.
@Philo
And when you consider Kirby was created by Sakurai, you just kind of know he could take a vacation while giving his burden to HAL when it comes to the development of the next Super Smash Bros. game.
I smell a new Kirby game....
Kirby really is on a streak, quality-wise. Who knows what awesome-nes they are cooking up this time?
I'm expecting, in order of likeliness:
nothing
something with that café/other merchandising
eShop sale
retail or eShop anthology (why create that logo otherwise?)
new eShop game
new retail game (real longshot, as Kirby has traditionally been Nintendo's cleanup batter so it won't be a Switch launch title and the 3DS has already had two mainline games)
I'm not saying they should or anything, but I would love a remake of The Crystal Shards on 3DS. The way the levels were set up and the angles the cameras could take would look breathtaking with some graphical touch-ups and in 3D.
Pink Kirby is being retired. He will be replaced by a new Blue 'Kirby' to reflect the changing cultural landscape.
Not expecting much as surely they would specify what time they would be releasing the news if something big.
@MitchVogel The Kirby 25th Anniversary Twitter account added several tweets in the last hour. Something about a Kirby orchestra concert, a watch set and some other merchandise:
