The problem is, these £40 Nintendo games only get reduced by 30% in sales after a year and its obviously not worth using the 2 for £84 vouchers on either.
The demo was enjoyable but hardly blew me away. There are loads of games that regularly get reduced to £20 that I'd much prefer.
Nintendo have always done things their own way. Sometimes it's a massive success and sometimes I wonder what they are thinking.
It took years for us to get folders and I still wouldn't be surprised if the switch 2 lacks backwards compatibility.
Until we get an announcement saying that the switch 2 ticks all the boxes for what most players want, I think the share prices may be getting a bit ahead of themselves.
When the switch came out it was somewhere between ps3 and ps4 in power and came out halfway between ps4 and ps5. In other words 1 generation behind.
If the power of switch 2 is comparable to ps4 halfway through the ps5 life cycle, it'll be one and a half generations behind.
Third party developers will be reluctant to put their games on the platform due to the difference in power and unless Nintendo have some other trick up their sleeve, I can't see it being as successful as the switch.
@Serpenterror I guess it's true that we didn't care for backwards compatibility in those days.
The thing is, the difference between each generation back then was massive. I remember being amazed when going from snes to n64. Then ps1 to ps2.
Now look at the difference between ps4 and ps5 and tell me people would really be willing to pay £500 for graphics you have to really analyse to spot the difference if bc wasn't there.
If Nintendo wow us in some other way (graphics or some other must have innovation), I guess it may compensate for a lack of backwards compatibility but if not, I'll wait for a few years until there's a decent choice of games.
When a console first launches, new games are scarce and its the benefit of playing last generation games maybe in higher resolution that sells systems.
More system sales means more third party developer support and a more successful console.
While I'll probably buy a switch 2 one day, I definitely won't at launch unless there's backwards compatibility.
While I don't own the Switch version, I can't imagine the controls being as good unless you play in handheld with touch screen in which case you might as well get the much cheaper mobile version anyway.
@Vriess I agree that it's good when developers improve their games but rushiosan has a point.
If people spend money on a game, they want to play it straight away. It never feels as good, going back months later to replay the game as it was meant to be in the first place.
The metacritic score for Panzer Dragoon is around 60% and I'm sure this score would be much higher if it had been released as it is now.
I know sometimes developers need the money immediately but surely releasing games in a more reviewable state would earn them more sales in the long run.
Personally, I felt a bit cheated paying £25 on release for something clearly not finished only to realise if I had waited for the patches, I could have also picked it up on sale for only £5.
Nintendo clearly did well and know their audience judging by the high scores most people gave this direct.
The only half decent game for me was the Mario one and even then, I'm not paying £50 for another 2D platformer.
I wanted
Silksong
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Diddy Kong Racing
Snowboard Kids
F zero gamecube
Wave Race Gamecube
Zelda Windwaker
Mario Galaxy 2
Mario Odyssey 2
3d Donkey Kong game
2d Wario platformer / rogue lite
I think I may be in the minority here but so far I actually prefer BOTW visuals.
While the new draw distances and some other aspects are impressive, to my non expert eye I found some parts of the new game quite jarring and way over sharpened especially on a very large TV.
I actually had to turn the brightness down.
Maybe it's just nostalgia and the fact that I'm used to BOTW.
The switch must be the best ever system for shmups despite input lag ruining some games that would otherwise be on or higher up this list. My top 20 are:
Dodonpachi DOJ
Mushihimesama
Rolling Gunner
Esp.Ra.De.Psi
Espgaluda 2
Akai Katana Shin
Batsugun
Crimzon clover
Deathsmiles
Danmaku Unlimited
Eschatos
Gunvein
Darius Gaiden
Ray Z collection
Giga Wing
Pro Gear
Like / Cosmo Dreamer
Blackbird
Graceful Explosion Machine
Dodonpachi DFK (least favourite cave game)
Breath of the Wild is my favourite game but 6 years later things have moved forward and I'm not sure how much Nintendo will improve it, especially on the same console.
At this stage, I would have preferred to wait an extra year and see it on Switch 2.
@Giancarlothomaz Yeah, I get that but Switch was somewhere between ps3 and ps4, in other words 1 generation behind as it came out between those consoles release dates.
Therefore if the switch 2 isn't somewhere between ps4 and ps5, it will feel very old very quickly.
Some gamers have a main console to compliment their switch and only give nintendo a small part of their gaming budget which is fine.
But I presume as a money making business, Nintendo wants to make as many sales as possible and have 100% of a good proportion of gamers budgets. This will also encourage third party developers to put their games on the platform (essential for a consoles success)
Power definitely isn't Nintendo's main thing or why people buy their consoles but it needs to be considered and they certainly can't afford to be more than a generation behind.
I hope nintendo go for the most powerful options. The switch was somewhere between ps3 and ps4 in terms of power and going by that you would hope the successor is at least between ps4 and ps5.
If the switch feels dated now, imagine what switch 2 will be like after 7 years if it doesn't even match ps4.
The other thing that would make me purchase more games is if Nintendo followed Microsofts lead and allowed gamers to get a refund on digital games they don't like if played less than 2 hours.
I own 15 of the games on this list and with at least half of them, there's no way I would have bought them if I hadn't got to try them first.
Demos do occasionally put me off a game I was going to buy: Age of Calamity, Pikmin 3 and Mario Strikers but for the most part, they encourage me to spend more money.

Re: 50 Best Nintendo Switch Games To Play Right Now (2024)
When Portal Collection is only at no 50, you know its gonna be a good list.
Re: Review: Blast Corps - An Absurd, Exhilarating, Explosive Gem From Rare's N64 Days
N64 had some great original puzzle games.
This and Wetrix, a 3d water puzzle game were my favourite.

Re: 'Switch 2' Launching This Year With 8-Inch LCD Screen, According To New Analyst Rumour
Not all LCD screens are terrible so I'm not writing off the switch 2 yet even if this rumour is true.
Some LCD screens can get much brighter and still offer decent contrast even if the blacks aren't quite at the same level as oled.
I'm more concerned about whether the new Switch will offer backwards compatibility.
Re: Best Nintendo Switch Games Of 2023
My favourite didn't even make the list.
Never Awake has to be by far the best twin stick shooter I've ever played.
Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite Switch Games Of The Year 2023
Couple of shmups missing such as Gunvein, Never Awake and the M2 Dodonpachi port.
Re: Talking Point: What Classic Sega Franchises Do You Want To See Rebooted?
Can't believe Virtua Cop only has 3% of votes.
I'd love it if someone developed a light gun technology that worked on modern tvs.
I guess not many people on here were around in the 90s so don't know how good these games were.
Re: Sega Announces New Games In Development For Classic Franchises
Can't wait for these games.
I wish someone would develop the technology for light gun games to work with modern tvs as I'd love to play the Virtua Cop games too.
Re: Nintendo Updates Switch Online's N64 Release Schedule
I wish Nintendo would allow us to actually buy some of these classic N64 games.
For me, there is only a handful of games I actually want and paying $50 a year to rent them isn't worth it.
Re: Nintendo Announces Indie World Showcase For Tomorrow, November 14th
Ah wonderful. Nintendo are gonna disapoint me one more time this year and give me a bunch on farming sims instead of silksong.
Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Is Backwards Compatible, What Will You Do With Your Switch?
@msvt I have a Hori Rap V with Semitsu LS58 stick and Sanwa buttons. This setup is ideal for shmups but is also playable with fighting games too.
It's wired.
Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Is Backwards Compatible, What Will You Do With Your Switch?
I have a decent arcade stick so may try to make myself a homemade arcade cabinet with a monitor that swivels into tate mode.
I'd keep all my shmups, fighting games and beat em ups on the switch 1 for use with the arcade stick and transfer everything else to the switch 2
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
@OldGamer999. Thanks. I wasn't even considering this game before release but with all the positive reviews, I'm getting tempted.
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
I've never enjoyed 2d Mario games. I always end up getting stuck fairly early and giving up.
It's not that I don't like hard games, completed Hollow Knight. It's just I never seem to want to play the same level time and time again.
Are there any non Mario fans on here that got converted or is it more of the same.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
It looks much better than I thought it would be when first announced but I can't get past the fact that it's another 2d Mario platformer.
I'm in no hurry and will probably wait for it to go on sale in a year or so.
Re: Nintendo Reportedly Briefed Activision On 'Switch 2' Back In 2022

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct, Then?
I can see how some would be happy but the 2 games mentioned that I was interested in were the wrong versions.
I was hoping for a full 3d Donkey Kong game, not Mario vs Donkey Kong and a full F Zero remake, not more online rubbish.
Also Diddy Kong was mentioned but we get him as a character in Mario Kart rather than the Diddy Kong Racing everyone wants.
Not much to persuade me to renew my Online Expansion pack.
Re: Nintendo Direct September 2023: Time, Where To Watch, Our Predictions
Hopefully they'll mention something new for the Online Expansion Pack.
It'll be 2 years old in October and Gamecube games would definitely persuade me to renew.
Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct Showcase?
When I initially heard of this game I though the last thing we need is another Mario 2d platformer.
There do seem to be some interesting ideas but I'm still not sure if it's worth paying full price for.
I'll wait for the reviews but it will have to be very original and very special for me to buy day 1.
Re: Video: The N64 Kart Racer That Deserves To Be On Switch
I put way more time into Diddy Kong Racing than Mario Kart 64 but it was really hard and I never managed to complete the whole game.
I'd love to see the Snowboard Kids games on the switch too.
Re: Video: Red Dead Redemption Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & Xbox 360)
@Stamina_Wheel That's reassuring but Rockstar were still the ones that allowed the triology to be released in that state and they've lost my trust.

Re: Video: Red Dead Redemption Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & Xbox 360)
I remember before GTA trilogy was released, they put out a trailer which looked amazing only for it to be a complete mess.
While this looks fine, I'll still be waiting for the reviews.
Re: Surprise! Red Dead Redemption Blasts Onto Switch Next Week
Potentially brilliant news but the old saying "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" rings true.
After GTA Triology, there's no way I'm trusting Rockstar until all reviews are in.
Re: Puzzlers Mini Metro And Mini Motorways Get New Crossover Maps In 'Miniversary' Update
@solarwolf07 Mini Metro is great on mobile.
While I don't own the Switch version, I can't imagine the controls being as good unless you play in handheld with touch screen in which case you might as well get the much cheaper mobile version anyway.
Re: Forever Entertainment Hints At New Remake Announcement In 2023
@Vriess Yeah definitely and even without sales, it's worth £25 in its current state.
It's better that they do what they do rather than not release games at all.

Re: New Star GP Brings Retro-Inspired Racing To Switch Later This Year
Hopefully it will be like Hotshot Racing but without the rubber banding.
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Gets A Tasty Limited Time Discount (UK)
Well I ended up buying the expansion pack after cancelling last October. Its surprising how little has been added since then especially for N64.
Although, I am enjoying Kuru kuru kuririn for GBA.
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Gets A Tasty Limited Time Discount (UK)
It's usually £35 so the discount is 25%.
I haven't renewed the expansion pack since the first year due to the meagre monthly additions but this has got me tempted.
Re: Nintendo "Currently Have No Specifics To Share" About Other Legacy Platforms For Switch Online
That's fine. I'd prefer to buy and own certain Gamecube games rather than rent them for a year.

Re: Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged Speeds Onto Switch This October
The first game is surprisingly good.
I wrote it off at first but tried it when it came to gamepass and it is one of my favourite racers.
I imagine it's perfect for handheld play.
Re: River City Girls 2 Is Getting A Performance Update On Nintendo Switch
Hopefully they have improved the load times between areas
Re: Sega Looks Set To Raise Its Game Prices Up To $70
There have been a very small selection of games that I'd have paid that price for but none have come from Sega.
It'd have to be Elden Ring or Tears of the Kingdom level for me to even consider it.
Re: Video: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom And Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Side-By-Side Comparison

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong No Longer Releasing In The First Half Of 2023
What annoys me is the developer commented in May saying "can't be too much longer surely".
They shouldn't keep building hype for an imminent release when they know they are behind schedule.
People will loose trust and interest.
Re: Poll: What Did You Make Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Final Trailer?
Looks very promising but I'll still base my opinion on how good the combat is.
After being spoilt with games like Elden Ring recently it needs to have evolved.
Re: Soapbox: Can We Stop Pretending Switch Can't Run Call Of Duty?
I am sure the Switch can run a modern Call of Duty game with a few cutbacks graphically. My concern would be Nintendos online code.
I cancelled my online membership as Splatoon 3 matches kept crashing and I doubt Call of Duty would be any better.
Re: Nintendo Will Repair Out-Of-Warranty Joy-Con For Free In The UK, EEA, Switzerland
Literally threw mine in the bin about a month ago after getting replacement.
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer Gets Creative With Vehicle Building, Fused Weapons
@PinderSchloss Yeah, I loved every minute of Breath of the Wild but absolutely played it to death and wanted something completely new.
At $70 I'll probably wait for the review to come in.
Re: Poll: What Are Your Hype Levels for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
