Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2023 Nintendo Direct?

PeteW

Much more variety than September's Direct full of farming sims and JRPGs.

I still don't think the expansion pack is worth it with its broken online code and no commitment from Nintendo for a certain number of games each month. I've played the N64 games I wanted to in the first year and won't be paying $50 to rent the 3 GBA games I'm vaguely interested in.

Also the Splatoon 3 DLC doesn't seem to offer anything playable.

I've never played a Metroid Prime game so may try that depending on reviews and Zelda looks great.

Something for everyone but I wasn't blown away.

Re: Game Boy And GBA Coming To Switch Online Today

PeteW

Expansion pass is slowly improving but having played all the n64 games for about 3 hours total until my subscription ran out in October there's still not really enough to warrant spending $50.

The online doesn't work and Splatoon 3 matches used to constantly crash. (Please someone let me know if the online code has been fixed).

Without nintendo making a commitment to a certain number of games a month, I'm not giving them my money for a whole year.

Re: Nintendo Direct Confirmed For Tomorrow

PeteW

In September I after reading predictions I thought we were going to get Silksong, GBA on online, Wind Waker, Donkey Kong to name a few and got nothing I wanted.

I'm not getting my hopes up for this one. That way anything good will be a nice surprise.

Re: Poll: Which Of Rare's Classic N64 Games Would You Like To See On Switch Online?

PeteW

Diddy Kong Racing would probably be my pick but people forget how hard it was.

I also find that now we have more choice and more technically advanced games, it can be easy to loose interest in a 25 year old game when it starts to get frustrating.

Back in the 90s I could only afford one or two games a year so would grind it out and get my moneys worth.

I think most people would only get an hour or so out of it before switching back to Mariokart.

Not worth resubscribing to expansion pack for but I may play it if it gets added to gamepass.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo's Next Console Have To Be 'Another' Switch?

PeteW

I'd love a rotating screen as the switch has become one of the best ever consoles for shmups.

A proper d pad and more comfortable grips would also be nice.

I hope they add some nintendo inventiveness but at the same time don't stray too far away from the switch and other consoles as it would be nice to have something capable of playing third party titles available everywhere else.

Re: Soapbox: If You Thought Last Year Was "Sad" For Switch, 2023 Might Be Hard To Handle

PeteW

Not being a JRPG, Pokemon or farming sim fan, it was slim pickings, though I did enjoy Kirby, Portal Collection and Splatoon 3.

The disappointment of the September Direct and the lack of any meaningful addition to the expansion pack pushed me to buy a Series X and Gamepass. My first non Nintendo console since the Dreamcast.

I have to say with all the free stuff on Gamepass, I have hardly had to spend any money on games (apart from Elden Ring) and I have hardly touched my switch since.

Nintendo could have had my full gaming budget if they had tried a bit harder but they do things their own way and the competition has lapped them several times.

Re: Nintendo Considering "Various Initiatives" And "Further Enhancements" For The Switch Online Service

PeteW

I know the current service is cheaper than the top xbox and playstation services but it literally offers a tiny fraction of the content.

Xbox offers hundreds of full games including loads of brand new AAA series x titles, xbox one, 360 and original xbox games.

Subscribers get discounts on games, free trials, achievement points which can be collected and exchanced for vouchers (making gamepass effectively free) and you only need to pay one month at a time.

Even at the current price, Nintendo would need to add gameboy, gamecube together with a promise to add at least 5 games a month for it to even approach the value of its competitors.

Re: While Old Games Are Easily Delivered, Nintendo Is Focused On New Experiences, Says Miyamoto

PeteW

A games company should obviously focus on the future but offering backwards compatibility does sell those new consoles.

In the first few years of a consoles life cycle, games are scarce and at full price, so gamers are sold by something that makes their current library of games slightly better.

High initial sales means more third party developer support in the long run.

I would never buy a console within the first few years of release if it required me to pay again for games I had already bought.

Re: Sega Wants To Know What Mini Console Fans Would Like To See Next

PeteW

I don't understand the need for these consoles. Surely a compilation pack for current consoles would be far cheaper to produce, allowing them to sell more and make more profit.

If they really want to make a retro console, Saturn and Dreamcast would get the most interest.

I'd love to play

Daytona
Ready 2 Rumble
Power Stone
Jet Set Radio
Crazy Taxi
Space Channel 5

Re: Poll: Is The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Good Enough Value Yet?

PeteW

On Gamepass there are at least ten new games each month. Not 25 year old games but recent games.

Then there are hundreds of titles from Xbox, 360, One and Series X. It allows you to buy one month at a time and while slightly more expensive than the expansion pack, the difference is night and day.

While Goldeneye is the main upcoming attraction for expansion pack, its just one of hundreds of classics we get including most of Rare's back catalogue.

Unless Nintendo bring Gameboy Advance and Gamecube together with a promise to release at least 5 games a month, it's just not approaching the type of value it should offer.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online Library With Pilotwings 64

PeteW

@Yosher Expansion pack is shockingly bad value. Ps5 and Xbox subscription services get 10 or so games each month.

And these are decent modern games. First party day one releases in xbox's case. We get one game every month or 2 from consoles 5, 6 or 7 generations old and don't pay much less.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The Latest Nintendo Direct?

PeteW

Aside from a lot of the rumoured games missing, my biggest disappointment was the expansion pack and no Gameboy Advance.

Yes, we are getting Golden Eye at some point before the end of 2023 but I really thought when Nintendo added another tier to the Online service, they would try to compete with xbox and playstations subscription services.

9 N64 games over the next year, 5 of which are Pokemon and Mario Party is a joke.

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The September 2022 Nintendo Direct?

PeteW

0/10 for me.

Was that it for expansion pack. Mainly mario party and pokemon games. Where was the Game Boy Advance.

I guess I am happy with Golden Eye and 1080 but they could be a year away. Compared to PS5 and Xbox subscription services, this the expansion pack is a joke.

Out of everything else, I was happy with Radiant silvergun and obviously Zelda but I wanted

Diddy Kong Racing
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
F zero gx
Donkey Kong game
New 3d Mario
Silksong
Metroid Prime
Metroid 4
Wind Waker
New Wario Platformer
Rogue Legacy 2

Sony will get my gaming budget for the next six months or so.

Re: Several Major Resident Evil Games Are Coming To Switch

PeteW

I'd love to know the sales figures for these cloud games. I've only tried control so far and it was unplayable.

My Internet connection is pretty fast but there must be many with much faster Internet for these games to sell.

Also, demos only show how the games perform if you play it at a busy time when the rest of the family are using devices. I tried the demo under optimal conditions, bought the game but then couldn't play it most of the time.

Re: The Hardest Games On Nintendo Switch

PeteW

I own most of them and haven't completed a single one although I am very close with Hollow Knight and Dead Cells.

I prefer easier games in general but if it's really good like Hollow Knight I'll persevere .
