I keep changing my mind on whether to get the switch 2 or wait.
This report makes me glad I've kept my Oled for the time being. A switch 2 Oled will be out in 2 or 3 years and by that time they'll be loads of software that gets regularly discounted.
I'll definitely wait for a pro or oled model in a year or 2 and keep my switch oled for the time being.
There's no software that I'm desperate to play on day 1 and it's just too much money.
Hopefully in two years there will be a decent library of games that get regularly discounted, SD express cards will be cheaper and a new model will resolve the battery issues while also offering an oled screen.
It's towards the upper end of what I was expecting.
That said, Nintendo delivered in most of the things I wanted (mainly upscaled switch 1 games).
It looks good and I definitely plan to buy at some stage but there's nothing there that I'm desperate to play on day one. I'll probably wait a year or 2 until games regularly get heavily discounted and there is an oled version.
I want to know if switch 1 games will get upscaling or better frame rates on the new system.
Probably not a big deal once a system is a few years old but in early days when there's not many games out, improving old games gives me a reason to work through my backlog
I upgraded to the oled switch but only because there was a big difference in quality and size.
LCD screens can be brighter than oled and as long as you are not playing in the dark the difference would be minimal presuming Nintendo don't go for a super cheap one.
I would have preferred Nintendo to concentrate their efforts on giving us better visuals and more realistic handling (still arcade though)
Doubling the number of racers will take a lot of processing power and we could end up seeing something only marginally better than what we have, only with 24 players.
It completely ruined the reveal but also had zero effect on whether the console will be a success or not.
That will depend on specs, software and competition.
I very nearly bought a Steam Deck Oled back in November last year and am still tempted. Some must have exclusives for the Switch 2 would almost certainly persuade me to stay on team Nintendo though.
@johnvboy You must have got the 1.6 million figure from the AI result on a Google search giving the 2022 sales.
Its actually 10 million across all 3 variants of steam deck.
I agree it's still a fraction compared to the switch but if you run any company, believe me, they consider someone taking 1, 10 or whatever percentage it is of sales as competition.
My original point wasn't that the Switch 2 will be unsuccessful, just that their software will be more important than ever with PS Portal, Steam deck, windows handhelds and many other handhelds now in development.
Steam deck has only sold 1% of switch sales in total and 10% for 2024.
Still, with steam deck taking 10% of sales in 2024 and Sony Portal taking a similar number, that's a big chunk when Nintendo had a monopoly before.
Steam Deck will upgrade their consoles on a regular basis and if Switch doesn't come up with something special, I'd say they definitely have some competition now.
Until someone works out how to get a light gun to work with switch games on modern TVs, I think this sort of game will be relegated to 90% sales very quickly.
I'd love to play this and the Virtual Cop games again as I could on my Saturn.
@Fake-news I think Xbox Series S or PS4 pro performance will be more like it but base PS4 is a long way behind.
Just as many Switch gamers now would like some of the PS4 games which just aren't possible, soon the PS6 will be out and games like GTA6.
Many will own additional consoles but presuming Nintendo wants to make money and be the only focus of as many gamers budgets as possible, the Switch 2 needs to be powerful enough for developers to include it when making these big games.
I hope that the upscaling and other tricks put it way above the PS4.
If you consider, when the switch was released, it was half way between PS3 and PS4 in power. In other words half a generation behind.
If Switch 2 is now only level with PS4, it's only gone up half a generation since Switch 1 and is now a full generation behind PS5 at the start. Remember PS6 will also release fairly early in the Switch 2s lifecycle.
I've picked up a load of games from previous years on sale and also have quite a few 2024 games on my wishlist.
Marvel Vs Capcom collection tempted me but Capcom games are always ridiculously overpriced at launch and then at least half price within a year. I may pick up Pizza Tower or Nine Sols before the end of the year.
Like most, I sort games by review score on deku deals, set up an email alert for when it reaches the right price and never scroll through the eshop.
I'm sure I'm missing the odd hidden gem without enough metacritic scores.
One way Nintendo could allow people to sort through the crap is to allow user reviews on the eshop like they did with the 3ds. They wouldn't allow people to review a game unless they had bought it and played it for at least a few hours which prevented fake reviews.
I bought the Fighting Collection day one for the Vampire Saviour games but ended up playing them very little.
I thought the price would be the same at £32 and was undecided but £40 is way too much when I know I'll only play 3 of them and it'll be 50% off within a year.
I bought an Xbox in 2020 to compliment my switch as I couldn't get hold of a ps5.
Underwhelmed with Xbox, I had planned to move back to PlayStation when the pro version came out but at that price, I'll wait for the next generation of consoles.
Once a console has a healthy library, it's not so important but in the early days when the few games available are $70 each, it's essential.
It's not just backwards compatibility though. I'll want the console to upscale the resolution or do something to boost the frame rate of my old library. Without this I'll probably wait a year or 2 until the new games are getting regularly discounted.
When switch came out we were halfway between the PS4 and PS5. It's power was halfway between PS3 and PS4 so it was exactly 1 generation behind at launch.
If as this article says, the power is likely to be at PS4 level, we are only getting a half generational upgrade and Switch 2 will be 1.5 generations behind and 2 behind once ps6 arrives.
Nintendo will need to some very good trick up their sleeves if they want $500 from me
Sales must be so low if they're not prepared to renew the licence (unless something new is planned)
It's a shame that after the Switch getting one of the best Shmups of all time, we are now loosing it.
For anyone who hasn't got it yet, it's a fantastic game. It's actually much more accessible for beginners than most other Cave Shmups due to the less dense bullet patterns.
I loved Breath of the Wild but couldn't get into this game.
The building mechanics just didn't feel natural and when I returned to the game after spending a few months concentrating on COD, Id forgotten half the controls for everything.
I keep meaning to return to it but will only do so when I have time to complete it.
I bought my 2ds xl in late 2018 and it was readily available and marketed in all the usual stores.
In this digital age, unless the switch successor offers backwards compatibility I'm going to have to think far more carefully before any future nintendo software or hardware purchases.

Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?
I'm not pretending to be a brilliant gamer and I gave up on the original Hollow Knight when a couple of bosses from the finish.
This game is just ridiculously hard though. I've given up after less than 5 hours play.
Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?
I definitely don't feel any urge to upgrade from my Switch Oled yet and can't see any games announced so far that are likely to change my mind.
Re: First Impressions: Same But Different? - Our Initial Hours With Hollow Knight: Silksong
@TheBigK No, from my first few hours of play, it seems much harder if anything compared to to beginning of the original.
Re: First Impressions: Same But Different? - Our Initial Hours With Hollow Knight: Silksong
I was a boss or 2 away from completing the first game but I still loved it and was immediately hooked, unable to put it down.
There's nothing wrong with this game but I'm not hooked yet.
Re: Round Up: The Final Previews Are In For Hollow Knight: Silksong
I think I was 2 bosses away from completing the last game before giving up.
It definitely doesn't need to get any harder.
Re: Digital Foundry Is "Happy" With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is "Problematic"
@Bizzyb I agree
Re: Digital Foundry Is "Happy" With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is "Problematic"
@Bizzyb I can see that it's greatly improved but battery life and screen quality are an issue for me.
The biggest issue though is the lack of decent software. The only games I'm interested in are the Zelda upgrade packs.
If I was going to be playing them on a massively improved screen on a system with good battery life, maybe I could justify it.
As it stands, I'll definitely buy at some point but probably when there's loads of software that I'm interested in.
Re: Digital Foundry Is "Happy" With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is "Problematic"
I keep changing my mind on whether to get the switch 2 or wait.
This report makes me glad I've kept my Oled for the time being. A switch 2 Oled will be out in 2 or 3 years and by that time they'll be loads of software that gets regularly discounted.
Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch
I'll definitely wait for a pro or oled model in a year or 2 and keep my switch oled for the time being.

Hopefully in two years there will be a decent library of games that get regularly discounted, SD express cards will be cheaper and a new model will resolve the battery issues while also offering an oled screen.
Re: Yes, Call Of Duty Is Still On The Way To Nintendo Hardware
I've always wanted to try a call of duty game with mouse and keyboard.
The new joycon mouse could be perfect for aiming with these games.
Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?
Very tempted but I can't really justify the cost right now.
Maybe if the promised call of duty games take advantage of the joycon mouse, I'll jump on board.
Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?
The only ones that excite me are the improved Zelda games.
I can't justify all that money on that alone. There are too many other things I want to buy. Although the bigger screen seems good.
I'll pick up a switch 2 when there's a decent library of games which regularly get discounted.
I've always wanted to try Call of Duty with a keyboard and mouse so maybe I'll jump on board if those games take advantage of the new joycon mouse.
Re: Poll: GameStop Offers A Tempting Switch 2 Trade-In Deal, But Is It Really Worth It?
With the cost of new faster memory cards, it'd cost more to transfer my 1tb of games over to the switch 2 than Id get as trade in
Re: Video: 20+ Things We Still Don't Know About Switch 2
I wonder how long Nintendo make us wait for folders this time.
They know it's important to people with lots of games and I don't understand why it took them so long with Switch.
Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Comments On Switch 2's "Hefty" Price Hikes
He might be right for some people but for me, I've decided to hold off purely because of the price.
Only games like Breath of the Wild and GTA6 would get me to spend $80.
A golden rule in business is keep raising the price until profits level out so we'll have to see how it works out for them.
Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?
Switch 2 but I'm still finding it hard to get too excited about it this time.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?
Gave almost everything I wanted but we're definitely gonna have to pay for it (even down to tech demos).
I'll wait a year or so until software is regularly discounted.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Priced At $449.99 For The Base Console
It's towards the upper end of what I was expecting.
That said, Nintendo delivered in most of the things I wanted (mainly upscaled switch 1 games).

Re: Opinion: Scrapping Gold Points Makes Sense For Nintendo, But It's A Bitter Pill For Loyal Fans
Games on the switch have always been more expensive or given less generous discounts compared to other systems.
These points bridged the gap slightly but I can see why Nintendo are doing this with a new system.
As they say in business "raise the price untill profits level out"
Re: Talking Point: Why An LCD Screen Isn't The End Of The World For Switch 2
I upgraded to the oled switch but only because there was a big difference in quality and size.
LCD screens can be brighter than oled and as long as you are not playing in the dark the difference would be minimal presuming Nintendo don't go for a super cheap one.
Re: Nintendo President Reiterates Switch Online Will "Continue To Be Available" For Switch 2
Expansion pack is worth it for a year if you've never subscribed to revisit a few old favourites.
The additions are far too meagre for it to be worth coming back after a year though.
Playstation Premium and Gamepass are only slightly more than double the cost if you find a deal and the difference is night and day.
With 30 year old games, I either want to buy and keep a select few or Ill only rent them once.
Id much prefer it if Nintendo added games from all consoles up until the last generation and charged double the amount.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Feel About 24 Racers In Mario Kart 9?
@N00BiSH Humour me, why does better always mean realistic.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Feel About 24 Racers In Mario Kart 9?

I agree with the top and bottom options.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This Thursday
@johnvboy Competition from steam deck, PS Portal, retro handhelds and a whole load of windows versions from many pc manufacturers.
Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This Thursday
Its the games I want to see.
Nintendo have a lot of competition in the handheld market now where they pretty much had a monopoly back in 2017.
Without a very good game lineup or some special trick that has evaded all the leaks, it gonna be very tempting to get a steam deck oled instead.
The Switch has hands down been my most played console of all time so I'm hoping they can repeat the magic.
Re: House Of The Dead 2: Remake Blasts Onto Switch This Spring

Re: Feature: 9 Things Nintendo Could Add To Switch 2 So It's Not 'Just Another Switch'
An comfortable way to attach the joycons when the screen is in vertical (Tate) mode.
3d would be cool too.
Re: Talking Point: After A September No-Show, Will There Be An October Nintendo Direct?
They'll be working on Switch 2 titles so no new Switch 1 games to announce.
They also will want to sell all stock of switch 1 during the holidays before announcing the new console.
I don't think we'll get any news until February.
Re: Poll: Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection Is Out Today, Will You Be Getting It?
I'm waiting for a decent sale.
I bought the Fighting Collection day one for the Vampire Saviour games but ended up playing them very little.

No matter how good it is, that's too much money.
Re: Best Nintendo Switch Roguelikes, Roguelites And Run-Based Games
Loved the Rogue Legacy games and Immortal Redneck.
Keep meaning to buy Binding of Isaac but I normally go for Rogue Lites rather than Rogue Likes as I hate having nothing to show for a really long run.

Power Stone 2 was one of my favourite Dreamcast games.

Re: PSA: Get 50% Off 'Mushihimesama' Before Its Switch eShop Delisting This Week
Re: Talking Point: The Switch eShop Could Be Great With These Few Tweaks
They should allow user review scores for games after if has been played for a couple of hours.
Sorting searches by review score would quickly weed out the rubbish.
Re: Bullet-Hell Shmup 'Mushihimesama' To Be Delisted From The Switch eShop
To anyone still on the fence, buy it now.
It's one of the best shmups ever made and it's very accessible for beginners due to the less dense bullet patterns compared to other cave games.
Re: Reaction: A Direct That Delivered, And Shows That Switch Still Has Plenty Of Pep
Metroid 4 releasing in 2025 that I'll definitely buy and one or 2 possibilities for this year.
Normally, I'd rate it a 6 but as we're at the end of the switches lifecycle, it's probably worth a 7.
Hollow Knight, Rhythm Heaven or F Zero would have earnt a much higher score from me.
Re: Developer M2 Wants To Bring More Games To The Switch
Mushihimesama Futari please
Re: Viral Switch Sensation Suika Game Gets Online Multiplayer Update This Week
The games really good but unless I'm missing something, I think there's limited strategy available.
I've been stuck on a score of around 3500 for months and this score has stayed around the same each time I play.
It's still well worth the money
Re: Talking Point: One Year On, Has Everyone Beaten Ganondorf In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
