It’s nice to have for sure, but once again, people who do this as a hobby have created better emulation software than Nintendo and that will never stop being bonkers to me.
Sorry to delve into politics, but I wouldn't be too hopeful on the Vietnam tariffs going away. Most of the countries Trump announced crazy tariffs for either don't charge tariffs on US imports at all, or if they do, they are very small. He's upset that the US buys WAY more stuff produced in Vietnam than people in Vietnam buy from the US, but that's not going to change. So many huge US companies manufacture in Vietnam, so a huge amount of product will be shipped in that direction. Vietnam doesn't have the population or the wealth to buy the same quantity of US goods.
The good news is that it shouldn't be 46% on top of this price. They SHOULD have expected a 25-30% tariff anyway and priced that in. Nobody was expecting 46% though, so they might just add on what they need to, in order to cover the difference.
The most disappointing bit of all for me. It's been a long time since I've used a display that's not OLED, even my cheap, Chinese handheld emulation device has one.
They won't be cheaper though. Nobody sells Switch games for the RRP, other than Nintendo and their eShop. Okay, maybe Game price them at RRP too, but that's why nobody shops at Game.
This is kind of disappointing with regards to keeping our current libraries going forward. Yeah, Microsoft does this with original Xbox and 360 games on current hardware, but that's down to decisions that were made well over a decade ago at this point. Going forward, I don't see why there is any reason to think any game you buy on an Xbox or Playstation won't just be there for you on every new piece of hardware. With Nintendo, I don't really have that same confidence. They know how much money it makes them to start over and make you re-buy things again.
If Trump doesn't backtrack on his tariffs, a price hike later in the year for the US seems inevitable as these are being produced in Vietnam and he's just slapped an almost 50% tariff on goods being imported from there. They might have got a couple of million through before today, but all that stock will be gone immediately.
@PULPCAT Smyths and Very sold out, but on Amazon you can request an invite to buy. So they'll go through all the requests, probably in order they were submitted, and email links to people.
Is it though? I don’t think DS, 3DS, Wii or Wii U will ever feel right on anything but that hardware. It’s why I hated that period of forced gimmicks. Nintendo can drop GBA, N64 and GameCube files on any new hardware and it’s going to be able to play it without compromise. Not the games from the gimmick consoles though. I hope we’re done with that sort of thing forever.
Probably a 5, but I consider a 5 just an average game, rather than utterly awful like a lot of people seem to do. Not particular ambitious or imaginative, and the performance issues are pretty bad too. Both Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi peaked in their first one or two games of the series, and have been on a constantly downward slope ever since it seems.
Games made by hundreds or even thousands of people cannot be art. Most games made by single individuals are not art either, although I guess they could be. Even a company with a dozen employees has to aim to make enough money to pay those dozen employees their salaries. You can’t make art if what you’re making also HAS to make money.
People are saying Nintendo can emulate what they own and it’s not hypocrisy. That’s not the point. Based on past evidence (Nintendo selling us ROMs they themselves have downloaded from piracy sites) they will almost certainly be using an emulator someone else worked to build. Could even be an emulator they’ve tried to get shut down. But now they want to show off their old games and by doing this it shows they know this is the best way. Why didn’t they run it off a Switch? They chose to pick a community built emulator, the kind of thing they are always trying to get rid of.
Yuzu was using Nintendo assets that were leaked, so fair enough that being shut down. As far as we know this one was all legal though, but it’s essentially bullying by Nintendo assets they know individuals like this won’t have the money to fight them in a court of law.
Also all a bit ironic when it’s been shown in the past Nintendo steal hobbyist coder’s code for emulating on their own systems, again as they know individuals can’t afford to go to the courts for a case they’d absolutely win.
This is why I don't understand why such a seemingly large amount of people using this site are happy whenever an event goes by without us seeing new hardware. The Switch has been holding back Nintendo games for years at this point.
Erm... they don't refer to it as Retro? They just show young adult aged people who have nostalgic memories of playing that thing as a little kid. Which definitely fits. There are people who would have picked up a 3DS as their first gaming device at age 5, and will now be 18.
I don’t care about the obsession with ownership. My only concern with fully digital is the cost aspect, and to be honest, this is only an issue with Nintendo. At any point in the last 4 years, I could jump on Amazon and get New Horizons for £35-40. Over this time there have been frequent sales where it’s even less. Meanwhile to buy it digitally, it would have cost me a whopping 25% extra, other than a paltry 12 days, in the last 4 years where the digital price came down to match the standard price of physical.
Game Pass is staggering value. I know the Gold Upgrade trick has been downgraded slightly in the last year, but I got 6 years of GPU for less than £3 a month. Just can’t overstate the insane value that is. Over time it will inevitably go up though like the TV services have done.
On the MS ecosystem, digital feels much more future proof than physical. It is inevitable we get consoles without disc drives. Maybe not next gen, but it’s coming. My huge collection of 360 discs then become obsolete, but I’m almost certain to be able to still download and play all the 360 games I’ve bought digitally over the years. Nintendo will never do this because re-releasing old games is such a big part of theory strategy, through remasters or remakes. They don’t want to to keep access to the stuff you bought a Generation or two ago.
27 hours for me. I knew I’d not played a lot this year, but shocked it’s that low. 12 hours of Mario 3D World which was my Christmas 2022 game, 7 hours of Pokemon Scarlet, 3 hours of Pokemon Violet and 4 hours of Animal Crossing.
Geoff and these awards have always been a joke. They will never be prestigious when he makes them feel so much like advertisements (often, not even adverts for games)
Way more accurate than the Miyamoto quote, since plenty of rushed games come out fine, and plenty of delayed games are still bad. Including Nintendo games. Miyamoto's quote implies any game that is delayed eventually comes out and is great.
Knew Twin Snakes would come on top. Personally I think it’s an awful attempt to remake a great game, and fails to understand the vibe of Kojima’s game entirely.
@GrailUK It's more than just paying for the game 5 days early. I did it for Forza Horizon 5, and will do it for the upcoming Forza Motorsport, but the price of the 'premium upgrade' is the same price as the future DLC packs, so the new cars, tracks, or in Horizon's case, expansion maps. If you know you'll want the DLC anyway, it's a no brainer to get 5 days 'early access' from it too.
I feel like you've let yourselves down a bit by talking about your surprise that these are just re-releases. Konami have always been pretty clear about that.
Think Nintendo Life could do with some refresher courses on the differences between re-releases, roms, ports, remasters and remakes.
I've felt this way for over 20 years. You don't need to buy separate TVs to watch different channels. I always buy every console from Nintendo, Sony and MS, and I'd much rather just buy one.
People acting like Twin Snakes is comparable to REmake or Metroid Prime Remastered... no, it's a different game. It doesn't even feel like a game from the same series as the others. The cut scenes are goofy, the voice acting and music is terrible, while the mechanics they added from MGS2, while sticking to the original MGS map just break the gameplay.
A 10 from Edge means something. One of the few reviewers that actually uses the full scale instead of just scoring everything between 7 and 10. Famitsu, not so much. Quite well known they’ve taken payment for perfect scores multiple times.
The stuff people always think of as E3 has never really been part of E3. The presentations, where announcements are made, are not officially part of it. As people who just enjoy it online, the booths on the show floor are irrelevant.

Re: FIFA Will Work With Other Developers To Launch Brand New Football Games
@nocdaes All that stuff is irrelevant. All the FIFA license gets you is the name FIFA and the World Cup every four years. And FIFA wanted a billion dollars for four years of the license.
The leagues, clubs and players are licensed from other organisations.
