Re: Nintendo Of America President Says Tariffs "Not Factored" Into Switch 2 Price

Peach64

Sorry to delve into politics, but I wouldn't be too hopeful on the Vietnam tariffs going away. Most of the countries Trump announced crazy tariffs for either don't charge tariffs on US imports at all, or if they do, they are very small. He's upset that the US buys WAY more stuff produced in Vietnam than people in Vietnam buy from the US, but that's not going to change. So many huge US companies manufacture in Vietnam, so a huge amount of product will be shipped in that direction. Vietnam doesn't have the population or the wealth to buy the same quantity of US goods.

The good news is that it shouldn't be 46% on top of this price. They SHOULD have expected a 25-30% tariff anyway and priced that in. Nobody was expecting 46% though, so they might just add on what they need to, in order to cover the difference.

Re: The Switch 2 Will Emulate Switch Games, Because It Shares No Internal Hardware With Its Predecessor

Peach64

This is kind of disappointing with regards to keeping our current libraries going forward. Yeah, Microsoft does this with original Xbox and 360 games on current hardware, but that's down to decisions that were made well over a decade ago at this point. Going forward, I don't see why there is any reason to think any game you buy on an Xbox or Playstation won't just be there for you on every new piece of hardware. With Nintendo, I don't really have that same confidence. They know how much money it makes them to start over and make you re-buy things again.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Priced At $449.99 For The Base Console

Peach64

If Trump doesn't backtrack on his tariffs, a price hike later in the year for the US seems inevitable as these are being produced in Vietnam and he's just slapped an almost 50% tariff on goods being imported from there. They might have got a couple of million through before today, but all that stock will be gone immediately.

Re: Talking Point: The 3DS Library Is Ripe For Switch 2, But Is NSO The Way To Go?

Peach64

Is it though? I don’t think DS, 3DS, Wii or Wii U will ever feel right on anything but that hardware. It’s why I hated that period of forced gimmicks. Nintendo can drop GBA, N64 and GameCube files on any new hardware and it’s going to be able to play it without compromise. Not the games from the gimmick consoles though. I hope we’re done with that sort of thing forever.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Mario & Luigi: Brothership?

Peach64

Probably a 5, but I consider a 5 just an average game, rather than utterly awful like a lot of people seem to do. Not particular ambitious or imaginative, and the performance issues are pretty bad too. Both Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi peaked in their first one or two games of the series, and have been on a constantly downward slope ever since it seems.

Re: Random: Nintendo's Museum Might Be Emulating SNES Games On Windows PC

Peach64

People are saying Nintendo can emulate what they own and it’s not hypocrisy. That’s not the point. Based on past evidence (Nintendo selling us ROMs they themselves have downloaded from piracy sites) they will almost certainly be using an emulator someone else worked to build. Could even be an emulator they’ve tried to get shut down. But now they want to show off their old games and by doing this it shows they know this is the best way. Why didn’t they run it off a Switch? They chose to pick a community built emulator, the kind of thing they are always trying to get rid of.

Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

Peach64

Yuzu was using Nintendo assets that were leaked, so fair enough that being shut down. As far as we know this one was all legal though, but it’s essentially bullying by Nintendo assets they know individuals like this won’t have the money to fight them in a court of law.

Also all a bit ironic when it’s been shown in the past Nintendo steal hobbyist coder’s code for emulating on their own systems, again as they know individuals can’t afford to go to the courts for a case they’d absolutely win.

Re: Talking Point: What Would Make You Happy To Give Up Physical Games And Go 100% Digital?

Peach64

I don’t care about the obsession with ownership. My only concern with fully digital is the cost aspect, and to be honest, this is only an issue with Nintendo. At any point in the last 4 years, I could jump on Amazon and get New Horizons for £35-40. Over this time there have been frequent sales where it’s even less. Meanwhile to buy it digitally, it would have cost me a whopping 25% extra, other than a paltry 12 days, in the last 4 years where the digital price came down to match the standard price of physical.

Game Pass is staggering value. I know the Gold Upgrade trick has been downgraded slightly in the last year, but I got 6 years of GPU for less than £3 a month. Just can’t overstate the insane value that is. Over time it will inevitably go up though like the TV services have done.

On the MS ecosystem, digital feels much more future proof than physical. It is inevitable we get consoles without disc drives. Maybe not next gen, but it’s coming. My huge collection of 360 discs then become obsolete, but I’m almost certain to be able to still download and play all the 360 games I’ve bought digitally over the years. Nintendo will never do this because re-releasing old games is such a big part of theory strategy, through remasters or remakes. They don’t want to to keep access to the stuff you bought a Generation or two ago.

Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Remains Strong As Starfield Warps Into View

Peach64

@GrailUK It's more than just paying for the game 5 days early. I did it for Forza Horizon 5, and will do it for the upcoming Forza Motorsport, but the price of the 'premium upgrade' is the same price as the future DLC packs, so the new cars, tracks, or in Horizon's case, expansion maps. If you know you'll want the DLC anyway, it's a no brainer to get 5 days 'early access' from it too.

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Announced For "The Latest Platforms"

Peach64

People acting like Twin Snakes is comparable to REmake or Metroid Prime Remastered... no, it's a different game. It doesn't even feel like a game from the same series as the others. The cut scenes are goofy, the voice acting and music is terrible, while the mechanics they added from MGS2, while sticking to the original MGS map just break the gameplay.

Re: Rumour: Switch Pro Was Real But Got Cancelled, Claims Digital Foundry

Peach64

I never understand why some people are so happy there's not been a Pro version. You don't want to buy a new console? You don't have to. If a Pro version came out and you didn't buy it, you keep on having the same experience you say you've been happy with for years. For the rest of us, good games are being let down by the hardware and we'd happily pay to play them as intended. It doesn't effect your experience.

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Enjoy The Second Biggest Franchise Launch Of All Time

Peach64

Even if the reviews had said the performance is so bad, don't buy this game, it wouldn't have affected the sales. The vast majority of people who buy games don't read reviews, and I'd say that percentage is even higher for a series like Pokemon.

There's a decent game under the performance issues. It has that usual Nintendo open world problem of feeling a bit empty, and not very alive, but that will improve as they make more of these games. My biggest hope now is that they have 4 years until the 30th anniversary, which is when they probably want Gen 10 to hit. Please, Game Freak, no more spin-offs until then. Get ILCA to do Let's Go Johto, fill another year by giving us old Pokemon games through the Switch 'Virtual Console' and just concentrate on nailing Gen 10.

Re: Pokémon Fans Vent Frustrations Online About Scarlet & Violet's Technical Issues

Peach64

Game Freak need to recruit people that are used to working on bigger games. I cut them a bit of slack at the start as they were forced to jump from being a handheld developer to a console developer, but at this point they have probably had access to Switch development kits for not far off a decade.

It’s not just performance struggles, but there’s cut corners everywhere that make the game feel so low budget.

Re: Review: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet - An Open-World Poké Playground Full Of Promise (And Tech Issues)

Peach64

It’s easy to moan about the Switch hardware being out dated. It is, and I will never understand how some people are gleeful every time a rumoured Switch Pro announcement fails to happen. I just don’t get that attitude. You don’t want an upgraded model? Don’t buy one.

However, regardless of all that, GF are really struggling with the Switch. You can’t say it’s entirely due to them making a game that’s too ambitious for the hardware. It’s really no more demanding than Breath of the Wild and that game runs like a dream compared to this.

It will still sell amazingly, and GF will never feel the pressure to get better at optimisation.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's Latest Limited-Time Distribution Event Gets Online Access

Peach64

Thank goodness they're letting us get codes via email this time. I get why they do this, they probably get paid by the stores to get customers through the door, but 5 mythicals are all I'm missing from a living dex, and two of them were part of the last Game giveaway (Volcanion and Marshadow), and my closest two game stores are now just corners inside Sports Direct where the staff didn't know anything about the codes, so I've missed out on that one.

Also I think it's fine to do these giveaways at this point. The game is 3 years old and about to be replaced by a new generation. They've got much better at putting mythicals in the games the last few years, rather than just being distributions, but this is just a sort of goodbye present to Gen 8.

Re: No GoldenEye 007 Announcement? 'Agent 64' Just About Makes Up For It

Peach64

@Ricube You might know this already, but apparently the ownership of the IP is a complete mess. Nobody is quite sure who owns it, and they can't be bothered to do the work to find out. I'd also love to be able to play the originals or get a sequel, but Nightdive Studios tried pretty hard to 'remaster' the two games about a decade ago and ended up giving up over the ownership debacle.
