I think the Switch version of FIFA actually sold through most of it's initial stock. On Amazon it's on back order until next week. If EA sold pretty much all they shipped for launch weekend then they'll be very happy.
When I saw this name pop up, I assumed it was part of the Kairosoft line of mobile games. What a nice surprise to have something like this come out of nowhere. Will definitely be a day one purchase when I buy a switch.
That's a very pointless stat. The only thing it's really comparable to is the 3DS which was widely regarded as a flop. I'm sure the switch will be right up there compared to all Nintendo hardware's first 12 months, but saying it's had the best first calendar year means next to nothing when you look at when other machines launched.
Kind of a strange article! The opening talks about Rockstar the developer but the focus of the list seems to be about publishing. I don't think anyone considers Earthworm Jim 3D a Rockstar game!
I also think it's weird that the author talks as if Rockstar and Nintendo fell out and that's why the games stopped coming. The games stopped because Nintendo put out two consoles that were not suited to be multi format game development.
I'm sure they could port the 360/PS3 version of GTA quite easily, and no doubt many on here would hail it as a megaton, but at this point GTA V is like Minecraft, in that it won't be a system seller because most non-Nintendo-only gamers already have it.
On a personal level it was a little disappointing. I get that the Doom and Wolfenstein announcements were huge, but I'm one of those that has other consoles and I'm never going to buy multi platform games on the switch. I thought Mario Odyssey looked excellent, and it's probably the game I'm most looking forward to for the rest of the year, but on the other hand, XBC2 underwhelmed. I think XBX contributes a little to my lack of excitement for that one, despite the original XBC being one of my favourite RPGs of all time.
I'm still very happy they chose to announce games like Fire Emblem and Metroid way before they're ready to show them to us. That's the kind of thing that makes me feel enthusiastic about the console having a bright future. Sony do the same thing, and you have this road map of big games that stretches out for the next 3 years and it just gives you such confidence in your purchase.
I don't really understand the point of it when it's just bundling together things at RRP, especially when you can pick up all these things for less with minimal effort in terms of shopping around. Then again, don't really see the point in ANY bundles for the same reason, and it always baffles me why people think a bundle will encourage sales. The game will encourage sales for sure, the fact you can get the game and console in one box instead of two will not.
Reminds of of Bethesda coming out in the Wii U era, saying Nintendo ignored their advice about Wii U's architecture and ease of porting. A lot on here got mad at them, but this kind of shows they were genuine.
I think a lot of publishers will be watching the sales of this game to judge future Switch support.
Not surprised by the UK bashing in these comments anymore, but the fact is, the UK is one of the most open-minded markets for video games out there. Everyone here is saying UK is 'Sony territory' now, but last gen, the same people would claim the UK is 'MS territory'. Fact is, the UK doesn't blindly follow any brand. Sega, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have all have their machines come out on top at some point.
What's the best selling console this gen in the US and worldwide? It's the PS4, same as the UK. Last gen, the UK and US followed exactly the same pattern of the Wii being the sales leader before it just stopped selling suddenly and the 360 overtook it in BOTH markets. Before that, PS2 was the clear winner in the US and the UK. The two markets almost always go the same way every time, but everyone here clings to this narrative that the UK hates Nintendo and the US love them.
I don't know if this is just people clinging to the NES/SNES era, but that's all down to Nintendo. At that time, they weren't really focused on a global market. They let other companies handle the release of the NES in the UK and Europe and the whole operation was pathetic. As a result, Nintendo weren't part of everyone's childhood like the NES was over in the US. Can you imagine how most people would think of Nintendo if you took away the NES and SNES?
I don't think there will be anything Nintendo this year. Last year they needed filler because they were holding back all the iPhone upgrades for the 10 year model. This year they'll have enough to talk about. Never know though.
Finally some sense! I wonder if they'll tweak the OS to prevent or being so easy to hack. Hearing people loading the entire NES library onto them made me want one, but by then it was too late,
I cannot wait for physical media to go away. It's been a bottle-neck for games development for over 10 years now. People need to let go of their obsession of having things to display on their shelves too. It's all about playing the game, not admiring a box.
Don't think there's any shame in losing out to a game from one of the biggest IPs on Playstation. They'd surely consider it being so high to be a success. Very well deserved too!
Hmm, not quite what I was expecting when they announced a new No More Heroes, but I suppose we should just be thankful it exists in any form. Look forward to seeing more.
I never got the hype over miiverse as a social network, but the number of games that rely on quite heavily is kind of alarming. Mario vs Donkey Kong Tipping Stars will suffer hugely by this being turned off. It can't cost much to keep it running. When the Wii's network went down, we were told it was because of Gamespy, and now that Nintendo were running their own with Wii U, it wouldn't end so quickly. Instead, they're shutting it down even quicker.
I must have missed the negative reaction to this. Been pretty interested in since the very first leak, back when the Switch was still the NX. Glad it's turned out quite well. Who have thought Ubisoft would have put together a Mario RPG that's reviewed better than any of Nintendo's attempts in nearly 10 years.
Unfortunately I think the question is what purpose it serve the companies behind the chart to include digital sales? Companies like Chart-Trak and NPD work on tracking sales so they can sell this information to marketers and often back to the publishers (publishers know what they have sold to a retailer, but are often still interested in what a retailer sells on to the consumer).
The ONLY way to get digital sales figures is to get it from the publisher. That's going to cost money, and in some cases, the publisher might not even want to divulge it, even with the offer of money on the table. On top of this, one of Chart-Trak/NPD are now missing one of their biggest consumers, as they can't sell this data back to the publisher.
It all comes down to the purpose behind these charts, and just like all these games, it's all about making money for someone. Digital sales being missing doesn't really make them pointless, as the point of them was never really for us to discuss them every week/month.
You guys are mocking one person for taking too long to develop his game, but this was announced the same week as Breath of the Wild was... and that's had hundreds of people working on it.
I thought it was very good. Those Metroid and Pokemon announcements get me way more excited for the switch than Kirby, Yoshi, Fire Emblem Warriors etc. Of what they actually showed of, only Mario Odyssey looked truly amazing so glad they broke habit and made the early announcements.
YES! Been crying out for this kind of announcement from Nintendo for years. Doesn't matter if it's 3 years out and not ready to show, just knowing it's coming makes me way more excited about the switch that being able to see tired Kirby and Yoshi games.
Looks pretty good! Most people on here slate them, but Ubisoft usually does something original on Nintendo consoles, which they DON'T do for the MS/Sony machines.
Always baffles me how hard people find it to understand KS. The previous goal is 4.4 million, so they need an extra 600k for a Switch version, not the full 5 million to make it.
I've backed it as I love the games these people have made before. KS is a chance for you to make a game happen that wouldn't get funded by a publisher. Don't think of as an early pre-order. You're getting a chance to make a game that's unlikely become reality.
Will definitely buy the Splatoon one. I wish they offered the same design on multiple coloured shirts. Not a fan of dark t-shirts, but I'd have bought the star fox one in a light grey.
Level 5 should b pretty disappointed with how Nintendo UK market their games IMO. The Layton games sold really well here, and then they did an RPG based on football. A game made by the people behind a smash hit, based around the nation's favourite sport.... it should have been a HUGE hit, but Nintendo seemed to think because there was an anime of it, there was no need for a marketing push.
Would be pleasantly surprised if that was the case, but still yet to see any evidence it's going to outperform the Wii U. Just to be clear, I absolutely think it's going to beat the Wii U sales, but everyone keeps referring to it as a staggering success, when I think it's still tracking behind the Wii U? It just seems a bit daft to go 'woah, it prints money' when there's no actual evidence it's not the same people that bought a Wii U going out and putting down their money again. It's like when people got excited over headlines like Wii U sales increase 600%, when sales were still absolutely pathetic.
So far, the only negative things most reviews seem to be saying is 'This game feels like something that came out 20 years ago on the 64', but pretty sure that's what most people wanted from it?
It was made by a handful of people, it was never going to be the next step in 3D platforming games.
Spoiler Alert: Shenmue 3 isn't going to have any large towns, let alone cities to explore, on a budget of $6 million.
I think it will too, but that's because Scorpio like PS4 Pro is not intended as a mass market product. It's a high end option for a small percentage of users, sort of like Apple offer. Consoles don't tend to take off with the mainstream until they go under £200, so the bulk of consumers will go for the standard machines.
The title makes it sound like one of those low-budget straight to home video type releases.
I think the first one had just the right amount of references. Pixar are good are doing what they do, no need to just make the movie all about references to other things.
I agree there's no good reason it should skip the Switch, but really disagree with the idea that there are still more NES fans playing on Nintendo consoles than the other machines these days. The NES and SNES were mainstream hits, played by far more than the 'Nintendo fan' demographic. I'd bet there are more PS4 owners that used to have a NES than Wii U and Switch owners than used to have a NES.
Little bit confused why people are acting like it's some huge cultural smash. They sold 3 million Wii U consoles in a month. How did that turn out? We won't have a clear picture of how successsul the Switch is until the sales figures from its first Christmas are in.
Really surprised Twilight Princess Wii had better launch numbers as with the Wii, a lot of people would have been happy with just Wii Sports... but who is the market that is buying a Switch and NOT Zelda?
Also people saying that 80k is not a good number... it's probably exactly the number that Nintendo shipped. NeoGAF are analyzing console launch numbers but it's irrelevant because pretty much everything sells out at launch, so it always comes down to how many could they ship.

I'll get one, but likely in 2018. Just like every other console launch in the last 5 years, I've not even considered for a moment buying it day 1. I'm getting Breath of the Wild on Wii U (VERY excited for the game) and the rest of the launch looks like shovel ware.
I eventually buy all the consoles, so I'm never short of games to play. It makes sense to wait for there to be 10+ games I'd want and can't get anywhere else. Did this with the Wii U and PS4 and saved a lot of money too.
