Re: Netflix's Gaming Documentary High Score Is A Nostalgia Trip Worth A Watch

Peach64

Interested to watch this. I know it's not the same people, but the Toys That Made Us is one of the best docu-series I've ever seen. A lot of the toys I don't care about, but it's still fascinating.

I do think these things are not aimed at fans as hardcore as us though. More the casual gamers that buy 1-2 games a year, and don't visit forums or watch gaming stuff on youtube.

Re: Yep, The Switch Has Now Outsold The NES

Peach64

@SwitchForce PS2 has pretty much the best software attach rate of any console out there. Over 10 games sold for every console. Doesn’t sound like people bought it just for DVDs. The Switch is around 6.5 for each console.

Re: Feature: All The Paper Mario Games, Ranked By You

Peach64

Wow, look at all those 8/10s from NLife!

First two Paper Mario games are among my favourite of all time, but it's now been over 15 years since the series had a great game. Super Paper Mario seemed like a big drop in quality at the time, but even that was decent. Since then, I'd go as far as saying they've all been BAD games. It's now like Star Fox, a series that is lauded, but has far more bad games than good games.

Re: Feature: Keeping It Physical In A Digital Age

Peach64

I've got rid of all physical media other than games and I'm so happy with it. So much needless clutter out of my house.

There's so many issues with games though, and with Nintendo more than most. With music, movies and TV shows I know there's no worry about things becoming unavailable, but with gaming it's far too common. Hopefully in a few years, console generations and dedicated hardware will be consigned to history, and that will at least stop games being 'stuck' on old hardware. The licensing issue will still remain though.

Another issue is the pricing. Sales are great, but it's still so much easier to find physical games dropping in price, and of course the pre-owned market.

@ThanosReXXX I bought a new PC in March, and not many come with a disc drive these days. If you're buying a PC game it's likely through steam or EGS, and if you're watching films, it's probably on a streaming service.

Re: Talking Point: Is Nintendo Making As Many Games As It Used To?

Peach64

A lot of the switch games included in those numbers are also ports from their previous consoles. The Switch release schedule feels too much like the Wii U for me. Yes, there are more 3rd party ports coming in which will satisfy a lot of people, but for someone that buys all consoles and uses Nintendo machines just for Nintendo exclusives... it's really no better than the Wii U.

In 2018, 2019 and 2020, the only Switch games that really interest me are Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokemon Sword/Shield. That's nothing in 2018, and so far nothing in 2020.

I was really excited about the idea of them consolidating and just bringing out a hybrid machine, but personally, there's less interesting games now than ever.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

Peach64

2020 has been pretty bad, and a lot of ports of good games and DLC isn't going to change that for me. I don't care for Animal Crossing at all, and Paper Mario is now done for me a series. Two great games, and then 15 years of rubbish. There's literally been nothing for me. I'm sure people will go nuts for the Mario ports, but again, it's not exciting getting games I already own and can play quite easily.

Having said that, it's not as bad as 2016. 2020 has had nothing for me, but I struggle to see how anyone was satisfied with 2016.

Re: Talking Point: Is EA's Switch Strategy Lazy, Or Simply Common Sense?

Peach64

There's nothing lazy about it. They don't make games for PS4 and XB1 because they like those machines, but because they make money. Switch, like any Nintendo console will always have a couple of big drawbacks for 3rd parties, and that's the fanbase's tendency to not really buy 3rd party games in big numbers, but also the work involved in porting. They can create a game that runs on PS4 and XB1 with minimal changes needed, so one project can sell to a huge userbase over 150 million strong. Making something work on Switch takes a lot more work, which costs a lot more money.

Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?

Peach64

The disc-less PS5 is clearly the main design. The disc drive looks awkwardly added on.

Physical media is becoming a huge bottle neck for gaming, and that's only going to get worse as SSD takes over. I don't think there will be any disc drive options for the PS6 and 5th gen of Xbox.

Nintendo will take longer as usual, but they'll go the same way eventually.

Re: Super Mario 35th Anniversary Rumours Intensify

Peach64

I used to love the Paper Mario series, but it’s really been warped into a totally different type of game lately that I don’t enjoy anywhere near as much.

I’m all on board for the Mario re-rereleases though. Sunshine and Galaxy with comfortable controllers would be amazing, and 3D World would mean there’s really no reason to keep a Wii U about.

Re: Wonderful 101 Confirmed For Switch, But There's A Catch

Peach64

Definitely backing this. People are naive for thinking Platinum can self fund any projects, let alone one as risky as this. Game development is a long stretch where employees (of which they have over 200) need to still be paid, but you get no income until the product is shipped to retail. You can’t be independent when you’re that big. You either need a publisher or crowdfunding, and I doubt any publisher would go near W101 after its previous commercial failure.

Re: PlatinumGames Opens 'Platinum4' Website, And No One Knows What's Going On

Peach64

@Rodan2000 How would that work? Publishers funded all their previous games, so publishers get the profits from previous games. People working for Platinum get paid a salary like the rest of us. You can’t be with independent when you’re as big as Platinum. You’re saying over 200 people should go a few years without being paid so they can put out a game?

Re: Video: Nintendo's E3 Direct Went From Pedestrian To Perfection

Peach64

Was kind of standard Nintendo E3 for me. Not enough new announcements, especially if you take away ports, but thought Luigi's Mansion 3, Fire Emblem and Pokemon looked great, even if we've seen plenty from those games already. The announcement of NM3 was hardly a surprise, but still enjoyed it. At first, was not really digging the 'sequel' treatment for Breath of the Wild instead of a brand new game, but I'll definitely give it a chance, after all, Majora's Mask was kind of the same situation.

Re: Talking Point: What Does Google's Stadia Mean For Nintendo And The Future Of Gaming?

Peach64

I don’t think this will be the one, but the type of thing is the future, and I don’t know why people are so resistant to the idea. I’ve always found gamer’s attachment to hardware a little weird. You don’t see movie buffs fighting over models of blu-Ray players or streaming services. Consoles are just there to play our games.

People are also obsessed with ownership. Live in the moment. I bet 99% of people never go back and ever replay the games they make such a fuss over ‘owning’.
