@Clyde_Radcliffe It's not a best game award, it's more anticipated. So yeah, sales figures play a part in how anticipated a game is. I also mentioned review scores. Forza Horizon games are always 90+ rating on Metacritic. They are popular and always deliver a great game, so makes sense they would be highly anticipated, but people here are acting like it's a joke?

Forza Horizon is a big deal. FH4 had 12 million 'sales' before the Steam version launched. As much as Metroid is a big deal to hardcore fans, no Metroid title has ever reached 3 million in sales, and it's been 20 years since a game in the series reached 2 million sales. Not to mention the Forza Horizon series is rated higher on Metacritic than every Metroid game since Prime 2. So yeah, it's not surprising more people are anticipating FH5 compared to Metroid Dread. Once again people making themselves look stupid by saying the only way this is possible is MS paying people off.

My expectations were low due to Covid messing with the whole industry but I was still a bit disappointed. I understand Metroid Dread is going to be amazing for a lot of people, but I'm not really into 2D stuff. Seeing Advance Wars pop up, and then having it revealed to be a remaster was one of the biggest spikes of excitement to disappointment I've felt in ages. At the end of the day, they announced nothing new I'm interested in. My wish list of future Switch games is exactly the same now as it was a month ago and that is disappointing.

Pretty disappointing for me, although I knew this E3 was going to be lame due to Covid disrupting the industry. Metroid Dread was cool, although personally I have no interested in the 2D games. Seeing Advance Wars was so exciting, but then seeing it was just a remaster/remake was hugely deflating. At the end of it, there are no new games on my wishlist than there were before it.

I was so excited when Advance Wars popped up, and then it was crushed as it was revealed it was just a Remaster. How much effort would 25-30 new maps really have been?

I have no interested in 2D stuff, but was great they used the Dread name.

@marnelljm Why did they make a Switch Lite when the original was flying off the shelves? They know a huge percent of current owners will rebuy. It's easy money.

@marnelljm A lack of a Switch Pro at the Direct is not going to kill that story at all. Nintendo already said this is about software.

Don't get too excited people. Covid has really disrupted the whole gaming industry. Stuff has not progressed over the last 18 months like it should have, and it's showing from every developer out there. This is not a normal E3.

E3 events are commercials to sell you games. I don't really get people whining about being 'spoiled'.

My expectations are lower than ever thanks to Covid distrupting the whole industry. I judge these things on new announcements and I just don't see many today. Personally, I don't care about new Zelda footage. The moment they announced that game I knew I was buying it. Anything more I see of it now only serves to spoil the game.

I don't think it's happening today. I know Nintendo will lie about this stuff, but it makes sense to lie when asked about the existence of upcoming hardware revisions as that could hurt sales of the current models. They didn't need to say this Direct would be all about software. Because they said that, I don't believe we see the Switch revision today.

If they don't announce it today, I'm not sure it gets announced this week. They've said the Direct will be focused on software and I don't think they'd have bothered to say that if they intended to show off the new model. I can't see them announcing it on the same day as the direct either and splitting the attention.

It would have made sense to reveal it before E3 so devs could show us any improvements in game performance, but when does Nintendo ever do what makes sense?

I will never complain about games being announced too early. I loved the PS4 era because there was always a big game I was interested in on the way.

My expectations for E3 are lower than ever. Coved has clearly messed with the industry. Seems weird to me an industry based around computers has struggled so much with moving to WFH when my industry which involves being able to access hospitals has barely skipped a beat when it comes to switching to WFH without any sign of productivity slowing down. For whatever reason the gaming industry has been affected though, and it feels like every game is at least 12 months behind where it should be.

Thanks to COVID, even E3 is going to be slim pickings this year so when you consider Geoff just gets the scraps leftover, it wasn’t that bad.

Two Point Hospital, Jurassic World Evolution, Metal Slug and Elden Ring are probably all games I would buy, and there were some interesting indies I’ll keep an eye on.

Pre-ordered and I hate myself for it. Would genuinely have felt better spending £20 on an in-app purchase and not have to deal with plastic tat.

I am bad at games. I love them, but I'm usually bad at them, and I'm okay with that. For genres or series I enjoy, I'll crank the difficulty as it's fun for me, but usually I'll play on a lower difficulty. They are an entertainment product to me, not a competitive sport. I'd rather spend my time learning/improving at something useful.

Snowrunner is incredible. Makes Mudrunner look like a tech demo.

I was very resistant to the idea of Game Pass, but I gave it a go when I bought a Series X, £70 for two years is very easy to come by and it’s insane value with EA Play thrown in too. Played so many games I’d never have bought, and saved so much by not having to to buy many games I wanted to play. Don’t care at all about ‘ownership’ when most games, TV shows and movies are one time things for me. I can buy those rare exceptions.

I think a lot of people misunderstand what this revision is meant to be. It's not the successor to the switch, it's just a revision. Like the DS Lite or XL was to the DS, the SP or Micro were to the GBA etc. 4 years is definitely not too soon for that based on previous handhelds.

People keep focusing on the 4K rumours. I'm sure it's just outputting a 4K signal to TVs. The 360 and PS3 output 1080p signal, but it didn't mean the games were anywhere near 1080p. I don't think any revision is going to have any exclusives that can't be played on all current hardware.

I think it's pretty indefensible. There's no valid reason I've seen anyone come up with for pulling a digital game. They can choose to give other series a marketing push without removing things from sale. It's just to make more money. I bet a lot of people see games come out, think to themselves I'll get them some day, and then never do. By putting an end date on it like this, it makes all those people rush out to buy it.

I can't stand motion controls so this is a welcome and unexpected move from my point of view. I thought they'd keep the motion controls only.

I don't like the chibi art style, but that's not the reason I'm disappointed by the remake. The art style is not the issue. It's that the gameplay looks like it's two generations out of date. We've got used to Pokemon remakes being premium products, improving on the game directly before them, filled with QoL improvements, and a huge celebration of the franchise. These looks cheap, and it's not because it's chibi.

I know it's cool to hate on Pokemon recently, but this genuinely does look awful I've loved all the remakes up to now. They really felt like celebrations of the series, but wow, not sure about this at all.

This is not news. MS came out and said this at the time. The guy that put the footage up the other week had nothing to do with the game's development so not sure why anyone was posting his statement as news. He just assumed the James Bond rights holder blocked it, but all parties had agreed to the VC of the N64 game and the XBLA HD remaster. Classic example of Nintendo agreeing to something, letting someone do a load of work, and then pull out.

This game is a very different prospect to things like Banjo. No, Nintendo don't own the bond license, but they did have a contract with the rights holder to be able to publish the game. To re-release it, that contract probably had to be referred back to and would need the permission of anyone involved at the time.

I don't think any of this was previously unseen? It was everywhere at the time.

I don't think it deserves some of the criticism it gets, but at the same time, it's definitely a little disappointing. As always, reviews have no impact on sales. 99% of people just don't look at sites like this.

I generally don't care for TV shows based on games, but I would have definitely checked that one out. It always had the vibe of a cartoon like Bucky O'Hare.

I think Nintendo have shown enough they will outright lie to protect the sales of existing models until the new one is out. June 2012. Nintendo put out a statement denying a 3DS revision is in the works. 3 weeks later, they announce the 3DS XL.

This poll was never going to down well in a community than considers a box on their shelf the most important thing when buying a game.

Was just scrolling through, saw the image and thought that looks like Luke from Gilmore Girls. There's no way anything to do with Gilmore Girls would be popping up on Nintendo Life though... oh wait!

I don't really mess around with emulation, but this is very tempting.

This is the only mainline generation that I've never completed (other than the current gen). I played Gen 1, loved it, then didn't come back til Diamond and Pearl, and was a little disappointed in how little had changed in 9 years. I didn't bother trying a Pokemon game again until Sun and Moon, and since then I've gone back to play through Heart Gold, Omega Ruby, White 2 and X.

Just waiting for this Switch iteration stuff to come out before I buy a Switch to play Sword and the remake.

It was rushed, and much too big for PS4 and Xbox One, but just like Witcher 3, once it's gone through about a year of patches it will be a masterpiece.

The DS Lite was the first, and maybe last time I thought any piece of video game hardware looked good. It could just be because it came after the DS which was without a doubt the ugliest piece of gaming hardware I've ever seen.

This is just a weird branding thing, not a new studio. I'm not surprised there's people hating on EA on here, but both Fallen Order and Squadrons (especially in VR) are REALLY good games.

I just want it now. I was ready to buy a Switch for Christmas but I can't do it knowing how close an upgrade is.

It doesn't matter how similar they look, why is someone creating official material just googling for images? They should have access to official Nintendo art assets.

I don’t see it happening anyway, but Doug Bowser wouldn’t be involved in any decision. All that rests with Nintendo Japan. The Polygon interview with him is such a waste of time.

The jumping mechanic looks really off putting to me. I don't know, it's not that difficult to play Crazy Taxi today thanks to the digital releases, not sure this is really needed, but I'll keep an eye on it.

They do this every year and it's quite clever. Launch some really dumb product so they get free press as people making news stories over it. Remember the Christmas Dinner in a tin a few years back?

@Retro_Player_77 Hilarious trolling. PS3 and 360 struggling? They sold 87 and 85 million consoles each. If that's struggling then Nintendo has had a rough time in the gaming business.

And people did not buy a PS2 to watch DVDs. It has the highest software attach rate of any console ever. It sold more software than any other machine, and each PS2 owner bought more software than any other machine in history, console or handheld.

I don't like the idea of EA buying them, but Take Two are far worse for microtransactions than EA are! You can happily play FIFA without going anywhere near Ultimate Team mode. In NBA2K it's much harder to avoid them.

@Dr_Lugae But it's not meant to be based on public voting. If that was the case it's the same as just going with the game that sold the most. The Oscars don't give Best Picture to the film that sold the most tickets. They have a panel and they decide the winner. Just because it doesn't match the public opinion does not make it rigged.

I kind of wonder why they didn't get this out for the holiday. I know there's a pandemic, but it's essentially a port and they could have got it done if they wanted.

I don't think New Horizons should be anywhere near a GOTY list. We'd complain enough if people suggested COD or FIFA be on it due to it's sales figures. It's so similar to the AC game that came out 20 years ago.

I think Last of Us Part II is a fine winner. I don't think it's as good as the first game, and I personally much preferred Half-Life: Alyx, but the suggestions the awards are rigged make you look crazy. It got very high review scores, so clearly a game well thought of by the the sort of panels they pick to judge these awards. How would you suggest it's been rigged? By a few people deciding it should win? Because that's not rigged, that's how these work.

As fun as Perfect Dark was, it was a very quickly made Goldeneye reskin. I don't think they need to worry about it's legacy personally. I actually hope the rumours of it being third person stealth are true. We don't get a lot of those games, but we've got more than enough FPS already.

It's sad that so many people consider a box on their shelf more important that the game itself. I bet most of those people accuse others of enjoying graphics over gameplay too.

People just getting mad at the headline without reading the context. He's not using it as an insult, he's talking about the development of Super Monkey Ball, and part of the reason it was made was because they felt Nintendo at that time was not doing a good job of providing for their core market.

I don't see why Sony would try and stop it? It's not like people would buy a Playstation to have Kratos on Fortnite. It's just free advertising for them. Spider-Man is different as they don't own that character, they have a license to use him in games which Disney likely drove a very hard bargain over.
