Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Was Wrong To Turn Its Back On The Wii Remote

PanicPuppet

I fully agree with this article! The Wii remote was such a revolutionary controller; definitely one of my absolute favorites! I couldn't imagine playing games like Metroid Prime Trilogy, Red Steel 2, or GoldenEye Wii with a standard controller, because they're controls were executed so well and just clicked!

If you ask me the Gamepad was really a step back; I've hardly used it in any games besides Nintendo Land, and it just doesn't feel as enticing compared to pointing and aiming with the Wii remote in real time. But to be fair Star Fox Zero will probably be pretty fun with the Gamepad's setup.

Re: The Game Boy Advance is Now 15 Years Old

My first GameBoy was the SP model, and I had some of the most memorable gaming experiences with it. It introduced me to the Metroid series with Fusion, I quickly fell in love with Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, (still one of my top games of all time) and I enjoyed being able to play Super Mario World anywhere I went. Other games like Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Battle, and Gunstar Superheroes where very fun as well. I can't believe its been 15 years already... where does the time go? lol

Re: Feature: Poster Children - Your Guide to Collecting Nintendo Power's Awesome Classic Posters

PanicPuppet

Nintendo Power was always the highlight of my afternoon after a long school day. I got rid of a lot of them, but kept the ones that started shipping subscriber-exclusive covers until the final issue. I'll probably frame that "NP cover history" poster at some point; it was a very nice send-off for the subscribers.

I have some older posters lying around too, like that Prime 3 one above; I loved decorating my bedroom and gaming room with them...

NP please come back!

Re: Feature: Exciting Wii U and 3DS Games to Play in Spring and Summer 2016

I'm really looking forward to Star Fox Zero/Project Guard and Federation Force. I'm likely going to upgrade my original 3DS to a N3DSXL for the occasion, as my old one's showing a lot of wear-and-tear now.

This Direct was very good, and got me excited about gaming again; I've been going through a bit of a rough patch for a while, but seeing Bill Trinen and friends talk about upcoming games just really lifted my spirits.

Re: Feature: Why We're Still Playing... Metroid Fusion

PanicPuppet

Fusion both introduced me to the series and made me a fan back when it came out! Not one of my top-favorite Metroids, but its a fantastic one to start out with!

I'm in the camp that I prefer knowing where to go next; I don't find it very enjoyable to aimlessly wander around the humongous areas to find my way. Plus its not like it takes away the exploration aspect either. You still discover hidden items, rooms, power-ups, etc.

Re: Video: Reggie Fils-Aime Busts Some Moves and Dances in Latest Yo-Kai Watch Commercial

@Vriess I can relate.

Wii U and 3DS just haven't had an appeal to me lately. I've had a both since since 2012 or so, and I've only bought 5 Wii U games; 3DS only 4. I've been more into getting games from Wii and GC's libraries that I missed out on, or needed to rebuy due to a younger-self stupidly trading them in.

But yeah, Nintendo needs to get back on track with everything. Stop relying on the same handful of IPs constantly, (Mario, Zelda, Pokémon) and really try to appeal to the older crowd with more than just nostalgia.

Re: Review: Yo-Kai Watch (3DS)

I never got into the Pokemon craze. (I prefer Digimon) After playing the game's demo, this looks and feels like a fun and creative title. It really drew me in with the unique combat system and very adorable designs for the Yokai. I'm seriously considering to pick this up!

Re: Feature: Why We're Still Playing... Super Metroid

PanicPuppet

I never got into Super; this coming from a huge Metroid fanatic. It was the last entry I got to playing 7 or so years ago on VC. By then I'd already played the Prime games and the GBA ones. I appreciate the bar it set for the series, but if you ask me better things have been done with Metroid since its release. Prime 3 is still my personal favorite!

Re: Review: Disney Infinity 3.0 (Wii U)

PanicPuppet

@vincentgoodwin Thanks for the tips! I may start playing 3.0 when it goes down that low then!

@TheEAB Yeah, my mistake. I checked on Amazon and saw that the OT play set is just an add-on. I though both it and the Clone Wars were legit separate starter sets. I'd really freak if it was $140 for both!

Re: Review: Disney Infinity 3.0 (Wii U)

I've considered diving into DI with 3.0 (mainly due to being a SW nut) but it just seems like a huge investment. I think it was a bit underhanded to separate the OT and Clone Wars stories to their own packs. Why not have them together? Why do I have to shell out $140 to have both? There are fans out there who like both eras, contrary to popular belief.
