It wasn't long ago that Jakks Pacific's Scott Neitlich appeared to spill on plans for the 'World of Nintendo' toy range to be adding Splatoon goodies in the future. In the short video he spoke of how the World of Nintendo was about more than 'just Mario and Zelda', also mentioning Metroid as a series with more to come (there's already a Samus figure in the range).
That commitment to the Nintendo toy range has been reaffirmed in the company's financial results press release. Following its reports on net sales of $745.7 million for 2015 (which is down on 2014), Chairman and CEO Stephen Berman emphasized key ranges that will expand and drive sales in 2016, with the Nintendo brand getting a name-drop.
Our alliance with strategic licensing partners has provided us with a strong entertainment-licensed slate for 2016 including Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, Captain America: Civil War, and Finding Dory. To support these terrific franchises, we are creating BIG-FIGS in a variety of scales ranging from 18-inch to 48-inch, radio controlled vehicles, and Seasonal products inspired by these movies. We will continue to ship new waves of Star Wars BIG-FIGS throughout 2016, as well as bring the World of Nintendo characters to life in new and exciting ways.
It's been Nintendo's strategy for around two years now to aggressively expand its licensing and IP brand growth, which includes merchandising through partners. We've already seen Mario Kart 8 toys joining the wide range of Jakks Pacific figures, so the likes of Splatoon will be welcome additions. As for what other franchises and toys could arrive in 2016, that's anyone's guess - cute little Metroid Prime: Federation Force soldiers, perhaps? Oh alright, there'll be better ideas than that.
What series or game do you want to see featured in the World of Nintendo toy range?

Some of these can be really nice collectibles to have for the Nintendo fan like me.
They're mostly low quality imo. Amiibo is waaay better especially now that most of them are heavily discounted.
@Splatburst I have all of the Smash Bros series Amiibo So I can definately see what you mean by that. They're amazing quality, and also work with games as a bonus. As a collector of all things Nintendo, it was just an added bonus to having figures of all of my favorite characters.
I wonder why Nintendo won't strike a deal to get some Funko Pops. Like it or not, those things are everywhere. It would seem to be a great way to expose your characters to people.
The blue Toad figure is very cute...I have him and really like it. The giant Mario and link are great too
@PowerStar I hope they don't partner with funko pop, because they'll make a variant of each character which is gonna be impossible to find, just look at the Star wars funko pop figures, there are like 5 variants of luke skywalker, 3 of boba fett etc etc..
I've bought a bunch of these toys. . They are lower quality than amiibo but a lot of fun to play with my kids. I'd love fire emblem figures, but I don't think that will happen.
JP's toys are a decent mass market option that SHOULD have happened at least a decade ago. These days, I'm more on the lookout for higher end toylines (Figuarts, Figma, even Nendoroid for the right character).
JP's stuff isn't bad, but I found my Bowser... unsatisfying. I picked him up in a fit of outrage over the apparent scale of Figuarts' version. Between the lacking paintjob, questionable molding, and limited articulation, it re-excited me over the Figuarts again.
In order for there to be a demand for this merchandise there has to be an established and an in demand product that the merchandise springs from.
While the Nintendo brand is long established I would suggest that the demand for individual characters is not as good as it could be.
Pokemon's popularity comes and go's and that would be the strongest of the Nintendo characters, because it will reach a bigger market via Smartphones.
Nintendo games are what will sell the merchandise and right now Mario their main mascots last outing of any note was Mario Kart 8.
Nintendo need to make and sell more games before looking to far into other directions.
I own the Link figure that I managed to find in a Target and while it is not top quality, it isn't horrible either. He resides on the top of my desk with a few other collectables I have.
The issue I have seen is that these things are near impossible to find, and that is from someone that travels a good bit between larger cities.
Not commenting on the toys here, but as a toy fan and collector of the Masters of the Universe Classics line from Mattel, I can tell you that Scott "Toyguru" Neitlich is a passionate and enthusiastic guy and you're lucky to have him working on something you collect. Sure there were ups and downs wit MOTUC while he was there, but he helped deliver some amazing products. Hopefully World of Nintendo will thrive under his direction.
I for one would love chibi Federation soldiers! Make it happen, Nintendo!
I've bought a few of their toys. An Olimar, Wind Waker Ganondorf (didn't get his amiibo 'cause I don't like TP's design ), and most recently a 6 inch giant shy guy that came with a propeller accessory to turn him into a fly guy. I think they're not too bad for the price; the Ganondorf one especially looks good.
As for other figures I'd want... Kirby. Not nearly enough Kirby stuff available in the US. Had to import what little I have from Japan... yes, I am that big of a Kirby fan.
More Pikmin figures would also be welcome.
@Darkthany I'd go nuts for figures of the characters from Awakening, not just the main ones like Chrom, Robin, and Lucina, but also ones like Frederick, Lissa, Maribelle, Virion, Tharja, etc.
I'd like to see an Inkling figure that can transform between a squid and a kid. xD
The idea of Splatoon figures is very exciting to me! But I've seen the other figures in this range in a local toy shop and they're straight up awful. They're designed to be kids toys not collectables.
Now a Splatoon Figma or Nendoroid? I would throw money at that! Oh now I want a Splatoon Nedoroid set! Aaaaaarrrgh!
@Darknyht I know what you mean. I haven't been able to find the 6-inch Metroid anywhere, and people online scalp them for 50-60 bucks. They MSRP is 16!
I mostly only collect the Japanese imports but I do grab a WoN figure here and there if I don't think Figma or Figuarts will make it. Like Donkey Kong and the Metroid. With that in mind, I'd like to see Jakks put out the Koopalings.
These are nice as there are some strange ones that I pick up for my kids whenever I see them in Target for a few $. I'm not even sure what some of them are, but the weirder the better.
I'd like to see JP make a detailed figure.
Maybe if they made them more available in stores and online that would be a good first step. I've been trying to get the Metroid figure for soooooo long and I've never seen it in person once. A $15 figure goes for $45+ online, sounds like a familiar situation we had to deal with.... Oh hai amiibo.
I'm hoping they manage to get all the different colored Yoshis out in figure form! Goldie/Popco was making good progress on that but then they went out of business before they got to release my favorite Yoshi colors.
WoN is a fantastic line for Nintendo fans! I currently only have Samus, but I'm on the lookout for the giant Metroid, 4in Waluigi, and Bowser Jr. figures. If you're able to track the ones your hunting for its a great feeling; especially if you don't want to spend over $60+shipping on the imported collectables.
