Re: Soapbox: Nobody Does 'More Of The Same' Better Than Nintendo

Pak-Man

Honestly, I feel like Nintendo is more scared of being stuck in a rut than any other company. You'll get one sequel- max- of "More of the same" and then they change it up again and almost never look back. Want a Paper Mario game that plays like Thousand Year Door? Sorry. Nintendo don't do that anymore, even though everyone wants them to and it would probably be a best-seller. But they're more focused on going somewhere new than they are on rebottling old lightning, and it's served them well, for the most part.

Re: The 3DS And Wii U eShops Have Closed, Purchases "No Longer Possible"

Pak-Man

I've been spending the last year scooping up anything that might ever be interesting to me and I think I'm ready. It sucks, though, that many of these games won't be available to anyone in any way. Some of them will get ported, but some of them only work on the 3DS's unique features, and those will be lost to time.

My days of PLAYING 3DS, though, are far from over. I have a huge backlog of games still to play, and it's still just the best system there is for plane rides and bus trips. As an overall system, it had probably the most robust variety of RPGs and Strategy Games, and other genres that take hours to play. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Re: Soapbox: Switch Is Great, But The GBA SP Was The Pinnacle Of Public Transport Gaming

I went out of my way to obtain (and occasionally replace) the New 3DS (Which really should have been the New 3DS Lite, since it's the rarer version, but Nintendo was really determined to make the name on this one as confusing as possible) because the XL is too darned L. It remains my happy medium. Lots of great downloaded games, and a solid library to take with me, and SO many RPGs and strategy games to make those 2 hour bus rides fly by. Fits comfortably in my pocket (I may have selected pants specifically to accommodate it) and back in the day it got me tags when the bus would pass by a McDonalds.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The February 2023 Nintendo Direct

Pak-Man

Honestly, with Zelda and Metroid on the way, and Fire Emblem still in my Switch's cartridge slot, I don't even know what I'm hoping for. More info would be cool, of course, but for games I don't know about, most of my wishes are recently fulfilled, or will be soon. It's kind of exciting. I'm ready to be legit surprised.

Re: Talking Point: So, When Will Nintendo Announce Its Next Console?

Pak-Man

I'm noticing that the whole generational leap thing isn't what it used to be. The new Xbox and Playstation are still just really nice Xbox Ones and PS4s. I wonder if something like the "New 3DS" isn't the way to go with Switch. (But for the love of God, don't call it the "New Switch." Have you ever tried searching for New 3DSs on eBay!?)

Just release the Super Switch, or whatever, give it full backwards compatability, but enough processing power to let it enhance games when you use it. Old timers should think of the Gameboy Color. It was still a Gameboy, but now it made all your old games in color, and had a few games that would only work on the new hardware. No need to pull the old Gameboy stock off the shelves because it was all still relevant, but everyone WANTED the Gameboy Color.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2023

Pak-Man

I will scoop up Wildermyth on day one when it finally comes out. The only reason I don't play it more is because it's hard for me to clear enough PC time to really dig in. That's less of a problem on the Switch.

I'll add Rimworld to the list. It got released for everything else, but it BELONGS on Switch, and doesn't seem like it's too demanding or anything.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Deal With The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Switch Release?

Pak-Man

The first thing that hit my brain when they announced these remasters- and I'm SURE I wasn't alone- was "I need a physical Switch release for this!" If they just released physically in normal quantities LIKE THEY ALWAYS DO, they'd sell a kazillion of them. (As evidenced by the fact that they were all gone a few minutes later.) Why would they do this to us, sure, but why would they do this to themselves?
