I went out of my way to obtain (and occasionally replace) the New 3DS (Which really should have been the New 3DS Lite, since it's the rarer version, but Nintendo was really determined to make the name on this one as confusing as possible) because the XL is too darned L. It remains my happy medium. Lots of great downloaded games, and a solid library to take with me, and SO many RPGs and strategy games to make those 2 hour bus rides fly by. Fits comfortably in my pocket (I may have selected pants specifically to accommodate it) and back in the day it got me tags when the bus would pass by a McDonalds.
Yeah, as one of the old fogies who was THERE back in the text adventure days, I can't resist its call, and will probably be willing to overlook a lot. They tried to update it for a modern audience, but the original audience is still kicking and might enjoy it. (OK. I wasn't quite alive in '76, but I cut my teeth on text adventures at a very early age.)
I'm dubious about how well the Switch touch screen will work with the mapping feature. The nice thing about the DS was the precision. But if it works, I'm willing to double-dip (Triple-dip if you count the Untold versions!).
Some short phrases I like that I did not expect to hear today, or ever again, really: Ghost Trick. Samba De Amigo. Fantasy Life. We ❤️ Katamari. Etrian Odyssey. Professor Layton.
I paid $70 for Zelda in the '90s, and I'll pay $70 for Zelda again! Like any rational consumer, I wouldn't LIKE it, but prices go up. It's what they do. It's kind of amazing they ever went down from the N64 cost.
Honestly, with Zelda and Metroid on the way, and Fire Emblem still in my Switch's cartridge slot, I don't even know what I'm hoping for. More info would be cool, of course, but for games I don't know about, most of my wishes are recently fulfilled, or will be soon. It's kind of exciting. I'm ready to be legit surprised.
Colossal Cave is the Point and Click remake of the original text adventure game. It's being made by King's Quest creator, Roberta Williams. If you run in classic adventure gaming circles, these words get you very excited.
I'm not as invested in the story as I was in Three Houses, but the actual nitty-gritty of the game itself is SO much better. Fire Emblem can be so many things, it's hard to give it a score when you compare one entry to its predecessors.
I always bristle at how people use the term "Kid's Game." Like- Barney's Hide and Seek for the Genesis was a Kid's Game. Kirby and many other Nintendo games are "Everyone's Game."
I'm noticing that the whole generational leap thing isn't what it used to be. The new Xbox and Playstation are still just really nice Xbox Ones and PS4s. I wonder if something like the "New 3DS" isn't the way to go with Switch. (But for the love of God, don't call it the "New Switch." Have you ever tried searching for New 3DSs on eBay!?)
Just release the Super Switch, or whatever, give it full backwards compatability, but enough processing power to let it enhance games when you use it. Old timers should think of the Gameboy Color. It was still a Gameboy, but now it made all your old games in color, and had a few games that would only work on the new hardware. No need to pull the old Gameboy stock off the shelves because it was all still relevant, but everyone WANTED the Gameboy Color.
The state I live in is very sparsely populated, so my only hope for getting tagged was to pop into a McDonalds or other 3DS Streetpass Zone. That or going to a convention. I did manage to complete every puzzle, so I'm super-proud of that.
I will scoop up Wildermyth on day one when it finally comes out. The only reason I don't play it more is because it's hard for me to clear enough PC time to really dig in. That's less of a problem on the Switch.
I'll add Rimworld to the list. It got released for everything else, but it BELONGS on Switch, and doesn't seem like it's too demanding or anything.
UPDATE: I posted months ago that I hoped it would come to the US after I'd had a chance to accumulate some points, and I did indeed have a chance to accumulate some points! They are all mine! (Also snagged a calendar. I love having these Nintendo calendars by my work computer every year!
The first thing that hit my brain when they announced these remasters- and I'm SURE I wasn't alone- was "I need a physical Switch release for this!" If they just released physically in normal quantities LIKE THEY ALWAYS DO, they'd sell a kazillion of them. (As evidenced by the fact that they were all gone a few minutes later.) Why would they do this to us, sure, but why would they do this to themselves?
The price is a bit steep, but Squenix could have just as easily released them on individual cartridges for $30 each and it wouldn't be the WORST deal. It's not like you'll be done with the series in a week or two.
Two eyes but with a dollop of sunscreen at the top of his nose that video games of the day didn't have the fidelity to portray, which has been misinterpreted in other media.
Fire Emblem fans have become accustomed to Day 1 DLC, for better or worse. I'm getting the Divine Edition, so you'd better believe I'll be getting the DLC pack. I want every ounce of available Fire Emblem.
Also, that FE1 remix at the end of the Japanese trailer is awesome.
I had some good times with that game. It never demanded much of my real-life money, it was fun to play, the multiplayer was solid, and the story was exceptionally well-written. There was a perpetually optimistic tone to everything, and the messages underneath were often empowering and encouraging.
I tapered off when I found it was taking too much time away from other games but checked back in when I found out it was closing so I could check out the end of the story. Glad I could get that closure.
I will say that the remaster of Wind Waker is the best version that will ever be able to be played. They can make it look prettier on Switch, but they can't give me a world map in the palm of my hand that I can access without having to pause.
I have been a customer service representative, and let me tell you, they need this stuff. Being yelled at and berated and threatened and insulted all day long, 5 days a week, takes a toll. And when the companies say, "Well they get to do that. Do your best to make them happy, but you can't give them what they want" it takes an even larger toll. I'm glad that Nintendo is giving employees an out from being abused all day long.
I was prepared to have to get used to Pratt as Mario, but I really didn't mind. It seems right, even though it's different.
And Jack Black was actually a really good Bowser. Like I forgot it was him and not just "Bowser" (Who never has much dialogue in the games anyway unless it's an RPG or Sports game) until partway through the trailer..
It's promising that Nintendo is taking ownership of this movie and not just giving it to Illumination and saying, "Do your thing. We disavow any connection with this movie."
I decided to make good on my previous post and booted up the game to finish the last 8 chapters. Took a while, and I had to upgrade a bunch of stuff to take on the last few bosses, but it was worth the journey and I'm glad I have closure. It was always the writing that drove me to this game. There's an optimism underneath it all that you don't see often. Felt good to close the book.
I've never understood why Konami, which has a history of good relations with Nintendo seems to never want one of their biggest Castlevania games (A franchise which ALSO has a good history with Nintendo!) to come to a Nintendo system.
I liked Paper Mario: Sticker Star. I know it's no Thousand-Year Door, but it's a lot of fun if you just accept it for what it is. Really all the Paper Mario games are pretty good if you don't hold them up to Thousand-Year Door.
