Re: PSA: Dragalia Lost Has Ended Its Service As Planned

Pak-Man

I had some good times with that game. It never demanded much of my real-life money, it was fun to play, the multiplayer was solid, and the story was exceptionally well-written. There was a perpetually optimistic tone to everything, and the messages underneath were often empowering and encouraging.

I tapered off when I found it was taking too much time away from other games but checked back in when I found out it was closing so I could check out the end of the story. Glad I could get that closure.

Re: Nintendo Updates Repair Regulations To Protect Staff From Customer Harassment

Pak-Man

I have been a customer service representative, and let me tell you, they need this stuff. Being yelled at and berated and threatened and insulted all day long, 5 days a week, takes a toll. And when the companies say, "Well they get to do that. Do your best to make them happy, but you can't give them what they want" it takes an even larger toll. I'm glad that Nintendo is giving employees an out from being abused all day long.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Mario's Movie Voice?

Pak-Man

I was prepared to have to get used to Pratt as Mario, but I really didn't mind. It seems right, even though it's different.

And Jack Black was actually a really good Bowser. Like I forgot it was him and not just "Bowser" (Who never has much dialogue in the games anyway unless it's an RPG or Sports game) until partway through the trailer..

Re: Nintendo Shares "Thank You" Message And End Credits For Dragalia Lost

Pak-Man

I decided to make good on my previous post and booted up the game to finish the last 8 chapters. Took a while, and I had to upgrade a bunch of stuff to take on the last few bosses, but it was worth the journey and I'm glad I have closure. It was always the writing that drove me to this game. There's an optimism underneath it all that you don't see often. Felt good to close the book.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should You Play First?

Pak-Man

So starting with the start makes sense, but if you've made it this far without playing the original, chances are you're not ready for the full thrown-in-the-deep-end Zelda experience. You could go with the most recent, but it's hard to appreciate it without being grounded in Zelda's history.

Link to the Past, though, is timeless. Accessible even to today's picky audiences, and a solid representation of what to expect when you're Zelda-ing.

Re: Back Page: 8 Completely Real 'Life Simulators' That We Want To See On Switch

Pak-Man

I laugh, but I'm part of the reason these games keep coming out. I can't get enough of House Flipper, PC Building Simulator, Train Station Renovation, and their ilk. I wish I could explain it. These games sounded ridiculous to me, too. But then you get one as part of a games bundle, you try it out, and before you know it you've spent a full month virtually restoring run-down old houses so you can turn them over for a profit.

Re: Review: Return To Monkey Island - An Impeccable Encore For An Adventure Gaming Icon

Pak-Man

There are MI fans that have seen the art and imagined the game that must result from that art, and decided not to take the return. My heart aches for those fans because they're missing out on the true-blue, perfectly-in-spirit, wonderful, challenging, brilliantly puzzling game they've been longing for for 20 years. They think they're making a stand for what they think is an affront to the series, but they're only hurting themselves.

Re: Soapbox: Endless Zelda Remakes Are A Poor Substitute For Backwards Compatibility

Pak-Man

The thing about backward compatibility, in the unique case of Nintendo, is it locks down design. In order for Wii to be backwards compatible with GameCube, you needed a set of GameCube controller ports. In order to make Wii compatible with Wii U, it needed Wiimotes. If they were going to continue backwards compatibility on Switch, we'd need a Wiimote, a second screen controller and a disk drive. AND all those things would have to interface somehow with the Switch Lite, if you wanted THAT to be backwards compatible.

In order for Nintendo to move forward the way Nintendo moves forward, they have to leave the past behind.
