Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should You Play First?

Pak-Man

So starting with the start makes sense, but if you've made it this far without playing the original, chances are you're not ready for the full thrown-in-the-deep-end Zelda experience. You could go with the most recent, but it's hard to appreciate it without being grounded in Zelda's history.

Link to the Past, though, is timeless. Accessible even to today's picky audiences, and a solid representation of what to expect when you're Zelda-ing.

Re: Back Page: 8 Completely Real 'Life Simulators' That We Want To See On Switch

I laugh, but I'm part of the reason these games keep coming out. I can't get enough of House Flipper, PC Building Simulator, Train Station Renovation, and their ilk. I wish I could explain it. These games sounded ridiculous to me, too. But then you get one as part of a games bundle, you try it out, and before you know it you've spent a full month virtually restoring run-down old houses so you can turn them over for a profit.

Re: Review: Return To Monkey Island - An Impeccable Encore For An Adventure Gaming Icon

There are MI fans that have seen the art and imagined the game that must result from that art, and decided not to take the return. My heart aches for those fans because they're missing out on the true-blue, perfectly-in-spirit, wonderful, challenging, brilliantly puzzling game they've been longing for for 20 years. They think they're making a stand for what they think is an affront to the series, but they're only hurting themselves.

Re: Soapbox: Endless Zelda Remakes Are A Poor Substitute For Backwards Compatibility

Pak-Man

The thing about backward compatibility, in the unique case of Nintendo, is it locks down design. In order for Wii to be backwards compatible with GameCube, you needed a set of GameCube controller ports. In order to make Wii compatible with Wii U, it needed Wiimotes. If they were going to continue backwards compatibility on Switch, we'd need a Wiimote, a second screen controller and a disk drive. AND all those things would have to interface somehow with the Switch Lite, if you wanted THAT to be backwards compatible.

In order for Nintendo to move forward the way Nintendo moves forward, they have to leave the past behind.

Re: Talking Point: How Were You Introduced To Metroid?

Pak-Man

Captain N: The Game Master! My parents would rent me a different game every weekend, and I made it a point to play everything that showed up on Captain N. (And that show had some great taste in video games. It rarely steered me wrong.) Since the big-bad of the series was Mother Brain, I eventually tried out Metroid. Been a fan ever since!

Note: You can go straight to Nintendo's website, search for the game, buy it there with your credit card or paypal, and it will automagically show up on your linked 3DS. It's the best way to buy 3DS games in this post-points world. (Unfortunately, does not work for WiiU.)
