Re: Celeste Fans May Want To Check Out This Adorable New Platformer On Switch

Ogbert

@shiftbarackyeaugh Oh that was an in-joke from Reddit?

Celeste is obviously not and 'underrated hidden gem', I get that's the joke. But I will say I have a lot of gamer friends who either don't have or barely use their Switch and stick more to PC and either Xbox or PS5 and they often don't know anything about the indie scene.

One of my friends was recently praising GamePass because without it he "never would have known about a bunch of the little indie games on it like Hollow Knight and Cocoon". Which is an insane thing to say to anyone who is remotely paying attention to the indie scene. So I guess from some perspectives it is a hidden gem?

Re: Sumo Group Confirms "Impact" On Workforce As It Pivots To Develop Exclusively For Partners

Ogbert

@PikaPhantom there will be non-compete clauses in the contracts though. Otherwise Sumo are being paid by Sega to make a game whilst making a direct rival to it internally. Which doesn’t give a huge incentive to make Sonic Racing the best one, it gives and incentive to make it good and use the knowledge of it to make your own better. Not necessarily a thing they would do, but that’s the logic of these clauses, because there are some that absolutely would.

Re: Level-5's Long-Awaited Fantasy Life Sequel Seems To No Longer Be A Switch Exclusive

Ogbert

@Pat_trick Not trying to supress information, just saying people have a right to express why they would like if it that app was not linked too/embedded in the future.

Also I'm not on those other things. I do have Instagram though, but I'm currently trying to find an alternative so I can keep following the artists I love. It's a process.

I'm afraid you are the one supressing freedom of speech right now though, or trying too it seems. I've not said anything about silencing this man. But freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence or responsibility. And as a consequence of his actions and the things he's said I don't want to support his products as much as possible, including asking sites I do wish to support to try and reduce their usage and in turn support of his products. I've every right to provide that feedback, you've every right to question it, I've every right to explain why and NL has every right to choose if they want to take it on board or not. If NL take it on board they're not caving they're making their own decision based on feedback. Feedback is important and the aim from me at least is to be constructive in it. If they don't do it that's fine I will try and find somewhere else who does. It's no skin off my nose but NL will at least have some idea as to why some people are leaving. It's much harsher to just leave and not say anything. And I'm not telling you to stop, nor anyone else. You are the one telling people to stop.

If anything I requested you go outside and do more talking by repeating his....let's call it a gesture to be more neutral. At least we both agree the man is terrible. On that we are united, which is good because division is what gives people like that power.

Re: Level-5's Long-Awaited Fantasy Life Sequel Seems To No Longer Be A Switch Exclusive

Ogbert

@Pat_trick Please, do go outside and do the same salute in a crowded area if you think it's ok then.

Besides, even if not that salute, it's not exactly the only reason to not support this man.

@Not_Soos hey I didn't use that word! But spreading confusion, false information, misdirection etc, it's been a massive political tactic of late. By both parties let's be fair. It's all a mess. Good cover though innit?

Re: Level-5's Long-Awaited Fantasy Life Sequel Seems To No Longer Be A Switch Exclusive

Ogbert

@Princess_Lilly Ultimately up to you. You're right, people don't stick to them, but the McDonalds and Starbucks ones did last a while and did hit them where they hurt (their bank account) and did get them to change some things. Personally, these companies are so big and so powerful anything that sends a message like that, even for a bit, I think is worth doing. It's not going to work for all of them, but when it does, that's a result, even if small. And hopefully if they're hit like this enough, they'll be more cautious in future about doing shady things.

But I do get your point and it is valid.

Re: Level-5's Long-Awaited Fantasy Life Sequel Seems To No Longer Be A Switch Exclusive

Ogbert

@Pat_trick @JokerCK What if X is owned by someone who openly did a salute that is heavily associated with a certain far-right party originating in Germany that rose to power in the 1920s and started a global scale conflict?

I think it's fair that people are asking to refrain from linking to that site and thereby supporting and promoting it as a place to gain information, which in turn again, supports and promotes it's current owner, which again supports and promotes his political views and continues to strengthen his power and influence and wealth and ability to push said views.

Re: Review: Tails Of Iron 2: Whiskers Of Winter (Switch) - A Brutal Sequel That Just About Squeaks By

Ogbert

Not played The Witcher so never noticed that it sounds like Geralt so that's not really a minus for me. Actually feels like a really weird thing to add as a con given it's based on an assumption that everyone has played a completely unconnected game.

Playing the first at the moment and there's a fair bit of backtracking too. I don't super mind it, most areas aren't anywhere near as big as the map makes it look, but it could have been alleviated in the sequel. But then I also maybe think that's partly the point, it's not and easy road for these rats, it's long and arduous and the enemies are tough and unforgiving. The first game embodies that well and it sounds like the sequel is essentially more of that so sounds pretty good to me!

Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Caution, Unpopular Opinions, Easy Games - Nintendo Life Letters

Ogbert

@batmanbud2 as someone who was commuting every day at that time, StreetPass was the best feature! Sure it was only really the Mii games that used it, but there was a whole bunch of them and they were great mini games each day.

Also the WiiU screen was used by a bunch more than that, Pikmin 3, ZombiiU and The Wonderful 101 are a few that immediately spring to mind. I also just really liked using it for the map. Gliding about in Arkham and not having to pause to bring up the map but just glance down at the pad to check I was going in the right direction or see what was nearby. That was a small but fairly impactful upgrade to those games for me. The best use was being able to take a game off the TV though, which is the Switch's whole thing now.

Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Caution, Unpopular Opinions, Easy Games - Nintendo Life Letters

Ogbert

I find it weird that full price ports is considered shady business practice. A great game is still a great game and there’s still a bunch of work that goes into porting them. If you don’t think it’s worth that then wait or go without.

I actually really respect Nintendo for holding it’s prices. They know the value of the work and their games sell in spite of the higher price so why would they? On the flip side you have Ubisoft who are not so known for halving the price of all their releases a month or two after release that they’ve essentially trained their fan base to wait. And then to make up for that everything is full of micro transactions and DLC packs and has to be a big established IP.

I guess it only goes back so far though and people’s lines vary. I’d think you were mad for asking full price for a NES - N64 game but probably wouldn’t question a GameCube title.

Re: Balatro Dev Urges Fans To Buy More Indie Games As Title Hits 5 Million Units Sold

Ogbert

People saying they don’t like indie games? What does that even mean? You’d like them if the exact same game was made by a large developer?

It’s not a genre, it’s not a quality level, it’s not a content size, it’s not a visual style, it’s not a narrative, it’s not a gameplay mechanic it’s simply who made the game.

Expand your horizons, try new things. And just because you didn’t like indie game A doesn’t mean you won’t like indie game B made by completely different people. Heck you could not like indie game A, B or C but unless they’re direct sequels or the same developer that means nothing towards indie game D! Just like with non-indie games.

You wouldn’t say “I played Call of Duty and didn’t like it so I’m not going to bother with Zelda: Tears if the Kingdom. I’m just not a fan of AAA games”. Because that’s a complete nonsense thing to say. Same applies to indie games.

Re: Video: We've Spotted Some Secrets In The Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer

Ogbert

@john_lennon999 to be fair, I think you are in an extreme minority with that need. Most people won’t hit the default space limit and most of who do will delete old games to make space or just upgrade to a bigger card.

Also what games do you have that require that many cards? I have 300+ games on my 1tb card and it’s not full yet.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Donkey Kong's Redesign In Mario Kart 9?

Ogbert

I love DK's games but never really liked the DK design and definitely never picked him in MK. But this changes things for me, I absolutely love this design and I'm questioning my loyalty to Koopa in MK9 already!

I want to see the whole DK crew rendered like this. Even Candy and Lanky who before this I'd have asked to never have to see again.

Re: Nintendo's Share Price Dips Following Its Big Switch 2 Reveal

Ogbert

@Diowine I don't think the Mario Kart looked last gen, but I seem to be in the minority. I don't expect Switch 2 to be a handheld PS5 Pro, I don't know why people talk about it being "already generations behind", it's a handheld! Unless you want it priced up there with the high-end Steamdecks, it's not going to be on a par with the current gen home consoles. It just can't be.

And they're not going to say "and the drift issue is solved!" because that acknowledges and reminds you that there was an issue with the previous console. Marketing 101: don't remind people of previous bad experiences with you.

As for them just showing the leaked stuff? Yeah but it's not their fault that others leaked all that. It was clearly a cut from a larger planned reveal that wasn't ready yet, rushed out because of the leaks.

I don't know where the expected March release date came from? But can we really criticise them for people believing a random rumour that turned out not to be true? Doesn't seem like that one's on them. You believed a lie from someone else.

The controller connectors, I dunno. I'd like to think they have stress tested the poop outta these and they do look designed to funnel the joy cons in properly and not allow twist in the wrong angles but time will tell. I'm not going to criticise them based on an assumption of something I've no experience with yet. It looks to me not unlike the connectors that used to be in cartridges for the Megadrive/Genesis and N64, and they were fine with most kid's using them.

Yeah the whole thing was a bit flat, but ultimately that's because their hand was forced by leakers and impatient and frankly entitled gamers kicking up a fuss. And any additional disappointment from rumours not being true is on the individual for believing them, not Nintendo.

Re: Random: Switch 2 Leakers Called Out By Industry Veteran Hideki Kamiya

Ogbert

I mean, I don't think they deserve poop for the rest of their lives. But he's spot on with why they do all this and they don't ever think about the consequences for everyone else involved and how they can actually hurt people just for a few mins of notoriety. And people saying Nintendo deserved it because they "took too long" are just being a different kind of selfish and entitled.

Re: Feature: Everything You Missed In The Switch 2 Mario Kart Reveal - Characters, Features, Easter Eggs

Ogbert

Firstly, that font is an amazing call back and spot! Only thing here I hadn’t noticed!

Secondly, DK’s new design is perfection. I will be sad if this isn’t him in everything going forward now!

Thirdly, current gen? It’s looking like DK has full fur rendering! This looks way smoother and higher poly count to me. It’s a highly stylised game so it can be hard to judge but to me it looks like a clear upgrade. Plus we’re maybe looking at 24 karts, MK8 would not look as good as it does with that many racers. The big open shot at the end is probably also a showing off the graphical upgrade, they can have environments like that now!

I hope it’s not open world though. I want those well designed, tight tracks MK is so good for. I am surprised it still seems to be just Mario though. With so many guest characters in 8 I assumed 9 would be a straight up Nintendo-Kart out of the gate.

Re: Nintendo Is "Very Upset" About The Switch 2 Leaks, It's Claimed

Ogbert

Some weird and frankly entitled takes here.

Nintendo isn't upset that fans are curious and digging about, they're happy about that, they want that, it's called hype, they actively build it themselves.

They're disappointed and upset that trusted 3rd party partners who were given confidential information in order to allow them to make their own products... broke confidentiality. And that has now messed up the aforementioned hype and momentum Nintendo was building. Marketing campaigns are expensive and for something like this, mystery and suspense are a huge part of it.

Re: Nintendo Breaks Silence On 'Switch 2' Image And Video Leaks

Ogbert

Nintendo are sticking to their original launch/announcement/reveal because these things are crazy expensive and complicated to organise. Marketing is a real skill and a lot of hard work and costly. They're not going to throw all that away because of some 3rd party rumours.

Re: So, Have You Pre-Ordered Donkey Kong Country Returns HD For Switch?

Ogbert

Played it and loved it on Wii but don't need to play it again, not with my backlog.
Only reason I would get it would be for the extra levels they added in the 3DS port. If they'd sold me them on the Wii as DLC I would have bought them at the time but I'm not paying full price again for a tiny bit more, really hate it when Nintendo does that.

Re: Genki Claims The 'Switch 2' Joy-Con Can Be Removed By 'Brute Force'

Ogbert

I remember a friend complaining the current Joy-Cons were too hard to get off and that they kept breaking when doing so. Then I watched in horror as he proceeded to just pull the things straight off the rail, he didn't slide them, he didn't press the release button, he just ripped them straight off like tearing a chunk of bread. It's honestly a miracle they didn't break everytime.

So yeah people are going to do that with these too.

Also, yes I showed him how to do them properly and he never broke a pair that way again.

Re: The Pokémon Company Has Dubbed 2025 "The Year Of Eevee"

Ogbert

Now. Surely they know that announcing the 'Year of Eevee' in any context and not having that result in an official new eeveelution is just setting everyone up for disappointment? And surely they don't want that.

C'mon Game Freak/TPC/Creatures/Nintendo, don't let us down now!

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link

Ogbert

I don't much like either but I do like that they are trying to continue the theme of the first box art for EU/NA with the sword following on from the shield.

Japan one doesn't look great, Link looks like he's struggling to lift that giant shield and the world behind is sparse and empty.
