@WiltonRoots ok but I’m telling you it’s scheduled for Summer, that is a few months away, you don’t just turn around a whole new art style in a couple of months. You also don’t reveal and demo a game with a completely different art style just months before release, these things take a lot of time and work to make and implement.
The more I think about it the more I think this would have been much better as part of a new Mii Sports game. I want to give it a go, but it doesn’t look like a huge amount of content so far and I’m just not confident it’ll find and retain it’s audience as an online multiplayer game.
Also, yeah how do I play if I’m in handheld mode or somewhere I’m unable to do the mouse controls?
Oh that title made me think Chingling had never had a card before now and I was so curious as to why! Then I read the article, saw that wasn't the case and realised that the card game is 30 years old not 15 and now I'm feeling so very old.
@Cry_Zero As I've said in other posts, due to the time in which is was made I'm sure that's not the intention. But intent and reality don't always match up. But times have moved on and now we know these sorts of stereotypes are much more harmful that they seem, so going forward we don't need to use them. Keep the old ones there, history is important to preserve not edit. But don't perpetuate.
just because something doesn't affect you doesn't mean it doesn't affect anyone.
@RareFan Ah yes. "A minority's opinion does not matter because I am not that minority". "They aren't even fans anyway, so why does their opinion matter". "Oooh devil's advocate, maybe they aren't offended and we are just pushing that ourselves".
The character is racist and misogynistic. I'm not going to judge it for for when it was made, people on the whole did not know better and I'm sure nothing bad was intended. But intent and reality don't always align and in those cases we apologise, we learn and we move on, we make something new, something better. Maybe use some of that creativity you don't want restrained to work the character into something more interesting that a lazy stereotype where the joke is their race and gender.
Being socially aware is not a restriction on art, it's what art is for, to teach, to hold up a mirror, to allow us to see our own folly, to reveal it, to lampoon it and to help us learn from it. Art can be created even with restrictions, limitation can foster and grow creativity.
There is literally zero reason to keep these offensive stereotypes in games going forward. Keep the history of them in past games, I don't think retroactively censoring things is healthy and nobody is suggesting that. But going forward, fix those mistakes. Because that is what they are, mistakes. mistakes that may seem innocuous to those not affected by them, but can be deeply affecting to those who are.
@RareFan Main goal or an easily avoidable mistake now that we know better?
Listen to yourself. You don't believe art can be made if not at the expense of perpetuating the belittlement of an oppressed minority?
What EXACTLY do you think Rare was trying to say with Humba Wumba? On an artistic level? Please do enlighten me? I have clearly missed the grand artistic statment that character brings.
Because, and maybe this is just me, but it seems to me that Humba Wumba was just one in a series of cheap throw away gags in a family game riddled with them? Just another little thing to make you giggle but in a time where the extent of the damage of that sort of humour and perpetuating that sort of stereotype wasn't fully realised.
But also let me ask you, why are we drawing the line here? In the late 90s? Why don't we just go back all the way and revert everything and all we've learned? Surely by the logic that we must preserve Humba Wumba for her artistic merit we should also preserve the act of the black and white minstrel? And bring back all the misogynistic humour of the 40s and 50s? After all if we don't we are censoring ourselves and there is no way possible art can be created! Certainly not one taking the form of a bear with a bird in his backpack trying to defeat a witch!
By your own very logic and words this is true and factual. In fact, by your own words and logic, because by the late 90s we HAD censored those things from earlier eras...Banjo Kazooie cannot be considered art or creatively valuable on any level. It has already succumbed to the dreaded censorship that makes art and creativity an impossibility. Which in turn means the adjustment and removal of such stereotypes is no big deal, and the only reason to keep them in would be because you like and enjoy racial stereotypes and misogyny?
I liked Crash 4, and I'm glad they toned back some of the questionable elements and obvious cultural appropriation. It didn't take away from the game and we all know better now. Plus the dumb humour was still in tact. It doesn't matter who were to bring it back, it's the 2020s they're not going to leave that questionable content in. You can debate censoring the old ones and remakes, I think there is reason for both sides of that argument, but brand new games have no excuse. We've moved on in design, tech, graphics and everything else, we should move on here.
Anyway I would love to see BK come back and Toys For Bob would be up there as my choice of devs to do it. They'll never do anything as bad as Nuts & Bolts and the original games are still there if you really cant play a game without casual racism from a bygone era.
I still think the price for games is fine. Yeah it's high and high I'd love it to be lower but I was paying £45-50 for a brand new game on the PS3. It's insane to think that games would still cost that when everything else has gone up so much!
@RainbowGazelle Obviously they can afford it, but lets be real a lot of big third parties don't have a good track record selling games on Nintendo for one reason or another. Outside of indies, Nintendo systems are notoriously for Nintendo games. But Nintendo obviously wants them on the system, so lowering a cost barrier for them but allowing them to have cheap carts will encourage that.
Obviously they can afford to put out the full sized cart, but why would they for an unproven audience? That's a bad business decision.
It already IS happening in games and has been for some time now. There are many games on Xbox and PS5 that are not the full game on the disc, just a small portion and the rest is downloaded. You still need the disc to run the game after it's downloaded though. It's the same thing, this is just a name for it and Nintendo being upfront about it.
It's an option. You can still just do the digital download that gives you no resale options, or you can buy a key card and have those options. The games that use this are not the games that were going to get a "full game" on cart release anyway. Not that you can even get that anyway, again because of updates and patches. Even Nintendo games have this as standard now. You think Splatoon 3 on your cart is the full game? Animal Crossing? Smash Bros? Even Zelda isn't.
@HammerKirby I didn't say anything to the contrary. I said these are better than digital downloads and that it's incredibly rare to have the FULL game on the cart these days anyway, as you'll always have patches and updates at least.
There is no argument that the full game on the cart is best. But the fact is it's just not an option for a lot of devs and publishers due to cost, most of which comes from storage on the cart. This will reduce that and mean some games that are still essentially a digital download, can at least now be traded, sold etc via the physical key.
Haha yeah I’m sure now that Nintendo’s lawyers are on your tail you don’t like the description. But let’s not pretend that wasn’t EXACTLY the edgey look you were going for when you first showed it. Why else would all the pals look so close to Pokémon?
This is essentially what's been happening on other platforms for some time, Nintendo is just being upfront about it.
A lot of games on PS5 and Xbox sX are not the full game on the disc and when you insert it, it triggers a download for the rest of the game. I'm not talking patches and updates, this can be the bulk of the game. And you still need to put the disc in each time you want to play.
I didn’t realise achievements were still a thing people cared about? Like it’s fun to say I got a Platinum but I’m not going very far out of my way to get it.
Lack of music is a shame, you could just pause it for the videos. But also I get it, if you’re trying to sell a game like Elden Ring and the Wii Shop music is playing that is a bit of a tonal clash. You could let the devs add their own music to a page but that’s all a bit MySpacey and could be quite annoying.
I think what I’d like more than music is just a bit of character. Like the literal character from the 3DS eShop, they were great.
How about we all just calm down and see what they actually have implemented before crying foul?
If you’re sceptical that is healthy and natural but you don’t have to start accusing them of being lazy, greedy etc when you actually don’t know anything. It’s really not long before the thing is out an in people’s hands and before YouTube channels all over start pulling it apart to see what is actually inside.
Just wait. Express skepticism by all means but put the venom away. You might be right, but you equally might be pleasantly surprised and completely wrong. Time will tell. And don’t worry that they haven’t explicitly said “and problem X is now fixed”, they’re not going too because that’s bad marketing by associating your name and product with an issue. Not stating it’s fixed is not a way of saying it’s not fixed.
Now do your mental health a solid, chill out and touch grass.
Curious to see what alternative they went with. As others have said Hall Effect is not the only option, so not using then doesn’t mean they’re bad.
Also this was not an issue unique to Nintendo this gen. PS5 Dualsense had the exact same drift issue. Nintendo at least fixed/replaced all my Joy-Con when they broke.
I don’t know about the Xbox pads but I do know anecdotally that I have had one fall less than a meter on to plush carpet and that be enough to stop the wireless connection working. It’s now a wired only console. They’re possibly the worst made of the bunch.
@Alpha008 you know magnets stick to various metal too, right? They confirmed in the reveal that the new SL/SR buttons are steel and the magnets are in the console itself.
@BFahey3 in the UK Argos, Amazon and Curry’s have all had pre-orders up at various points online. I think Amazon was a sign up for an invite thing. Argos was weird sometimes it said you had to wait until 8th and sometimes it took you to preorder. Curry’s I don’t know but a friend got hers there last week.
I think it’s only on Nintendo where you need to wait until the 8th. But that being said some stores take preorders before knowing what stock they have so it can be a risk.
Eh I don’t think the shine is wearing off. Not for me anyway.
Ultimately it’s a more powerful Switch with some very exciting new games coming up. Yeah there are some questions, but if you’re going to be an early adopter you have to be realistic and expect some quirks and to have to do a bit more research.
Anecdotally I know more people who have pre-ordered the Switch 2 than the original Switch. I don’t think the concerns and questions are as widespread. We’re all in an echo chamber here anyway.
They've made it all a bit confusing. Honestly I think they should have just had the Switch 2 version come with the upgrade on the cart, because now they have a weird thing where there are two versions of the cart (the original black and the new red) both which have the exact same contents.
But now I'm confused as to whether or not I can lend that new red cart to friends on a Switch 1 or not? If not then all this means is if I lend this cart to my Switch 2 friends, they have to pay for the upgrade separately. Which you could argue is fair as they're not buying the game, but is a backwards step from previous carts.
Or is it an original Switch 1 black cart and a single use upgrade code? In which case I might as well just buy the original Switch box without the ugly disclaimers and QR, and buy the upgrade separately. And also if I'm getting upgrades with the expansion pack...there's no point me buying the new version?
And how does this all factor into the virtual cart system? If I don't have the online expansion pass but I buy an individual game upgrade, when I share that virtual cart with a family member who also has a Switch 2 do they get the upgrade pack too or do they have to buy it again? And if I've bought the upgrade can I share the standard version with a family member on the Switch 1?
Kart, DK, Metroid, Silksong, Riders and Fast are all musts for me, plus the Kirby DLC.
The tour is a joke that should be included for free. Drag x Drive I want to give a go but not if it’s also £65-75. Something tells me it won’t have an active player base much after the launch period.
@OorWullie I would hope so but if that was the case I don't know why you wouldn't show that off? Starting in a dark underground stadium with basic bots and building up to the bright and colourful big leagues would have been amazing.
But even then, look at graffiti culture, the start doesn't need to be all grey and boring, it can still be colourful. So I just don't think it'll be that, but would love to be proven wrong here.
Man I loved Arms, I wish they'd done a bit more with it. I think if they'd stuck by it a bit more they could have turned people around on it. but it definitely should have had the end roster at launch and then new characters on top of that, it did feel a tad light on content at the start.
Anyway Drag x Drive....agreed it's a terrible name and the visuals are super uninspired. Underground and gritty sports doesn't have to mean dark and grey. There's a whole world of graffiti art and culture that's bursting with colour and character to tap into there. It's a real missed mark.
Making wheelchair basketball into a video game. I absolutely love! And replicating the controlling of the wheelchair the way they have is fantastic. But do I want to rub joy-cons up and down my legs or sit at a desk to play? I don't know. I feel like I wont want too, maybe I'll try it and feel differently? I think it's a much bigger barrier to entry than Arms had though, and combined with a really dull aesthetic (apologies to the artists) I don't think many will bother with it, even if it's cheap.
The problem isn’t really that the game prices have gone up. Everything has recently. The problem is wages have not gone up to match inflation.
So instead of complaining to Nintendo that you can’t afford Mario Kart. Complain to your boss that you can’t afford anything like you used to be able too.
Seriously I went to buy a tube of Pringles the other day and the ‘sale’ price is now more than what the standard price was a couple years ago.
Glad gyro is an option still. Never liked mouse controls for FPS or anything other than base-builders. Plus I can't see where I'm going to be using mouse mode, most of the time I'll be on the sofa in front of the TV or in bed, not at a desk. Still it's a great option and the game looks incredible!
I absolutely love it! So much more expressive, so much more approachable. I’ve always like DK’s games but never his design that much, it was always just a little too aggressive. I think this is a perfect marriage of that Rare DK and the original arcade version.
And honestly I thought we were only going to get it for MKW so I’m very excited to see in in a new 3D platformer too!
His little jeans though were odd, but funny. Glad he’s generally still sticking with the tie.
Honestly for Mario Kart...yeah I know I'll be getting my money's worth there. Sorry to all who hate the price, it IS high and it will sadly price some people out which I don't like at all...but if I look at it on a most basic time/cost ratio, based on earlier titles this worth that price.
Games like the new Donkey Kong? I don't know. Maybe in terms of it's size it'll work out the same, maybe I'll drop 80 hours into that game? But I worry that they're pricing people out and the less popular franchises will suffer? This is way above an "I'll give it a go" price.
This, much like 1-2 Switch, should be built into the console and free.
Even Playstation gave away Astrobot's Playroom with the PS5 to show off all the cool things it can do, and it resulted in an IP people loved so much they made an award winning full-game out of it.
The discrepancy will be people will pay that bit more for MKW than they will DKB. And it seems Nintendo maybe want sales to go more digital (especially with the massively increased default storage), so those are cheaper again.
Wouldn't be surprised if this new price put a lot of people off and they reduced it a bit down the line though.
Dunno why we're all assuming the 'C' button function begins with a 'c'.
A - Accept or Action could work. B - Back C - Cast? X - X-ray? Xylophone? Y - Yellow? Yes? Yams? Yogurt?
I kinda hope it's not a 'cast' button, or 'cursor'. It's just too easy to accidentally press in single-joycon mode. As proved by how many photos of Mario Party and Overcooked I have on my Switch that I did not take.
Outside of that I was hoping for Metroid 4, but that was in the last Direct and they didn’t make a huge deal of it so I don’t know now. But I’d still like to see something of how it’s improved on Switch 2.
I think we’ll likely get a teaser of a new Mario game coming shortly after launch and Animal Crossing coming winter 2026.
There will probably be some launch party game and I hope a new IP or return of something obscure like Dillon’s Rolling Western (ok that’s me with very wishful thinking)
Third party there will be a tons of ports, many of them will be Monster Hunter. But unless we get more dead PlayStation IP ports like the unexpected Patapon (Loco Roco being my top choice) they don’t excite me that much.
Silksong turning up is like 50-50 chance at this point.
Mii used to be such an integral part of gaming on Nintendo. I do miss them just being around doing their weird things.
Honestly, even though they didn’t arrive until the Wii, the just feel so core to Nintendo to me, when the Switch semi-dropped them it felt so weird, like they’d always been around as long as Mario himself.
Doesn’t feel like the kind of thing that would require a physical button? I have enough random screenshots from people pressing the capture button, I kinda hope they’re not now going to randomly start pressing the ‘cast’ button as well.
Honestly I expected just a few remasters and ports of arcade games and RPGs. The fact we got Metroid and new Rhythm Heaven and Tomodatchi Life games announced was awesome! Plus I never though I’d ever see Patapon outside a Sony system!
I don’t know what people were expecting. But anything more than what we got given next week the new console is getting a Direct feels like an unreasonable ask.
This looks lovely. And even though visually it's clearly heavily inspired by early Pokémon games, the creatures themselves don't actually look like Pokémon rip-offs! See! It can be done!
@LastFootnote it’s not a game mechanic it’s a rendering technology.
Sounds interesting. I’m not sure I fully understand it but I think it might be a way to reduce processing power by making 3D objects 2D but retaining the lighting as if they were 3D. I don’t think it necessarily has anything to do with remakes at all, I think this is tech that could benefit games like Mario Wonder or Metroid Dread (or their future iterations at least). 2D games made from 3D assets.
Pretty sure all existing mega evolutions will be there, would like to see new ones but it would have to be for all the Pokémon. Also remove the need for an individual stone for each.
Still not entirely sure why they didn’t use mega Pokémon designs as Gigantamax forms for those that had them. Could have spun it as a variation of mega evolutions which is why some look the same and some are new. And now they could be doing vice-versa.

Physcial hasn't meant all data on the cart/disc for ages now. So many games have patches and updates long after release, even Nintendo ones.
These at least give you a way to sell, trade, lend and borrow digital downloads.
@Lizuka Exactly! Good to hear someone being reasonable and level-headed about this.

@Alpha008 you know magnets stick to various metal too, right? They confirmed in the reveal that the new SL/SR buttons are steel and the magnets are in the console itself.
Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal
Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal
Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Wind Waker Is On Switch 2 - Do You Still Want A WW:HD Port?
I will buy every version of this game Nintendo sends my way.
Re: 'Switch 2 Editions' Are Supposedly A Switch Game Card And Download Code For The Upgrade Pack
Re: 'Switch 2 Editions' Are Supposedly A Switch Game Card And Download Code For The Upgrade Pack
@Mana_Knight the upgrade pack will be just the upgrade, a patch essentially. You’ll still need the cart to play.
Re: Community: Which Switch 2 Games Are You Wishlisting?
Kart, DK, Metroid, Silksong, Riders and Fast are all musts for me, plus the Kirby DLC.
The tour is a joke that should be included for free. Drag x Drive I want to give a go but not if it’s also £65-75. Something tells me it won’t have an active player base much after the launch period.
Re: Hands On: 'Drag x Drive' Is Fantastic, But Is It Destined To Be Switch 2's ARMS?
@OorWullie I would hope so but if that was the case I don't know why you wouldn't show that off? Starting in a dark underground stadium with basic bots and building up to the bright and colourful big leagues would have been amazing.
But even then, look at graffiti culture, the start doesn't need to be all grey and boring, it can still be colourful. So I just don't think it'll be that, but would love to be proven wrong here.
Re: Hands On: 'Drag x Drive' Is Fantastic, But Is It Destined To Be Switch 2's ARMS?
Re: Nintendo Treehouse 3rd April 2025 - All Switch 2 Gameplay Reveals
Oooh I need to watch these! No new secret game being revealed at treehouse this time then? Codename S.T.E.A.M 2? No?
I jest but I would have actually been so hyped if they announced that!
Re: "DROP THE PRICE!!!" Scream Nintendo Fans During Nintendo's Treehouse Live Broadcast
Re: Hands On: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond On Switch 2 Is Staggering
Glad gyro is an option still. Never liked mouse controls for FPS or anything other than base-builders. Plus I can't see where I'm going to be using mouse mode, most of the time I'll be on the sofa in front of the TV or in bed, not at a desk. Still it's a great option and the game looks incredible!
Re: Donkey Kong Country Artist Shares His Thoughts On Kong's New Design
@Reptilio that appears to be his mining clothes. Doesn’t seem to be a permanent redesign as even on the box art he’s back to just a tie.
Re: Donkey Kong Country Artist Shares His Thoughts On Kong's New Design
I absolutely love it! So much more expressive, so much more approachable. I’ve always like DK’s games but never his design that much, it was always just a little too aggressive. I think this is a perfect marriage of that Rare DK and the original arcade version.
And honestly I thought we were only going to get it for MKW so I’m very excited to see in in a new 3D platformer too!
His little jeans though were odd, but funny. Glad he’s generally still sticking with the tie.
Re: "Don't Let Nintendo Ruin The Entire Industry" - Is $80 For Mario Kart World A Bridge Too Far?
Honestly for Mario Kart...yeah I know I'll be getting my money's worth there. Sorry to all who hate the price, it IS high and it will sadly price some people out which I don't like at all...but if I look at it on a most basic time/cost ratio, based on earlier titles this worth that price.
Games like the new Donkey Kong? I don't know. Maybe in terms of it's size it'll work out the same, maybe I'll drop 80 hours into that game? But I worry that they're pricing people out and the less popular franchises will suffer? This is way above an "I'll give it a go" price.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour Price Has Been Confirmed
This, much like 1-2 Switch, should be built into the console and free.
Even Playstation gave away Astrobot's Playroom with the PS5 to show off all the cool things it can do, and it resulted in an IP people loved so much they made an award winning full-game out of it.
Re: Yep, Metroid Prime 4's Box Art For Switch 2 Is... Corrupted
Man....that's ugly. I might just buy the Switch edition and the upgrade download.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Game Upgrade Pack Prices Seemingly Revealed (Japan)
I'll get the Kirby one as that's extra content.
Glad the Zelda ones are free, they didn't seem to add much more.
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
The discrepancy will be people will pay that bit more for MKW than they will DKB. And it seems Nintendo maybe want sales to go more digital (especially with the massively increased default storage), so those are cheaper again.
Wouldn't be surprised if this new price put a lot of people off and they reduced it a bit down the line though.
Re: Nintendo Drops Teaser Video For The Switch 2's 'C' Button
Dunno why we're all assuming the 'C' button function begins with a 'c'.
A - Accept or Action could work.
B - Back
C - Cast?
X - X-ray? Xylophone?
Y - Yellow? Yes? Yams? Yogurt?
I kinda hope it's not a 'cast' button, or 'cursor'. It's just too easy to accidentally press in single-joycon mode. As proved by how many photos of Mario Party and Overcooked I have on my Switch that I did not take.
Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Switch 2 Direct
I think Mario Kart 9 is a given.
Re: Listen Up, Mii Are Officially Back And They Now Have Ears
Mii used to be such an integral part of gaming on Nintendo. I do miss them just being around doing their weird things.
Honestly, even though they didn’t arrive until the Wii, the just feel so core to Nintendo to me, when the Switch semi-dropped them it felt so weird, like they’d always been around as long as Mario himself.
Re: Rumour: New Switch 2 Rumour Makes Wild Claim About Mysterious 'C' Button
Doesn’t feel like the kind of thing that would require a physical button? I have enough random screenshots from people pressing the capture button, I kinda hope they’re not now going to randomly start pressing the ‘cast’ button as well.
Re: PSA: You Can Now Download Nintendo's New Mobile App
My phone is too old. How is it I can still play PoGo but not download Nintendo Music or News apps??
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Direct For March 2025?
Honestly I expected just a few remasters and ports of arcade games and RPGs. The fact we got Metroid and new Rhythm Heaven and Tomodatchi Life games announced was awesome! Plus I never though I’d ever see Patapon outside a Sony system!
I don’t know what people were expecting. But anything more than what we got given next week the new console is getting a Direct feels like an unreasonable ask.
Re: Pokémon Meets Stardew Valley In Latest Kickstarter Success Story
This looks lovely. And even though visually it's clearly heavily inspired by early Pokémon games, the creatures themselves don't actually look like Pokémon rip-offs! See! It can be done!
Re: Pac-Man DLC Launches For Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble Alongside Version 2.20 Update
That….does not seem like a lot of content for that much money.
Re: New Nintendo Patent Is All About 2D Visuals, But Don't Jump To Any Remake Conclusions
@LastFootnote it’s not a game mechanic it’s a rendering technology.
Re: Rumour: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Will Add Lots Of New Mega Evolutions, It's Claimed
