Sony has revealed that a Secret of Mana remake is in the works for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Steam.
Launching on February 15th 2018, the game will boast 3D graphics and controls, full voice acting, a newly arranged soundtrack and local multiplayer. Pre-orders are open now.
Of course, when you hear that one of the most iconic SNES RPGs of all time is getting a remake you naturally assume that a Switch version is forthcoming - but that sadly doesn't seem to be the case, although amazingly, the near-dead PS Vita is getting a release.
For the time being, Nintendo fans will have to make do with Seiken Densetsu Collection - although at the present moment in time, that hasn't been confirmed for western localisation.

Meh ... nothing beats 16-bit sprites. They're timeless. I'll stay with the Snes Classic version.... if I can find one
Criminal!!!
Aww, love to play it on the switch. I don't think I'd play it on my vita for some reason.
Hopefully they bring it to switch at some point.
It doesn't look as nice as hand drawn artwork. Testament to how good the original was I reckon!
http://nooooooooooooooo.com/ press the damn button!
One of my favourite games of all time, I just started playing the original game with my daughter. I've never been more gutted that a game isn't coming to my favourite console.
Thanks for nothing Square Enix! I loved that game on the SNES. It's one of the very best. The opening music is still probably the most memorable ever. I mean, why would you put it on Nintendo hardware? It only started life there.
Cool, maybe I'll get it for my vita. I was wondering why the vita still gets many releases, but I'm on holiday in Japan now and I understand now. The vita is still extremely popular with many Japanese releases there. It's the xbox that's dead there
Who cares,I'll play it on my mini.
This new look is not great based on this short trailer.
Love the original but for me the only option I'd like to see is three player online, then I'd be interested.
Never played it but😡
Here we have another Capcom (as in no loyalty). Square Enix are idiots seriously. Secret of Mana would be a perfect release for Switch. Just like a portable FIFA. Come on... Do it...
Well then..... That's bullshizz. I have an inkling that Sony have become the Nintendo of the 2000's, backing publishers into a corner to put their titles on their systems and nobody else's.
Ah well, I won't be buying/playing it as I pushed my PS4 out the door for more Switch games.
I like to think this is all some big marketing plan, and SquareEnix will give the Switch this and the collection (To the West) eventually...
But it still hurts
It has so far only been announced for the Sony products. I would remain hopeful that there will be a Switch announcement closer the time. We have seen this before where Nintendo have waited until closer to release to allow companies to announce the games. Hopefully this will also pave the way for the sequel being translated in the west
Maybe coming to the Switch later?
How long has this been in devolopement? That might factor in.
I don't remember what game it was, Dragon Quest perhaps, where the Switch was not announced at the same time.
But are PS4, Vita and Steam having the Mana Collection? That's what I thought.
Come on, who here would prefer to see this released over a localisation of Mana3? LOCALISE THE COLLECTION DAMMIT!!! (Oh and this game would have been better if they did HD sprites /artwork like USF2 or WB I reckon.)
Oh noes. I was pretty excited when I read the title and then disappointed.
One of my favorourite games ever (especially in local multiplayer). What a pity. Maybe they'll release for switch some time in the future? Also I hope they change the radial menu, so that it doesn't interrupt gameplay when equipping new weapons / choosing spells / using items, which was my only gripe with the game.
Vita already has the engine up and running. So getting this game is not weird at all.
Plus; Vita is awesome!
What did you expect? Seiken Densetsu Collection just came out this summer. Bolivar cannot carry double.
Damn you, Sony !
The PS Vita is still hugely popular in Japan. No huge surprise they still bring games to it.
Looks a lot like the Final Fantasy Adventure (Mana 1) mobile remake. Probably squeezing one more from those assets. At least it's on Vita
Not bothered, now I have finally managed to pre order a Snes Mini I'll be able to play the original, remakes are rarely better
F off Sony. Secret of Mana was one my favorites on the SNES.
Come Nintendo strike a deal
@GoldenGamer88 Now the question becomes are we gonna get the collection localized?
Maybe I'll get it for mobile instead - pretty much guaranteed to end up there before Switch, at this rate.
@liljmoore Switch is region-free, just import it and if you're having trouble understanding something, ask a guide.
Looks horrendous! Nothing like the original which is iconic. The music was amazing on the SNES game too, I bet that doesn't end up being as good here, no matter how 'orchestral' it is. And voice acting? Ugh.
Really not bothered about this. Now if it was an official translation of Seiken Densetsu 3 and that wasn't coming to a Nintendo console, I'd be annoyed.
Wonder how much money sony had to give square to agree to a vita release. That thing sold even more poorly then wii u ,and sony themselves have giving up on it.
Probably Sony paying developers again to keep games away from the Switch and put Nintendo at a disadvantage. Nothing new.
@GoldenGamer88 I've never cared for doing that. That's why I want them to stop playing around and localize it.
3D graphics?
Voice acting?
No thanks.
That is NOT FAIR! Loved the original, was hoping the collection would be Westernised but i doubt that too, ever since Enix merged with Square it ruined Final Fantasy
Hmm looking at it there I'm not bothered really. This is a top down 16bit masterpiece. Sure the revamped tunes would be good but the original is the best and clearly it's Sony thing as I don't see it coming out for XBoxOne.....
Plus it's on the SNES Mini along with the best Final Fantasy as well!
@liljmoore Fair enough, suit yourself.
Missed opportunity. Co-op on Switch would've been perfect. But I'll play it wherever it comes out.
The original on Switch and Snes Mini, but we can't get the Remake, Even if I'm Setsuna for example, which also was on PS4, Vita and PC, was actually released on he Switch.
What the Hell Square Enix?!.
I like it. But pitty it won't see light on other consoles. Me don't like
That is truly disappointing. This would be such an easy port for the Switch.
Get your act together Square Enix morons, this needs to be on Switch.
well that farkin sucks donkey wang
Sony eventually became enough arrogant to bicker with history, she wants to be known as the standard so it took many IP that were Nintendo bound. It started with Final Fantasy, now it's time for Secret of Mana. Well... at least that bit** of Square can still decide what to sell to who and for how much time.
They do a remake of the my "best game ever" and they dont do a Switch version.
Square-Enix do me a favor. Go bankrupt and disappearing completely from the face of the earth!
@bolt05 How is that Nintendos fault? They were not the ones deciding.
Meh, I never found Secret of Mana particularly amazing aside from the soundtrack. I will probably still get this though, I'd expect they at least made the magic system less terrible, that alone would make the game a lot better already.
I do wonder how much money they must get from a Vita port this day and age (at least outside of Japan).
Shame to miss it on Switch but would prefer that delicious Mana collection more. But game companies seem to not understand the concept of money sometimes.
@bolt05 Square Enix is actually one of the more consistent third party Switch developers with more than 8 titles released or in development, including Dragon Quest Builders 2 for PS4/Switch, and not Vita. If this is on the Vita and not the Switch, despite Square Enix's documented eagerness to port whatever they can on the Switch, there is a reason for its absence, but it would not be because Square Enix would have trouble porting it. So calm the nibelsnarf down.
Sony seems to have no issue paying for games to not be on other systems, despite no other system being able to catch the PS4 by this point. Heck, they probably wont hit PS4 numbers until well after PS5 is out so....why do this? Spite?
In a sane world, the Seiken Densetsu Collection would be translated and this new remake would find its rightful home on the latest Nintendo hardware. I'll feel dirty playing this on Steam.
this must have been in the works already for some time.
all has been done in 3d with voice over, so this has been in devolpment for atleast 1.5 year, as the release is early next year. suspect was already well underway before switch came in the picture
@30mm It was developed using the same style and assets as their previous remake for Adventures of Mana that was on Vita/Mobile. Doing it that way probably saved them development time, actually.
@SCAssassin How dare you abuse me with profanity.
@30mm
Good point. Probably started before SE got their Switch dev. kits, hopefully a Switch version is on the horizon.
WTF!? F Sony and F the world.
@bolt05 Calm the firetruck down.
Wait, Sony didn't announce that a game is coming to Switch? That's odd.
That seems adorable although largely superfluous.
I LOVE Secret Of Mana! Strange this re-release did not come out on the Switch or the 3DS but it is nice to see the Vita get some love. I hope it gets localized for the US, I will definitely pick it up for the Vita. Don't hate but I still don't have a Switch. I actually bought one but returned it to put my money toward the Xbox One X. I don't own an Xbox One so I have almost 3 years of free Xbox One games from Xbox Live I own but can't play so the One X was a no brainer for me. I know I will be getting a Switch but in the mean time I am enjoying games on my 3DS and believe it or not but I still buy games for my Wii VC and WiiWare. I must have over 200 games on my SD card in my Wii. If you have not played the original Secret of Mana I believe it is still on the Wii VC service.
Not interested in this, neither on my PS4 or my Switch. But I still don't understand why Square didn't release the Seiken Densetsu trilogy in the west. If they released it in April-May they could have killed it.
I'd rather have the Seiken Densetsu Collection localized in english to be honest...
The 3D looks cheap, the screen looks cramped and too small, and why did they made it 3D anyway? q.q
@MakeMyBiscuit It's announced for a worldwide release on Feb 15th
@Vix The PSVita is doing in Japan the same sales numbers as the WiiU did last year. It doesn't have any active fanbase anymore. It's just Sony being Sony and prefering buying exclusivity to see a game dying on their system rather than letting it doing well elsewhere. With the Vita they completely destroyed the niche japanese industry just to make a point against Nintendo. Terrible behavior.
@Menchi187 Thanks! I will be picking it up.
Absolutely gutted, and still no word on the SoM re-release in Japan being localised for the west.
This is definitely disappointing. Putting on Vita is a waste. But that's ok. Switch isn't even a year old yet. Install base takes time to grow. I give it a year, maybe 18 months, and Switch will have surpassed Vita worldwide. At which point announcements like this will be a thing of the past.
I think we can all foresee how popular Switch will become, and are eager to see results. But I have to remind myself, even if Switch is on track to be a huge success, it's not there yet. Holiday 2018, beyond that point I doubt we'll see any Japanese games skipping Switch, barring those Sony is paying to keep off the system and put on their dead handheld in a wild attempt to bluff as if it's a viable alternative... There was a time I would have been excited for a nice Vita release... But that time has passed.
@Vix
"Hugely popular" is a stretch. There are 5 million Vita owners in Japan. There are almost 25 million 3DS owners. Switch hasn't even been out 6 months, and it's already passed 1 mil and on its way to 2 mil. In 6 months, it's reached 25% of the total Vita base which took 6 years.
It was never hugely popular in Japan, it just wasn't as much of a disaster as NA. But ever since Switch released, Vita sales have fallen down to just a few thousand per week.
@Yasaal Goes to show that putting emotion into these things leads to disappointment. Companies are beholden only to their wallets and shareholders, and care nothing for notions such as loyalty.
@JaxonH So you too are believing those paid off rumours? The DQ one has been debunked: http://nintendoeverything.com/square-enix-working-on-technical-adjustments-for-dragon-quest-xi-on-switch/ and the MH one could easily be attributed to it starting development half-way in 2013. The only one that smells off is this one.
Honestly, i don't understand why they bother remaking a 16 bit game at all when they just aim to give it early PS2/Dreamcast level graphics (but in HD).
However, i think the gaming media should really start asking more questions when Nintendo gets this absurdly unfair treatment from third parties.
Reminds me of how Soul Calibur 3 was PS2 exclusive depite SC2 selling the best on the Gamecube or how Namco put Time Crisis and their other arcade lightgun shooters on the PS3 when the Wii would have been the perfect choice (the games ran on PS2-like hardware in the arcades anyway, so the Wii could have handled it).
Kinda takes me back to the PS1/N64 days, when Final Fantasy went from Snes to the PS1 & the sky started falling! Ah to be young again....
@bitleman
Hm...
Should we boycott Sony against this ?
Let's punish Sony !
That looks gross, I'd rather not know this exists. The truth is SoM without pixels ain't right.
...So, just localize the damn collection!
@Anti-Matter I don't think some random people boycotting on Nintendo news site is a punishment for Sony.
@UmniKnight
Nothing was debunked. That statement was made, surprise surprise, after the PS4 version released. Which is exactly as expected. Couldnt talk about it til release. It releases and then they suddenly talk about it... hmmm
Where there's smoke there's almost always a fire. If it was one instance, or two, then ok maybe write that off as coincidence. But there's far too many examples happening, and these sudden Vita versions, after the system has been neglected for years, seems fishy.
So yes, I do believe they're actively paying to keep games off the system and suppress information about games coming to the system, as well as paying for Vita versions alongside that in an attempt to present it as an alternative.
I can't say which ones are true and which aren't, but I know something's going on. And it turns me off as a consumer, as both a PS4 and Vita owner. It turns me off.
Don't be hating on the Vita
"modern 3D graphics and controls"? yeah i don't know about that. it looks pretty similar to the remake of the first game..and that I wouldn't call modern graphics. and the controls weren't that great in the first remake either. but i am looking forward to the new soundtrack.
are they re-translating it like they did with the first remake?
@JaxonH Agreed on the turn-off part, but what can one do? It'd need a serious out-cry to have a publisher give anything more than a hearty laugh. And I do think you've a point in regards to thinking the Sony might be up to something, but if they are, they're doing it sneaky, and so we'll never know for sure.
Only thing one can hope, is that Nintendo fights fire with fire, but I doubt they'll do that honestly (unless paying for exclusives fits this, which I can see them do)
I would prefer getting his for my Switch being my most favorite action RPG of all time and also playing it on my Super Nintendo but if push comes to shove and that never sees the light of day I'll chalk it up and buy it on my PS4!
Unbelievable
@jswhitfield8 And here I thought the Switch would have no trouble being labelled popular with how it's doing right now, sold out in Japan, and still selling well all-over.
Meh...just give us the Seiken collection. Methinks Square believes only kids play the Switch so they're tossing us the cute Final Fantasy XV Pocket Mobile game.
Nice. Hopefully this port is a little less sloppy than AoM considering it's being made for consoles from the get go. Definitely picking this up for Vita at some point.
I'm fine with that- It looks terrible!
I would be interested if it came to the Switch, but now I'll see if my PC can run it and wait for a ridiculous discount on Steam.
I'll admit this is dissapointing.... if the remake can run on Vita, it sure can run on the Switch. Either money was thrown around here or Squeenix are being, well, Squeenix.
If they are making a PS4/Windows version it would be very easy for them to make a Xbox One version as well, digitally at least. A Switch version should be possible too because it's more powerful than Vita, right? Weird. Perhaps more platforms will be announced? The reveal was in Japan where PS4 and Vita are much loved.
Looks like Ever Oasis now. That is not a good thing. (Goes back to playing Secret of Mana on the Xbox)....what? It has save states! Don't worry, I plan on getting the SNES classic at launch. My treasured SNES copy will continue to gather dust...
I would rather have the collection than this remake. those character models feel too different, though that opening is beautiful.
i bought the SNES soundtrack and listen to it regularly to get the creative brain flowing.
@Ichiban:
The difference is, there were good creative and economic reasons why Square went with the PS1 for FFVII. They wated CGI cutscenes and CGI backgrounds, and that would not have worked well with N64 cardridges because it would have been way to expensive back in the day.
Now, with stuff like this, or Soul Calibur 3, or Time Crisis 4, or the Mega Man collection, or the Disney Afternoon Collection, in these cases the games would likely work perfectly and sell the BEST on Nintendo platforms, yet third parties ignore them out of some stupid bias/prejudice/old grudge or because they get bribed.
This has to be acknowledged and it has to be pointed out.
I agree that the SNES version looks absolutely pretty and not only that but sounds great.
The collection is Japan only and now this is not coming to Switch.
#thumbsdown @ Nintendo and Square Enix
Great news! Steam it is.
That's a low blow! I guess I'll get it on steam, although it'd be 1000 time better if it were on the Switch.
@jswhitfield8 True, but one has to make mistakes in order to learn, tis part of being human.
@Anti-Matter No need to boycott anything. The japanese industry is already collapsing on its own. Good riddance.
I'd really be surprised if it didn't come to Switch. If it doesn't I don't think that Square said screw Nintendo. More like Sony not wanting it to release on Nintendo.
@bitleman
Ah...
The truth reality, eh ?
Just wait a second, if the announcement was made by Sony themselves, they were not likely to tell you that you're going to be able to play it on the hottest handheld system of the moment that is in direct competition with their own platforms. Wait for Square Enix to say themselves that they're not planning it for Switch before you conclude that it's not coming to Switch at all.
EDIT: I'd even go so far as saying that if the playstation blog article doesn't say that it will be exclusive to the playstation platform on the console side of things is a good indication that it won't be. If it was, you can bet they'd have said so outright. But then, if it is not coming on the Switch on the same day, it may come later, which would make sense since the original was already re-released on on it less than a year before the Japanese release of the collection on said platform. They could still bring it later to Switch when it would make more sense, commercially speaking.
Only interested if they restore some of the content that was lost in the move from the SNES Playstation.
Wow! I'm shocked at the fact that this is real AND that the traitorous squareenix is shafting Nintendo...again.
Oh well...at least it's not Chrono Trigger. And I've been playing all the mana games on Switch since I imported the collection. It's amazing.
I've never had any interest in any of Square's 3D remakes of their Final Fantasy series, and I have no interest in this. The classic sprite-based originals are still viable today. Obviously, Sony paid Square for exclusive access and since Square's CEO sleeps at the foot of Kaz Hirai's bed I'm hardly surprised it's exclusive to their platforms. (Oh, and PC, which threatens their console business in no way whatsoever.)
I didn't care very much about this game before but NOW this has become something of interest. Purely because the remake looks to be something I'd be interested in getting - especially on the Switch. What the heck was that for, Square!?
Looks like it still use the horrible 3D graphics from Adventure of Mana, got that for the PS Vita and it plays horribly, game running at 30fps, control bubble appearance that can't be taken away so the screen always feel cramp. Again PS Vita had no new game but just ports and remakes at this point. I still don't get why Square Enix even bother with remaking this when they already remake one for mobile a few years ago, may as well just port that version instead since it looks and runs much better. If any game needs a remake, it's Seiken Densetsu 3.
PS Vita was a great console that deserved better fate. Like Dreamcast. I'm happy it still get some love...
PS Vita got a decent run in Japan. I hope for a western release
Switch may get it at some point too.
Switch is sellin' like hotcakes and half of these 3rd parties want nothing to do with that success. lol
Kinda sounds like the Vita release is tied some kind of old contract requirement. Hopefully that'll expire and we'll get a, sigh, Switch port (instead of a game built for the Switch).
Not trying to sound salty, but looks inferior to the original pixel art.
I don't get it why these big corporations won't utilize modern pixel art techniques. A "remaster" with the same art style, a modern engine and modern "3D accelerated" tech could be awesome. The same pixel style but more details and advanced effects. Or maybe use hand-drawn paintings for backgrounds and hand-animated sprites? (That might be too expensive though..)
Instead they opted for this weird mobile 3D that lacks any shaders or lighting effect? I mean, it's okay, but just inferior.
Looking forward to the soundtrack anyhow!
A quick search on the official PS Blog article and I didn't find the word "exclusive" in there. If that were the case, they would absolutely mention this on the post.
So I think there's still hope for a Switch announcement soon.
Going to be irritated if we don't get this, especially since it already appears like they don't care about bringing over the trilogy they released in JP already .
Decisions like this (see also: Disney Afternoon Collection) are baffling from every perspective, including the business one. Of all the demographics to push sales, surely it's the Nintendo crowd?
Getting it for my PS4
I would absolutely have bought this on Switch if it came on there.
Oh well. Be that way, Square. Guess I'll just play this on my new and shiny SNES Classic when that releases. I actually never played this game before so I guess it's better to experience the original first!
Disappointing, but being a digital only release its a little less disappointing. If jt comes westwards I'll buy it for Vita (when on sale).
The fact that its on both Sony platforms and not on the Switch does make me wonder if there is some sort of agreement with Sony to launch it on its platforms or that perhaps the game was conceived and started development before the Switch was fully ready.
But who can tell without insider knowledge.
Always a joy to see the "X company paid to not have it on Switch!!!"
Despite how untrue it probably is.
Well, that's just wrong.
Is this being copublished by Sony?
I can't complain too much.
1. I have a PS4.
2. I've never played Secret of Mana.
3. 3DS had some good exclusives from Square-Enix, like DQVII's remake, Bravely Default & Second, and Kingdom Hearts 3D... at least, for a good while anyways.
Why, SquareEnix, why!
What a slap in the face! First no localization for Seiken Densetsu Collection and now a remake of one of my favorite SNES games of all time doesn't get released on Switch... I just don't get it. Does Square Enix hate Nintendo and its fans that much?
I played Tree of Mana back on the GBA so playing Secret should be good.
Square Enix may be a good Switch supported with all those Dragon Quest games + stuff like Secret of Mana Collection, I am Setsuna, Lost Sphear, Project Octopath, and something FFXV related, but they are still very good friends with Sony...
Though this game should still come to Switch and mobile.
...How did the Vita get this? This seems like an odd choice to make. Did the Seiken Densetsu collection sell badly in Japan or something?
This is just stupid.
Nobody is even buying the Vita anymore.
It is nice having a PS4 and not worrying about missing out on games.
@Yasaal Will people stop spouting off about loyalty? Third-Party Developers have every right to put their games on whatever platform they want to.
Sometimes, that means you don't get the games that you want on the platform of your choice.
Street Fighter IV and King of Fighters were both on the 360 last gen, and yet the Xbox One missed out on Street Fighter V and King of Fighters XIV.
Am I bummed out about it? Yeah, but I'm not going to sit around blasting Capcom and SNK as Tratiors just because a game I wanted is not on my system of choice.
The harsh truth is that Nintendo lost alot of support last gen with the Wii U. Its going to take awhile for them to get back that level of support while trying to fight the 60 million PS4s that are already sold.
Maybe Square Enix did not see a Switch or 3DS port as worth it? None of us know, but I can say this. Third-Parties are not loyal to anyone. They go to where the money flows, and for several generations the safest bet as been Sony's systems.
I get why some people are unhappy. Truth be told, I'm bummed out that I'll never get to play Street Fighter V. But you know what, my fighting game money will go to Warner Brothers and Namco who did bring Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 to the Xbox One.
Rather than focusing on one game that the Switch is not getting, why not look at the stuff Square Enix is putting out on it?
@AirElephant Do you care to post any proof of this or are you just making stuff up?
"the near-dead PS Vita is getting a release." The Vita is very much alive and doing well in Japan. This remake doesn't look like something that would run well on 3DS, so they probably struck a deal with Sony first to get it out on their systems first, but i would definitely say this is coming to Switch at some point.
LAME
I think this sucks! Sony must be fronting money to these developers. That's the only thing I can think of! It doesn't make sense not to put that game on every system.
Those who are saying who cares, your jealous and not thinking clearly. Most of you would buy this with excitement if it came to the Switch.
I've never played the original game (I promise it's on my bucket list!), but IMO the sprites and art from the original look much better than this. I suspect this remake won't age as well.
I'd rather buy a ps vita than a Switch. Maybe I should do some shopping!
Just give us the darn collection and we'll say no more on the matter.
Glad I got a PS4 for my birthday, but this along with Adventures of Mana (which I have on PSTV) belong on Switch. They really do.
What I'd REALLY like to see is a collection of the original games AND the 3D remakes of Seiken Densetsu 1 & 2 (and maybe 3 while they're at it!) on the same cart! That really would be a sort of ultimate collection for the original trio of games.
I have the Japanese SD Collection, and I love playing them, but despite stellar emulation and nice menus, it's a really barebones package and I'd love to have a bit more content on that cart.
Wow, my heart literally hit the floor, and I usually don't get that bent out of shape, save for Capcom's shenanigans. I guess SE has just made their mind up that Nintendo systems, save for DQ, now and going forward, are no longer going to get certain core franchises. Or if we do (Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition), it will be the "one off" edition. Not the end of the world, but this is still very, very unfortunate for the Switch.
Please sign this petition to have the SD collection localized. I would much rather have the collection then this budget 3D remake.
https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/bring-seiken-densetsu-collection-to-the-united
@MegaTen I have no "conspiracy theory" regarding companies hating Nintendo. I also don't believe that companies owe Nintendo system owners anything; but this doesn't make sense.
Sometimes it's an issue with the Switch's guts not being able to handle a very complex game but it's not like the Switch couldn't handle this game.
The PS Vita is dead even in its biggest market (Japan), yet Mana 3D is being ported to that system...lol
Ha! Classic Squeenix
@Yorumi Square Enix in general makes no sense. They have so many games on certain consoles, and it's never consistent. Take Kingdom Hearts for example: most of the main games are on Playstation but most of the spin offs are on Nintendo handhelds.
This remake just makes what was a gorgeous game look ugly.
This was the most beautiful game of its time. By then the gameplay was decent, made specially interesting by local multiplayer. Local multiplayer was uncommon and very fresh at the time.
Today this gameplay is too bland, even with the multiplayer factor. To make justice to this classic, the gameplay should be improved. That will not happen. Although possible, they don't know how to do that. So much missed opportunity, unfortunately.
Still, the music, and simple 3d graphics looks very pretty to me. So this game is a pretty experience with relaxed gameplay.
As of why this is not on N Switch, in my opinion it is likely that it will be announced later. This game feels wrong on anything other than Nintendo.
Loving the conspiracy theories going around despite the fact that Square Enix is arguably the Switch's biggest third party supporter, and will unquestionably be so once we get some damn localization announcements.
This seems like a no brainer to port this to the switch. I do wonder if this will support crossplay between the Vita and PS4. That would be very enticing indeed.
It's likely just another console timed-exclusive. Sony likes to throw out $$ to pubs for games and content to be "First on PlayStation" - they've been notorious for this in this generation. It'll get a Switch port 6 months to a year down the road.
@Caryslan I completely agree with you on the Wii U. But look at the success of the Switch! Isn't that enough proof of a console being great to put games on? Third parties are not obliged for loyalty but when you're game is a perfect game for that same company (i.e Nintendo) then you've got to do so. Else you won't make profit. Secret of Mana is a lot like an indie title (which it's not, I know, but it looks like one) and also is the perfect fit for the Switch. It can even handle the graphics easily. This isn't a Frostbyte game. This is Secret of Mana. And should be on Switch. Not just because of loyalty but because the Switch is an indie haven. And games like Secret of Mana will sell the most on Switch than anywhere.
@UmniKnight Exactly. Pretty sad to see that people care more about their wallets than customer satisfaction. As a Business student, I know what that leads too. If you care more about your wallet (which Square Enix is doing) then you're games may be loved at first, but later on in the long run due to low customer satisfaction people stop buying your products and then soon either are hated (EA) or go bankrupt (Hopefully EA).
@Caryslan And while you're talking about sales and failed consoles then why the hell is this game on PS Vita??? I mean, ROFL, this game is not on the Switch (a rising console) but on a Vita? (A complete joke of a portable which is also weaker than the Switch? Being on a Vita won't help at all. And That's a fact. So then why not Switch? Or at least why not on 3DS? These are consoles that are great for games like Secret of Mana.
Actually, I kinda see where Square Enix is going with this. Think about it. If the player really wants to have this game on the big screen and on the go, right now it seems they will need to get the game twice. Twice the sale, twice the profit.
On the other hand, releasing it on Switch, some players would get both experiences, handeld and home for the price of one.
@GrailUK if you've seen the original SNES instruction manual, you'll probably wish the remake was done in claymation. Those models were gorgeous.
@SomeWriter13 Ow, I own the original and, well...you need to stop what you are doing and go to Square hq and demand this to happen. GO! NOW!
@bitleman
What a load of BS you spout, many salty ppl on here like yourself, if it's coming to vita so what, which still has a dedicated userbase worldwide, just check other sites, many are buying it on vita, ppl on here are acting like it's their God given right to have the game just because they bought a switch, can't have every game, it won't happen, maybe switch owners will get that gimped FF XV pocket version
@Tsurii
Me too.
I only love Sony until ps2 era.
Starting ps3 era, Sony became worse.
And now, Sony become even Sinister to keep 3rd party developers stay away from Nintendo. I guess Sony behind this case, bribe some 3rd parties, lecture them to hate Nintendo. What a dirty tricks from Sony...
I don't even like Secret of Mana, but wtf is up with all these Nintendo released games skipping Nintendo consoles? Seriously!
I'll get it on the Vita. If Adventures of Mana was any indication, I think it'll be great.
Another remake skipping the system that it would sell the most on. What in the hell is wrong with these companies?! These games should be a no-brainer for Switch.
Think Sony is afraid about Switch's potential, including having 2 controllers for instant local play that would make this remake an instant buy for many. It is also a very Japanese game, which Nintendo is really Sony's only competition in. There's really nothing besides Sony that would prevent this game from coming to Switch, especially if Vita is getting it.
I still think it's Sony that caused Switch to not get MHW since that too is a very Japanese game.
@IPrino
Their brains musta got sucked out by evil aliens.
I'll get it on the PC just to spite the Vita and Vita lovers lol.
@BinaryFragger
Sure, it's available, but if you don't speak Japanese, you're screwed.
Well I still use my VITA (God Wars was awesome on the Vita). The switch just does not have enough games yet to replace it 100%... Another for the collection, It just wont die 😂
@BinaryFragger
Most sensible comment on here, the guy that was in charge of bringing adventures of Mana to vita made a statement just after its release that he would like to do a secret of Mana remake for vita, and that's long before the rumoured NX became switch. Many on here are just salty, so many ridiculous comments, one of the best is, I am buying it on steam to spite vita lovers, yep it speaks volumes, it won't bother vita owners because they will have a choice to buy it or not, although many will, like you said it has a fantastic attach rate. I was reading comments the other day on a site, it was a recent interview with a few different indie devs, asking them why they still release games on vita, the replys were all similar saying that there games sell really well on vita and one explained further that they released their game on ps4/vita at same time and the vita version sold a lot more though it has a much smaller userbase, says it all really. Anyways I won't be buying the Mana game though I have choice if I change my mind. Yep i have a vita but also Nintendo hardware, I have no preferances, just a guy that likes games whichever machine they are on
I wish the GBA and DS SquareSoft games had come to Wii U VC, but it seems like they're opposed to only making some money when they would rather make a lot more money by releasing games on PS4.
Is it cool if I cram every single swear word in existence that has ever been known to mankind across all languages spoken by man, woman or child of every age, ethnicity, nationality and religious belief or lack thereof, as sung by a bleeding-eyed Cthulhu on the day of the end of everything that has ever been in a single comment?
I mean, the original was a SNES game, and this announcement came out right after our dog's chain was yanked by that Final Fantasy XV Switch tease for crying out loud.
I don't care about this game, WHAT WOULD BE GREAT THOUGH is if they remade or ACTUALLY MAKE THE LONG AWAITED SEQUEL to Threads of Fate. It can be exclusive to any console for all I care.
@AlexSora89
Ugh...
I said Sayonara to FF XV completely after I knew there were some "Unacceptable" contents as DLC. I will never ever want to play FF XV Completely. I just abandon its existence. FF XV is just Absolutely Wrong 100% as Final Fantasy games, even worst than FF XIII. And that's why I play Miitopia instead, Way Much better than Boring Ultra HD Realistic RPG games.
@Yasaal True, for as much as business is business and one can argue that emotion has no part in it, people buy with their hearts. If they buy a Switch, seeing the MH trend, expecting MH to appear on the system, and then Capcom throws them a rock, and tells them to go play tennis with it, they'll remember that.
Sighs!! Why SE? You said you were supporting the Switch.
@Iggy-Koopa I think the same. The writing is clearly on the wall and if u paid attention u can see how Sony is screwing both MS and Nintendo. Sony wants the Japanese market but fear not Nintendo will reign. They still have two big asess on their sleeve; Pokemon and Animal Crossing. Is just a matter of time.
I love how entitled gamers have become these days....
Square Enix games on Switch:
Dragon Quest X
Dragon Quest XI
Dragon Quest Heroes 1+2
Dragon Quest Builders 2
I am Setsuna
Lost Sphear
Project Octopath Traveler
Fear Effect Remastered
Seiken Densetsu Collection
Some form of FFXV, as hinted by Tabata
The company is clearly invested in the Switch, so anyone who thinks otherwise clearly hasn't followed their Switch announcements. Making Secret of Mana 3D a Sony console exclusive runs against their current software strategy for the Japanese market.
This should be a criminal offense.
@Caryslan
You mean the fact that Sony bought nearly 20% of Square back in 2001?
https://web.archive.org/web/20131228055840/http://m.ign.com/articles/2001/10/08/sony-buys-stake-in-square-2
That made them the second largest shareholder at the time. I don't know how much they own now, but it's hardly surprising that Sony platforms (including the nearly defunct Vita) are the only supported consoles. Steam has never been and will never be a competitor to consoles.
Enough or should I spend another ten seconds--time you could have spent as well--doing the research you're too lazy to do?
You're crying like babies. Switch can't have all games in the world. And no, Square Enix is not against Nintendo, my god. Bravely Default/Second, Dragon Quest games (many of them), Kingdom Hearts, Theatrhythm games, I Am Setsuna, Lost Sphear, Seiken Densetsu Collection...yeah, they hate Nintendo fanbase, so they decided to put like 20 games on Nintendo consoles in last 5 years xD
Give some thought before posting guys. Even if Sony didn't pay them to not release this game on Switch (and I think they did not), they have every right to not release it on Switch.
PS. Remake's graphics is terrible. Looks even worse than this Zelda clone, Oceanhorn, and that's something.
PS2. Vita's not dead, especially in Japan.
@AirElephant Sony sold back their shares though.
@BinaryFragger The Bayonetta 2 situation is completely different from this remake situation. Both Sony and MS didn't want to fork any support to get Bayonetta 2 on its feet, and their fanbases plugged their ears regarding it. Instead, the fanbases blamed Nintendo for taking it away when Nintendo is the one that saved it from extinction. To say it is similar is like trying to say that SE didn't have the means to fund the remake, and Sony footed the bill. We all know that is not the case.
@Elanczewski I would say though that if the SD collection was localized, this wouldn't be as much of a problem. I had waited for SoM to come to Wii U's NA VC (among other VC from SE), but it never came. Now while I can technically get it on Switch as well as the other two games, I don't know Japanese to be able to follow along.
@Discostew Point for you, I'm interested in this collection too, but I'm surprised by these "Sqare Enix is bad and doesn't like Nintendo" attitude in many posts. Yeah, maybe they doesn't (and they doesn't have to, it's business), but they already proved that they're supporting the Switch all the way. I borrow this list of games from @westman98's post (thanks!): Dragon Quest X, Dragon Quest XI, Dragon Quest Heroes 1+2, Dragon Quest Builders 2, I am Setsuna, Lost Sphear, Project Octopath Traveler, Fear Effect Remastered, Seiken Densetsu Collection, Some form of FFXV, as hinted by Tabata. Quite a list.
So glad I've moved on from being a Nintendo only console owner.
@Elanczewski SE is indeed giving a lot of support to the Switch (far more than the Wii U ever got), which is why I find it odd that the SoM remake isn't coming to it and the collection isn't localized. One can't expect everything of course, but I just don't see the logic behind this decision when Switch is truly perfect for it.
Its on the Vita?!
Whatever you did Sony, well played. It'll be a shame not to see this local co-op game on the Switch.
PS4? Fine
PS Vita? LOL!
@Anti-Matter
You mean the Assassin's Festival crossover DLC?
"My name is Noctis Auditore da Firenzokyo!"
That is comedy gold.
(The line, in case you're wondering, has been made up for the comment alone.)
@TubbaBlubba
It's the same kind of sorcery behind the Chinatown Wars case.
The DS was successful enough to allow one exception for GTA's "no Nintendo platforms" rule (GTA Advance doesn't count, I'm talking about non-top down GTAs here), which was GTA Chinatown Wars.
The DS was slaughtering the PSP at the time and still somehow Chinatown Wars got a PSP port for whatever reason.
I think the same bribesorcery (sorcebribery?) is also behind this. No Switch, but Vita gets this as its swan song? How is this "fair"?
@AlexSora89
Exactly.
That DLC Completely tainted the whole impression about FF XV for me.
Oh my, anyone seen the collectors edition on Japan Square Enix site!!??
@AirElephant Before you lecture me about doing some research, you might want to check facts yourself.
You are correct about Sony buying a 20% stake in Square Soft back in 2001.
But in 2014, Sony sold all of its shares in Square Enix, which means they no longer own any shares in the company.
Here is the link if you want to read it.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/04/16/sony-to-sell-its-shares-in-square-enix
So yes, Sony at one point was a share holder in Square Soft which transfered to Square Enix after Square and Enix merged. But as this article states, Sony sold off their shares back in 2014 to a firm called SMBC Nikko Securities.
And if some reason my link does not work, just google "does Sony own shares of Square Enix" and you should get the same results I did. I linked to the IGN link, but there are others.
@Tempestryke thanks for the comment keyboard warrior.
@Tempestryke my fault i read the comment wrong. My apologies and i agree
I don't know why some people are getting really salty over this, so what it's not coming on an Nintendo console, they're other games to worry about then this. And making dubious conspiracies isn't really helping, 3rd parties have the right to choose which platform they want to release their games on, that's why they're obviously called 3rd parties.
@IPrino
Why your most welcome fellow keyboard warrior hoists display sword in the air
I'm excited to get a remake, even on PS4. If they bring the Vita version over to the U.S. too, i'll double-dip. It'll go well with my Mana 1 remake.
All i'll say about "no Switch version" is that having more than one system is more important than ever if you don't game on PC. I learned that last gen, and the sooner the rest of you do, the better.
This remake looks rather sweet imo, I loved playing Ever Oasis so I would think that. I don't like the doom and gloom attitude so many have towards Square Enix however, for not releasing it in Switch as of yet, and completely hating on the visual style of it as a result. Please, keep an open mind. <3
@Neopolss Do you honestly think so? These shovelware games you play must look great.
Didn't care for the original, going to have to see more of the action if they want to sell me on this.
Damn NL, no need to get salty about the Vita. Time will tell if there's an eventual port or not.
Good news for fans of the series regardless.
@EDF Lol nice joke about the dedicated vita userbase. This thing is dead. When was the last time a vita game sold well? Even the wiiu sold more games. Sony's policy with the vita was disgusting. They bought so much japanese exclusivities just to get them away from the 3ds like all those games that targeted the Monster Hunter audience. The results were bad sales for this games and development team closing. Such a shame sony is ready to destroy the japanese industry just to hurt nintendo.
What a disgrace.
I bet it comes to iOS also. The remake of the legend of mana did.
Obviously one of my favourite games ever...and I'll buy it regardless of platform. Still a Switch version would have been nice...
@bitleman
Like i said BS about destroying Japanese market, tbh vita still sells and gets games, so yeah not dead just yet, as for software sales, who knows, most vita games are digital only, also if it was dead like u say then it shouldn't be getting SOM but it is, also the excellent Undertale last week. Your kidding yourself if you think it doesn't have a dedicated userbase worldwide, yep it's not the biggest but it's more than enough for Japanese and indie games to turn a profit and that's what counts. Going back to your wii u vita comparison, Sony published 64 games for it, a lot more than Nintendo did for wii u, OK they don't make games for it no more but they certainly fund projects or buy exclusivity for new games to vita, much more than Nintendo are doing with wii u, for vita fans this can only be a good thing. For myself if I want to dig out my Vita to play a new game then I will and same for Nintendo hardware I own, variety is the spice of life, best not to put all eggs in one basket especially Nintendo hardware. This is a Nintendo site, look back over the comments and you will notice vita owners having a say, then check Sony sites and there you have it, a vita userbase regardless if you like it or not. Have to agree with you that it was a disgrace how they treated the vita and its userbase, can't understand why they push PSVR and not vita when it has clearly sold more than VR. Yep vita probably has a few years left thanks to cross buy and remoteplay plus Japanese and indie games but at about 10 thousand units worldwide each week don't sound great but devs don't have to sell their games in the millions to turn a profit
@EDF I mostly agree with you but I keep thinking bribing a large part of the japanese industry just to hurt the competition and then trash out this part of the industry because you're successful with the PS4 and won't release another handheld is shameful and will destroy a large part of the japanese industry who couldn't profit from the 3DS momentum and have zero fanbase now the vita is dead.
If it were on the Switch I'd have bought 2 copies, one to play and one to keep sealed + any collectors edition.. instead.. I'll be giving it a miss. Nostalgia runs deep.. but it's not easily swayed.. games like this and / or in the future Chrono Trigger, should ideally be Switch exclusives.
What a terrible click bait article.
Maybe Sony is actually publishing this game themselves like Nintendo did with "Bayonetta 2"? That would explain both why Sony is announcing the game and the strange release choices. I don't know why an industry giant like Square Enix would need Sony to publish it for them, but it's only reason I can think of that makes sense.
@bitleman
From what i recall, 3ds got lots of Japanese games, OK it didn't get as many as vita but tbh having played many Japanese niche games on my Vita you should be happy 3ds didn't get them all, many were poor efforts. Recently switch has had some announcements that Japanese games are coming to switch, OK they won't be all localised but more and more will be announced. Take DQ builders 2 for example and it isn't coming to vita, same with Fear Effect remake, not that vita fans will mind they have OG fear Effect 1&2 they can download on psn. Sony won't get everything, switch will have its share just like 3ds, I expect a few FF and MH games will come, maybe a new Mana game plus loads of Tecmo games plus NIS ones, the list is endless but some of them you will wish you hadn't bought like myself, most of the visual novels are rubbish with a few exceptions, better off with the Telltale novels, much better than Japanese ones
Well that's unfortunate. But something tells me that this games is only a timed exclusive on Sony devices.
I love a good "waaaah, we've been jilted by third-parties" thread on Nintendo Life. They always make for excellent viewing.
People crying about 'loyalty', seemingly unable to understand it's about money.
Nintendo-only players complaining about not getting games when to play all third-party games you've needed more than a Nintendo machine since the SNES era.
People complaining about games coming to other systems rather than owning those systems.
Conspiracy theories about 'bribes' when in fact, if that's what's happening, Nintendo are perfectly capable of incentivising development on their machines as well.
Solid gold.
@BinaryFragger
"If you only own one console, you'll miss out on certain games. It's nothing new either, because I remember missing out on Sega exclusives as a kid because I only owned Nintendo consoles. I also didn't scream and call for the company's bankruptcy like the people here when my console didn't get a game I wanted".
Yes! Somebody else who has a functioning memory and a grasp of reality.
@electrolite77 Ye, we can't really blame SE for punting an old franchise towards a combined player base of about 120 million. Give the Switch a couple more years, and I am sure we all will be surprised at what people throw at it
Yeah, I'll still play it on my mini. And if we could get the EU release of the collection I'd be more than pleased. I get the same feeling from this as the one with all new "remakes" of FF-games on smartphone. - A bit hollow.
@electrolite77 The vita having thousands of games with a market this small makes no sense. It was just sony bribing left and right as always.
Yes everyone buy exclusives. Problem is when Sony do it they do it a lot because they are much bigger than competitors. And it can lead to bad effect. Like at the end of life of the PS2, it had a monopoly de facto and lot of development teams of great games were dismissed because when you failed on the PS2 you had no other option of a viable market. Sony don't just want to sell well, they also want the competition to sell bad and not be able to offer another market for developers, which is my main problem with them. When Nintendo tried to get a monopoly during the nes days they were called out which was totally normal. You'll never see Sony getting called out because they are too powerful and hold the industry.
But it's pointless to explain that because people will always eat the narrative of the highest marketing budget.
I almost finished the game on Wii Virtual Console but the combat system really gets on my nerves.
Slash, wait... slash - maybe they'll change this?
Square has something stuck up their butts. They are missing huge potential in sales...
@garthvader
Huge potential in sales, switch has a smaller userbase than any system out there, SOM coming to Sony machines with a massive userbase combined never mind just on ps4, the potential is far higher for sales, it's a business, can't blame square for doing this, besides i think it's great that's it's coming to vita and not switch, it shows just how ridiculous and pathetic ppl are on this community, massive amount of cry babies, far worse than any other site
@bitleman
Just wonder.
If I am a Game Developer, can I just Refuse to be Monopolized by Sony even though I know the consequences (money loss, not contracted by Sony anymore, etc) ?
Sometimes it's not all about money. We have to try to Fight against Money Politic. Is that possible ?
@EDF
I would rather KILL that Sony userbase if I become a Game Developer.
I will give the RIGHT choice (Give it to Nintendo), not driven by Sony's Money politics or Wrong Massive userbase.Sometimes I Hate Market's choice.
Just my opinion.
Honestly i don't like the look. When i got a message on Steam i could preorder this i took a look and decided against it.
Would have preferred the old style but with higher resolution.
@Anti-Matter
Hmm you would rather KILL Sony userbase. I always thought you was a idiot, thx for staying faithful, what a pathetic statement
@EDF
Not a pathetic at all.
It called it a Revenge.
@Anti-Matter
My God man, revenge by killing, it's just games, man your unhinged, pointless talking to you, you need to take your head out of nintendo's backside and live in the real world
@EDF
Noo..
I don't mean Killing by directly stabbing at the people.
I mean "Killing" by give the games to Nintendo user base.
@EDF The problem isn't the game to be released on the PS4. The problem is the game not being released on other systems for no other reason than Sony bribing and limiting its sales potential.
Vita for me. FF IV DS is the definitive version of that game, imo, and this feels like it's taking a similar course.
@BinaryFragger
Yeah, very similar situation, I noticed some of them are the same ppl on here crying, I must say i thought SOM would have been multiplatform, but users shouldn't put all eggs in a switch basket, afterall it's the norm when buying Ninty hardware, i have no sympathy for them, they know the score when buying hardware,
Is this getting a physical release on ps4, and vita or digital only?
wait we got a rainway app totally can be on the switch lol
@EDF I don't ask for your sympathy, just you to have a brain. But it looks like it was still too much asking. You can put your hands on your ears and call me a switch fanboy but I don't even own one. I was just explaining how the sony's policy behind this is despicable and harmful for everyone. I just say your tears will be delicious when japanese studios will start closing left and right just as it happened at the end of PS2's life.
@bitleman
Stop exaggerating, you don't have a clue what your talking about, this game is nothing to do with Sony. It's just square releasing a game on their machines just like when square release games on Nintendo hardware only, that's what Square have been doing a long time, yes Sony get exclusive games but no different from nintendo getting 3rd party exclusives like Bayonetta 2, they paid for it. Seems to me your eyes are very closed if you think the Japanese market will basically close, your out of your head to even think that, neolithic neanderthal way of thinking. Many cry babies on this article but your the only one screaming this Japan is dead BS because of Sony. Yep over 20 million 3Ds sold, ps3 over 10 million, ps4 and vita over 5 million sold so far and ps4 is on track to beat ps3 sales, switch already over 1 million and will reach 15 plus million, shed loads of software sold on all platforms, yep Japanese market is dead or dying, yeah right. As for development teams shuting down, well that happens all the time worldwide, gaming industry is still here though, also new developers are always coming into the fold, gaming is in a good place right now, Japan is doomed lol
@Anti-Matter wow.
Not shocked, Square Enix isn't exactly pouring support on to the Switch right now. I'm sure they are waiting on a certain install base that's going to take awhile since Nintendo only manufactures about 5 Switches a day.
@EDF Nintendo paid Bayonetta 2 to be made, Sony paid to not let SOM get released on other consoles with better momentum than the vita. Big difference. If Sony paid for SOM to be made then it wouldn't be released on PC and there would be zero problem.
And yes japanese market is collapsing. Learn to read trends through years instead of claiming random numbers with zero comparison with the past.
I still think we will be getting a NES Mini and SNES Classic cartridges for Switch, or at the very least a VC that day 1 has all 51 games from the 2 on it and if that is the case, why do a remake?
I'm waiting on a direct from Nintendo that will clear up some of these ongoing mysteries and give a glimps into 2018......until then I'm reserving my judgment on most stories.
@bitleman
Your a fool, the random numbers I so called claim are latest mediacreate sales and you don't get any more accurate than those guys, there is no proof that Sony paid to not have it on switch, which is more BS your spouting, just a salty answer from a ill-informed crybaby. Yes I watch trends and Japan is doing just fine, some devs may shutdown, new ones will take their place, haven't seen any major Japanese studios dissappear in this apocalyptic gaming world your head lives in, let's say it's true and Japan crashes like you would have us all believe, then Nintendo might aswell stop production right now because bitleman the bsman has prophosised the end and its all Sony's fault. Tell me how can or is there any point in the switch having momentum as you put it, if the end is nigh. It's great to see you so salty about SOM coming to vita, hope it gets many more games like this just so i can be entertained by the ridiculous cry babies on here, makes for great reading
Maybe in the future.
@Gerbwmu
Same question with Final Fantasy III on NES and Final Fantasy III Remake on NDS.
FF III NDS looks much better than NES version, and also some changes.
Obviously sony paid square enix off. Vita support but no switch?. The graphics would have been perfect fit for switch. Not too bothered though i m getting my classic snes. Hope this is the only exclusive??? (Looking at you localising dragons quest.. dont be like mhxx) We are getting lost sphear final fantasy and fear effect remake.
Ohh, i know, i know, its TurboGrafix 16 isn't it? Bummer. Always misses the good games.
@Joelols No amount of money from sony makes vita attractive. And sony spends no money on it.
Ps4 is a whole other thing though.
I can say I'm interested. I quite like the cute art style that still holds that classic charm. It looks nice visually, but you can tell it's a remake of an older game, and I think that's a good thing.
@EDF The most bizarre thing is you keep calling me a nintendo fanboy when I'm the first to claim the switch is the last nintendo system and they are getting crushed by the competition because they are to weak to compete at this point. You're the only blind fanboy here claiming a company is perfect and cannot do wrong. And that you only defend vita games so it can fit in your console warrior narrative (which say a lot about the value of the reviews scores vita games get if you're representative of vita fanboys). It's just sad at this point you may have mental problems.
Oh and by the way last year according to mediacrate less than 5 millions consoles have been sold in Japan. This is their lowest score ever recorded. But keep living in your bubble of consoles warrior I'll enjoy your tears in the end.
A lot of tears...unsurprisingly. It's fine.
@McHaggis I can't thank you enough for sharing that link. I bookmarked it lol.
What can be said about SquEnix after that? Good luck. You'll have to make a lot better to get my money from now on.
@bitleman
I would say it wasn't a great year for hardware sales in Japan last year, no surprise there what with wii u been a flop, vita not catching on like psp, 3ds coming to a end, ps4 been a home console, they prefer handhelds. This year won't do much better but next year will be up thx to switch, swings and roundabouts. Yes i own Sony hardware but also Nintendo hardware, as for Sony not doing any wrong, they have done plenty things that rub me up the wrong way, same with Nintendo. Would you like to explain further with the Last Nintendo hardware comment, the crushed theory is just dumb, looks like 3ds crushed vita to me worldwide and ps4 in Japan plus the switch should pass both machines overthere sometime next year. OK i wouldn't care if Sony discontinued vita as of today, i ain't blind enough to see that it's down but not out just yet, i defended it because you keep whining that it's dead, wouldn't mind if it was but it's still selling and still getting games for me that's the opposite to dead, not my fault you have a different meaning in your head for the word dead, that's different from the dictionary. Like I said your the only one ranting about this apocalyptic doom for gaming in general. Like yourself i don't own a switch and maybe never will, haven't made my mind up, waiting to see what games it gets, bought a vita for Japanese niche games, it didn't let me down, Wii u was a complete let down for me apart from xeno and Pikmin, it's made me weary about Nintendo hardware, that's why i didn't buy day 1 for first time ever. Tbh i wouldn't care if gaming world imploded, it's OK to play games but i have otherthings going on like working, going out with the wife visiting places, gaming ain't a priority for me unlike some, most of the time my hardware is collecting dust. Almost forgot, what the hell has review scores got to do with all this, like any machine they all have goo and bad reviews, can't see the relevance in this though
@bitleman
You don't get to lecture anybody about figures. I've already discovered your knowledge of the gaming industry is woeful.
And as for this....
" It's just sad at this point you may have mental problems."
....even by your standards, quite pathetic. Grow up.
@electrolite77 lol you tell me to grow up while I'm waiting your usual argument that nintendo is a magical candies factory with an infinite wallet and they can't fail.
Everything they made from the last 3 years scream money problems but keep living in your bubble.
@bitleman
Straw man...lack of knowledge...over and over...
@626b The XBOX isn't dead in Japan; it never even got out of the womb.
@Anti-Matter
To me, instead, it was hilarious.
Also, crossover DLC that implements the other franchise's gameplay? This is the kind of weird stuff that I absolutely love. Ever heard of Ryu in Capcom's other title, Asura's Wrath?
That's just plain cool.
@Pigeon
Whoa, someone on NL explicitly calling me a moron? That's a first, but I can give away that impression.
That said, I used "bribe" as a deliberately pejorative term for what's really at work - a contract.
Sony must have had some sort of exclusivity contract with several of the companies that do release stuff on Nintendo platforms, such as Rockstar and Square. Hence the lack of actual (read: numbered) Final Fantasy games on 3DS and, in Rockstar's case, a superior number of releases on a system that got its backside handed to it back in the day during its one-sided fight against the DS.
@AlexSora89
I NEVER called every single inappropriate things is a cool things. NEVER !
They are simply Absolutely disgusting, Instant Hate from me, Instant Condemn from me.
Oh, just now you made me BAN that game due to inappropriate content. Too late, I had put it on my Black list, the list of my Hatred things.
And please, next time don't show me any inappropriate contents because I have ZERO Tolerance with every single Mature theme. I Don't even want to know at all. When I accidentally know, those titles immediately I put them on my Black list, I condemn them straightly.
I have Tons of Hatred things in the world and that made me very Cautious. And that's why I am an Extreme pickier. The Disgust & Anger (Inside Out - Disney Pixar) are on duty inside my brain all the time, and made me so picky about the things in the world.
@EDF Smaller user base ONLY because it has been out for under a year but the POTENTIAL user base is quite large. They are missing the boat. Square has a stick up their butt and they have since the 2000's. I have been playing Square games since the NES and it has been since SNES and PS1 that they have truly released something great. If they remove the stick, they may do something worthwhile for once.
It's annoying when people say the Vita is dead. Isn't the 3DS dead too, now that the Switch is out? People are claiming it is. No system is officially 'dead' until absolutely no more games are coming out for it.
Quite surprised it's not coming to Nintendo Switch hopefully will at a later date as Square Enix usually brings their Snes RPG 3D remakes to Nintendo handhelds Final Fantasy 3&4 as examples on original DS so thought 💭 this would be a perfect fit on Switch oh well 😔
Looks like it's Garumin for 3DS then. A great looking mana type of game with loads of charm.
@Anti-Matter
I wonder how your green and red little guys (yes, the Inside Out reference was not lost on yours truly) reacted to Hatred. Remember Hatred?
Wait, actually, don't tell me.
@AlexSora89
Anger will take over my body !
Completely Aggresive toward that game you showed to me.
Oh, please. Don't even show me any Damn adult games, I will put them on my Black list, I will let Anger take over my body Aggresively. Because I HATE them.
@AlexSora89 lol
@Anti-Matter
Just don't let the sixth emotion take over.
@MariOnline
If you're laughing at my apocalyptic swear, I blame everything on Jerry Holkins' avatar - Tycho Brahe - on Penny Arcade, and his outlandish ramblings.

@Elanczewski
You do have a point. I think its because people are still stung over Capcom's decisions not to release the Disney Afternoon and MML2 Collections on Nintendo hardware and let's face it, Secret of Mana is a fairly popular SNES game, so the decision seems a bit baffling.
Gonna mirror folks who wanted the Mana Collection localized. I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this remake.
