Back in August it was announced that the rather excellent Blasphemous would be getting another (and final) free DLC expansion titled 'Wounds of Eventide', while Blasphemous II is in development for 2023. Though it's a crowded genre on the eShop, this writer's view is that it's a standout Metroidvania / Souls-like / insert-iffy-comparison-here game from developer The Game Kitchen, so the prospect of more is rather pleasing.
As confirmed by publisher Team17 as part of a sizzle reel from the 2021 Golden Joystick Awards, the final update arrives on all platforms on 9th December, so we don't have long to wait to see what it's all about. Details are still thin on the ground beyond an initial tease that "His end was just the beginning", along with some new footage in the video. It looks like a setting that could be a dried out sea, and there are clips of impressive boss battles - including a giant snake that looks particularly deadly.

We suspect more will be revealed in the run-up to its release, and it's certainly impressive how much content has been added to this game post-launch, for free no less.
Let us know in the comments if you're planning to get back into Blasphemous for the update, or perhaps if it's on your wishlist and looking extra tempting with the new content on the way.

I still need to finish the base game. It's just really hard.
I am currently at the last boss of the base game. A really nice game! I bought the LRG copy and the Deluxe copy. If they release another one with that DLC on the cart I will buy that as well!
Excellent news. I'll be there for it.
@moodycat @Grandiajet you can do it! I believe in you.
Awesome - picked this up at the weekend and really enjoying Blasphemous' atmosphere. Looking forward to the DLC.
Timely article since I just bought this from BestBuy.
Love that game, and still need to play the second DLC, finished the original game after getting the Limited Run physical.
Looks fun, will definitely go back to it after i have thinned out my backlog
@moodycat Bah, you don't need to apologize for wanting something easier or less stressful. I wish more games had that. It doesn't take away from the base game or people who want to play it that way, but some of us don't have the time to 'git gud' and just want to play a game and forget about the world for a few minutes. So totally feel you on wanting that option.
Wish games had more accessibility modes like Hades, Celeste. Sometimes you just want to fly through something and feel overpowered. Other-times you want the challenge. There's room in gaming for both.
Glad I'm not alone in enjoying Blasphemous plenty but finding it really hard! Want to get deeper into it but am just stuck, shamefully early on and not even on a tricky boss either, just generic enemies I can't handle.
Developers churning out lots of quality free updates for a game just because they want to is always heartwarming though, and I'm very happy for the much more accomplished gamers out there who will get to horribly disembowel even more gross monsters than I ever will.
I played this game for the first time a couple of months ago and loved every second of it. I can’t wait for the upcoming DLC.
Lets hope it isn't locked behind a much harder second playthrough this time. For the last update's content you had to give up your hard-earned save-file and play the whole game from the start at a much harder difficulty. So I didn't bother.
Played it earlier in the year and had a blast! Can't recommend it enough.
What a fantastic game. I played it on PC and I liked it so much I got it also ob Switch, and I was waiting for this DLC to arrive to replay it lol, the wait will finish soon.
I really really recommend this game to anyone that likes Castlevanias. It's tough, but really rewarding. And not as hard as Ender Lillies imo, for example.
Can't wait
Absolutely love this game.
I didn't find it hard though, challenging yes but definitely not hard.
Maybe it was because I played a lot of games in the early 80's arcades that were as hard as nails to play let alone beat.
Is that why I'm bald?
Been pulling my hair out since the 80's, that explains a lot.
😜
Still have to open the first release and second release game I bought.....
@moodycat ya it’s pretty hard, I don’t mind the difficulty as long as there is a rewind button.
I cannot wait for this DLC.
@moodycat
I would recommend to analyze which specific places in the game are resulting more difficult than usual, and then take a look at how others might encounter or tackle those areas, playthrough on YouTube or Twitch are great places for that.
Sometimes it can be a very simple thing as ignoring certain skills and powers. Or misunderstanding the purpose of certain power ups.
By observing how others play will often result in that "Aha" moment and save you lots of frustration.
Don't give on it, you can do it!
@moodycat Don't be embarrassed. Soulslike games are not designed to be beaten by everyone or casual players. Analyzing everything and using patience with every single enemy is key. As long as you go in with the idea that anything, no matter how insignificant it seems, can and will kill you if you don't treat it with respect. Only after that can you enjoy the game.
