It's Official, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Is Launching On Nintendo Switch This September

This was the best announcement by far. Can’t wait for September to come!

Absolute megaton. I loved the Direct but even if this was the only thing on it, I would be content. And it's coming out soon, too.

Now I'm three entries behind in this series.

XC3 being the final announcement and there being NO Zelda info really saved this Direct for me.

I'm not sure how I feel about them smashing Xeno 1's world with Xeno 2 here but I'm definitely excited to see where the story goes after Future Connected.

Saved the show for me. I was kinda fading in and out until this. But wow, looks great. I'm currently playing thru xc2.

The scene of the hill at the end gave me major Xenoblade Chronicles 1 vibes, I hope that is intentional because that game was amazing, haven't played 2 but Chronicles 1 is my favorite out of those I have played.

YES! I knew it had to be coming soon! Xenoblade's my favorite series ever and I can't wait to play this one! I'm really interested in figuring out what's going on plot-wise, there's a ton to take in here. I like that it kind of looks like a blend of all three previous Xenoblades stylistically.

This is the highlight of the direct for me. I've played all the Xenoblade games up to this point and it's my favorite RPG series ever. So glad to see it continue.

You can briefly see that the POV Gormotti has a flesh/blade eater core crystal, and we see Nia later in the tailer. How awesome would it be if you are playing as one of Nia’s blades? It explains how similar they look given blades take on the characteristics of their drivers.

We see high Entai, and I’m pretty sure I heard Jenna Coleman, which is consistent with her possible “leak”. When asked about the add-on for the Xenoblades Remaster, she said she thought she was recoding for a new game, not an expansion.

I can't wait.

Xenoblade 2 is by far, imo, the best rpg game on switch. Hope 3 will not disappoint. I’m surprised it will come so soon after the initial announcement.

@Jazzoflute The whole Xenoblade community just went crazy but it looks like both Nia and Melia are in as older characters. Fans think they could be on opposite sides of the war but obviously too soon to tell

It comes on screen, and is clearly Xenoblade. Chat: "is this BOTW2?". A British voice over starts. Chat: "BOTW 2!". More clealy Xenoblade footage and British accents. Chat: "BOTW2". Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Titles Card. Chat: "What?, worst Nintendo Direct. -10/10. Where's my BOTW2?".

I've played 1 - my new favorite game of all time, took 15 eyars for something to finally bveat out FF7 - and watched my kid play all of 2 and the DLC. And I watched thsi entire trailer wondering if it was a prequel b/c I had no idea what was going on, only that I Saw THE Mondao for half a second and a few of the voices sounded familiar.

So if anybody could explain it to me, thanks. Also, if you can explain how XCX ties into any of this my wife would greatly appreciate it, thanks. We really enjoyed XCX but the hints never lead anywhere useful.

The exploration scenes looked pretty smooth from the trailer though we havent seen too much combat yet.

i do hope that it doesnt suffer from the issues xenoblade 2 did in handheld though apparently torna fared better.

@rjejr to my knowledge XCX hasn't tied into any of the other XC games at all, but perhaps this will be the game to unify everything based on what we know from the end of XC2

So hyped especially since the dude said it's gonna tie the worlds of both blade 1 and 2 together. But dear lord, these are some of the blandest character designs I've ever seen. I thought it was a knockoff Xenoblade game at 1st before realizing, it's an actual Xenoblade

I haven't finished 1 or 2 yet because I put down 2 for a while and then more recently picked it up and then got definitive edition so now I know what I'm playing for the next 200 hours

The Monado, Blades, Core Crystals, Gormotti, High Entia, Nopon, the "corpses" of Titans in the background, what appears to be the Mechonis' sword, what looks like Mechon used by Homs troops....XC3 is getting the best of both XC1 and XC2. Can't wait until September gets here.

Ok looks like I will have to beat 2 and Torna this summer.

@Otoemetry that's true, pretty much all dubbed anime games and JRPG's are American voice actors which is probably why I'm not used to hearing British voices in games. A bit like the Fable series as well

As already commented elsewhere, it's not a first party game I needed for now, but it's one first party game I won't be able to resist despite the binge queue. Come autumn (possibly even September if I save up some of the summer funds), my Switch will have THREE concurrent Xenoblade playthroughs. Don't send help, I'm beyond any.

@Low yeah, No Man's Sky is a nuke on the third party front (as is Live A Live and all of Squeenix's lineup here, of course). And so far all the cloud versions [outside maybe GotG] have been telegraphed out the gate, so this doesn't appear to be one. Ancient weak hardware, they said...

@rjejr I couldn't really find anything related to X in this trailer, which isn't too big of a surprise. However, events in Future Connected could be explanations to how Telethia and Tainted creatures are in X. That's the biggest connection I've seen between the numbered entries and X.

Would definitely be down for more connections in a potential X2, or maybe in this third installment of the series

Did NOT expect this. I mean they could have reasonably ended the story with 2 (granted there is one CPU out there). I will have to see the character line up though to get this day one. I only survived 2 because of Morag...I detest Rex. Still I am happy for the fact that the series is going forward. It is becoming the Tales/FF franchise of Nintendo.

Happy for those that are excited, but for me this was the worst end to the video, especially since we probably won’t get another big direct until E3!! To me the most exciting thing was the return of Mario Strikers and that’s saying something

so technically both worlds have merge into one which ive been saying for a long time after beating both games.

Makes me wonder if this is going to round out a Xenoblade Chronicles Trilogy, and then Monolith Soft starts a new entry in the Xeno series, or ports Xenoblade Chronicles X to the Switch (or even makes a sequel to that).

I picked a VERY good time to start playing through XC2. Same month as my birthday! Can't wait! This was my favorite announcement in the whole presentation.

@UsurperKing Yeah but he wasn't entirely resolved unless I misunderstood the ending. Which is entirely possible since I haven't beaten the first game since it came out on the wii.

And this is supposed to connect the futures of both previous games...so it might be interesting. Not to be ungrateful, because let's face it, I will buy it eventually but I would have preferred a sequel to X.

@Dtl0722 I agree. I really don't understand why X is so underrated. It's my favourite Wii U game after Twilight Princess HD remaster and before Breath of the Wild. It's a big improvement over the first one, especially the side quests, graphics, travelling, UI, battle... I even liked the story and characters but this is subjective. The first one has a good story of course but the gameplay is so messy.

I shouldn't be surprised, but I am. I guess they are going to wrap this series into a trilogy, then circle back to XCX to possibly give it its own trilogy (Hey, I can dream. That saga was meant to continue dabnabit...)

A lot of the conversation seem to focus on confusing over identity, who is who, and who is on what side. With the Nopon Sage, anything is possible and this could just be an alternate reality, but for some reason the more and more I watch this I'm getting an X vibe, like they are all in new bodies trying to figure out who is who.

Story sounds a lot like XC1 (lol @ "Bionius") which almost made me think it was goin to be a "reimagining" of the first game.

Anyway, cool trailer. Love the more restrained character designs. Is it still too mich to hope for the return of playable mechs?

That is not something I had even considered, but I like it. To me, the "I refuse to believe you're him" line, felt like a desperate, "no, you can't be Zanza!" type thing. Though now that I've written that, it feels quite off.

However, I do like your idea a lot, considering what mimeosomes are capable of. Heck, the Vandham look-a-like seems to have Zeke's eye patch for some reason. You might be onto something here!

Alas, we won't know for sure until it's out, but what an exciting trailer! I'll add that I feel like having it all just be an alternate reality or something the Nopon Archsage concocted can be a bit of a cop out, but still technically a possibility so I won't rule it out

The protagonists in Xeno 2 instantly turned me off and I skipped it, but I’ll consider trying out Xeno 3.

XC 3 in Sept means there's no BotW 2 this year. A Zelda game at the end of the year or before it in Summer will killed the sales of this game - so Nintendo either release Zelda next year or in Spring this year. Since the Direct showed nothing, that means it's next year.

@Aurumonado so can I just start with this game instead of playing Xenoblade 1 and 2? I would just read the plot for those games and get the 3rd one later on.

@anoyonmus If you care about the story then I would advise against doing that. The story of the first game is really quite good and reading a wiki article won't do it justice.

Wonderful news! I'm looking forward to this, but I'm also slightly anxious about it. I really hope the combat is more like 1 than 2. Either way, I'm sure the story, music, characters, and exploration will all be up to Xenoblade standard if not even more awesome, and can't wait. 😁

I might need to cut away a lot of time from my playthroughs of the other games just to experience this.

@Teksetter I was like you and I am glad that I bought it! First, I didn't like the characters and that "chibi" cute anime faces but after a while, you will forgot it and you will enjoy this fantastic game! It was one of my best JRPGs. You may find it used at lower price. The only that I disliked was the performance. It was 20-30 fps and I was playing at dock at TV but then again, I did enjoy it! If you liked Xeno Chronicles 1, please reconsider it.

I hope it is more like 1 than 2. But the first game is amongst my favourite all time games so this is extremely welcome.

This was the Direct's saving grace for me, I'm super happy, yet...that trailer felt so dull...I still get goosebumps even thinking about the reveal trailer for XCX and this just kinda felt...lackluster. Not a fan of the character designs we're seeing either...

I bought the collector's edition of XC2 back when it released and only played it for a couple of hours. I really should get XC1 for Switch and play through all of them... I know they're regarded as great JRPGs, but for some reason I couldn't really get into them as much as I had hoped, but I know that when I finally take the time, I'll really enjoy them

@Arnold-Kage This was a Direct focused in the first months of the year (and we got things until September lol). Don´t worry, in the E3 Direct we´ll get the release dates for the big hitters of the end of the year (basically Zelda and Bayonetta, but count also with Mario & Rabbids 2, Sea of Stars, and any surprise like the rumoured DLC for Pokemon Legends).

@Zverik You gotta play XC2 as well. It´s a fantastic game! Even Torna is wonderful, highly reccommended too!

This left me speechless. I can't get over the scope, clean look, and gorgeous art style. The music is epic as usual.

I bought XBC2 when it launched, but kept stopping at chapter 3, several times. Then about 2 months ago I tried again and absolutely loved the game, playing through New Game Plus and Torna expansion. This past weekend I hooked up my WiiU and paid full price for Xenoblade Chronicles X on the eShop.

Next will be XBC1.

God the characters looks so much better… thank god. I actually skipped 2 cause I was too embarrassed 😳 These kids look like hip crew tho. Might come back and buy Xenoblade game again.

AHHHH. XBC The Definitive Edition is one of the only games I've ever bought Day 1 because of how amazing XBC 2 and Torna were. This will likely follow that entry, and hopefully it performing well gets XBCX ported over.

I'm hoping I'm right in assuming they got rid of the gacha mechanics from two and made the game easier to understand mechanically. 2 was arguably a better game battle mechanics wise than 1, especially torna, but it was the game didn't explain how to play it at all and how you were supposed to play it was counter intuitive. The gacha also really turned a grindy game into something ridiculous. I honestly didn't really like 2 because of its story and gacha and 1 was a little over long, but I'm definitely still going to get this.

Is Xenoblade really an action RPG? Isn't it more an ATB style like FFXII? Is this calculated reporter language to prepare us for XC3's more actiony combat, or just a presumption on NintendoLife's part?

Hopefully it plays NOTHING like XB1 and XB2. Both those games have their flaws that hopefully get fixed with this game. Also the character designs are very plain and boring this time around.

They don’t need to be sexual like XB2, but wow very boring MC and heroine look like as if they were NPCs. Went the complete opposite end of the spectrum compared to XB2 which isn’t a good thing despite how some people complain about XB2 sexual designs.

@UsurperKing by younger I think you mean Older perhaps? And I'm pretty sure the old man that looks kinda like Vandham is Zeke. Out of the two games only three main characters(minus their blades) would still be alive at this point. At least one of them is in the game, and that's Nia, at the end of the trailer, its not Mio there. The other masked one, the High Entia is very likely Melia. And then the old man, Zeke, same eyepatch and everything.

@Dexeronstarsurge Nah, the Vandham look a like seems younger than the original to me. Vandham is a pretty old guy and his hair is gray in XC2. Hair doesn't usually get more color the older you go. But that's just how they look to me.

I agree that the hair color and the eye patch are more Zeke like, which I brought up in an earlier comment. Definitely Melia and Nia at the end, we can hear their respective voice actors as they appear on screen, and that's just so nuts!

Though what do you mean that only three characters would be alive from the two games at this point? Do you just mean because of their age? I know that Melia, Nia, and Zeke have longer lifespans. Depending on when this game happens though, I can easily see older versions of both casts appearing. Or maybe the ones who don't live as long are in mimeosome bodies a la XCX (credit to Headpirate for giving me this idea).

@Ryu_Niiyama I just finished replaying XCX and gosh man, we really need an X2 at some point! I'll still take any Xenoblade over no Xenoblade, but still keeping my fingers crossed for that.

As for the third CPU, it does indeed have a complete resolution in the first game.

@UsurperKing it looks like quite a while has passed, this technology is far more advanced than Xenoblade 1 or 2's societies ever had. Mio is theorized to be the daughter of, or a descendant of Nia, and the other is theorized to be a descendant of Shulk, based on information we were given from leaks about the announcement and everything, original characters would be returning, but the leakers said "at least the ones that would still be alive" as a lot of time passed between the first two and this one. If that old man IS Zeke a very very long time has passed as their aging process is slowed down a lot.

@Ulysses Nah, it's more like an adjusted mmo style. The attacks are auto attacks, but the skills aren't and they all come up so often that the idea is to keep up the skills and use them as often as you can. By the midpoint of the game, you'll rarely if ever use an auto attack. You do use them. More in 2 but the way it's set up it's meant for you to just hit the first hit of a auto combo and reset because the first hit is faster and gets your skills back up faster. You can play it like it's atb, but not only does that make the game harder, it's super boring.

@Dexeronstarsurge well, since the world's are merged, it should be only the near immortal characters in 2 (and 1 technically) should be alive. And maybe Shulk. I don't know if that's a spoiler because I can't remember if that's how it works or not. The ending of that game is weird. It makes since for it to be in the car future to give the new world at the end of the games time to sit instead of coming up with a conflict immediately after which would feel a bit more forced.

@UsurperKing it's also unclear if characters like fiora and Shulk age after the end. I don't remember how what happened to fiora worked. If you told me she didn't age now I wouldn't question it. And Shulk, well, I'm also unclear if he got a wish or if he became a god or if he's even capable of aging after the ending in the first place. If you told me Shulk doesn't age I wouldn't be surprised. The humans from 2, I think it's fair if they're dead. I can't really remember what happened at the end of 2, but half of the cast should be alive in some form, shouldn't they?

compared to the previous three games, the designs of both characters and environments seem a bit... muted here.
A good bit less fantastical, if you will.

Perhaps they're just keeping a few secrets for now, to focus on the story instead? I hope so!

I have all XBs except 2 but the series has yet to grab me by the dogs Crown Jewels. I played 1 for 30h and got stuck and then distracted. And X was too overly complicated for my tastes.

So I must give XB1 definitive edition a try after finishing my current playlist. I really wanna dive in before 3 is released.

I've just ordered 1 on amazon as I had a voucher covering most of the cost.

I tried it on 3ds bit didn't get into it and, like last story, I missed it on wii.

If I like 1, ill def pick up 2 and then 3.

@Boldfoxrd 2 doesn't play much at all like 1 and the story is pretty much objectively worse. Where 1 has a lot of episodic plot arcs that all sort of connect well, 2 is a lot lighter to the point never really feels like it matters until 2/3rds through the game. The only bad part about 1 is that it's slightly grindy and somewhat overly long. 2 has a lot of narrative and gameplay problems and doesn't explain it's battle system at all. It's also a lot more grindy than 1, which already was grindy. But, the expansion of 2 is a huge improvement and so 3 should be better because they already fixed the many problems with 2. I would honestly skip 2 and look up the plot summary. 1 is a classic and kinda a must play though. It's really not bad, but the grind and the gacha kills it and the story just is made of interesting elements while lacking a real plot. Like, parts are cool, but nothing actually happens for most of an 80 hour game.

Not gonna lie, I’m more excited for this than any other game this year!

@Serpo I'm sure that would be if XB3 were a holiday title sometime between October-December, not September. If Zelda launches in Late November-Mid December with Xenoblade in September, that might be enough space.
