Re: Random: The Nintendo Switch is Perfect as a Tiny Arcade Cabinet

NaviAndMii

IGN's Brian Altano mentioned (on a recent podcast) that there might/will be an accessory like this to launch in tandem with the upcoming 'Namco Museum' collection on Switch...the idea is that you could slide the Switch in vertically and play the classics in their original portrait style (much like the iPad 'arcade machines' @UK-Nintendo posted above!) ..hope that's true!

Re: Talking Point: The Nintendo Switch Has a Chance for Significant Success, Especially as a Portable

NaviAndMii

Very good article - enjoyed it a lot!

It's funny, the early marketing of the WiiU that you mentioned - where one half of a couple would play the WiiU off-screen as the other watched TV - is pretty much how the Switch is being used in my household! ..if there's a sporting event or gripping drama on TV that one of us wants to watch, the other is quite happy to un-dock the Switch and get their game on!

The core concept was there with the WiiU - but the unattractive hardware, limited flexibility and lack of system selling software meant that it fell short.

The Switch takes the core concept of the WiiU and stretches it even further - you can now play completely untethered...you can take your AAA home console with you, anywhere!

..they also seem to have learned some other valuable lessons from the WiiU; the WiiU's styling was often compared unfavourably to a Fisher Price tablet - so they made the Switch look sleek and modern...the mistakes with software have also been noted and improved upon - the early titles are stronger, with shorter gaps between big releases. It's a recipe for success

I cannot describe just how good the Switch actually feels - it's blown me away! I pre-ordered one and hoped that I'd love it as much as I had some of Nintendo's previous consoles...if you ask me right now, I'd say that the Switch is my favourite console EVER - if I'm still saying that in 5 years time, I'll be a very VERY happy customer!

However, thanks to the ever-growing list of home improvements that I'm having to attend to - and the ever-growing costs - there probably won't be a second Switch in my household any time soon though! Haha! (..don't get old kids!)

Re: Feature: Taking A Deep Breath: Introducing The Voice Of Zelda, Patricia Summersett

NaviAndMii

Zelda's voice is my least favourite part of the game - not because she has an English accent - I'm English myself! (the actress does a decent English accent, I'll give her that! ) It's just that her delivery was, well, weak...

The guy that voiced Daruk (the Goron Champion) did a much better job in my opinion - really brought life to the character! ..Zelda, one of the most iconic and 'kick ass' female characters in gaming, should have a voice to match - I found her meek and mild delivery to be disappointing to say the least...

Re: Guide: Tips for Getting Started in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

NaviAndMii

Max love for this game!

My preferred play option is the Wheel - Auto-Accelerate and Steering Assist were turned on by default - even in single player...easy enough to turn them off from the pause menu - look out for a little antenna sticking out the back of your Kart if you don't want them on!

Re: Feature: The Growing Pains of Curation on the Nintendo Switch eShop

NaviAndMii

Ask these anonymous devs if they want any vinegar with ALL THAT SALT!!
..sure, if Marketing Execs are in charge of curation - that's bad...that's very bad! Marketing Execs are, after all, the best evidence we currently have for the existence of the Devil...but, developers who find themselves on the wrong side of the divide are bound to be pretty salty about it - so you should take their remarks with a pinch of...y'now
(Great article by the way! )

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

NaviAndMii

QUESTION: Can driver-assist/auto-accelerate be used online? Might help inexperienced players enjoy the online mode a bit more

..back in the Wii days, I'd often be placed in races against people's Grandparent's - who'd somehow manage to get lapped 4 times in a 3 lap race!! ..they can't have had much fun! (slight exaggeration, but these are the people who'd benefit most )

Re: Editorial: Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the Most Accessible of Nintendo Switch Games

NaviAndMii

Completely disagree - when you think of an accessible game, you think of games like Wii Sports...somehow I can't see my Nan getting in to Zelda - no matter how much of a BEAST she was at Wii Sports bowling!

Breath of the Wild is hard - even just figuring out what all of the 18 different buttons do would be quite a daunting prospect to an inexperienced gamer - I would not recommend this game based on its accessibility...no, 1-2-Switch is accessible, SnipperClips too - Zelda is almost the polar opposite.

...I really hope that no casual gamers buy the game on the back of this irresponsibly titled article - they'll be in for a shock if they do.

Re: Nintendo Fixes the Left Joy-Con Problem with a Small Piece of Foam

NaviAndMii

@CB85 This is what I want to know! ..it's all well and good showing what they did - but the pertinent question is: DID IT WORK?!

The good news is, from what CNET state on their article, the repair was done in under a week - that's decent ..I like to imagine that some guy is sat in a room somewhere with a screwdriver and a bucket of foam squares!

Re: Guide: Protect Your Nintendo Switch On The Move With These Carrying Cases

NaviAndMii

I'd really like a carry case that doubles as an adjustable kickstand - and allows you to charge the Switch in tabletop mode...

eg. a combination of the Hori Tough Case...

Untitled

...and the Hori Play Stand

Untitled

The idea of carrying a case AND a separate stand (+AC adapter & other accessories) doesn't really appeal to me - an all-in-one product would be a more portable solution which would suit me better...anyone know of anything I should check out?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th March (North America)

NaviAndMii

Nothing for me quite yet, my wallet needs a rest for a while! Haha! ...I could be tempted to download Stardew Valley, Yooka-Laylee, Overcooked!, and The Escapists 2 from the eShop down the line - but I'll need to save up some yen first!

Re: "No Widespread Technical Problems" With Switch Joy-Cons, Claims Nintendo

NaviAndMii

I was having issues with my left Joy-Con - so I decided to do some DIY troubleshooting:

I used the Switch's 'control stick calibration' tool and noticed that, when I moved the stick about on Joy-Con (L), the signal was a bit jumpy...so I moved the Switch dock around until it was running smooth and haven't had a problem since.

The left Joy-Con certainly has a weaker connection than the right one - but you can improve the docked experience at home with a bit of trial and error...

Nintendo should certainly try to make an improved Joy-Con (L) going forward though...

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch Has Started Well - Now the Real Challenge Begins

NaviAndMii

They convinced me to 'switch'!

Breath Of The Wild - SOLD!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - PRE-ORDERED!
Overcooked! - YES PLEASE!
The Escapists 2 - JUST TELL ME WHEN!
Yooka-Laylee - BANJO-KAZOOTHREE?! DONE DEAL!
Stardew Valley - WITH CO-OP?! TAKE MY YEN!
Mario Odyssey - gulp ...I'M GONNA NEED MORE YEN!!

The future? ..Smash Bros.? ..Metroid? ..Pokémon? ..Starfox? ..Super Mario Bros.? ..Animal Crossing? ..'Switch' Sports? ..Mario Maker? ..Pikmin? ..F-Zero? ..something unexpected?

...I think it's gonna be alright!
