It was only a matter of time before folks started painting their Switch Joy-Con to suit their retro system of choice and we have to say this GameCube-inspired offering by the talented guys over at Boss Fight Props looks amazing.
In addition to spraying the two Joy-Con controllers and grip in the classic GameCube purple, red and green buttons have been added to invoke more retro memories. If only the right Joy-Con analog stick was painted yellow, then this would be almost perfect.
It's looking likely that the GameCube will be one of the new systems added when Nintendo gets around to unveiling the all-new Virtual Console service for the Nintendo Switch. Would you like to play GameCube games with this setup or would you prefer that someone painted the Pro Controller instead? Let us know what you think with a comment below.

Missed opportunity with the stick on the Joy-Con R... Should've been yellow! But still, can't wait for themed Joy-Cons, or other controllers.
I hope they will make more JoyCon colors soon.
Meh, it's just a pallette swap. I'd rather see custom Gamecube joy-cons.
I'd like to see Nes, Snes and N64 variants. I'd probably buy any of those!!
@EightyTwoStu I think the material that the stick is made is not so simple to paint as the rest.
I'm looking forward to what Colorware has to offer in the future
@NoxAeturnus I am with you. With analog shoulder buttons as well =D
Yeah great....if you think the best thing about the Wavebird controller was the colour :/
...one of these with a D-Pad, however - maybe some analog triggers thrown in for good measure - now that would be great!
C'mon Nintendo, bring out official variations of your joycons, these guys are beating you to the punch.
This 3D printed holder is awesome!
EDIT:
If you have access to a 3D printer you can download it for free!

That is a thing of beauty
If Nintendo decided to officially make these I would certainly buy one
I expect arms to release with new colours of joy con.
DAMN YOU NintyLife!
Don't tag this as news! You got my hopes up that this was real!
That looks cool. Though I have to say I didn't like the indigo Gamecube back in the day. I bought black at launch. Also, I glanced at this yesterday and thought it was art, didn't realise they painted a real set of joy-cons and grip. Very impressive and professional looking.
@KiWiiU_Freek love it
Very nice. The GameCube/Wavebird controller is still more comfortable, though.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Once you go black, you don't go back. However, Indigo/Purple was better than frickin' Spice Vomit Orange, I'll give it that...
Looks like a cheap knock off. Nintendo should just make different style joycons match your preference of console with all the same butttons.
Did they paint on analogue shoulder buttons too?
I would worry more if they started painting the switch screen.. Joy-con look OK they just got Splattoooooned

@KiWiiU_Freek WOW!!
@PlywoodStick orange is better as it was rare to find but looked ugly next to the tv
Headline really got my hopes up for something official, but i guess it is too soon for that stuff. Still, this looks cool though. Indigo is my fav color for a Nintendo system.
@setezerocinco Yea, I agree, however it just misses that overall yellow colour in the mix, I think.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE My black Gamecube survived 2 floods. I had to get a new power supply for it once after the first flood, but it never stopped working. Damn i loved that thing.
Oooh....!!
Purple Joy Cons.
Please, Nintendo. Release Nintendo Switch in White or Aqua or Indigo color !
"News"
Also, the GameCube control looks kind of ugly in my opinion.
@NoxAeturnus This. I'll definitely buy one... if it has a custom button layout (Which will never happen). Otherwise, this is a cool mod, but definitely not something I would ever buy.
@PlywoodStick You take that back! I have one of almost every color and they are all beautiful! Including the new Black and White Smash versions, mainly because I wanted the longer cords.
@KiWiiU_Freek Are they though? That doesn't look real. Looks like a rendering of an idea to me. How would you slide the joycon on and off, with the top of the pip blocking them like that?
@ballistic90 They don't make them like that any more - Nintendo specifically states that you should keep the joy cons away from aquariums...
@UK-Nintendo I don't need a Gamecube looking controller, but I love the idea of being able to swap out the joycons for a newer look later. Fashionable and functional.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Ew... I don't like Black color for video game hardware.
I have Purple (On Top) x Clear (Backside) Gamecube controller, plugged onto my White Wii.
@PlywoodStick GBC/GC indigo is the best colour nintendo ever used for any of their systems, ever!
@KiWiiU_Freek
(Looking at Green Pipe Joy Con grip)
Wow, I can have a snack inside Green Pipe while playing Switch.
@EightyTwoStu the left stick should also be light gray. If i had the resources id do this myself. I know they sell aftermarket colored analog sticks.. maybe if we wait a bit there will be official ones.
@StuTwo aquariums often have fluorescent lighting that causes interference with electrical signals. I'm fairly sure that's what they meant.
Hold up, can you separate the Joycon grip into two parts? I never knew that. It might fit into the top pocket of my Orzly case like that!
Or does it require a screwdriver...?
@Dazza
Is this news? Care to elaborate on why it is?
Tag it "random" like I've seen you do with texts like this.
I like how a line gets thrown in saying GC VC support is "looking likely" while simultaneously linking to an article that says nothing of the sort
Slick.
@UK-Nintendo Slicker~
Cmon GameCube virtual console!! Add Dreamcast and bring back Genesis, Master system, T16 and VIRTUAL CONDUCT ARCADE while you're at it Nintendo!!! Really should of been ready launch day!! 😡
@StuTwo Those guidelines released by Nintendo are actually just generic copy paste solutions for any wireless device and may or may not specifically apply to the Switch.
Water can actually absorb and block ANY wireless signal. It has nothing to to with the hardware, it's the signal itself.
I used to work as a cable installer, fish tanks, wireless surround sound, baby monitors, cordless phones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and sometimes just the material the wall is made from were all common issues for slow WiFi complaints. Another wireless device that just happens to be on the same frequency or close to it can really cause havoc.
I have even seen RC cars interfere with wireless devices.
Really awesome! Has me actually considering painting mine. I love the purple!
Any chance we could get homemade/custom news items highlighted as such, other than as "News"? (MOC is a popular LEGO term)
I was SO ready to throw more money at Nintendo... grrrr!!!!
@Tsurii Such as...?
Release Fire Emblem Path of Radiance for Switch VC and you pretty much have me sold for the switch.
The right stick needs to be yellow.
I really wish they'd stop saying that GameCube VC games are likely. Without analog triggers, games like Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and F-Zero GX can't be played properly.
I would just like to see Gamecube games available for Virtual Console on the Switch. The current joy-cons without analog triggers are fine for the two games I want on VC, namely Mario Golf Toadstool Tour and Mario Kart Double Dash. Mario Kart 8 is awesome but I would really love to play some Double Dash in local multiplayer on the go. Or, re-release Double Dash for the Switch. It was arguably the best Mario Kart game ever made, or at least second best.
@TommyTLG I'd love to see banana colored Joycons with the same color as the yellow N64 controller
Super Famicom pls.
@Tsurii Different strokes, I guess. I found the GC controllers to be some of the best designed and most comfortable controllers I've ever used - particularly the Wavebirds.
@thesilverbrick They could make joy-con with analog triggers or they could allow gamecube controllers to function within VC software with an adapter like they did for the Wii U. Might not be too difficult to implement at all and if people already have the controllers, that might make it more attractive. Would be nice to have GC VC, for sure.
They should just add a yellow thumb pad to the right stick and a light grey one to the left stick. Those are available and cheap. Then I'd be perfect.
My only regret in buying an extra set of JoyCon may be when custom sets start arriving. I hope Nintendo is careful and specific with when and why they arrive. They are expensive after all!
Hopefully they all add unique functionality like analog triggers, spinners, roller balls, dials — remember those rumors? — more ergonomic grips, to make it all worth it... and yet, games that rely on unique hardware... it could be a problem.
Looks cute. Consoles and controllers definitely need more color variation again. Feels like we dont even get white.
No analogue triggers buttons. No buy.
@liveswired I know! This modder should have put analog triggers on there, reprogrammed every Switch game to use them, then set up a business where he was selling them!
Ugh, Internet comments... are just... so... gahhh!!!
@Destron
Don't forget...
Vacuums can also interfere with it.
When I see purple, I think SNES, not GameCube.
A NGC Pro controller would be better. From what I've heard d-pad dependent titles feel awful with the left joy con's arrow buttons (or so alien it's strikes you as wrong.)
The right stick is wrong, it should be yellow. And the left one should be gray.
That's pretty cool, although I really want Super Famicom and N64 themed Joy-Cons.
"It's looking likely that the GameCube will be one of the new systems added when Nintendo gets around to unveiling the all-new Virtual Console service for the Nintendo Switch."
Nope.
Looks pretty good. Hope to see all the NES/SNES/GB/GBA/N64 Virtual Console games ported over to Switch from the Wii U and a whole new selection of games.
OK, so yes I actually would pay £70 for these bad boys
@roadrunner343
Apparently it's real.
He made it so they slide upwards.
There's pics with the joycons off like this one.
I've added the link to my post as you can download it for free if you have a 3D printer.
The lack of analogue triggers might make Gamecube VC a bit tricky to pull off, unless they make the Switch compatible with the Gamecube controller adapter.
@KiWiiU_Freek
Yeah, except the Switch logo is backwards.
@thesilverbrick
People keep saying that, and yet I play those games with a Wii U Pro controller just fine. So well, in fact, I wouldn't have even known F Zero used them if someone hadn't mentioned it. Haven't tried Mario, but even if a couple games didn't play well, they could simply not release those couple games. Not like they release every single game for each platform anyways
My Gamecube is black...
@ProjectCafe
True.
Maybe it's to get around copyright infringement.
@KiWiiU_Freek
But it's a free download of a custom print schematic from the internet...
@ProjectCafe
Then it's a mistake.
The only other reason is that the pics of the pipe are reversed for some reason, who knows.
Other than that it still looks cool.
@KiWiiU_Freek
But...
The logo...
@roadrunner343 I'm impartial to black shells for computers. When it comes to computers, I'm like Roger Smith from The Big O:
"If you stay in my house, then you wear black."
Nice.
@EightyTwoStu Its a pain in the arse to color the type of material the joysticks are and still be able to use them on a day to day basis
I would like to be able to use my Gamecube adapter from my Wii U. Would be nice to use if for more than just the ONE game.
didn't Nintendo release a GameCube controller adapter for the Wii U? it should work with the Nintendo Switch. if not Nintendo will hopefully fix that before they release GameCube games on the Nintendo Switch for their virtual console service.
has anyone tried to use the GameCube controller adapter with the Nintendo Switch?
Looks cool but desperately needs a yellow button
Edited quickly to show how it could improve

The iconic part of the GC controller is the shape. It's one of the best shaped controllers I've ever used. The colour scheme on the other hand...
Hi folks,
You can play Gamecube for free on Wii U and NVIDIA Shield.
@ballistic90 ok I have to know the story behind the two floods! Tell me about it please.
@polivar4 My brother and I moved to Toronto for college and stayed there to work for a few years. We could only afford a basement apartment, and twice while we were living there Toronto had record breaking rainfalls. My brother was home both times and saw the water building at the window and put the computers and other devices ontop of the TV or a table or whatever, including the gamecube. The power supply for it was shot, but the console itself suffered no issues. There was about 4 or so inches of water in there, but the console didnt actually get wet. The second flood was relatively minor.
haha I love how people have been moaning at the cost of regular JoyCon & Pro Controllers but as soon as some customises one "Oh I'd definitely buy one of those!"
Odd logic.
