Re: Football Manager Touch 2018 Kicks Off Today On Nintendo Switch

NaviAndMii

@shani Yeah, I had heard about the '3 nation limit' - do the players from the unselected nations still load in to the game?

(eg. if I chose England, Spain and the Netherlands as my 3 nations - can I still see and transfer players from Italy, Belgium, Brazil etc? ..you just can't see how those leagues are progressing?)

@OorWullie Haha! I feel you! ..look forward to hearing your thoughts once you've been able to have a proper sit-down with it

"From what I've read though, other than squad updates the game has had very few changes over the last few years. So I'll happily skip 19 and just manually update squads, if that's actually possible."

Yeah, that's essentially why I only tend to buy it every other year - when you start a new save, you usually begin right in the middle of a transfer window, so the squads get messed up pretty quickly anyway!

I don't think that FM Touch comes with an Editor like the full version (on iOS/Steam/Android at least) so manually altering the squads won't be possible, unfortunately...which is a shame - I usually like to edit a couple of my favourite 'wonderkids' to play for my beloved Ipswich Town before I get started - to save me from getting the dreaded 'my client isn't interested in signing for your low-quality football team' message when I attempt to sign them in-game! ..and having the option to start afresh in the autumn having manually edited some of the major 'real world' transfers in to the game would've been a nice option

...it's a bit of a shame - I do like the Editor - but not the end of the world I guess!

Re: Football Manager Touch 2018 Kicks Off Today On Nintendo Switch

@Dayton311 SEGA also publish a PC game with quite a similar premise called 'Motorsport Manager' where, instead of managing a football (soccer) team, it's an F1 team instead.

It's not officially licensed - so, unlike Football Manager, doesn't involve real world people or teams - and unfortunately it doesn't feature any motorsport disciplines aside from F1 (ie. NASCAR, rally, touring etc) ..but the game itself still looks like quite a lot of fun - and a similarly addictive experience!

If you have a half-decent PC, it might be worth a look?

(..or, if FM proves to be successful, perhaps SEGA might drop MM on Switch as well? **fingers crossed!**)

Re: Football Manager Touch 2018 Kicks Off Today On Nintendo Switch

NaviAndMii

@YummyHappyPills Harsh...

As a lifelong fan of the series, I was just letting you know - Sports Interactive develop the games, SEGA publish the games...SI develop all 3 versions of the game in-house (Full, Touch, Mobile) - SEGA don't interfere with development, but provide support as and when needed.

'Full' is the full game
'Touch' is slightly stripped back
'Mobile' is bare-bones

SI are extremely protective of their game - and even turned down more lucrative publishing offers in order to work with SEGA, who promised a more 'hands off' approach.

FM Mobile has always been a bit of a 'bare bones' experience - but Touch (Switch version) is pretty much 95% of the 'full' game, with only the most mundane elements taken out (to make it a bit snappier to play)

(EDIT: Sorry anyway, I wasn't meaning to sound like I was 'ramming home the point' earlier - I'm obviously quite a slow typer, so people keep Ninja'ing me! ..the above is more just to reassure anyone who doesn't know - them having effectively 3 different versions of the same game floating about is more than a little confusing!)

@Monkeyofthefunk Haha! A game of two halves - now with added 'Extra Time' (bus, couch, loo, bed, waking-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night-just-to-tweak-a-tactic - hybrid baby! )

Re: Football Manager Touch 2018 Kicks Off Today On Nintendo Switch

NaviAndMii

@YummyHappyPills The game is made by Sports Interactive...

SEGA publish it (and lend a hand with some technical support here and there) - but FM Touch is essentially the 'full' Football Manager experience, just with some of the (kind of tiresome) in-game chores stripped out.

FM Mobile (a separate version, not coming to Switch) is quite 'bare bones' - but FM Touch is a 'proper' Football Manager game.

Re: Football Manager Touch 2018 Kicks Off Today On Nintendo Switch

NaviAndMii

@Mr_Pepperami Yeah, compares to £21.99 on Steam - so a bit on the pricey side...but my heart is telling me that having Football Manager on Switch will, in some way, 'complete my life' - so I'm all in!

@OorWullie Yeah, it's essentially the same as the 'full fat' game, just with some of the 'fluff' taken out (ie. no press conferences, limited player interactions etc) - so a heavier focus on the matchday experience and a bit lighter on some of the OTT micro-managing elements.

I've only ever played the 'full' PC versions of the game (and I tend to only buy every other release - eg. FM13, FM15, FM17) ..but I've often wondered whether a slightly stripped-back version could be a bit more 'fun' - press conferences seem to get a little bit repetitive after a while and some of the most-micro-of-micro-management elements can feel like a bit of a chore sometimes - which means that, usually, it'd probably take me a full couple of months just to get a season done, making the 'full' game feel like a bit of a grind sometimes (..still love it! - but I sometimes wonder whether I loved some of the older, lighter games more)

FM Touch, from what I've seen, seems like it takes out just enough to make the whole game feel a bit more 'snappy' - whilst retaining all of the 'key' elements that give the game its depth...and, all-in-all, it seems to strike a really nice balance

@Damo If one of you is doing a review for this game - make sure someone keeps an eye on them...there's a very real risk that they'll get sucked in to a 'Football Manager rabbit hole' which, without outside intervention, could be near impossible to escape from!

@pjzelda It doesn't appear to be on the US eShop (yet?) unfortunately

Re: Nintendo Comments On Third-Party Docks Bricking Switch Systems

NaviAndMii

Well, there's clearly demand for Mini/Travel Dock's - perhaps Nintendo should consider making (or having an officially licensed) one themselves? At least that way people would have a verified alternative to the rather bulky standard Dock - I know I'd rather pay a little extra for the official version if it'd guarantee quality...do it Nintendo, then take my yen!

Re: Sketch Amazing Splatoon 2 Banners (And More) With This GameTech Stylus Pen

NaviAndMii

I find it incredibly difficult to draw on the Switch screen - even using an apparently 'compatible' stylus...I'd love to find one that gives legitimately precise control, so I'll probably keep half an eye on this - but unless I see proof that this works (and works well) I won't be rushing out to buy/import one

@gcunit There's a red postbox near the entrance to one of the shops in Inkopolis Square - and the drawing option pops up if you interact with it (..came across the option by accident when trying to interact with a nearby Inkling!)

Re: Third-Party Nintendo Switch Docks Could Be Bricking Consoles

NaviAndMii

Are any of the third-party docks any good? ..I'd love a little mini-dock just to have in the bottom of my bag to make plugging-and-playing on any nearby TV possible - but I can't deny that these horror stories are putting me off taking the plunge!

I'd be interested to hear any recommendations!

Re: The Games Industry Reacts To The White House's Violent Games Showreel

NaviAndMii

@roadrunner343 Yeah, good point

That scene may very well have been taken out of context for all I know (and I guess, if that was the case, I just fell in to the 'trap' of looking at the snapshot without considering the wider picture - **slaps own wrist!**)

I don't like to see gratuitous violence for violence's sake - but that often isn't the case - and, in any case, to draw any conclusions off of the back of one 90 second montage would be short-sighted.

@Octane Yeah, definitely - I do recall one scene (not shown in the showreel) from GTAV where I (the player, as Trevor) was forced to torture someone for no good reason...it was unpleasant, uncomfortable and felt unnecessary (and probably should've been cut from the final game IMO) - but it is an adult-rated game and the ESRB made reference to that specific scene on the box...if such things were being overlooked by the ESRB (or other ratings agencies), there'd be a problem - but so long as we're all clear on what the content is and retailers adhere to the rules regarding selling said games to minors, we should be free to make our own choices.

Re: The Games Industry Reacts To The White House's Violent Games Showreel

NaviAndMii

The showreel was pretty gruesome - even as someone who has played (and enjoyed) a variety of different adult-themed games in the past, it was enough to turn my stomach...

However - a couple of points:

1) Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that every cutscene shown was taken from games with adult ESRB ratings (it's the responsibility of parents to ensure that their children are only exposed to age-appropriate content)

2) It'd be relatively straightforward to make a 90 second montage apparently 'showcasing' pretty much anything you'd want it to - in no way was it a reflection of the games industry as a whole, or even a fair representation of violence in video games...it was exaggerated for shock value

Don't get me wrong, I was appalled to see a cutscene showing a violent massacre of unarmed civilians - whatever game that was taken from, it was horrifying and the developers should be ashamed of themselves...but if a parent bought that game for their child, the finger of blame should be pointed firmly at that parent - and that parent alone.

Every game is given an ESRB rating for a reason - if a parent is exposing their child to inappropriate content, it's negligent on their part. It's no different to the age rating system for movies and other media - the contents and areas of potential concern of any game are clearly labelled and any responsible adult should consider and review them at point of purchase.

Re: Toys R Us Is Preparing To Liquidate Its U.S. Business, Reports Claim

NaviAndMii

Here in the UK (where they've also gone bust) they've failed to modernise and paid the ultimate price. People will go to toy stores if they offer a unique experience (eg. Build-A-Bear Workshop) ..it just wasn't a 'go to' destination any more, unfortunately - and you can only really put it down to poor management and a lack of ideas

Re: Tennis World Tour Is Swinging For Match Point On Nintendo Switch

NaviAndMii

@crackafreeze Someone told me on the forums here a while back that it's something to do with the way that the ATP/WTA handle licensing - so, unfortunately, they may never come

I really think that they're missing a trick though - when you look at other official sports franchises like FIFA, NBA, Madden etc, those games are almost more popular than the sports they're based off! ..which surely benefits everyone?

They only have one great male player - and Serena (one of the greatest sporting stars on the planet) is a particularly huge miss! ..very disappointing

Re: Random: Nintendo Lands Itself In Hot Water With Norway

NaviAndMii

@SLIGEACH_EIRE "Anyway, it's funny Norway quoting EU laws when they're not a member of the EU, theough thay are a member of the European Economic Area(EEA)."

Not that funny - one of the requirements for EEA member states (to access to the free market) is that they fully comply with EU trade laws...so Norway trade practices = EU trade practices.

Re: Nintendo Scores Big In The 2017 EDGE Magazine Awards

NaviAndMii

@MacaqueAttack It's not so much that the listed games aren't worth playing - it's just that there are so, so many timeless classics missing...it reads like they have very little appreciation for the 'retro' era - and appears heavily skewed in favour of modern gaming.

To call it 'garbage' was probably a bit of an exaggeration - it'd be more appropriate to call it the 'least balanced' top 100 list I've ever seen (and therefore the most poorly compiled)

(p.s. I can never pick between SMB3 and SMW! ..whenever I'm asked what my favourite 2D Mario is, SMB3 is always my 'default' answer - but I'm not even sure I believe that! ..SMW is so, so good!)
