Rumour: NX Entering Trial Production At Foxconn, Annual Output Pegged At 10 Million

I posted this in the forums a couple of hours ago and sent the news tip in. Should mean NX is still on track for a March 2017 release. Would love for a Foxconn worker to reveal what it looks like, it wouldn't be the first time.

Trial production? Doesn't sound too finalised, does it? I wonder when this rumour relates to - this week, this month, sometime before now (I can't be bothered to read the source article)...

@gcunit I've said it before that it is a bit annoying, it's almost like making a point a point at this stage of not giving credit. Yet other people get credit. Other sites had the decency to acknowledge that I sent the tip in when they posted the story.

Rumors are getting more and more accurate every console generation, so at this point it's safe to assume that every reasonable rumor is true. Like this one, and the handheld/home system hybrid. I remember before the Wii U was announced the rumors were all about the second screen, and we all know how that went.

Not having even said anything about the console yet is NXcusable.

The sad fact is that we're all tied of rumors and waiting that when actual news like this comes up, we've grown numb to it, even when there is something substantial to it. The NX going into actual production is huge on many levels (making its Match 2017 release date being a real possibility now is a big one), and it does hint at a reveal very soon to avoid possible leaks that may occur.

I'm personal thrilled at this news. I'll take an article like this over a talking head being vague about how "incredible" it is anyway.

So, how many units can be made between now and launch if it's 9.5-10 million units a year? How many is it likely will be needed to meet demand? Might there be extra capacity for launch or less capacity as the efficiency of production lines is ironed out? More importantly, what is it anyway?

@yomanation Exactly. Now it's only a matter of time before the first sketch of what the outside shell of the NX looks like is leaked, much like that drawing that was done from the PS4 Slim or Pro, also by a FoxConn employee.

Direct; Digital event, don't know the actual phrasing they will be using. It seems atm that it will branded with the latter because Directs already have established themselves into certain pattern.

I anticipate and fear the day we get to know what this next console is called. They kept it secret for so long that it will feel weird to stop calling this thing "NX". We've been using it for so long...much more than, say, "Nintendo Revolution" or "Dolphin", "Katana" etc.

For anybody who didn't bother to click on the linked to article, the main story was that PS4 Pro manufacturing was getting good underway now, and that console launches is under 2 months, 6 or 7 weeks, so Foxconn and it's limitless supply of labor - work them non-stop until they literally kill themselves then hire replacements - has plenty of time for a test run of NX now and start production for real in December, I don't think those workers get the week between Christmas and New Years off. Chinese NY is next Jan 27 - Feb 2, but the product should be on the boat by then. They have time. I wonder if Nintendo took the NY holiday into account when they announced March? They could still get it onto shelves, but that could lead to supply issues after the in tial batch sells out, which it will.

I still think it gets delayed until August, but that's just me, they have time to get it done by March if they want.

If they really have started mass producing the systems then surely we are due a reveal fairly soon? The design must be finalized assuming this is true so the next logical step is to reveal it to the public, perhaps in early October.

@Jayvir You are correct. It is way too difficult to find cheap AND ethical labor in China. Apple does regular visits of their product lines...but not much they can do to enforce things when they fly back to Cuppertino. Since most countries have outsourced there aren't too many production plants that could quickly and easily be ready to meet production with no loss in time even if they were willing/looking to switch.

@rjejr @ThanosReXXX I'm not confident that Nintendo is savvy enough to realize that it will be leaked soon. Since the Wii U announcement, iPhone leaks have gone from untrustworthy to 90% accurate confirmation of the hardware. (There's just too much money in it for leakers)

Nintendo does tend to observe Apple, though... maybe they'll see that and the internet fervor over NX and put 2 and 2 together. If so, I think next week is a great time to reveal! Yay!

But on topic: now that production has started at FoxConn, I'm kind of suspecting there to be some leak in the week to come, unless the official reveal will beat it to the punch. And by them I mean the 1 drawing they are all covering. It does have your SCD though, but I forget what they called it, but it was an SCD by a different name. And a dock. You know, I really dont think any of us are getting out of this unscathed, it's like walking into a minefield.

She has been like right a few times over all of her claims. In fact she once said if she was wrong of anything she leaked back int he WII days she would stop reporting altogether. Well she was wrong and yet she still posts. Yeah can't trust her for anything.

@rjejr I have already seen that last video and it is horrible and shows VERY little investigative skills, all drawings shown are from German artists and are indeed clearly fake. Most come from a site that is the German equivalent of DeviantArt, but instead of an artsy site, it's more tech related.

Had also seen the Usman video already, but not the Alex Osborn one.

But you know what could be the simplest reason that this drawing is fake, besides being WAY too similar to the patent?

Sounds like a joke, I know, but a couple of years ago, I read an article about how bad conditions were over there, and also that no one (except management, obviously) is allowed to take unnecessary stuff in or out of the company, other than some food/drinks and maybe a telephone/mp3 player.

That would mean that the previous FoxConn leaks, of the PS4 Slim and Pro, were sketched on a sketch pad that was already in the building, so a FoxConn branded sketch pad/block note, company stationary, if you will.

Just look at these two PS4 drawings, and compare that with the obviously fake NX drawing:



And also note that only the NX drawing has a lot of text on it, as if we don't already know what a GamePad/portable looks like...

And what could be true for the paper that it's drawn on, might even be true for writing gear as well. All previous drawings were done in black, this one is in blue ink.

Reaching maybe, but I just don't see any similarities between the two PS4 drawings and this one. They are not from the same artist. And besides already being discredited on NeoGAF, it's also discredited on the Chinese equivalent of Reddit, so a hobbyist computer forum.

And that dock thing? Still not feeling it. And I don't have to come out unscathed: I couldn't care less because I have no online reputation to protect or validate, contrary to a whole bunch of websites and YouTube channels. And I know that in real life, I'm right most of the time, so I think you can pretty much guess who's gut feeling I'm going to trust...

Well I hope something is new, b/c I'm going to be annoyed if it's just a Wii U 2 w/ better range for remote play on the Gamepad.

I mean, if it's a Home that plays discs - b/c Ubi and EA said so -and a handheld that plays carts, and we still need to buy different ones to play on each, even if they are the same games, I'll be very unhappy.

And I already gave you a lot of reasons in several previous comments why it wouldn't be necessary at all anymore for a home console to have a disc drive.

And this is besides the fact that this would make no sense at all if the cartridges are now all but confirmed. If they are making such a big thing of that as a leak, then it must surely concern the home console, since revealing that a handheld is using cartridges is no news at all, since they've always done that, save for one silly mistake that Sony made with UMD's...
So, therefore the only logical conclusion is that ALL NX devices will be using cartridges (except for the streaming controller, obviously), because that would be something new and worthy of mentioning as remarkable/odd/Nintendo-like.

I'm guessing that this is something that seems to have slipped your mind, seeing as you keep mentioning a disc-based home console every now and then. It is not going to happen, my friend...

It's NX, it's hard to rule anything out. I don't think it will have one, but nobody cares what I think or we would have had the reveal 3 months ago.

I'm trying to think now of things I can 100% rule out, and they are hard to come by. A HDD, an actual HDD , not flash storage, seems incredibly unlikely to me as Wii U didn't have one, but I'm sure some people would argue 500GB is mandatory for a Home, and that's too much for flash or SSD. No disc drive, but that will upset people who want BC w/ Wii U discs. No 3D on NX handheld, b/c of 2DS and SMM on 3DS doesn't even have 3D and that's a first party game. But I'm sure some people expect it b/c it's really good on NEW 3DS.

So no, no disc drive, but not 100% no, more like 95% no. Maybe 98%, but not 99%. So, there's a chance. Slim and none maybe, but slim is still in the running. Maybe 3rd parties pressured them to include it? Maybe it will look like a CD-cassette car radio and have both? Preferably not as ugly.

@rjejr Nah, third parties will not be able to force Nintendo to put in a disc drive. They will more than likely have listened to power demands, but the game medium, aka cartridges, will have been decided by Nintendo alone. And since it makes more sense for a lot of reasons (because the benefits outweigh disc-based media by FAR), I can't imagine any third party developer complaining about it either.

As for the rest: I'd say take the time to watch (or in your case: listen to) that 2 hour "NX Cast" that PE did with SMD64 as a guest. They tackle all topics known so far, and all craziness is thoroughly dealt with between the two of them.

I just finished watching it an hour ago, and I quite enjoyed it. And 99% of what they say is just irrefutable logic, so should set a lot of minds at ease...

And watch those NX hype videos that I posted in the pros and cons article. Also a lot of reasons to be merry, excited, and even a bit more patient, although that last one is a bit of a stretch seeing as even a really relaxed person like myself is already done with waiting...
