@Dezzy70 $100 million. That's more than a typical Illumination budget. And if you go by traditional marketing cost expectations (same as budget) then the Mario movie is already profitable, and considering good word of mouth, it should do a decent next month of business. I'll be shocked if it doesn't make $800m worldwide.
I just could not possibly care less if CoD returns to Nintendo consoles. I haven't bought an Activision game since they owned the Bond license. Bobby Kotick is a terrible human being.
While I generally found the voice cast fine when people were flying off the handle about them, I always thought Jack Black was an EXCELLENT choice for Bowser, and a clear highlight of the film.
@Vexx234 No, but I would say the film succeeds on hitting it's target. A Mario movie was never going to be a high cinematic achievement. It was a fun hour and a half, and that was all it needed to be.
As a stand alone movie, if you know nothing about the Mario Bros., this isn't a good film. The story is too compressed and it relies too much on audiences having existing knowledge of the world.
However, Mario is so ubiquitous, I doubt anyone but the most stuffed shirt wouldn't be a fan of Mario in some capacity. And the fun and depth of the references, as well as highly entertaining performances (particularly Jack Black, who is a pitch perfect Bowser), carry this movie to the finish line. If you go in unburdoned by expectations (and maybe even with particularly low ones considering Illumination has only ever churned out garbage), you should come out pleased and appreciative of the film. It's a lot of fun.
I'm hoping Nintendo goes iterative with the Switch, like their handheld history (GB->GBC->GBA or DS->DSi->3DS->New 3DS) instead of a complete format change like they usually do with consoles. In which case, I'll wait to buy a new Nintendo console until the next gen Switch.
E3 was one of a kind when it started. Now, there's no shortage of better alternatives. The writing was on the wall before the pandemic started. That only hastened the realization that the industry had bypassed E3's necessity.
@Cia Yes, they do just want another OoT rehash. And they fundamentally don't understand that BotW is the best selling Zelda game ever, and not by a nose hair. BotW has over TRIPLED the sales of TP or OoT, which are the #2 and #3 best selling in the series. BotW lifted Zelda into Pokémon and Mario Kart sales territory. To expect Nintendo to just reverse course after one EXTREMELY successful game, especially a direct sequel is just plain stupid.
@ArcticEcho Let me just say, not everyone feels that way. I have never gotten further than 10 hours into a Xenoblade game. Just not interesting to me. I spent hundreds of hours in BotW.
Overpriced for what you get. 6 30 year old games for $65 dollars. You can get the Mega Man Legacy Collections, Mega Man X Collections, and Mega Man Zero/ZX Collection for less money, and that's 24 games. Just not worth it.
@Drmarioland 1995. Easy way to remember is that it was the 1st E3 where Sega botched the Saturn launch and Sony fired the price heard round the world: "$299."
If you don't like it, don't buy it. The series doesn't belong to you, no matter what bad decisions you made with your body. That is no proof of being a fan.
@Kovats56 a $39.99 game in 1995 would cost $80.04 in today's money. I'm sick of people whining about $10 extra on a AAA Zelda title when Sony and Microsoft have been doing it for years, especially in an age with soulless micro transactions and an infinite number of crappy subscription services. Oh, no, $10 extra! Once! How are we going to live!/s
The Japanese cover is just so generic. It's design could be plastered on most Zelda titles, if not it's style. There's actual character in the NA/European version.
@Anti-Matter While I disagree with the comment you were replying to, your preference for smaller titles has absolutely no sway in the Switch's lifespan. When Nintendo stops selling their big franchises on the Switch, the system is dying, even if you don't care about them.

Re: Mario Movie Already Set To Be The Highest-Grossing Video Game Film Ever
@ComfyAko Not gonna happen. Only Avengers: Endgame has even gotten into it's zip code.

@Cashews They do combine Canada in with the US in the domestic numbers.

Re: Feature: The Best References And Easter Eggs In The Super Mario Bros. Movie
You missed the Toad Brigade/Captain Toad's theme playing as Toad led Mario through the forest to Peach's castle.
Re: Mario Movie Just The Beginning Of Nintendo & Illumination's "Rewarding Collaboration"
I enjoyed the movie, but I really hope Nintendo doesn't turn to Illumination for a Zelda or Metroid movie.
Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Gets Its Very Own Monopoly Set
@thenikdavies All Monopoly editions are low effort, and the game sucks, anyway.
Re: Video: Let's Discuss The Super Mario Bros. Movie
@Vexx234 Dude, not being a high cinematic achievement doesn't make a movie mediocre. Don't put words in my mouth.

Re: Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series Launches On Switch Later This Month
$65 is too much for six 30 year old games. I'd consider $30.
Re: Video: We're Playing Zelda: Ocarina Of Time In Our New YouTube Series 'First Bytes'
@JohnnyRuiz This take is utter garbage. Gatekeepers like you suck.
Re: Poll: How Many 3DS Consoles Have You Owned?
2. I bought the blue launch version, and the red New 3DS XL when Majora's Mask dropped.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Gameplay Trailer - Every New Detail Revealed
@Rykdrew Great, so you're fighting game fan. I'm not. No trailer for Street Fighter could ever get me hyped to play it. Apples and oranges.

@Cashews $40 for a game that's been in development for 5 years. What a rubbish take.
Re: Hands On: The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum Plays Like Small Taters
I just don't understand how anyone could find a game about Gollum appealing. Hard pass.
Re: Best Zelda Games Of All Time
My top 5 (obviously not objective):
1. Majora's Mask
2. Breath of the Wild
3. A Link Between Worlds
4. Ocarina of Time
5. Twilight Princess

Re: Bowser Defends $70 Zelda Pricing, Nintendo Still "Very Bullish" About Switch
@DwaynesGames I'll tell you I didn't. That game wasn't worth $60. I expect TotK to be worth it.
Re: Bowser Defends $70 Zelda Pricing, Nintendo Still "Very Bullish" About Switch
Anyone remember when Super Mario 64 was $69.99 at launch in 1996?
That would be $133.45 today.
Anyway, I essentially got TotK for $49.99 thanks to Switch Online vouchers.

To each his own, but I doubt I know anyone who'd call a Peppa Pig game 'exciting'.

@Kiyata Why would they re-remake the 2nd generation instead of remaking the 5th generation?
Re: Round Up: Everything Announced At The February 2023 Pokémon Presents Showcase
All the people complaining about how bad this was (I don't know, I didn't watch), makes me laugh.
It's almost like having a video about a single IP is a bad idea for a game company when you're doing it just because people expect it./s
