Re: Talking Point: Are You A 'Complete-In-Box' Or 'Loose Cart' Retro Gamer?

Manah

My SNES carts are in their plastic bags (and two storage boxes) because a) my parents didn't keep the original boxes and b) I'm not a fan of cardboard anyway. But ever since the DS games got proper boxes, I won't buy or keep games without them.

I don't know why anyone would leave loose carts flying around, but it does explain why so many people act like losing them is a real concern...

@Exciter89
For the most part, the Etrian Oyssey games are standalone games. There will be a few references and stuff, but nothing you need to enjoy the games or understand the story. Nexus is more of a "best of" game with returning dungeons and characters, and I personally enjoy how it plays with expectations when you've played the games its dungeons are based on, but again there's nothing that doesn't work without prior knowledge as far as I can tell.

Bravely Second is a direct sequel to Bravely Default.

Re: Poll: Do You Like The Chibi Art Style In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl?

Manah

The Story of Seasons remake already toed the line of tolerable chibi design for me, but it didn't look quite as cheap overall as this game. I get they were going for a recreation of the otiginals' pixel style, but it just doesn't translate all that well to 3D models, and Let's Go looking so much better just adds to the disappointment.

I was mostly hoping for the games to be less clunky on the technical side, but if I'm expected to pay full price for this I'd rather just replay the old ones.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2021 Nintendo Direct, Then?

Manah

I didn't have expectations other than something for Zelda and a Smash character reveal. I was hoping for AoC dlc and got that, plus a handful of other things I'll consider buying, so overall I'm pretty happy with it.

I don't really judge Directs by "meeting expectations" or overall "objective" quality, I just make lists of the things I want. The only time I remember being disappointed was when Miitopia was a port rather than a sequel.

Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Wednesday 17th February

Manah

Glad to see they're back. Those random announcements where I know what theyr're about before even watching any trailers just don't do it for me. I like being in the right mindset for these things (and also being able to plan out my spending a few months in advance)

"Turning on a game to just relax and take the edge off, only for it to remind you of that thing that's been tearing the world apart?"

This requires you to have bought the game, and it can be reasonably expected of you to have at least read the eshop page to know what the game is about. If you don't like the subject matter, don't buy tge game, and it won't be on your system to blindside you.

Re: Soapbox: I Never Completed Breath Of The Wild, And I Never Will

Manah

I explored the castle as much as I could without running into the last blight (great place but I wish you could teleport out) and now I'm pretty much just hanging out in/around Tarrey Town because I'm not killing Ganon before I finished all Divine Beasts and I'm ignoring Naboris because I can't be bothered to go through another of these things. It's been like that for over a year now.

Re: Soapbox: Oh No, I Accidentally Made Animal Crossing Into A Time Capsule Of Misery

Manah

This isn't judging you or anyone else who got the game for the lockdown, but it really does show the difference between people who were into AC as a life sim before and people who weren't in how they approach "boredom" phases.

If this is your first AC game, I can tell you I was super active during New Leaf times and this competitive mindset didn't really exist back then. And there's definitely still a huge community that doesn't focus on this.

Trying to get out of the "prettiest island competition" and "lockdown savior" modes is important. It's a game. It's supposed to be fun, not save the world.

So, as you said, Animal Crossing cannot be used as a flotation device when you're drowning in the ocean, but it can (literally) be that little island that lets you take a break from swimming.

Re: Talking Point: Are You A Player Or Collector?

Manah

I play most of the games I buy, and cards cost extra so I don't buy digital games unless I'm actually interested in playing them. (I did grab some of the free games, but never downloaded them.)

With physical releases, I'm far more likely to pick something up to "complete" my collection, but only used and when they're cheap enough. The opposite Pokemon editions are a good example.
