I wasn't a huge fan of Trio of Towns but loved the other 3DS games. This is disappointing. (And they REALLY need to fix the space issues, that used to drive me crazy in the first Story of Seasons game all the time)
The Story of Seasons remake already toed the line of tolerable chibi design for me, but it didn't look quite as cheap overall as this game. I get they were going for a recreation of the otiginals' pixel style, but it just doesn't translate all that well to 3D models, and Let's Go looking so much better just adds to the disappointment.
I was mostly hoping for the games to be less clunky on the technical side, but if I'm expected to pay full price for this I'd rather just replay the old ones.
Ocarina of Time is starting to have the same oversaturation annoyance effect on me as Kanto in Pokemon games. I still had the most fun with the Oracle games, especially Ages.
I didn't have expectations other than something for Zelda and a Smash character reveal. I was hoping for AoC dlc and got that, plus a handful of other things I'll consider buying, so overall I'm pretty happy with it.
I don't really judge Directs by "meeting expectations" or overall "objective" quality, I just make lists of the things I want. The only time I remember being disappointed was when Miitopia was a port rather than a sequel.
I had no expectations and got plenty of things on my list now. Age of Calamity DLC and Legend of Mana are probably my favorite announcements for this years, Skyward Sword is nice too.
Glad to see they're back. Those random announcements where I know what theyr're about before even watching any trailers just don't do it for me. I like being in the right mindset for these things (and also being able to plan out my spending a few months in advance)
"Turning on a game to just relax and take the edge off, only for it to remind you of that thing that's been tearing the world apart?"
This requires you to have bought the game, and it can be reasonably expected of you to have at least read the eshop page to know what the game is about. If you don't like the subject matter, don't buy tge game, and it won't be on your system to blindside you.
If they keep this up, I'm going to have to dedicate a memory card to Atelier games. Or get around to importing the Asian carts but the custom fees make that a financually unwise option.
There'll be enough announcements out of nowhere, like last year.
I'm good for now. Bravely Default in February, Stranger of Sword City in March, Snap in April, and then we'll likely know more about the months after that. And don't forget the Zelda anniversary.
I explored the castle as much as I could without running into the last blight (great place but I wish you could teleport out) and now I'm pretty much just hanging out in/around Tarrey Town because I'm not killing Ganon before I finished all Divine Beasts and I'm ignoring Naboris because I can't be bothered to go through another of these things. It's been like that for over a year now.
I still feel cheated that I had to buy a random house that's not even really IN Hateno and then got to build a whole town with people who care enough about me to invite me to their wedding and I didn't get to live there? At least they could let me have one of those cute cube houses instead of a boring normal one.
On one hand I'd love to give these game another chance (they were the least fun for me so far) but on the other I stopped playing every remake after 4-6 gyms...
This isn't judging you or anyone else who got the game for the lockdown, but it really does show the difference between people who were into AC as a life sim before and people who weren't in how they approach "boredom" phases.
If this is your first AC game, I can tell you I was super active during New Leaf times and this competitive mindset didn't really exist back then. And there's definitely still a huge community that doesn't focus on this.
Trying to get out of the "prettiest island competition" and "lockdown savior" modes is important. It's a game. It's supposed to be fun, not save the world.
So, as you said, Animal Crossing cannot be used as a flotation device when you're drowning in the ocean, but it can (literally) be that little island that lets you take a break from swimming.
The guys have to be the most boring designs I've seen in a while. I'm now placing all my hope in the game having one of the usual "secret" candidates and that he's more appealing. Or same-sex marriage.
I play most of the games I buy, and cards cost extra so I don't buy digital games unless I'm actually interested in playing them. (I did grab some of the free games, but never downloaded them.)
With physical releases, I'm far more likely to pick something up to "complete" my collection, but only used and when they're cheap enough. The opposite Pokemon editions are a good example.
Even after watching a trailer I can't figure out what's supposed to be standing out compared to other games. The most offensive thing I saw were the walking animations.
That recommended sitting position has always been extremely uncomfortable for me. That's the advantage of handheld gaming for me, I can change posture whenever I need to.
Credit cards only and having to choose between a very pricey and an apparently very crappy delivery service, and likely custom fees on top of that... as much as I love Actraiser, I'm afraid I'll have to skip this one.
I like having a place to look up NSO content (free trials and small stuff aren't all that obvious on the eShop) but it's too bright and draws attention away from the game icons.
I mean, if you don't have the time you can play them later. I'm not sure why that's so much worse than playing earlier.
I did appreciate having guides that tell me how many things I can find at what time, especially for the wedding event with its arbitrary order limit the game never tells you about until you actually hit it. I would have missed out on so many items because I tend to save up first to know what I can actually afford.
Going by this review and my experience with Ganon mode in the previous game, I'm going to hate the Divine Beast missions. Hopefully there aren't enough to turn me off the game entirely.
