Well, here's a surprise - the upcoming release The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD will be receiving a brand new amiibo.
Introducing the Zelda & Loftwing amiibo figure - it'll be released alongside the game on 16th July. This amiibo - featuring two characters on the one base - allows you to travel from the land to the sky whenever you like and wherever you are!
You can even use this amiibo to exit dungeons or buildings - as demonstrated in the reveal video above.
The Zelda & Loftwing amiibo features two characters on a single base: Zelda as she appears in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, and her trusty Loftwing.

In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Zelda is the hero Link’s childhood friend, and is always looking out for him. Loftwings are large birds living on the floating islands of Skyloft and are ridden by the people there to travel across the skies.

Will you be adding this new amiibo to your Switch collection? How about the game itself? Leave a comment down below.

This one has me riled up!
Locking an accessibility/quality of life option behind some tiny plastic figure I have no interest in buying (we aren't all collectors) is a bloody joke.
Sort yourselves out Nintendo ffs!
Amiibo (certainly the game unlock aspect) should have died with the Wii U.
The cutest Zelda!
It’s beautiful 🥺
Of course here come the amiibo whiners... havent had one to whine about in years... shut up you know you will buy it.
@Rika_Yoshitake
I have no interest in tiny plastic figures.
@TheFullAndy then just buy thingamajig that lets you download all the amiibo data and be done with the whining.
Im expecting the “why should I pay for something that should be included?” argument
@fafonio
I have no idea what that is but when Nintendo are charging full price for a 10 year old game and the likes of Microsoft and Sony have being showing the way with accesibility options in their games then Nintendo needs to sort themselves out and have this as an option in their full priced remaster.
They probably won't even give me the option to swing the sword with the left joycon as a left handed option.
I will whine, hows about you stop sucking?
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
I hipe they’ll make alot more amiibo
Looks amazing.
I have no intentions of buying Skyward sword HD, but I'll definitely try to cop one of these.
Good looking amiibo, but I'm not a clutter collector. I'd happily pay for dlc.
The non-motion control option is locked behind the Link/crimson Loftwing amiibo.
Awww crap... another amiibo...
I love the amiibos but hate how hard and ridiculous they are to collect... I am seriously done with that hype, I just want them to not make anymore of them now.
Well, I know what I am doing tomorrow at noon.
I am going to pre-order this $30 amiibo!
I was kind of hoping they were going to pack it in with the game like with Twilight Princess HD years ago. As it is, even though I’m fond of this incarnation of Zelda, I’ll probably skip the amiibo. There isn’t really that much of a need to teleport from the ground to the air and vice versa that can’t be handled at a statue. I would’ve hoped something like the extra dungeon from Twilight Princess HD would’ve been locked behind the amiibo.
I am NINE amiibo away from collecting all of the North American / USA released amiibo!
So basically Ooccoo in real life. Great.
She looks absolutely adorable.
It's been 8 years since I played the original SW but, was it that much of an issue traveling back to Skyloft to replenish stuff from wherever you were on the map? Since it was sort of like the main hub of the game I thought you could easily fast-travel back to the place already.
Then again, 8 years. I barely remember anything besides the Ancient Cistern. Fun game, though
That one needs to be on my shelf next to my Smash/Twilight Princess Zelda amiibo.
I've never bought a single amiibo in my life and that isn't gonna change with this. Having said that, I will be picking up a copy of Skyward Sword.
@SeaFishelle
All are from the Smash Series.

Well you couldn't pay me to play Halo but I see your point lol
Not good enough Nintendo!
Actually Nintendo Life time for some good old fashioned journalism: Go ask Nintendo how they think this is acceptable in this day and age when other companies are pushing for accessibility/quality of life options in their games as standard?
@WaluigiNumberOne
Cheers bud nice to hear!
I am critical of Microsoft and their lack of quality first party games over the last half decade but they have made moves to resolve that and if they announce a new Killer Instinct I will be next in line for a Series X!
Gorgeous. I know my brother will love this!
I couldn't be more excited! I have all the Zelda amiibo, and this one will make a great addition. Not sure if I'll buy the game as Mario Golf is my first priority purchase this summer and Skyward Sword is my least favorite Zelda game, but I'll definitely be picking up this amiibo.
I want that QOL but not enough to pay for an Amiibo. I've only purchased Link, Zelda and Samus from Smash and the dog ate Link.
I'll pick this up if I can get it, even if I'm not set on the actual game yet (and it is a bit scummy that this feature is locked behind an amiibo). Also strange that they announced this so late in the day (for the US, at least).
All the hate in the comments section of this and other sites won't stop this Amiibo from selling out.
Beautiful, beautiful figure. But yeah it should be used for another purpose. The warp functionality should be in the game as standard, except warping in dungeons.
Not interested. But I would appreciate if Nintendo put its amiibo functionality at the very least inside the Skyward Sword Link amiibo from 2016 as well. Feels fitting enough,
I love amiibo and will probably get this one for my shelf, but good god... locking QoL behind an amiibo? Really? Why not just lock the new 60fps behind an amiibo too while we're at it.
@TheFullAndy
HAHA! Actual journalism from Nintendolife? You might as well ask for free amiibos. This site is a Nintendo sycophant's wet dream. And the community is even worse sometimes. I mean look at the immediate blowback your initial comment got. You say you don't like the idea of forcing you to pay/search for some additional toy just to get features that should be a part of the game to begin with, and suddenly you're called a whiner and told to shut up. That happens to me like every time I say anything on here. You remember that one guy even called me a c*nt last week because of it. Nintendolife will NEVER question anything Nintendo does, they'll just cheer it all along and act like we should be happy about it all and feel lucky.
And the amount of people who are like "oh please take my money thank you for screwing me just a little bit more go another knuckle deeper i beg you." blegh
Holy cow, this is beautiful! I'll be getting my hands on this one if the price is right.
@screechums you do realize if you vocalize negative feelings towards a game it makes others who were otherwise happy have a bad day.
@sixrings
Well then, my friend, among the many casualties of video games in a fanatic's life, I suppose the ability to accept/endure criticism must be added to the list.
As soon as I saw this I was thinking...
Cue the scalpers!
So I hear this zelda get alot of hate, and you know what, I'm going to play it, and form my own thoughts on the game, I might need to do two playthough's as you start to see the game more clear. Speaking about your own thoughts, form what I have heard of the game, it does sound like it could be annoying, and from what people said, it shouldn't be that hard to fix, and I agree, and for a lot of people, this game had a lot of game ender's and man do I hate game ender's, i'm really just going to have to wait and see.
Another thing I hope we get this year, Is Wind waker, (I mean they would just need to port it) and MM and OC, The last to are probably not going to happen, but please give me wind waker.
Also I just need to say this, but lord This amiibo is just so cute, I haven't gotten another amiibo in a wile, my only two I own being Pikachu, and mairo, hopefully the scalper's don't get to it. (LOL)
@TheFullAndy @WaluigiNumberOne Its so nice to see people liek you guys get along, and talk to each other like human being.
@TheFullAndy I agree, it is kinda sucks that such a quality of life change is locked behind a figure, and I get it, not everyone wants to have these things, and that would be great if they could chose that without loosing something, the annoying thing, is that they try to trigger your loss aversion (Probably using that wrong LOL, but its something like that), "I could be cutting my time in half, if all I had was that amiibo" kinda like mario OD, the bowser amiibo allows you to track purple coins instead of looking for them.
Please don’t be GameStop exclusive. I don’t want to have to sell a kidney for this.
Otherwise, I am excited!
@Snatcher
Yes it is predatory for lack of a better word. I forgive, or accept, a lot of Nintendo's foibles but this one takes the cake. It is a disgrace.
Didn't Breath of the Wild lock a custom fast travel location feature behind it's DLC?
I guess this is kinda similar, though scummier since amiibos aren't DLCs that can easily be purchased on the eShop.
@sixrings
Boo bloody hoo
I need her. I don't even know much about Skyward Sword yet, but she has so much personality in Smash, I love her already. And as such, I need her.
There is no reason as to why this couldn't have been in the base game, and why it's locked behind a figure that's going to be hard to get because of scalpers. The figure looks nice, but they really couldn't have done something actually unique with it, like making it a skin for a loftwing or something, rather than locking a quality of life feature behind it?
Best Zelda (character) ever. Fight me.
I plan on buying the Amiibo and not the game (I don't think it's worth paying $60 for little to no improvements from the original).
This is cute but Im done with amiibos for now, the farores wind like effect is not worth the asking price, played the original on wii and replayed on wiiu and honestly there is no point in the game where I would find this useful. Its really a niche QOL that nobody will miss so no need to get so riled up about it.
@Moonlessky Even if it's niche, it sets a dangerous mindset for the company making the game. It's a feature that should be in the game, even if no one would use it.. and the fact they put it behind a paywall is just baffling.
@VoidofLight the dangerous mindset is already there, nintendo is a company and they like money plus this is not the first time they've done this and it will not be the last. They did this before with botw with the travel medallion but lets face it that game has soo many shrine warps that its completely useless its the same with this feature in SS. Yeah its nice but is it convenient? No its not. If you want to punish nintendo for releasing this type of stuff then just purchase a 3party amiibo card instead. They get none of your money, you get the missing feature you wanted and it will be a cheaper buy. Im not defending nintendo but they do need to add somewhat useful features to their amiibo so people will justify spending on them. If all the amiibo did was something cosmetic the backlash would be worse
@Moonlessky Honestly, I wouldn't even bother with an amiibo card, seeing as I have no interest in buying a "remaster", which changes nothing about the game except for giving it worse controls.
@TheFullAndy We ask them all the time mate. They don’t respond
Zelda’s 35th anniversary is looking suspiciously like its its 25th anniversary...
The MHR Magnamalo Amiibo got me the game for free so I will definitely be grabbing this and will probably flip it on ebay to pay for the game.
I'll buy it when it's available as a card on Etsy.
Well darn, I need the amiibo to go with the rest of my Zelda amiibos... damned if I am getting the game at full price though. I like Skyward Sword, but still no noteworthy improvements.
Also, I am not necessarily against locking something cool behind an amiibo, but QoL should be there in the first place. Remasters and remakes are supposed to be a chance to improve the game, not an opportunity to sell upgrades via things people don't want.
It's really beautiful! I don't know if I'll buy the game, as I have it still unplayed on Wii, but the amiibo yes, I will be getting it. No rush, though.
Sweet! Definitely will order this amiibo.
Dang... I haven't bought an Amiibo in years, but suddenly I'm very interested in blowing precious money on a plastic figuring that I don't need and will probably never use.
Well damn. Gonna have to buy this one too now!
This isn't a quality of life upgrade, this easy mode for the game. Use it any time, go refill your health and consumables, then go back, even if you are in a dungeon? If you need this amiibo for the game, you truly suck at Zelda games. The sculpt is good, but I doubt I will unbox it.
I hope that they re-release skyward sword link as well.... So i can get these two!
I was just thinking if I don't buy the amiibo then I should feel like the need to complain because I don't get what that brings. Does that mean if I don't buy the game I should complain because I don't get anything!"!"!
@screechums Wow you act like you have no 'Achilles Heel' to anything commercially, congratulations!
Meh, I would of preferred a Peatrice Amiibo that changed the story and let's Link dump Zelda for Peatrice.
If the game doesn't hit #1 in the weekly sales chart, stuff like this is the reason why. On the same day, a £20 amiibo, £70 joy cons and a £50 game are releasing. I can't be the only one who will prioritise the limited items and get the actual game later on.
@dew12333
No way, dude (or dudette). I buy the Jakks Nintendo 2.5" line. I love them. And I've wanted figures of the Koopa kids since the day SMB3 came out on NES. Plus I get the Mario Kart hot wheels line. Love those things.
I just think that if you buy a video game you shouldn't have to buy something else to play features of it. What if you had to buy a specific mug to use a certain function on your blender? Would you put up with that? Amiibos on their own are fine, I have a couple myself, but making them necessary for features on a game you bought separately is just another money-licking greedy corporate decision that pisses me off.
@screechums necessary feature? How bad are you at the game that you need an easy mode?
@Trikeboy
Well no offense but how bad are you at reading? I didn't say it was a necessary feature. Read it again, sly. And it doesn't offer an easy mode, it just cuts down on time spent wandering back and forth. That's what a QoL improvement means.
The amiibo itself is really nice! I really like this design for Zelda, and how her relationship with Link is portrayed is one of the best.
@TheFullAndy completely agree with you. Such feature should not be behind a paywall. When it's something like extra random items, or a simple skin, I don't mind. But that's a whole QoL that they could make available.
The animation in this game looks proper janky. Can't believe I'm gonna spend £60 on it, but here I go getting sucked in again...
I have autism, which makes me lose patience with games a little quicker than most. These tactless morons at Nintendo decide to lock an accessibility feature behind a figurine. Bloody disgusting.
It's funny how Dark Souls suddenly seems a lot more accessible, with its easy warping.
@Rika_Yoshitake Yeah, your total lack of empathy is stunning.
@Trikeboy How bad are you at the game that you feel the need to punish yourself with long, boring treks through an interactive load screen?
I now realise that I wish we got a Groose amiibo.
Love it, getting it. Thanks Nintendo.
@screechums This website doesn't show when you edit your comments. How sad that you have to edit your comment to make a comeback.
If they limited it to the overworld only, you might have a point, but since you can also do it in dungeons, that makes it an easy mode. Say you are in a dungeon, you run out of arrows, so you amiibo out, refill your arrows and go right back to where you were, fully refreshed. That is bordering on Action Replay/Gameshark codes.
This is basically Farore's Wind.
Not that I'm complaining.
@TheFullAndy
Complains about having to buy an Amiibo to unlock additional content in the game....proceeds to buy dlc for any other game to unlock additional content
@nymbosox I mean to be fair, the amiibo is something physical that you have to use every time to access the content. At least with buying regular DLC, once you buy it, you can use it instantly, anywhere, without having to jump through hoops.
@nymbosox
Tell me the last DLC I bought for any game?
@TheFullAndy "Go ask Nintendo how they think this is acceptable in this day and age when other companies are pushing for accessibility/quality of life options in their games as standard?"
So, adding in a way to play a Wii game as intended WITHOUT motion controls is not Nintendo adding accessibility/quality of life options?
@Trikeboy
Considering the game was built around the Wii controls obviously the intended way was always with motion controls not without so what you on about?
And I am talking about THIS QoL feature, the one locked behind an additional paywall. Stay on point bud.
@TheFullAndy You are aware you can play this game with button controls as well as motion controls, right?
@Trikeboy
Re-read your comment to me then my reply. Not difficult to understand.
Yes, this should have been in the game. No, it's not as big a deal as people pretend. Yes, I will buy the amiibo because I like it, provided it's not exclusive to their crappy store again.
@TheFullAndy "So, adding in a way to play a Wii game as intended WITHOUT motion controls" They are adding in button controls to a Wii game. A game that was intended to play WITH motion controls. Do you just suck at reading comprehension as well as Zelda games? Putting in button controls is a quality of life improvement. You were complaining about other companies make quality of life improvements as standard, but not Nintendo. However, Nintendo are adding in button controls as standard as a quality of life improvement. You are complaining Nintendo don't do it, when they literally showcased a quality of life improvement in the reveal trailer. As for this amiibo, it isn't a quality of life thing, it is basically a cheat for people who suck at Zelda games.
@Trikeboy
Alright bud let's go through it:
"adding in a way to play a Wii game as intended WITHOUT motion controls" That means Skyward Sword was always intended to have button controls which is incorrect as the game was built around the Wii motion plus so you are incorrect there.
"They are adding in button controls to a Wii game. A game that was intended to play WITH motion controls." You didn't say that first time round did you? And it contradicts what you did originally say.
"Do you just suck at reading comprehension" Well one of us certainly does and it isn't me.
"Putting in button controls is a quality of life improvement." It is more an accessibility option, not relevant to this article though is it. It was also very much necessary so the game could release on the Switch Lite.
"You were complaining about other companies make quality of life improvements as standard, but not Nintendo. However, Nintendo are adding in button controls as standard as a quality of life improvement. You are complaining Nintendo don't do it, when they literally showcased a quality of life improvement in the reveal trailer. As for this amiibo, it isn't a quality of life thing, it is basically a cheat for people who suck at Zelda games."
The other companies have been showing the way yes with a whole host of options as standard in their latest games to cater for as many people as possible. You referred to this amiibo unlock as an easy mode in your comment above. That makes it very much an accessibility option, evidently locked behind physical DLC. It is a scummy move.
We done here?
@MS7000 not always, some amiibos unlock things permanently. But either way you sugarcoat it, it’s still dlc.
@TheFullAndy
Ahh, don’t understand sarcasm do ya?
@nymbosox
I do, that wasn't sarcasm bud.
But if that was your intention, fair dos.
@nymbosox You are correct; not always do you need to scan most amiibos more than once, but in this particular instance, yes you do. I am not disputing it is DLC however. There is also the fact that if you are unlucky enough to miss pre-order, the price of said content increases because of demand/scalping. Not normally a problem with any normal DLC.
@MS7000 this is what upsets me about Nintendo is that they probably wont do a reprint of these. They wont announce the preorder date and times either just like they didnt with the zelda-themed joycons, doubtful they will go up for preorder again too
@nymbosox Agreed. I am still awaiting that reprint of the Metroid amiibos... it'll never happen.
@Snatcher I think the phrase you are looking for is "the fear of missing out".
@MS7000 I won’t lie, I was lucky enough to get the samus/metroid double pack at a gamestop that doesnt have a lot of traffic. I dont want to open them bc well ya know lol. But you need the Metroid Amiibo to unlock Fusion mode in SR. So i went on Etsy and got the card versions of those Amiibos. Price wasnt bad either
@TheFullAndy Now I understand your confusion: "adding in a way to play a Wii game as intended WITHOUT motion controls" I was meaning the contents of the game, not the control style. For example the door eyes where you have to rotate the sword to open. They haven't altered the game content to make the button control mode. That is a quality of life upgrade, not run away mode like this amiibo.
Where have Nintendo said this fast travel ability will only be available via the Amiibo?
@Trikeboy
Dude you are sad. I didn't edit my comment, you made an error in reading. Pretty pathetic to cling to it, too, but it really doesn't surprise me on here.
@screechums ? That's really presumptuous and also not very kind, I'm not really sure why you wrote that about me.
@mudmask
oh man, sorry about that. when i hit reply to the guy above me it must have put his name in front of yours as i was typing. my bad. i have changed it around.
@SeaFishelle
Sure!
I don't mind open box amiibo!
There were, what, four? Landing spots?
How will the game amiibo know which one you want to go to (once they are all open)?
Will it cycle through them, meaning you have to use the amiibo a couple of times as soon as you land?
Will there be an on-screen prompt for you to choose?
@Trikeboy
No confusion on my end, you worded it incorrectly.
@SeaFishelle
1: so, people complaining about nothing, like normal.
2: message me about the amiibo you said you'd consider selling me.
Thanks!
So this amiibo does pretty much what the Travel Medalion does in BotW. Pretty lame to lock these things behind a paywall.
@Bizaster
Don't need to give figures but you get a good price?
@Bizaster
Fair play!
Meh already sold out for Best Buy and GameStop in the US. Ugh Amazon it is.
Well that's decided then - just purchased a set of NFC Tags. FU Nintendo with your greedy practices. The paywall was £60 on a pretty basic remaster, not another £20 just to unlock QoL improvement that should be in the base game.
Treat us with respect and we will treat you the same and vice versa.
At the moment,
this amiibo is just fast travel for Skyward Sword,
but have y'all figured out yet that it would also be eventually utilized for Breath of the Wild 2?
