I didn't see it coming, but I'm totally engrossed in a new play though of Link's Awakening DX on NSO. I had plans for more Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, but I just can't tear myself away from finishing the quest. I just got the Face Key....
With access to only my 3DS, I’ve decided it’s an all Mario weekend. Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and, because of what’s happening on Monday, Super Mario Maker.
My favorite will always be FFVI. But it's the very first one that I go back to most. Something so satisfying about starting a quest with a different set of 4 (3 white mages and a thief, for example)
Super Mario World. Because while I loved SMB2 and SMB3 before, World was the first Mario game I beat all the way. The 96* with the changes it brought into the game… you know, right after those coins said “ you are a super player” … .Pretty sure nothing will ever top that for me.
I just bought Evergate digitally for $2.65 (sale ended 2/26). But I really prefer opening the drawer under my TV and seeing all my games staring back at me. Leftover feelings from the NES and SNES days of my youth!
Are the investors who sold their shares of Nintendo the same ones investing in Sony? Maybe that’s why Sony is already hinting at a PS6 dropping sooner than later.
Sad that the industry is turning into such a mess. Feels to me like this unraveling isn’t even over yet. Just look at what harm a rumor can do.
IMO, Microsoft changed their mind after rumor speculation painted a non-exclusive Game Pass negatively. Did they really need a podcast episode just to not name 4 games and hint at new hardware? Idk maybe they did but the presentation felt more like damage control than anything else.
Is the Wii U’s NES Remix 2 the only way to play Super Luigi Bros.? I’d love to get good at playing SMB as Luigi, in reverse. Sounds like an amazing hidden gem in and of itself.
My new deep-dive-all-in game decision has been made: Skyward Sword HD. So I’ll be playing it. (And also grinding up my exp level in Dragon Warrior on the NES.)
Nostalgia carries this one for me all the way. North America/UK. It’s the box with the Adventure Series logo and was the very very first video game I owned when I got my NES for Christmas way back in the dark ages of 1987.
“Courage and wit hath served thee well” and so far I’ve been promoted to level 14 in Dragon Warrior for the NES. “Slime is running away” “A Wolflord approaches”
@dartmonkey I really, and really, and really wanted to like that book. As a gamer who grew up in the NES/Oregon Trail era, and remembers Magic Eye posters out in the wild, there was something a bit off about Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow’s history being firmly, and correctly, rooted in that timeframe. As a result I couldn’t dive in. A good story no question, maybe even a great story, but of the 50+ books I read this year, it’s not in my top 10.
Know when a band gets a new member and their sound just goes in a different direction? Like when Dave Navarro joined the Chili Peppers on “One Hot Minute.” Yea, something like this in a Pokémon game, I think, mostly, would be a different game developer.. It would branch out with brand new ideas, and if done right, could add years or even decades to the IP’s relevance.
6/10. IMO, it started with the best game which didn’t leave the showcase any room to build momentum. (Also my opinion, but A&A didn’t seem genuine together - it hindered more than it helped the presentation.)
Hoping to 100% Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon before Halloween. I've rolled the credits but still have 1 Boo and 9 gemstones left to find. Also, @KateGray, Happy Birthday!
For an added challenge, I do like the Japanese Famicom version. Visually it’s the same as the NES so maybe why it’s not differentiated here. Taking damage as Fire or Raccoon Mario (or any other type power up) reduces you back to Mario rather than Super Mario. It’s significantly harder especially later in the game.
It’s cool to know (or think we know) the new VA. But I’m still in the camp of wanting to know the (real) story behind why Charles M. is now a Mario Ambassador and no longer the voice of Mario.
I haven’t played the demo. In fact, I’m avoiding it wanting to experience the game once it’s released. But… to anyone who has tried it out, do you recommend any Mario games to play/replay leading up to the 20th?
I won my first game on the day it was released, April 7, 2021. Hmm maybe I’ll try and win one more on the game’s last day. Ha!! I wonder if I still have a win in me. It’s been so so so long since I played last.
Continuing my first play through of Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii. And while it’s fun, I probably should have played this game much sooner or at least before Odyssey.
@DwaynesGames The NES version will always be my favorite and I play it on the NES Classic Edition. But it's sometimes very tempting to hit up the SNES version on NSO. (Especially in handheld mode!)
Super Mario Galaxy. This is my very first go at the game. Yea, I know I’m late to the party here but just before Super Mario Bros. Wonder being released seemed like the optimal time to me to ah “jump” in.
Nah. Not this week. Scarlet/Violet DLC drops Wednesday. If there’s a Direct it wouldn’t be ignored but it doesn’t need to be included either. Maybe later in the month to keep the September streak alive.
“Competing for people’s entertainment time” Why say this now? And to the Washington Post? Timing around Nintendo’s next console reveal can’t be a coincidence. Or, it’s just because Nintendo Live was happening. Nothing to read into at all …
Still can’t wait for Wonder to be released! Great presentation and use of time to show off the game. As for the Direct Showcase itself, well I would have preferred an introduction to Mario’s new VA rather than the introduction of yet another OLED variant.
Edit: Never mind. I just remembered we get to learn about the VA in the credits of the game.
@RobynAlecksys I’ve been following the drama with BG3 and feature parity between XSX and XSS. Seems MS did a 180 on their stance and now the S could/should be considered somewhat less than current generation hardware. (Assuming precedent is set here which admittedly could go either way.) I see MS and its hardware as trying real hard to compete. And it does have its hardcore followers, especially here in the US. I’m not one of them but if nothing else as a non XBox/MS fan, they provided some good entertainment this year with the acquisition of ABZ trials and now the decision to drop feature parity on XSS simply because one game may prove to be worth this short-term win.
Good article! For me, it was the music that would get stuck in my head. Music from a game I couldn’t remember. Only that the game was fun, had pirates and treasures, and was kinda sorta like minesweeper. Took me years but I found it!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th April)
I recently picked up Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair for $3. (Sale until 5/1).
I’ll be alternating between this and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, both on Switch Lite, depending on my mood.
Re: Feature: 10 Game Boy Deep Cuts That Aren’t On Nintendo Switch Online
Qix was always underrated in my opinion. Especially in the arcades. But I was glad to have a port of it on GB.

Instant nostalgia for me on #5's box art!

NES Remix 2 because I want the ability to play Super Luigi Bros. (you know, SMB but backwards)

Good review! Atari continuing to strengthen their brand with games like this is, imo, exactly what the video game industry needs right now.

Special World, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, specifically the most difficult three levels: “Climb…,” “… Gauntlet,” and then, the one after that.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 6th)
Before the snowstorm , I will begin the hunt (aka Niantic cash grab) for a Rockruff that can evolve into Dusk form Lycanroc.
Then once the snow begins, I’ll be back to SMB Wonder.
Re: Video: Felix Shares His Top Five Switch Games Of 2023

Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon (New 2DS XL)

Super Mario Bros. 2; It’s fun, short, and usually different enough from whatever game comes next.
