Rings! I appreciated the rings I was able to carry over from Seasons into Ages. It gave me an attack advantage, allowing me to focus more directly on the puzzles. They are quite a fun challenge in Ages.
Younger me went to Tommy K’s Video (locally owned smaller version of Blockbuster in the Greater New Haven CT area)to rent this type of game. I’ll wait for a sale.
Ha.. During Covid times and working from home, I played a ton of this game on the TG-16 Mini during work conference calls. Even seeing the screenshots in this article brought me back to those meetings. And the boss I had back then too. Ugh!
@Pawsebutton so many possibilities. Like “Mario and Bonk at the Olympics.” Or, “Keith Courage in Mushroom Kingdom.” 😁 But seriously that’s a great thought you bring up about Nintendo buying the lot of Hudson Soft’s legacy properties.
First learned about the Minus World in 1987. My friends and I tried to get there from 2-2 just above the pipe at the end of the level. (In re-releases of the game there's an extra brick there, visually blocking this entrance)
Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited for Nintendo’s next thing and I’ll probably be a day 1 adopter. I’ve been following rumors for what seems like years as they ebb and flow. This one seems most concrete as something new and exciting is nearing its big reveal. But I can’t help but feel this is the start of what Apple has done with their own ecosystem. A new device every two years or so for those who want the latest processor and screen. And for those who don’t, a planned obsolescence of maybe 4-6 years before the hardware becomes unusable with the newest software. It’s great and it’s not. Nintendo generations are such pillars of time. Yes there have been clues that this is the convergent point: Gameboy games supported on Gameboy Color, DS games on 3DS, Wii games on Wii U, etc. I suppose accepting a departure from this convention is critical for Nintendo’s continued success. I’m all for it. But my “iPhone” has been the same since the iPhone 3GS- it’s just changed vessels over the years: 5, 5s, SE, 13 mini. It beats the alternative where Nintendo leaves digital content isolated and abandoned on dead hardware. Not complaining as I have quite an extensive digital library. Just feels like a junction point to where Nintendo is overlapping with the industry more than ever before. Like “Blue Ocean” is a game we all bought in the eShop.
Out of curiosity, I saw new games were available for Game Boy for NSO and watched them load. Instead of Kirby, Metroid II caught my eye and I've been sucked in. So, I'm fighting off 39 metroids today; currently somewhere between the gammas and the zetas
Still unsure whether to start here with Pikmin 1 or Pikmin 3 Deluxe. Yesterday I was leaning heavily towards 3. But after reading this, maybe I go with the first one, you know, first.
Super Mario 3D Land on 2DS XL. I’m a little more than halfway through the Special worlds. It’s not TotK but there is this one level where when you light four torches, a door opens playing the secret-found-song from Zelda.
Hmm, so Hogwarts is back on top because it was just (finally?) released for previous generations (PS4, X1). Looks playable and enjoyable, but is that install base enough to keep it on top? Too bad we won’t ever know since next week every game on the list slides down one position.
Twilight Princess on GameCube. Something tells me in a week’s time it’s going to feel even more outdated than it already does. Still, I’m enjoying this, my first play through.
After just finishing, and totally loving, the original SteamWorld Dig, I’ll be starting SteamWorld Dig 2 on 3DS. Both were last minute purchases before the eShop closed.
IMO, Nintendo EAD is what makes it a Zelda game. For me, thats most important. Sure Capcom and some 2nd party developers have helped along the way, but the constant has been R&D4 and its subsequent acronyms.
This weekend it’s The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons for me. I played it long enough ago that it feels fresh and exciting. I’m currently at the point where I need to use a flying Cucco to find some bananas.
Mine was Wind Waker. I tried and tried to like this game when it came out and then a few times over the next two decades 😳 But then, this Fall, something just clicked and I fell in love with the game. I started a fresh quest and finished it just before Christmas. I took my time and immersed myself in that world. No online hints. No guide books. And some days it took a really long time to find the next plot point. Sailing around side-questing was also so much fun this time around.
Wind Waker - I don’t think I’ve ever truly appreciated what a masterpiece this game is until this most recent play through; It was why I bought a GameCube way back when. Playing it on Wii with Wavebird.
🌙, Ultra 🌙 Just not into this one as much as I thought I would be, or as much as I wanted to be. It’s still too similar IMO. But I did catch a Caterpie earlier 😛 so my Dex is well on its way to completion. Again.
Metroid was my very first NES game when I got it for Christmas in 1987. I’d played (or rather watched) my friends who had it before me but once I got my own copy it was mine, all mine! I’ve been a Metroid fan since. (Although I haven’t played any of the Metroid Prime games)
I’m actually quite excited for the DLC. But I’ve known what to expect with this game from the start (thanks @kategray for your initial review.) And knowing it had issues on the Switch, I’ve been playing it on my iPhone through Apple Arcade. If nothing else, it’s different content from the same events in Animal Crossing Pocket Camp each month.
Like @kategray said, Zelda:Skyward Sword just keeps going. So I’m taking a break and going allllllll the way back to the Atari VCS with the goal of finally finishing “Pitfall!” It has a 20 min time limit. That’s way different from Skyward Sword….

Re: Poll: Which Dormant Nintendo Franchise Would You Most Like To See Return?
I know it’s Hudson Soft’s (now Konami’s) IP but I’d love a 2.5D remake of Faxanadu.

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Franchise Should Illumination Tackle Next?
A stand alone adventure with Samus. Something that isn’t all Ridley and Planet Zebes but enough lore and atmosphere to feel genuine Metroid.

Ratcheteer on the Playdate
Super Mario Odyssey on the Switch (I’ve got just under 150 power moons to go)

Trying for a 1000 point run in “Turtle Bridge.”
And when I’m not procrastiplaying, it’s back to “Oracle of Ages.”

Finish, for real this time, WindWaker. Then, start Ys Book I and II on TG-16 mini.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 10th)
After waiting mostly patiently for Group 3 units to ship, I should finally be able to play “Crankin's Time Travel Adventure” by 9PM tonight!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 3rd)
Mostly late game side-questing in Wind Waker. I’m stalling from heading to face Gannon.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 22nd)
Halloween season == I visit Luigi’s Mansion. This year, it’s Dark Moon and its several mansions.

Playing it on Wii with Wavebird.
Re: Talking Point: What's The Worst Game That You Still Love For Some Reason?
The Karate Kid for the NES.
When I’m in the zone, I can play through it perfectly. No deaths and in around 8 min from first kick to the wink at the end.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 17th)
🐸 Frogger and the Rumbling Ruins on Apple Arcade, where joy-cons are finally supported.

Continuing the sea voyages in Wind Waker on Game Cube. Really, I think this play through is my favorite one yet.

Decided to go back, start over, and properly finish Wind Waker so I’ll be sailing, and sailing, and sailing this weekend.

A little Cozy Grove’n and a lotta Skyward Sword’n.

Pokémon Go Tour: Johto
And my 2 daily allotments of Cozy Grove morsels. Kate was spot on in her review as this is not a game you can binge.

Wario Land: Shake It! on the big screen;
Cozy Grove on the little screen.
