Re: Review: Castlevania Anniversary Collection - You'll Want To Get Your Teeth Into This

LinkSword

I've been playing it for a bit. Since I already played CV I-IV, the other four games are what I'm here for.

Kid Dracula was okay, more of a Mega Man knock-off than a kid-friendly Castlevania when it comes to its gameplay. Castlevania The Adventure was absolutely awful but I'm glad I finally played it. I'm starting Belmont's Revenge now and it's a hell of a lot better. Leaving Bloodlines for last as it'll probably be the best one of the bunch.

Re: One Mortal Kombat 11 Developer Had To See A Therapist After Violent Dreams

LinkSword

Sounds like normal reference research to me. It you're gonna have to animate a whole bunch of people ripping each other apart in creative ways, you should definitely be looking into what the gore, splatters and such look like.

That's obviously not going to be for everybody (case in point), but people here crack me up, acting like the devs were doing something insane.

Re: The Detective Pikachu Movie Reviews Are In, And It's Actually Pretty Mixed

LinkSword

The most negative review out of the ones you pointed out (the 5/10) was clearly written by someone who doesn't know or give a crap about the game franchise, and I'd assume most follow suit, since this is the movie media we're talking about.

I'm not a big fan of Pokemon and I'm not even saying the movie will be great, although the trailers made it seem fun. I'm just saying, if you are a fan, you're probably better off watching it and making your own judgement.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Want Achievements On Switch?

LinkSword

@BloodyMurder Yup, those are the ones. Surprised to hear they're still killing the Nemesis, though! By the time I wrapped up my second playthrough years ago, they were all getting away due to decreased activity. Maybe they lowered their HP, or people are hacking. Either way, cool to know.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Want Achievements On Switch?

LinkSword

I see achievements as simply another feature that adds to the game's replayability, objectives and enjoyment. The bragging rights thing has always felt pointless to me.

If two versions of a game are identical with the exception of one of them having achievements, I'll be buying that one. Not because I need them in my games as a driving force, like addicted achievement hunters do: it's just another thing I like to go for if available.

Would I enjoy an achievement system on Switch? Sure. Can I live without it? Absolutely. Will I buy most of my indies/non-exclusives on PC? Will do.

Re: Random: This Monster Catching RPG For PC Looks Exactly Like Pokémon

LinkSword

So what? It's not like the Pokemon franchise has exclusive bidding to that specific concept.

Imagine if every new "MC is a hero who has to save the world with his party"-type RPG was written off as a rip-off of the ones that came before.

It's not how it works. Why would Pokemon be different? Maybe just report about the new game instead of bringing up, front and center, the IP that everyone already knows about.

Re: BadLand Breaks Its Silence Regarding Delayed Wii U Version Of Axiom Verge

LinkSword

Yeah, no. The guy's a scumbag who went incognito for months, left Tom Happ and LRG hanging with a loss of $78k and kept on releasing games while not even trying to respond to their attempts at communication. It's only now that he and his company are getting roasted to hell and back that all of this is being pulled out of their collective arse.

I find this video sums up pretty well the real, no-nonsense side of the story, if you're curious.

Re: Random: PlatinumGames' Hideki Kamiya Can't Stop Tweeting About Tetris 99

LinkSword

Actually, the tweet of his first win says "YOSSHIYA-AAAAAAAA(...)", which is basically an informal "ALRIGHT" or "AW YESSS" when something goes your way. It's not an "AAAAAHHH" scream. Super trivial stuff, but I'm not sure why you'd write that in the article if you can't read the tweet either.

Anyway, it's cool he's having fun with the game. I like how universally liked Tetris is and how the 99 take resonates with just about everybody.

Re: Block-Bustin' Tetris Pros Share Their Top Tips For Tetris 99

LinkSword

I just select Attackers at the start and try to roll with that. It gets me wins and top 10 placements just fine, but there are some really good pieces of advice here, like targeting people with many badges to steal them. I'm just not used to paying attention to those mechanics in the middle of a Tetris game, but it'd be something to get accostumed to in the future, sure.

Re: EVO 2019 Drops Super Smash Bros. Melee

LinkSword

Ha, worst comment section ever. What a bunch of bitter people. It's one thing not to care about Melee but it's another entirely to be so openly ecstatic about it and its large community getting the boot. Petty.

It's sad about them dropping the game for EVO, but it'll continue to thrive in many other tournaments anyway. Things have changed since a few years back and there are so many other big events. I keep tuning in now and then for the biggest matches, so keep it up guys.

Re: Game Boy Classic Zelda: Link's Awakening Is Getting Remastered For Switch

LinkSword

@Fiyaball I'm in a similar position - I like all Zelda games, but Link's Awakening is on the lower end of the spectrum. I'd rather get another game remade or a new story, but still, this is pretty awesome.

Hopefully the remake will do away with some of the things I didn't like about it, since the concept/setting for the game are actually great.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Balance Isn't A Concern For Masahiro Sakurai

LinkSword

The game was very well balanced at launch (especially compared to the previous Smash releases) and I'm sure that good Japanese players such as Ranai or 9B helping to test it was a major factor there.

It can always use some tweaking, though. Just looking at online stats gives Sakurai a very shallow view of game balance. You have to watch actually good people play to see what needs fixing and what doesn't.

We did just have a balance patch a few days ago, so I'm not concerned about the team disregarding balance issues. They are definitely paying closer attention this time around, and it's also a nice touch they're actually releasing actual patch notes now, with descriptions of what exactly was changed.

TL;DR: Ultimate's future looks great.

Re: Yoshi’s Crafted World Is Getting A Physical Release In Japan With Just A Download Code Inside

LinkSword

Collectors would probably want the cartridge inside rather than just the empty box.

I guess a use I see is for gifting the game to children. Digital will probably be more manageable for them since they won't have to switch cartridges, but they'll get the whole thrill of opening a present box and finding a game inside. Showing them the game being downloaded on the Switch menu doesn't quite have that nice feel to it.
