Re: Soapbox: I'm Tired Of Ports And Remakes - Where Are All Nintendo's New Ideas?

LinkSword

My interest in Nintendo has hit near rock bottom over the past year. At this point my Switch is just there, lying dormant, until I get to play SMTV and BotW2 in 2023 or so.

So yeah, that's a grand two games I want to play on the system that I can't get elsewhere, we don't have release dates for them or anything but teasers, and one isn't even first party.
(And I guess MP4 is a thing, but I might be too old and feeble to hold a controller by the time that's done)

This is my roundabout way of saying that most of Nintendo's IPs are, indeed, stale and boring. You couldn't pay me to play another Mario or Kirby just to name a couple, and Pokemon's been on my ***** list for over a decade.

Re: Random: Mario Maker Player Still Trying To Complete Course After 3,353 Hours

The level seems to be extremely long. I saw what I assume was his most recent segmented run and stopped watching at 6:00 (video was like 14 minutes long). And while all parts of what I saw are beyond technically impressive, some are veeery dull to watch even just one time, so I can't imagine going through them for thousands of hours.

The level starts off with a Panga-like bang and I wish it were much shorter but a lot more consistently like that. But hey, it's his level, so whatever floats his boat. Hope he'll get the clear eventually.

"(...) because online play was only made available to paying Patreon supporters, yuzu goes from being a freely-distributed piece of code to a paid service – which would place it firmly in the sights of Nintendo's legal team."

They could just make the feature available for everyone if that was the fear. I doubt they couldn't afford the increased server capacity when they're earning (just checked) upwards of 13,000€ a month in Patreon subscriptions.

"Receiving a full visual overhaul, local multiplayer, expanded difficulty choices, rebalanced weapons system and more, it begs the question: why Nintendo didn’t use this version for the Switch?"

... Because it's the first game's 30th Anniversary, not the eleventh's?

If the point was simply to present Marth's story, Mystery of the Emblem would have been the best choice, but that's not what they're doing here.

Re: Random: Thanks Fire Emblem, Mother 3 Is Now Trending On Social Media (Again)

@Thirteen1355 Being a whiny manchild for years about a game not being localized is pretty damn pathetic, yes. Especially when there's an absolutely fantastic fan translation for said game.

Anyone who still hasn't played Mother 3 yet endlessly begs for a localization (particularly in totally unrelated news) has no real interest in the game. And if someone has played it and still can't get over the fact it will never be oficially translated, then that's even worse.

And for the record, I dislike most of Nintendo's practices. Doesn't make you bandwagon nutjobs any less absurd.

Re: Genshin Impact Dev Responds To Breath Of The Wild Clone Comments, Insists It's A "Very Different" Experience

@dugan
It's a gacha system where you roll for new characters, who are rated according to rarity (five stars, four stars and so on).

It remains to be seen how generous or restrictive they'll be with the freely obtainable premium currency needed to roll for characters, or how unlikely you'll be to get anything good with free attempts.

Good thing is, though, that as far as I can tell you don't need those extra characters at all to progress through the story, explore and so on. It's at least worth a try, I guess.

It really works very differently, if you bother to actually watch any video showcasing combat or other activities.

Not sure if it'll be any good, but calling it a clone is just part of the noxious culture of pitting everything against the one popular thing that came before - just like this site does with Pokemon and any new RPG that involves monster taming.
