Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season has finally reached its end today, with its final episode 'Take Us Back' now available on Nintendo Switch and other platforms.
As you may well be aware, Skybound Games picked up development of the Walking Dead series after its original developer, Telltale, closed its doors last year. Some members of the original Telltale team joined forces with Skybound to complete the game and the final result of this collaboration can now be fully experienced by players.
Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe has shared the following in a press release today:
“It’s been an amazing experience working with the Still Not Bitten team to finish the final two episodes of TELLTALE’S THE WALKING DEAD for fans. I’d like to thank the team for their dedication to completing Clementine’s story, and the fans for embracing Skybound Games as we worked to help bring closure to a story near-and-dear to so many.”
If you're yet to play any of the final season, here's a quick overview:
After years on the road facing threats both living and dead, a secluded school might finally be Clementine’s chance for a home in THE WALKING DEAD: THE FINAL SEASON. Clementine has become a leader while watching over AJ, an orphaned boy and the closest thing to family she has left. In the aftermath of an explosive plan to save her friends, Clementine must now lead her flock of lost children back home. A herd of walkers, the vengeful raiders, and AJ’s troubled mind all stand in her way. Can she be the savior they need her to be?
As with past seasons, the final season is available from the Nintendo eShop in the form of a season pass which gives you access to all episodes as they are released. Those who have already purchased a pass can get their hands on the new episode today, and buying the pass from today onwards will automatically grant you access to all four episodes, including today's release.
Have you been playing through Clementine's story? Will you be checking out the series' conclusion today? Let us know in the comments.

Getting my physical cart on Thursday I think.
Everybody has to take a drink when reading this article, each time you read the word 'final' or any derivation of that word. That includes the one I just typed.
Skybound Games really came through for those who like this series. It's nice that this series will get a proper wrap-up, and even better they hired some of the original team members too. I tip my hat to you Skybound Games.
It would be nice if they get season 2 up so the whole story is available...
I really gotta buy all these Walking Dead games on Switch at some point. I love the TV show and haven't missed an episode of that, so I'd love to get this on Switch.
...but I'm not sure if I want to if not all of it is available on the system. Once all of it is on there, including the Michonne stuff, I'll probably get it.
@Yosher I’m in the UK, just watched the latest episode last night... wow! They’ve really turned it around this season, I haven’t missed an episode either but I was really finding it a struggle to keep interested more recently.
Great news but still leaves us with the missing middle....
I'd love to get this a I really liked the first season way back on ps3 but I can't support the series.
Really looking forward to playing it when I get back home today. The third episode ended with one hell of a cliffhanger.
@MJInnocent Yeah I hear that from several folks, but I still love the series. There's some lesser episodes, sure, but every series has that, especially ones that have been going on for so long. So far though, the 'drought' moments never lasted that long for me (I think season 5 was the most boring for me), and I've always gladly watched the series.
I take it your reaction there means they've re-captured your interest though?
@Yosher yes absolutely it’s been great recently I’m delighted to say!
@MJInnocent That's great! I wonder if it's because Angela Kang took over as showrunner. Maybe Scott Gimple ran out of steam for the show.
@Yosher whatever she did it was needed. I’ve literally never missed an episode but for the first time my interest was waning... but I’m loving it all over again.
@MJInnocent That's really nice to hear. I hope you're as excited for the season 9 finale as I am! Last night's episode definitely set the tone for quite a season finale episode.
@Yosher absolutely I can’t wait, I hope we both enjoy it!
Would've been interested if ep 4 can bought individually, already seen ep 1-3.
Didn't Skybound hint that the past Walking Dead seasons will still come to Switch?
@Yosher These games are really good, but just make sure you know they take place in the comic universe. I do enjoy the show, but the comics are miles better, I really recommend checking them out.
@The8BitLego I think the games are very much their own universe, just like the comic and TV show are. That said I know the games are good, I've watched playthroughs of the first season.
And regarding the comics; I'd probably get those too, if they weren't so expensive. Like, stand-alone they're not that expensive but getting them all will really jack up the cost and that's just not quite worth it for me right now.
