Fantastic news for a fantastic game. This is easily my favorite beat em up on Switch, and I think having the game grumps voice Bimmy and Jimmy is a real treat.
...that said, I hate that my Limited Run physical copy is effectively meaningless now (because the DLC is not on cartridge) π₯²
I'm really glad there's a new setting and motif for this sequel, otherwise it would feel like "oh this again." And it looks like there's enough new to warrant a purchase, especially for some co-op fun.
Really don't think it's fair to say they're "closing down," when what's happening is their coporate overlords are basically pushing them out of jobs to save a few bucks.
It's not lost on me that these forced layoffs are coming after GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen was sued for $47 million over insider trading.
To be honest, this review is extremely fair, and the comments do not pass vibe check.
A 5 is right on the money. It's not the worst game ever, but it's also not great. It's not even "good, not great." SvC Chaos is very "it's fine."
Glad I bought it digitally, but even happier I didn't burn money on a physical copy.
It was groundbreaking on the initial release. But in the decade-and-a-half (good god) since, it's been done, redone, and outdone by hundreds of indies since. At first release it was clever. But to new audiences, it's "I've seen this already."
You know, after spending a few hours with this game on Switch and Steam...
I'm okay without getting a physical copy π From any vendor.
It's not bad, but... it's also not as great as I remember it being arcades. I'm glad I bought it digitally, but I don't need to spend another $35 USD on it.
@Zeebor15 This one.
I purchased Quake II from Limited Run last year. Ordered in August, was playing in December.
I purchased Arzette this year. Ordered in March, was playing in May.
Limited Run Bad! π¦ Even though they improved Switch production to 5 months from order, which isn't much longer than pre-ordering from Amazon. Still! Limited Run Bad! π¦
I don't usually go for dating sims, but this one sounds like it actually has ambition to do things differently. I can appreciate that. Looks fun. I'll keep an eye on it!
@EVIL-C Long wait times is no different than pre-ordering a game at retail when it's first announced.
Plus the shipping times have gotten way better since late last year.
I didn't buy any 3DO games from them, so I can't speak on that. But every Switch game I've ordered from them has been great.
I feel like this game has gotten a lot of unfair flack, just because it's not as good as Capcom vs. SNK 2 (but what is?).
This is a rock solid fighting game on its own merits, and a lot of fast fun. Try it!
Big fingers crossed this is leading up to a new CvS3 π€π½
EDIT: After playing this game for the first time in well over a decade, my mind has definitely changed π
Super Rare should be bigger than limited run.
Super Rare should be having the popular licenses that limited run has afforded to them.
Super Rare has done so many things right - full transparency during the order process, full transparency about shipping windows, extras with every order, and highlighting the real indie gems that Limited Run wouldn't dream of touching.
I'm too old to care about longwinded intros. I've dropped multiple games that failed to just get to, y'know, the game. People play games to play.
I think another great quote on the subject, comes from John Carmack: βStory in a game is like story in [an adult] movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not important.β
Gameplay first. If the gameplay isn't there in a video game then there is no point.
@Meip Cool things happen by reading articles past the headlines.
"Iβm of course referring to Mother Brain, the cycloptic super-computer and the original Metroidβs final boss encounter. Because Zero Mission includes a brilliant epilogue section that takes place after this fight, the big brain serves as the remakeβs penultimate boss but is still the gameβs most difficult encounter by far. Some even argue that itβs an unfair fight."
I'm too old and too tired of the "git gud" argument.
NO. I actively refuse.
The Mother Brain boss battle sucks, it's not fun, and neither are any other games (and/or parts of games) that are just hard for the sake of being hard.
Games are supposed to be GAMES, and making things obtusely hard for no reason isn't fun. It's work, a chore.
Difficulty for the sake of difficulty isn't good game design, and I'm tired of being told to pretend that it is.

oh thank god.
