Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

Kynwal

I fell for the FOMO and bought it early thinking prices would go up or it would be hard to get. But that hasn't been the case with the ability to even save $50 (with MKW) if I had waited. I've completed Donkey Kong Bananza and I have the Mario Kart World download but haven't tried it and currently have it in the box for storage.

Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?

Kynwal

The Switch2 library is a meh for me being an early adopter. I have two Switch2 required games (Mario Kart and DK) I should have waited later in what's going to be very long lifecycle. The majority of games are ports - which is great for someone who only has a Switch to use - but I've played the majority of them elsewhere without paying full price again. Paying $20 for an 'upgrade' of older games isn't for me. Truth be told I'm old enough to have purchased the original NES deluxe set when it came out.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?

Kynwal

I'll get one. But I've had a lot of expenses lately and I don't see any reason to rush out to get a new version of Mario Kart. I can wait for it to be generally available and have more games/issues resolved.

Re: Talking Point: With Prices Rising, Are Your Gaming Habits Changing?

Kynwal

The cost of Switch 2 games is disappointing but not surprising. I'm skipping the launch as new Mario Kart by itself is not enough of a motivator to drop the money for the Switch2 (And paying for 'upgrades to older games is meh'. The Donkey Kong game is more interesting but still not enough to make me jump through the hoops to buy one right now. The Switch has moved into the category of my other options - I need to see a moving target of must play games before considering it.

I have an XBox, mid-range PC with GamePass, and an OLED Switch. I tend to get games on the system (PC or console etc) that has the best version, best price, mod-ability, etc. and keeping in mind Nintendo is now the only console with exclusives really.

Re: Poll: GameStop Offers A Tempting Switch 2 Trade-In Deal, But Is It Really Worth It?

Kynwal

@pikachupikachup My 7yr old took control of my OG Switch (my 10yr old has a Lite) once I got the OLED. And after the first screen crack...I basically let it go. Then she jammed a card in the wrong way and it damaged the connectors (and the game card - RIP Mario Kart) so it doesn't read any inserted game cards. It works fine docked and in handheld without any carts. -=-0

Re: Opinion: Steam Deck Fans Are Seriously Underestimating The Switch 2

Kynwal

It's the interweebs doing interweb things. Tastes great, less filling. The reason to get the Switch2 is for Nintendo specific IPs for me. I have a PC, Xbox S, Switch OLED. I'll pick up a Switch2 when they have a more robust exclusive library down the road. I don't need or specifically want a SteamDeck as it doesn't offer me anything of value in my current use case scenarios.

Re: Soapbox: Sony's Insane PS5 Pro Price Highlights The Delicate Balance Nintendo Must Strike With 'Switch 2'

Kynwal

$780 (I need the disc drive) for a "45%" improvement on these over a year old games is a big pill to swallow for the general consumer. That is pushing well PC territory for very specific usage. If I spent that on a PC (pre-built or DIY) it can play games AND do a lot of other things.

I'll stick to the base PS5 so I can utilize my PS4 disc library. Right after I get a 4k TV to take advantage of it.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Talks 8-Inch 'Switch 2' Screen, Joy-Con Compatibility

Kynwal

I have an OG Switch, Switch OLED and a Switch Lite. I stopped using the Joycons on my OG Switch after I had to send them in for drift a couple times. The only convenience factor was if I had to take it on vacation and didn't want to pull out a separate controller. Otherwise I use any of the various wireless controllers.
Losing the ability to pull them off wouldn't be a loss for me.

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: TOTK Isn't A Shoo-In For GOTY 2023, And That's A Good Thing

Kynwal

From playtime it is BG3 for me as I have 61hrs into it and I am just getting to the middle of the first act of 3? I believe. My son likes ToTK and finished it. I haven't even started it. Admittedly, I never got far in BoTW either. Open world is just not my cuppa joe anymore.

But as said above - we have been spoiled with great games this year.

Official Vote for Dave the Diver as the dark horse.

Re: Review: Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun - Bold, Bleak, And Bewildering Boomer Ballistics

Kynwal

From Wikidictionary (although there are other examples out there)
boomer shooter (plural boomer shooters)

(Internet slang) A first-person shooter designed to look and play like 90s-era examples of this genre, such as Doom and Duke Nukem 3D.

I am old enough to have played these types of games when they first came out, but I am squarely Gen-X. At any rate, slang be slang. I got this on my PC and it is a nice throwback. It does get a bit overdone on the arena battles but for the money nicely done.

Re: Minecraft Trails & Tales Update Coming To Nintendo Switch This June

Kynwal

@Roz1281 - Correct on the versions. Java can only play with Java.

Be sure to lower your expectations for the Switch version. I gave up on it after having so many issues trying to make it work with my PC copy. I ended up getting an Xbox S and Minecraft runs so much better on there and only the sporadic issues with cross play. And of course the more power makes for a better experience.

Your mileage may vary.
