I fell for the FOMO and bought it early thinking prices would go up or it would be hard to get. But that hasn't been the case with the ability to even save $50 (with MKW) if I had waited. I've completed Donkey Kong Bananza and I have the Mario Kart World download but haven't tried it and currently have it in the box for storage.
The Switch2 library is a meh for me being an early adopter. I have two Switch2 required games (Mario Kart and DK) I should have waited later in what's going to be very long lifecycle. The majority of games are ports - which is great for someone who only has a Switch to use - but I've played the majority of them elsewhere without paying full price again. Paying $20 for an 'upgrade' of older games isn't for me. Truth be told I'm old enough to have purchased the original NES deluxe set when it came out.
I got one via the direct Nintendo offer last week and haven't opened it yet. I decided this iteration feels the same as upgrading my Iphone - new hardware, same software. Which is fine, but not what I was used to from Nintendo. I'm also waiting on DK because I am not a super huge fan of MK.
Hardware Unboxed on their Monitors Unboxed channel did a video on the screen. Yes it's slower than SW1(OG) BUT most people will find it improved in other ways vs SW1.
Nintendo is similar to Disney with their weaponized nostalgia. I've fallen for it many many times (which is why I'd buy a 3rd copy of Wind Waker if they ever released a Switch2 version).
I'll get one. But I've had a lot of expenses lately and I don't see any reason to rush out to get a new version of Mario Kart. I can wait for it to be generally available and have more games/issues resolved.
The cost of Switch 2 games is disappointing but not surprising. I'm skipping the launch as new Mario Kart by itself is not enough of a motivator to drop the money for the Switch2 (And paying for 'upgrades to older games is meh'. The Donkey Kong game is more interesting but still not enough to make me jump through the hoops to buy one right now. The Switch has moved into the category of my other options - I need to see a moving target of must play games before considering it.
I have an XBox, mid-range PC with GamePass, and an OLED Switch. I tend to get games on the system (PC or console etc) that has the best version, best price, mod-ability, etc. and keeping in mind Nintendo is now the only console with exclusives really.
@pikachupikachup My 7yr old took control of my OG Switch (my 10yr old has a Lite) once I got the OLED. And after the first screen crack...I basically let it go. Then she jammed a card in the wrong way and it damaged the connectors (and the game card - RIP Mario Kart) so it doesn't read any inserted game cards. It works fine docked and in handheld without any carts. -=-0
I let my kids take over my OG switch (the screen has multiple cracks and now it won't even read cards) when I got an OLED model. I am a collector of games and systems, so I won't trade in my OLED for sure.
It's the interweebs doing interweb things. Tastes great, less filling. The reason to get the Switch2 is for Nintendo specific IPs for me. I have a PC, Xbox S, Switch OLED. I'll pick up a Switch2 when they have a more robust exclusive library down the road. I don't need or specifically want a SteamDeck as it doesn't offer me anything of value in my current use case scenarios.
I'll look into Echoes of Wisdom after the Switch 2 is announced and if it has backwards compatibility or not for the potential extra power it should provide.
I'll wait to hear more about the Switch 2 and will consider picking it up on the new system. I will definitely pick it up as I didn't really click with the BOTW style game and more prefer this version of Zelda.
$780 (I need the disc drive) for a "45%" improvement on these over a year old games is a big pill to swallow for the general consumer. That is pushing well PC territory for very specific usage. If I spent that on a PC (pre-built or DIY) it can play games AND do a lot of other things.
I'll stick to the base PS5 so I can utilize my PS4 disc library. Right after I get a 4k TV to take advantage of it.
Too bad it isn't for everywhere. My 7yr old trashed my physical cartridge and I have the season pass. I'd prefer to get all the courses on the cartridge vs my account.
I have an OG Switch, Switch OLED and a Switch Lite. I stopped using the Joycons on my OG Switch after I had to send them in for drift a couple times. The only convenience factor was if I had to take it on vacation and didn't want to pull out a separate controller. Otherwise I use any of the various wireless controllers. Losing the ability to pull them off wouldn't be a loss for me.
I watched my son play it yesterday - It reminded me of Ark: Survival/Valheim/Fortnite/Breath of the Wild/Genshin Impact/Pokemon all mashed together into something.
@Debo626 Very much noted. And I'm not sure how much longer I can put off purchasing it. I enjoyed 2 and Torna but I'm just hoping they release it as a physical edition more than anything else like they did with 2 (after I bought the digital DLC). I love me some physical editions.
So that is why they haven't re-re-released Wind Waker they are waiting on the Switch 2 and they want to charge me more money when I get my 3rd copy. Well played, Nintendo, well played.
Still hoping they will release a physical + dlc pack like the last one. In the meantime BG3 has me quite occupied so it is a good excuse to not get it yet.
From playtime it is BG3 for me as I have 61hrs into it and I am just getting to the middle of the first act of 3? I believe. My son likes ToTK and finished it. I haven't even started it. Admittedly, I never got far in BoTW either. Open world is just not my cuppa joe anymore.
But as said above - we have been spoiled with great games this year.
Official Vote for Dave the Diver as the dark horse.
I've never played it - the removal of online doesn't bother me. That almost makes it a perk if it can be played without an internet connection. At any rate, $50 would need a good quality port as close to the original as could be done.
I think I'll get it on PC since it isn't coming to gamepass. Loved the original - but I read a review elsewhere that mentioned the load times on Switch being a downside.
I dug my WiiU out of storage the other day for my son to try The Wind Waker (where is my Switch port Nintendo?!? Ahem.) And then I popped in Boom Blox which is quite fun and needs the sensor to work.
@Dm9982 Same situation here. I tend to to get physical as we have 3 switches. I gave my son a Switch for his birthday and put myself on there so he can play digital games as me...even though we are all on the family plan like you. Ugh.
Hrm...I will look at it for my daughter. It may keep her attention more than the last few ones if you can just mess around. She currently plays the new Goat Simulator game and just runs around making up stories.

@Roz1281 - Correct on the versions. Java can only play with Java.
Be sure to lower your expectations for the Switch version. I gave up on it after having so many issues trying to make it work with my PC copy. I ended up getting an Xbox S and Minecraft runs so much better on there and only the sporadic issues with cross play. And of course the more power makes for a better experience.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 Gets A Seven-Minute Overview Trailer
That is a lot of money especially when the Mario 3d All Stars was 3 games for $60 when it was released. But Nintendo is gonna Nintendo.

I think I'll probably wait for the OLED/better screen refresh they will assuredly release. I can use my OLED SW1 for now.
