Today in 'headlines we didn't expect to be writing in 2021 – or indeed, ever', we bring you the news that a track from SNES classic Kirby Super Star (known as Kirby's Fun Pak in PAL regions) has been nominated for a Grammy.
The prestigious awards ceremony is gearing up for its 64th event and the full list of 2022 nominations has now been posted. The Kirby song in question is Meta Knight's Revenge, although it's actually a cover version of the song that's been nominated, sitting alongside other strong candidates in the 'Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella' category.
You can hear the arrangement below – arranged by Charlie Rosen and Jake Silverman, the track was performed by The 8-Bit Big Band featuring Button Masher:
The 8-Bit Big Band is known for rearranging classic video game tunes for a full-sized jazz orchestra; as you can imagine, the news went down rather well.
If you're interested, or just want to bask in its nostalgic glory, we'll leave the original track for you below:

I was worried you had linked the SiivaGunner version for a second.
Wow…never imagined the rhythm fitted perfectly as a Jazz song … sounds like something out of Cowboy Bebop
As a musician, it’s always fun hearing different songs get adapted to different genres. This is a hilarious achievement for the big band, congrats to them!
I didn't even know the Grammy's HAD an arrangement category. Neat.
Mega knight fans stay winning!
It really sounds pretty good. Meta Knight's Revenge is one of my favorites from that game (and Kirby series) along with Gourmet Race
Oh yeah, the original version is so good, though I really like the Smash Bros arrangement for incorporating the other version of the theme that plays in some of the later portions of the Meta Knight campaign.
Once again, Kirby music for the win! 🌟
Great, another band to add to my collection of videogame adaptation bands/artists!
I adore the 8-Bit Big Band! Congratulations on the nomination!
This makes my nerdy heart so happy <3 I’ve listen to them for years. I’m so happy for them <3 congratulations guys!!!!!
Always great to see video game music recognized as a legitimate art form!
What's funny is I don't even think that's the best Kirby cover by the 8-bit Big Band. Check out their Gourmet Race:

Gourmet Race is slept on as an all-time great videogame composition, and they knock it out of the park.
Awesome! I've been following them for a while, this will gwt them the recognition they deserve!
@swoose Man I love Gourmet Race. It was used at King Dededee's battle theme in Nightmare in Dreamland, and my brother and I would go to the sound room to play it on repeat over and over again. I still remember what number it was in the sound test menu
@fafonio My very first thought was, this sounds so much like Cowboy Bebop!
Last song I thought I'd ever see nominated for a Grammy, but I'm not complaining
I legit thought the song you posted at the bottom was the SiivaGunner for a moment lmao
@serialsid an example of a BC making an impact (promise not to
@ you annoyingly after this one!)
Awesome news.
The 8-Bit Big Band are awesome. Check out their cover of Birdman from Pilotwings 64. I have no idea how to post a link to it but it's well worth searching it out...
AND IT DESERVES TO WIN. Kirby in general, completely underrated and under estimated. Jun Ishikawa gonna get a shout out and he deserves it. 8-Bit Big Band's version is awesome.
Damn I love that music, Nice to see it getting the spotlight.
@fafonio The Smash Bros. version was already pretty jazzy.
Anyway, a great song from one of the best games ever.
They got like 6 songs/albums across all categories this year, it won't be a nail biter for most!
Really cool they nominated this arrangement though!! ♥️
@Krisi Kirby Superstar is my favorite game. Adore it and yes the music is so good!
That's pretty nuts. Very classic game with very classic music (Gourmet Race). Glad it got a Grammy nomination!
Not a fan of that rendition. Changes it too much.
Like other people have said, the Smash Bros version is really great.
