Following on from the news that we could be getting more NES and SNES games this week, Nintendo has now added three classics to its Switch Online service.
The titles joining the service on this occasion include Congo's Caper (Data East, 1993) and Rival Turf! (Jaleco, 1992) for Super Nintendo, along with Pinball (Nintendo, 1983) for NES.
Japan this month gets Rushing Beat (Rival Turf!), Pinball, and the 1994 Super Famicom title Umihara Kawase in place of Congo's Caper. Umihara Kawase is definitely worth a look if you're into platform games, and would like to see how this first entry in the series started out.
Of course, to access all of these games, you'll need to have a subscription to Nintendo's Switch Online service. Will you be trying out any of these titles on the SNES and NES Switch Online service? Tell us down below.

Should've been Kirby's Star Stacker.
I might try out some of these though
Alright, I need to ask, what is Japan getting?
I genuinely think people would rather have nothing at this point.
Yawn
Just waiting on Super Mario RPG at this point.
@Snatcher : I don't know, but if you create a user profile linked to a Japanese NNID, and you have an active NSO subscription (even on your non-Japanese account), you can access the Japanese NSO games.
So, apart from that minor inconvenience, people have no real reason to be so bitter about Japan receiving additional games, as they're technically accessible irrespective of one's region. I have a Japanese account mainly for downloading demos and gauging whether or not Japanese physical releases will contain English support (in the absence of a Western physical release).
still no scrunt?
@Snatcher umihara kawase
@Snatcher Just updated the Japanese apps and Japan got Pinball on the Famicom/NES and Rival Turf (Rushing Beat) and Umihara Kawase for the Super Famicom/SNES.
This time, Umihara Kawase is the real deal. That's what I'm playing from this batch. Thank you Game Center CX for showing me that game.
Rival turf is a bad game but it’s my jam fr! Also WHERES WAVERACE
...Gee, thanks. Love ya, Nintendo. Keep raking in that cash, you've earned it.
I like video games so this makes me happy.
@Snatcher They got some pretty interesting looking 2D platformer fishing game. It honestly looks pretty fun and I'll probably give it a try
Called it. Pinball is the only half decent notable game, other two are bottom of the barrel games I've never heard of before.
@Snatcher Umihara Kawase instead of Congo's Caper.
I'm glad they are still adding to the service, but mostly waiting/hoping for game boy to be added later this year.
Congo's Caper and Rival Turf are two okay games here but c'mon Nintendo Pinball, you couldn't give us a game like Karnov, Ninja Gaiden 2, or Willow. I feel that at this point Nintendo is just throwing every cheap game from the EverCade onto this service cause these are basically every game you could get on the EverCade, minus Pinball of course.
TERRANIGMA YOU COWARDS!!!!!!!!!!
Amusing part about this update... I bought Rival Turf a few weeks ago on Wii U, and was looking up pinball games on my Switch, lol.
Looking forward to playing Rival Turf with a friend, had fun with the Wii U version, so good to know I can play it online now.
I mean, it’s a stealth drop, so they weren’t hyping these games at all. However, these titles (except Pinball), would’ve never seen a Virtual Console release at all.
Hopefully, Nintendo will have some surprises for the service for their June Direct in replacement for E3.
I'll take Pinball, we're getting ever closer to all the NES Remix Pack games on NSO (the only ones left are Golf and Urban Champion). Would be neat if NES Remix Pack came to Switch soon after those 2 games came to NSO.
Still to this day i have no idea how they thought the Rival Turf cover was good
A glance at Pinball, it's already better than the others. Still no Mario RPG, oh wait I get to play monkey game 2 and muscle man beats up another muscle man in the city.
...grreeeaatt...
Where can I lobby, formally, for Captain Skyhawk?
@The_Top_Loader
Boss: How much did you spend on the cover for our newest game, "Rival Turf"?
Underlings: We spent $78 dollars sir and one foot long sub sandwich to give to the two boys for the photo shoot.
Boss: I will allow it. Well done.
@somebread @Silly_G @Blooper987 @Liam_Doolan OMG, I wasn’t expecting so many of you to reply, thank you guys.
Quick note to say that Umihara Kawase is a genuinely great game. It requires no knowledge of the Japanese language to play and is worth registering a Japanese Nintendo account all by itself.
@Sonos
Underlings: it was a 3 dollar sub Monday at Sgt. Subs, and we found the hip teens there
Boss: where did the rest of the cash go
Underlings: the backdrop...
Boss: you're getting a raise!
Not terrible, but more of the same mediocrity I've come to expect from switch online.
Oooh new games!
C'mon... I mean. Thanks for more games but couldn't they do better? I am still waiting for the rest of ninja garden, double dragon, battletoads, chip & dale, blades of steel., Cybernator, breath of fire, mickey and looney tunes games, Star wars, spiderman, death of superman, ewj....
Well uh, at least Pinball's finally been added. Was weird that it was missing to begin with, but it's here now. Again, not the greatest selection, but at least they're adding stuff period.
@Strictlystyles Yup. Wave Race is truthfully, all I care about. Where is it indeed?
@YinYangYoshi Yeah, when I see these articles I sometimes get kinda excited but it's usually some obscure SNES game called Snail Blooper or something.
Are you f#$#ing kidding me?
Out of all of the amazing obscure NES games, they go ahead and choose basic as hell Pinball
The virtual console sucks, they said...
It should be replaced, they said...
🙄🤦♂️
One of the few NES games I still have around is a pinball game, though it’s a different one, mine has a robot on the cover.
Take a shot every time Nintendo adds an SNES caveman-related game to NSO.
Also, I had no idea Pinball wasn't on there yet. Figured it would have already been on the service from day one, lol.
It's almost June, so while this is a very underwhelming drop, it's the lull before the news storm. Pokémon Snap is the last N64 game to release that we know about, so I would expect some major news on what is coming next to NSO. Maybe it's too soon for another platform--Game Boy will probably be announced in the Fall--but they could show us the next six months' worth of N64 games at the very least. My assumption would be the original Smash Bros. for July, followed by Pilotwings in August, Banjo-Tooie in September, Mario Party in October, Diddy Kong Racing in November, and Mario Party 2 in December. The next Direct would also be a great time to announce Super Mario RPG coming to the service.
This is dire, any worse and I might start believing in rumors to ease the pain.
Wasn't excited until I saw Umihara Kawase, that's actually kinda amazing.
These are not classics. These are just old.
Come on, Nintendo, you've got a better available backlog than this.
Best service ever.
Heads of Sony and Microsoft " Switch is killing it, we need to damage them somehow. Sir they've announced some new games to NSO. Ha ha cancel that they're doing the work for us!"
Those names... MEGA64 INTENSIFIES
You can't go wrong with Pinball, though.
Maybe I’ll give Pinball a go. Otherwise meh.
@Wolf_Link I had to double check because I was pretty sure, and indeed both Breath of Fire games from SNES are on there. III and IV were PS1 games. But yeah, strange that some series aren’t complete.
Thought Rival Turf was already on there?
I played a ***** ton of rushing beat / Rival Turf as a kid. It's quite decent as far as Final Fight clones go.
but yeah, Scrunt when?
Congo's Caper looks decent enough, I'll atleast try that one out.
I think I might have played Congo’s Caper before. Man that game looks familiar. But these Jaleco beat ‘em up games just don’t do it for me. Waiting on Capcom to drop Final Fight 2 and 3.
Whoever is in charge of putting games on the service really likes caveman games.
Pinball... clearly the greatest NES game ever made, now available to the masses via Nintendo Switch Online.
The avatar speaks for itself.
Welp, instantoatmealhead was right about it. There ya have it.
Don't be fooled, Congo's Casper is good I tell you!
Congo's Caper and Pinball are good, but Rival Turf is garbage.
Umihara Kawase is the star for me, so I'll be on Super Famicom NSO.
@Porky and it's a good thing to have more games that people never heard of
@Serpenterror Those are third party games. It's up to them to release them, not Nintendo.
1 NES game? Oh dear…
I really don't care about these low-profile SNES & NES games. In 20 years when low budget & third party GameCube games are re-released for a new Nintendo system, will people feel like I do right now about this announcement?
I'm just here for The Guardian Legend.
Test Drive 2?, Sim City?...
Sigh
Oh well...
Why are so many people dissing Congo Caper? Has anyone even played it? It looks fun.
@Not_Soos They desperately need steam for the N64 Online, especially in its current state. I'm hoping that the drip feed was just to stall getting licenses, but I'm not holding my breath.
Another L for Nintendo, another W for Tetra's crew if you catch my drift
Next offerings will be Urban Champion for the NES and Chuck Rock for the SNES, based on the theme.
So a batch of games that no one asked for, and they probably licensed on the cheap. It's cool that they keep adding to the service but if they want to keep people interested they have drop games people actually care about, and if that means forking over the money to do so, than so be it. This crop of games is as generic as it gets, and all it does is drive people away from the service.
I only pay for online to play tetris 99 and splatoon 2 matches, The games are just an okay bonus, and honestly, I'd rather keep the selection lame if it keeps them from raising the price.
The box art for rival turf owns
@YinYangYoshi There are a lot of beat 'em up fans who like Rival Turf and Congo's Caper also has some what of a following. Personally, I actually liked Pinball and may try it out a bit. Still, while I would rather have something than nothing, I don't disagree with your overall point that this isn't even remotely an exciting release and most people won't care.
@Eel
Ooo, maybe you own the NES port of PIN-BOT, the old Williams pinball table?
I’ve never seen the NES game, but the actual pin is a beloved classic ❤️
If Switch Online is sucked in a black hole does it make a sound? Will it matter?
Ironically, I was playing Pinball FX when the news broke tonight. I “flipped” over the news that NES Pinball had arrived!
Ok, not really, but it was still cool to be reminded how far video game pinball sims have come.
And that Umihara Kawase game looks like legit fun. I’ll try at some point.
Not bad. I've always wanted to play Conga Capers, and I remember Pinball being quite enjoyable. Definitely could of been considerably worse. I'm still waiting for Super Smash TV, Uniracers, and Weaponlord on the service.
The Joe & Mac and Rushing Beat series has now been completed on NSO. Unless they also want to give us NES and Genesis Joe & Mac 1.
@Porky
“The other two are bottom of the barrel games I’ve never heard of before.”
So, they’re bottom of the barrel because you’ve never heard of them before?
I really hope to get back to releasing something monthly.
@ATaco Yeah get ready for Chuck Rock soon cause that may be next.
@HoChiMinh Unfortunately because of Disney Uniracers will never be released again.
It's like even Nintendo forgot Star Tropics got a sequel.
Oh well, Pinball is decent but kinda dated.
@Scposteel Yeah but c'mon being able to play Rival Turf multiplayer co-op online for the first time is a blessing. Remember these are the kind of game we wish have online play back then with XBand and even then it wasn't supported. This is what Final Fight 1 should had been and didn't.
@DK-Fan Pretty sure Nintendo had to ask for them.
@Serpenterror Yeah, I was just thinking that they've got almost all of the caveman games. And I don't think there were any other caveman eras in gaming, so perhaps literally almost all of the caveman games.
What exciting looked forward to titles! This will surely make me get NSO again so I can rent these classics!
It's hard to say how many hours my friend and I spent playing Pinball on his NES. I'm gonna boot the NES app later just to relive it for a little bit. I love this game!
Ooh, Pinball! I know that. I don't really understand why we don't get Japanese games too thought, I played some of them just fine as a kid.
Still waiting for Battle City, Metal Storm and maybe Clash at Demon's Head?
Congo's Caper is pretty damm neat, and I sure won't say no to another beat'em up and another pinball game, but the main highlight for me here is Umihara Kawase. A bummer not to have it right here after the game already saw western shores together with Sayonara UK+ on Vita, but that edition is on my wishlist anyway, and I'll definitely try the OG here - the gameplay itself seems hardly text-heavy.
@YinYangYoshi and you're genuinely wrong. It would be one thing to feel underwhelmed about updates to the expansion pack which mainly revolves around the CGC lineups, but all this stuff here comes as an occasionally growing bonus to the twenty bucks per year most subscribers pay to visit others' Animal Crossing islands and to secure their bajillion hour BotW saves. Local commenters tend to sound hilariously snobbish about these updates as if the entire NES and SNES libraries aren't an emulator away on any CFW'd semi-recent handheld [or other devices], with blackjack and translation patches. Personally, I treat these lineups as "legal access" tokens for the aforesaid, although it's always nice to see them land overdue localisations or just spotlight stuff a lot of people may have overlooked back in the day.
@Thomystic we have modern caveman-themed games here and there as well (my own Switch library boasts at least two), but yeah, those seemed to be the days. Of course, their presence on NSO won't be complete without some NES offerings like Trog, maaaaybe Flintstones (on the off chance in hell that anyone could necrolicense that stuff nowadays) and especially Big Nose the Caveman - another damn fun game from my childhood, but save states and rewinds of NSO's kind are almost obligatory features if you want to actually beat it (the game is relatively long and yet not known for adhering to the concept of "continues"). Heck, maybe they could even prod EA - assuming the latter still hold the publishing rights - for some Caveman Games.
@SmaggTheSmug Battle City is an arguably bigger icon of the post-Soviet 8-bit era than Mario himself (at least in Belarus) and would make a great addition here as the western public wasn't even exposed to it way back when, but I'm not holding my breath after Bamco already put it on sale in one of their own collections on Switch.
@YinYangYoshi One man's garbage is another man's nostalgia. I hope they keep going until they release everything that was in the 168in1 Pegasus cartridge, although Contra is likely off the table.
@YinYangYoshi just consider it as game preservation!
Lol the obligatory "WHERE'S SUPER MARIO RPG COMMENT"
Screw you, nes pinball is my jam.
Wonderful 3 games I've never even heard of or care about except for the basic boring pinball game thanks Nintendo keep up the good work 👍
Is that a joke?
Lol… what kind of bootleg Joe & Mac is that? It has also got a Devil Boss inside a dinosaur stomach?
Nothing is sacred anymore
@YinYangYoshi 100% agreed. I'm not going to play these so there may as well be nothing.
@YinYangYoshi Such comments are just expected at this point, but is how is having nothing better than having more games that you don't have to play?
@YoshiF2 its from the same devs and part of the same series
@Porky How do you know they're bottom of the barrel if you never played them?
(sorry, my mistake, you said "heard of". Well, that is even more on the point.)
Well fans of Caveman themed shovelware platformers are VERY well catered for with the forth SNES entry in the genre
Give us super spy hunter
@YoshiF2 It actually is the second Joe & Mac game.
The final game was called Joe & Mac 3 in Japan and Europe, but I guess they decided to market it as a separate game in North America.
@Serpenterror Well, Chuck Rock was a Core Design game which I think means Square-Enix owns the rights to it. So, I think it's safe from being rereleased.
Well, it sure seems like the SNES online service has the whole caveman game thing covered by now. So many titles we’ll never see on there, yet there’s now 4 games in this one “genre”. Maybe they’ll give us the Flintstones game and Super Bonk next.
@abbyhitter same!
@Porky So if you haven't played it how do you evaluate it? Congo's Caper is actually quite good. I love fighting a prehistoric demon inside a T-Rex.
The more the merrier. By the time the Switch 2 comes out, this service should be packed with games. Still plenty of good ones to go at Nintendo...just saying, ahem.
@Teksetter yup that’s it!
It’s funny but I don’t think my older brother played it a lot, because I have close to zero memories about it. Looking at videos of it, it looks rather impressive for the NES.
@Not_Soos Totally agree. Glad to get Pinball, but all of the black box games should have been there from the start.
every update we getting ***** games and next time its worser lol
@Axecon yep and they'll tell you "Why would anyone play these OLD games. They look so <future word for trash>."
Blinks and starts playing a F2P advertisement experience directly in their retinas, the pinnacle of future gaming
How are people not happy about Congo's Caper and Umihara Kawase? I'm starting to think that people here don't even like retro games... but then why do you care?
I think I might have to stop reading the comments under these articles, because they just depress me.
I'm glad to see these kind of games on NSO. You know, games that I have never played. I'd rather have some hidden and obscure games than those games that I have played on other platforms already.
You know it's gonna be good when none of the titles make the headline 🥴
@YinYangYoshi,
Which people would rather have nothing?, you, people on here and other forums, far to little information to speak for everybody.
I must admit there are far more titles that I would prefer, although I do like to try games I have never played, or might not have considered buying if they were individually priced.
This service could have been amazing and Nintendo outdid themselves in fumbling every single aspect about it.
@kingbk I don’t know why Nintendo bothers with Jaleco games. They seem to be mostly bad. Especially when there are still a lot of good SNES and NES games not available yet
@KingMike @bustacap oh wow, didn’t know that! Thanks!
Well, they added 3 games last month, 3 this. An update a month is pretty respectable I reckon. Hope they continue this trend (although I have probably jinxed it now.)
Wow, umihara kawase is a great little physic based game.
it really feels like an indie game which is interesting for a SFC cartridge
@roboshort Jaleco titles are easy ones to licence I would imagine, I think there's bound to be a struggle getting some of these old games people are after when other companies have been doing their own re-releases - and to add to that software companies that have gone out of business.
@Krisi It's always been this way with Nintendo's retro services. I remember the comments during the Virtual Console years, every week it was 'Rubbish update. Where's Mega Man (insert number)'.
The Japanese versions of Pinball and Rival Turf look way better than the Western versions!
And Umihara Kawase looks awesome!
Pinball is cool, one of the original release games for the NES in both US and Europe.
Hey Nintendo, you know, we actually WANT games like Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger and Terranigma, some of the best games in the system. Not this!
Meh... Whether they like it or not, we will have to emulate at the end.
@Grumblevolcano You were bang on the money.

As for the games themselves:
Still no Axelay or Actraiser. 🙄
They should add every top games to the service first, not useless/mediocre games of NES / SNES era.
Then, just add new console to the service like the GB/GBC and GBA.
Simple.
Look at the video's comment section on youtube and compare it to here. On youtube everyone seems to love the update but here on a nintendo fan site everyone seems to (unsurprising for this website) hate it.
Seems to me people here are just jaded.
That said: sure these games don't interest me aside from Congo's Caper but I'm not gonna throw a fit over it.
I am curious who owns the Data East/Jaleco rights at this point. There doesn’t seem to be an option put on the table they won’t license to. It appears only the bottom of the barrel third parties will license for the service at this point.
@Fizza those games were part of a series in Japan.
Checked out the Japan video and thought the one with the little girl and the grappling hook looked super cool!
@YinYangYoshi agree... a waste of space
@johnvboy It's been a while since we've seen one of these comment sections, any surprises or is it pretty much the same as the last one? People using the word "we" when they mean "I", people asking for games Nintendo didn't even make, and much more. Me not caring a jot and enjoying the dumpster fire. Still, something to flick through on a Friday afternoon...
@Fizza Congo’s Quest is part of the Joe & Mac series, while Rival Turf is the first of the Rushing Beat series (it’s name in Japan) which includes Brawl Brothers and Peace Keepers.
@ATaco Then hopefully we'll get Chuck Rock for the Mega Drive / Genesis soon! That was fun, albeit a little generic. It was a good generic.
On a separate note I've been waiting for Pinball. I would have got the arcade archives one if it ever went on sale but they always seem to discount the others.
@Bass_X0 I thought Congo's Quest looked familiar! I quite liked Joe & Mac myself so I'll definitely give it a fair shake in due time then!
Awesome Games! Patiently waiting for the comeback of Paperboy
Literally just waiting on mario rpg, come on already nintendo!
Cool, I’ll give Congo Capers and Umihara Kawase a go.
You know, I'm looking at the first party games on the NES and SNES and realizing there really isn't much left that they could reveal that I would be excited about. At least not anything that isn't all wrapped up in legal red tape. Super Mario RPG has part ownership from Square. I know there's a lot of legal issues with Yoshi's Cookie. I don't know if there's anything else I could expect that would be that exciting.
I said it before and I will say it again: Stop asking for Game Boy, GBA, GameCube or others, because in the end, this will be like putting a band-aid on the problem, you asked for SNES games, you got it, the service still sucks, you asked for N64 games, you got it, the service still sucks.
First, we need games coming faster and Nintendo giving us the NES and SNES games we want, then we move to other consoles, soon, the N64 games will start sucking and they will only give us the N64 games no one cared even back in the 1990s.
I'm 80 hours into the N64 app so it's fine by me, but these titles are worthless, seriously.
Hopefully gb/gba games are coming soon.
@Kazman2007 far too much logic.
The kind of games that I deliberately skipped in the video store in the 80's and 90's, when all of the good games were checked out, so I ended up spending my allowance money on red licorice and ranch flavored corn-nuts and went back to speed-running the games I already had.
Edit:
Holy crap, there were a lot of generic caveman-ooga-booga games back then.
I'd complain about what they added, but thinking about it all my NSO subscription's currently good for is cloud saves, as it's been a while since I touched the included games or played online.
Still hoping for Wave Race to be added.
Wow. A whole 3 new games. This is one of the reasons I haven't renewed my Nintendo subscription. Easier to emulate the games instead. And that goes for current gen Switch games to. Nintendo like to do things their way. Well their way is losing them money 😂
@Wolf_Link Breath of Fire 1 + 2 are on there…
Congo is good fun and Pinball is a classic. Rival Turf however is bad.
@somebread Did you pick up Mega64's Scrunt shirt? I wish I did!
I used to really like Rival Turf. Mostly because there was a code so you could change every characters name in the game. And because it had a hidden area which Final Fight didn't.
@WiltonRoots,
Always fun though, pretty sure some other outrage is only just around the corner.
Umihara Kawase looks really great! I'd never heard of it, but those grapple mechanics look sick.
@Silly_G Thanks for the tip, I had never tried the Nintendo Online games that way, and I'll be giving it a try.
Thanks to others sharing actual experience and knowledge about the lesser known games. It's hard to put them in context sometimes, and knowing where these games sit in history, who made them, what reputation they may have is really helpful.
This site has roots in tracking/reviewing all the classic games for virtual console, so I wonder if there is room for a set of lesser-known retro game release articles...
More drip fed tedium
@Darknyht When Data East went defunct in 2004, its IP was sold off to multiple buyers.
I believe the entire Jaleco catalog was sold off to a company named "City Connection". I'm guessing it's not a coincidence that was the name of a game Jaleco produced (probably one of their first games that could be classified as a "hit" game).
@LavaTwilight Certainly Square-Enix owns Chuck Rock. It was made by Core Design, best known for Tomb Raider.
Pinball looks neat. I think I remember playing that as a kid. The two SNES additions, though, seem like the sort of middling stuff I avoided back in the 90s. They seem to have their fans, though, judging from the YouTube comments, so maybe I shouldn't prejudge. (Congo's Caper, especially.)
@eltomo I'm sure Pinball is the same game in all regions, just different cover art.
Rival Turf! though, reportedly the entire trilogy (that it started) got content cut in localization.
@KingMike oh I dont know... I wasn't into game devs at the time. There are 3rd party games on the online library though so it's not impossible... just need permission but not sure how forthcoming that would be.
@johnvboy The thing is some of the greatest titles from the SNES era are by the likes of Capcom and Konami and Square (add Enix to that too but they're now part of the same company). They've looked and said rather than let Nintendo get all the glory, let's sell our SNES back catalogue as compilations or remasters off our own back to make more money for us, rather than getting peanuts for their online subscription royalties.
Want Megaman? Buy Capcom's compilation. Want more Contra? Konami's got it covered. Games you will actually own too.
@WiltonRoots,
Ah but the complainers want thing both ways, as you say lots of retro games available to buy on the Switch e-Shop.
@johnvboy True, why would anyone want SNES Final Fight when you can get the far superior arcade version as part of Capcom's Beat Em Up Bundle. Same with Street Fighter.
@Arkay It's not that. Despite being a middle aged adult in his mid 40s and owning the SNES and NES since launch I never saw these games in stores here in Ireland, well at least where I live so naturally these particular games do nothing for me. I never complain normally it's just I was expecting more than what's offered here.
Usually I'm very easy to please and very enthusiastic all the time. Go to my Profile you won't see any comments of me complaining. I might have made the odd bit of criticism here and there but that's it.
@RubyCarbuncle your point was valid. Others make it seem as if it's the end of the world.
@Mikmoomamimocki Wait, they got Snail Blooper??!?
@nhSnork Maybe TG-16 will eventually be brought. If not, I could go for some Chuck Rock. And I know Adventure Island is kinda on Switch in Wonder Boy Returns Remix, but the sequels are probably the next highly regarded caveman games behind Bonk.
I literally expect nothing when it comes to these snes and nes updates and I’m still disappointed 😂
Don’t think I’ll be renewing my subscription
Was looking foward to playing the n64 games even that’s not possible as the n64 controllers are impossible to by come.
@WiltonRoots,
Funny thing is I haven't got enough tie to play all my new games, never mind old retro ones.
Meanwhile, flash carts are looking really nice right about now.
YES! Finally some games worth a damn
@WiltonRoots Nostalgia maybe. But also console versions are usually designed to be much fairer than their arcade counterparts.
SNES Gradius III is a reasonably finish able game. Arcade Gradius III does not hide its lust for your (now ficticious) quarters at all.
Watching one of my favorite streamers finish arcade Final Fight, the last scene has a group known as the Hit Squad for a reason. It throws a stupid amount of enemies at the player, way more than a Super Nintendo could even think of rendering.
With so many great missing games (i hear), why are they wasting time on quantity over quality? They will never convince people like me to buy NSO by only adding games like this. I want Mario RPG, though i bought it on wii, but can't play it without hooking the system back up & buying a controller for that 1 game (i left batteries in my wiimote, like a dummy, but i think it requires a classic controller anyways), & I'd rather just buy 1 month of NSO to play it.
I thought Rival Turf was already on it. 😂
My brain just sees crappy Jaleco games all as one and the same I suppose.
@Thomystic
What I would do for PC Engine / Turbo games on the Switch.
@robr part of me thinks that might be another part of the expansion pass down the line. I've never played any PC Engine games but they would be a great addition.
@KingMike you have a good point there, some of those old coin ops were pretty brutal!
I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that actually in-demand SNES games will be announced at a direct. So the next time there's a "maintenance update", I'll expect it to be Super Black Bass or Pit Fighter.
What is up with all these Caveman themed games?! I know the SNES was from way back in the day but c'mon this is kinda ridiculous. Japan got a super cool game, I am so gonna be playing Umihara Kawase, it looks amazing!
@YoshiFlutterJump Hopefully next time we do get Kirby Superstar Stacker, that would be fantastic & it is definitely a big must!
@Chibi_Manny Cavemen are cool and guaranteed to bring dinosaurs with them, which are even cooler. The more cavemen games the better in my opinion.
Cool.
[An obligatory string had been intentionally placed here]
@Kehkou
Yeah...was about to post a list when...never mind.
Just one game then... Wave Race 64
@Vriess
That, too.
@Wolf_Link Why would you ever expect licensed games like many of those you listed in the first place? The others likely either have their rights in limbo, or their companies aren't supporting NSO (and for good reason).
@abbyhitter @Moonlessky "Super Mario RPG" is never coming, as it's partially owned by Square-Enix, who clearly aren't supporting NSO.
@MasterGraveheart Like what? Exactly which fully Nintendo games (which doesn't include "Super Mario RPG") that aren't Japan-only releases or have other issues (like "Duck Hunt") from the NES and SNES are we still waiting for? There aren't many 1st and 2nd party games left that they can give us, while most 3rd parties aren't supporting the service (for good reasons).
@Scposteel "Forking over the money" isn't the issue. Most 3rd parties have no reason to support NSO when it's much more profitable to make their own compilations, remasters, and remakes, even if not all of them come to the Switch. At least with the Virtual Console, they actually got paid for each sale.
@the_beaver Hey, you know that Square-Enix isn't supporting NSO, don't you? Why would they?
Plus, "Terranigma" would have to be localized for North America, which Nintendo rarely bothers doing even with their 1st and 2nd party games with these services, so a 3rd party certainly isn't going to bother to do so.
Rival Turf is pretty fun, ive smashed a fair bit of time into it previously. Pinball is ok for a while. Havent played Congo yet, might be ok. I'm happy they added some new games.
Wow, haven’t seen Rival Turf since I was a kid browsing though the games at my local Movie Gallery to decide what to rent for the weekend. Good memory.
