Camelot's classic fantasy RPG series Golden Sun doesn't really get much attention nowadays, but it's still a significant part of the Japanese developer's history. With this in mind, the official company website has apparently been updated recently with some high-quality renders.
The news was shared by a number of eagle-eyed Golden Sun fans across social media platforms like Twitter. As noted below, it's great to see the series and characters like Isaac and various elemental djinn getting some love:
What does this all mean then? While we would like to be able to say it's a sign of things to come, it's probably just Camelot paying respect to its beloved RPG series.
The Golden Sun series began life on the Game Boy Advance in 2001. It was followed by a sequel in 2002 (Golden Sun: The Lost Age) and eventually received the Nintendo DS instalment, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. Since then, Isaac has also featured as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Would you like to see this series make a return one day? Have you played Camelot's latest release Mario Golf: Super Rush yet? Leave a comment down below.

Can't wait for everyone to be angry that Nintendo hosted a Direct and it closed with another JRPG and not BOTW4.
I love Golden Sun. The first two are great, the third one needed more time in the oven and permanently missable djinn was a big no-no. Maybe we'll get a collection for Switch?
@SuperCharr Am unsure if you're being facetious?
Isaac for Smash confirmed
@SuperCharr There have been three games already (2 on GBA, 1 on DS). I'd like to see all those 3 get an HD remake. A 4th entry would be nice, too.
I'm not getting my hopes up that this means anything. But it'd be nice.
@Tempestryke He is kinda correct as Golden Sun Book 1 & 2 The Lost Age were originally suppose to be just one game for the N64. It got split into 2 games when it got demake for GBA. I had a feeling if this is a new game coming it'll probably be the second half of Dark Dawn's story and not a new chapter of the series. This new one will probably focus on Felix, Piers, Eoleo (son of Briggs), Jenna, Feizhi, Takeru (brother of Himi), Nowell, Mia, Hamma, Ivan, Aaron (Garet's brother), Kay (Garet's sister), and Sheba, characters that were mention or reference in Dark Dawn but were not seen in-game or made brief appearances.
@SuperCharr Not a very funny joke, considering the third game was great. Maybe not a masterpiece, but still great.
I soo want this game to make a comeback. Was addicted to this.
I need my Djinn fix! Hopefully there's something out of this.
I wanted to get the original on Gameboy Advance back when it first released but for whatever reason never did. To this day I have never played any of these and would definitely buy ports or remasters of them.
Time for them to bring Shining Force and Golden Sun fans together with a Golden Sun Tactics game.
I hope they bring Golden Sun 1&2 to the Switch! I'd pay full price for both games! Not the 3rd one though. Dark Dawn sucked.
Never played Golden Sun, but I am a huge fan of their Mario Tennis GBC and GBA games. To this day, no Mario Tennis has come close to the content that Camelot put out on those cartridges. An actual RPG with a fun, lighthearted plot and engaging mechanics; honestly these two games need an HD remake.
Never forgotten with yours truly. I do hope SOMETHING gets done with this franchise, be it HD remaster or a 4th entry on the Switch.
Of course more Golden Sun please. Had a good time with the first entry on the Wii U.
Don't do this. Don't give me hope...
Isaac says that "The road we've walked will become history" in case someone's wondering.
@moodycat i enjoyed it to be honest. Well your opinion.
GBA online or a port of GS 1&2, I'd be happy either way!
The 2 GBA Golden Sun games would be a perfect fit for a collection similar to Advance Wars (FE6 and FE7 would be another perfect fit).
I'll admit, I'm not sure if I'd trust current Camelot with Golden Sun, seeing how they botched Mario golf and tennis. Then again, those being botched is probably also Nintendo's fault.
Well, we'll see what happens I suppose. Here's hoping for a good new entry!
One can dream and boy do I want to dream about Golden Sun getting another instalment, or a collection on Switch.
not getting my hopes up for Golden Sun Nintendo hates the series because it doesn't sell
I really want a sequel to dark dawn just to see how it ends. But I'd take an hd remake of the first 2 any day!
I would love to see a Golden Sun strategy rpg spinoff. It would essentially be a Shining Force spiritual successor.
I would love to see Nintendo give some of their older titles a new lease of life like they did for Famicon Detective club and Advance Wars with the high-end remakes. It feels like a fairly safe way to test the waters of bringing and IP back to expand their catalogue again as nostalgia will ensure the remakes cover their costs and if they do really well beyond that they know the market is there for a new entry.
i am hoping for a switch golden sun collection remake..
I'd love to see either a rereleased version or a new one. Golden Sun was too amazing of a game and system to just let wither on the vine. Use Growth on it and get it back into play!
My heart skipped a beat maahhhnn
I'm not asking for a new Golden Sun. I did that once, and what we got was the abysmal Dark Dawn.
I would like the original duology to be remade, or at the very least re-released for those not around 20 years ago when the series was at its height.
Think about it: they only do 3 series. There has never been more than one Mario Golf or Tennis on a console. The Switch already has both. They have to be working on SOMETHING. Plot twist: perhaps they get to try their chops on a Mario & Luigi sequel since AlphaDream is no more.
Golden Sun never struck me as anything but a substandard JRPG. It’s really just forgettable. It’s like a knock off of FF and DQ.
@LUIGITORNADO
It's a good effort of an RPG, with the biggest drawback IMO being the low difficulty given the sheer amount of options available to the player. The game would benefit from a "Hard Mode" where the class system can shine through brilliantly.
My bet is a remake. I don't believe they have the skills to pull of a new game. (Unless they just go with a new world altogether.)
Dark Dawn's puzzles were WAY too easy, and the story covered around a tutorial's worth of content while ignoring the giant interesting thing happening right in front of you! (Baffling decision!).
I found my old original DS when I moved houses a few weeks ago and just finished The Lost Age. Played it every day at my commute to work and loved every minute of it! I think I ended up with 40 hours in total and I used about 35 minutes on the final boss (not dullahan as I didn't have all the djinns)
It's my in my top 3 games for sure and I would gladly pay for a remake or a new game for the switch.
I could easily see them doing an Advance Wars style remake of the first two games. Still waiting on Advance Wars though...
Hopefully we're getting something new, or even old but new. Always baffled me no one else has tried to emulate the character ability based dungeon puzzles in other RPGs. Easily the best dungeon designs I've ever played.
I remember this game bored the crap out of me. It didn't click at all. But all RPGs of ages past need re-releasing, so hopefully fans will get it sometime.
@LUIGITORNADO Except it has way more interesting dungeon design than either of those series had up to that point. I found them to just be generally more engaging than either series you mentioned.
I remember beating the first game, while collecting all the Djinn, and I copied the code exactly, but no matter how many times I tried entering it in, the second one wouldn't work. I don't know if this was an emulator issue, but I had no means of connecting the two games otherwise, so I simply never played the second game. I hope this is hinting at the series coming back, because I will replay the first game again, find a way to get a code that works, and clear the rest of the series!
Don't you dare, don't you dare give me hope!
@LUIGITORNADO I feel exactly the same way. There are other popular series that I don't like but I at least get, but I honestly never understood all the immense hype around Golden Sun.
Wish these games would get remakes. I've never played them. I don't think i would play them how they look now on a switch. Maybe if they were on 3ds, but not switch
I sort of doubt they would make a new one I think the 6th gen is was a different time (in that they could freely make a big scope game on smaller harder with lower budget).
Like Skip with Chibi Robo or Alphadream with Mario & Luigi (sort of) a lot of these smaller 3rd parties that historically worked with Nintendo aren't in a strong position.
I'd wager Camelot probably prefer making Mario Sports to making a big RPG that players may not necessarily like or buy.
As much as I'm looking forward to the BotW sequel and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, this is where I want to see Monolith (or maybe even Grezzo), working on a full 3D remake of Golden Sun.
Golden Sun Remake/ New Game on Switch? YES, PLEASE. Or at least I'm hoping that's whats gonna happen.
On one hand, it is nice to see Camelot still cares about this series. But on the other hand, I'm not getting my hopes up for a forth one. At the very least, I feel like this might be a similar case to that shocking reveal of the upcoming Mega Man Battle Network collection where maybe they'll release all of them to a single cartridge. (Or just the first two. Either option's fine by me) Even a remake combining the first two together would be amazing.
