Re: Pokémon: Let's Go Sells 3 Million Copies In First Week, Becomes Fastest-Selling Game On Switch

Hughesy

@JaxonH I have played the game. I bought it for my bros birthday and played it with him for a few hours and found the whole experience dull, just like I found Pokemon Go dull. They've also made the battles even easier, super effective moves just destroy the other Pokemon in one. I think my dad could play this and never lose a battle.

I'm happy people are enjoying it, but if this is what Pokemon games are going to become then I won't be playing them anymore. I've never understood the argument that it was made for causal gamers so they understand what to do. I was 7 years old when Pokemon Red came out and had no problem understanding it.

Re: Nintendo's System Specs Have Always Been A "Big Barrier" For Bethesda

Hughesy

Problem is still far too often games "aren't possible on Switch" This will happen more in the next few years.

Games from last gen are easy to do but current gen ones are a lot harder. Sure we could have a Switch Pro that could play certain games, but that would split the community. Developers wouldn't develop for it, look at the tiny list the new 3DS games that are released. Because the install size is small, they don't see the money in it.

Re: Video: Even Menu Controls Are Challenging In The Switch Version Of Dark Souls

Hughesy

The amount of times I've pressed the wrong button. I should be used to it, as it's just the normal control scheme Dark Souls has always used.

The one thing I want changing, that's the audio. Why has the audio been compressed so much? The instal size is the same as the original, so what is going on with it. Using the Switch speakers it's fine, because they are poor anyway, but using TV, sound system or headphones and the audio is terrible.

Re: Random: Katamari Director Wasn't Impressed With Mario Or Zelda On Switch

Hughesy

Well I guess you can't please everyone.

Not sure I should talk about this here, but I will anyway. When the Switch and Zelda came out I was suffering from depression and had been for 2 months. Meds and counselling did nothing for me. Then I started playing BOTW and started feeling happy, the fact that I found it fun when I had no motivation to play or do anything before it says a lot.

By the time I finished the game I wasn't on meds or counselling, which shows the power of gaming to help people in a positive way and I've been in a good place ever since.

Re: Telltale Games Begins Majority Studio Closure With Mass Layoffs

Hughesy

Some of the staff seem relieved, they were treated as sub humans. 7 day weeks, unpaid overtime that they were expected to do. Not being given enough time to make games, it was all about getting games out of the door as fast as possible. No communication from bosses or any organisation. Even now the communications guy hasn't been told what is going on, all he knows is he has 1 week left before he's gone. He wasn't told this was coming.

All of this isn't just happening at Telltale, it's a problem in the gaming industry as a whole, which is why they want unions.

A friend of mine was a game developer and I watched him go from being a happy outgoing guy, to a miserable recluse. Thankfully he got out and now develops software. He always wanted to make games, but good developers/publishers are few and far between.

Re: Soapbox: We Like To Grumble, But Nintendo Switch Online Is Actually A Very Generous Offer

Hughesy

Provide proper in-game voice chat, allow us to setup parties so we can easily get into games together, you know stuff that other online services offer, then I might stop grumbling.

If you're going to force paid online gaming, then you need a robust online experience.
In game chat is already possible in Fortnite, although it's not the best it's a lot better than having to use a phone app. If I wanted to use my phone for voice chat is just use Skype or Discord

Re: Random: Fortnite Has Supposedly Contributed To Five Percent Of Divorces In The UK

Hughesy

@Romeo-75 You don't think Fortnite is popular? Christ, go look at the player count and then come back here and try and say that with a straight face. It's popular with everyone, when I join random teams only once has one of them been a kid. I've even teamed up with a guy in his 50s

I met my girl friend because of this game, she's in her early 20s and I'm in my late 20s

Re: Nintendo Hasn't Revealed Its Full 2018 Lineup, Says Outgoing President Tatsumi Kimishima

Hughesy

Powerful isn't the word I'd use, slim is more accurate.
It seems stupid to not announce games during the biggest show of the year where lots of eyes are watching. If like me you have no interest in Smash, or Pokemon Go Switch then it was a pretty disappointing E3.

I still love my Switch obviously, but not striking whilst the iron is hot seems like a mistake, you need go keep getting more people to buy the console, with such a slim E3 that's not going to happen.

Re: Nintendo Is Considering A Successor To The 3DS According To Its New President

Hughesy

@N64SNESU Not really, especially with the joy cons disconnected. Compared to my n3ds XL it's not that much bigger. Not sure what part is fragile, I guess if you don't look after stuff then you will break it, but then that means you also break your mobile phone.
Battery life isn't an issue, most people these days have portable chargers because phones suck so much battery. My Switch is almost exclusively used as a portable as my 3DS has been retired.

Re: Review: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (Switch)

Hughesy

@kirbygirl I mean I love high end graphics and resolution, that's why I own so many systems. But I knew what I was getting when I got the Switch, gaming is about having fun, I have fun gaming on pretty much anything with proper controls. Considering what the Switch is, I think it does great and quite often punches above what should be possible on the system.

Re: Review: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (Switch)

Hughesy

@sixrings Yes because I have a 4K TV. But if that bothers you then it was silly to buy a Switch. It's comparable to a last gen console, getting 1080p with all games is extremely hard, even for the og Xbox One. If you want the best graphics and resolution then buy something that matches your needs.

I have an Xbox One X, PS4 Pro and PC, but I still love gaming on my Switch as I know it's limitations.

Re: Review: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (Switch)

Hughesy

@sixrings Zelda BOTW doesn't run at 1080p and that's a first party game.
Nintendo didn't develop this game, so no it's not their problem. Cartoon graphics doesn't equal easier to render, quite often it requires more than a realistic game if you are using lots of effects and post processing. I'd suggest before commenting on what is easier or harder to render you either do some research or mess about in the Unreal engine and have a go at coding a game yourself.

It amazes me the amount of Switch owners that worry about graphics and resolution. Surely you know when buying a Switch it's going to be highly limited as a hybrid console. It doesn't turn into a monster when docked, it's still using the same hardware as handheld, just with higher clocks.
