Beyond Good & Evil is an iconic game, and it's been known for a number of years that a new entry in the series has been on the agenda. For a long time, however, all we had were snippets of abandoned concepts and promises that a new entry was still part of Ubisoft's long-term plan.
In recent times, however, well-known and highly respected developer Michel Ancel (the creative force behind the original and franchises such as Rayman) has been releasing Instagram posts of concept art, pretty much confirming that it's real and on the agenda right now.
Well, now the official Beyond Good & Evil Facebook page has confirmed that development is happening, with Michel Ancel working with the Ubisoft Montpellier studio. It's a highly regarded team, with the likes of Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends and ZombiU on its record.
If you've been waiting for news about BG&E... well, here you go! We are delighted to confirm that Michel Ancel is currently working with the Ubisoft Montpellier Studio on a new Beyond Good & Evil game.
It's exciting that it's been confirmed, though it could potentially be quite some time before we learn more. It is rather intriguing for Nintendo's fans for multiple reasons; there were those rumours of it being an NX exclusive earlier in the year which may be incorrect, but nevertheless it has a development team with experience of Nintendo hardware. Ubisoft has also, so far, been vocal in its support of NX, though that's the norm - it also backed the Wii U in a big way initially before quickly withdrawing.
In any case, are you excited that the ambiguity is over and a new Beyond Good & Evil is confirmed? Let us know.

Nice to hear. Hopefully we'll see it on the NX, exclusive or not.
The original Beyond Good & Evil is free on PC this month for Ubi30 members, for anyone interested.
Coming exclusively to the App Store.
Remember, Ancel confirmed this game was in pre-production. You won't get to play this until holiday 2018 at the earliest, probably not until 2019.
At last! We have great news today! Can not wait to see it on the NX (I have a good feeling it will be. It suits Nintendo and Ubisoft well)
hi everyone i just want do friends hete
Cue silence for the next 7 years in 3... 2... 1...
hi Equinox
As long as it's on a Nintendo platform.
hi Equinox how are you?
STOP TEASING US!
Never played the original, been trying to buy it for my GC recently. Looking forward to playing it for the first time.
No rush though. I'm sure I have about 2 years before this comes out.
I doubt it would of been announced like this is it was to be a Nintendo exclusive. Still, I can't wait to play it as I'm currently halfway through my BG&E HD run (played the GC version years ago).
@HappyMaskedGuy LOL, extra film to take take pictures will be a micro transaction.
@avril321 hello, welcome to Nintendo life 😁
Cue the decade long wait for the thing.
It's only entering pre production now so I'm not expecting it for another three years. I think people need to accept that it's not coming to the NX. At E3 Ubisoft made it very clear that they will not be supporting the system. None of their major titles were announced for the system.
So, a great, at the time ridiculously underappreciated game gets a sequel we know nothing about, potentially on a great, currently ridiculously underappreciated console's follow-up system we know nothing about... That's very undefined, so forgive me if I... Aw hell, I'm excited, I admit it.
I don't remember Ubisoft "quickly withdrawing" from Wii U support.
Still not gonna get my hopes up...we have been waiting for this game for a while. When they start putting out gameplay and a release date I'll get excited.
This game probably won't see the light of day for at least 2 or 3 years. A whole lot can happen in two years.
@RainbowGazelle
You are right, they hung on longest. No mainstream developer will prolong backing a system with the poor sales and performance like the WiiU.
Business is not a video game.
A lot of Nintendo fans hate UbiSoft. On this forum I have used up plenty words defending Ubi against the overwhelming majority of hate.
Well that was unexpected.
Expect it to be delayed for release on other systems!@LeRaposa Nintendo only announced one game for NX at E3; guess they're not supporting the system either.
Hooray! Carry on Ubi -_-
@LeRaposa Another three years? It has a chance of arriving before the NX reveal then.
I have the original´s HD version on PS3. Time to finally start playing it then.
@Loui I'm inclined to agree, but I also hope that not mentioning platforms means that it is coming to NX and Ubisoft is just waiting for Nintendo to reveal the system. I'm also tempted to go full conspiracy theory and argue that Ubisoft knows people want it on NX, and that this is a sign the reveal is soon, because otherwise they'd risk the hype dying.
And don't hey mean, "Ubisoft Confirms That Development is BACK Underway on a New Beyond Good & Evil Game"?
It may just be me, but it seemed that Ubisoft didn't completely withdraw from the Wii U. Seemed that Ubisoft and Sega were about the only ones left (besides indie developers) releasing anything for it...even if it wasn't big huge projects (which I can see why they wouldn't waste the time and money to release big projects for it).
Other than that, and back to the topic, it's nice to finally see that they are serious about making the sequel...it's been a very long time, which makes me wonder if this is why they re-released the HD version of BGAE...just to see if the fanbase was still there for it. Glad to know! Too bad we probably won't get our hands on it until 2018 at the least.
I never played the first game (No regular access to systems that had it). I've researched the franchise, and it looks like something I'd enjoy. I'll be keeping an eye on this.
Well, yes... yes I'm excited. Can I haz part 1 2 plz?1
Hyped!!
This game will be an NX exclusive...
Beyond Good and Evil 2: Amiibo Festival.
I suspect this may be Michel Ansel's swan song. He'll probably have had it with Ubisoft by the time BG&E2 is done. Hopefully it will be even more beautiful than the first BG&E! Ubisoft seems to be touting the NX as a return to form, so it seems like they're going to be all in for 9th gen with Nintendo.
@LeRaposa lol what planet are you from?ubisoft already said they was supporting the nx lol even says that in the article lol read before you post.even announced just dance for nx at e3 they can't talk about other nx games till Nintendo announces it.lol
@HappyMaskedGuy you always so negative
@avril321 Welcome to Nintendolife
@MarcelRguez Thanks. I didn't even know what Ubi30 was but since I have a U Play account on my Wii U for Rayman and Child of Light signing in wasn't a problem. Not sure if I'll play it again but I'll encourage my kids to.
No problem. Glad they have a chance to try it!
I doubt it will be NX exclusive after the backlash Ubisoft got with Rayman Legends and the Wii U.
great to hear this sequel is finally happening! Really doubt that this will be a NX exclusive, but I do hope we get it on the NX. When the system is finally shown off, I do hope this and Watch Dogs 2 is coming to the NX, I would be very happy with that
Laura might finally find her peace!
#Where'sBG&E2
People, do you remember Destructoid's rumor that the game was in development for the NX, and curiously enough, Ubisoft asked that the article was taken down?
Isn't that a little bit too much of a coincidence?
I don't care if its a multiplat or exclusive, but I hope it comes to a Nintendo system.
Well one thing is certain.... it'll be fun watching 200,000 forum dwellers melt down over this if it's an NX exclusive.
Beyond Bed & Bath.
@jimi Actually the reason the whole exclusivity was canned was due to the poor sales of ZombiU .
@jimi It was more.then likely due to advertising. They didn't want to have to do two seperate advertising campaigns, one for Wii U and then one for all the other systems.
As for ZombiU it did pretty bad sale wise according to Ubisoft hence why they went back on the exclusivity deal with Legends, they had to recoup the money they lost on ZombiU somehow.
Have to agree with others here. Ubisoft has been one of the few major companies - if not the only - with continued WiiU support. They got a lot of unfair hate after Rayman, which was a sound business decision. I don't care about exclusives - we got it and it was good. At the end of the day, companies need to make money.
I regret having never played the first one on the Gamecube, but if we can have Gamecube VC next generation Ubisoft could put it on the service.
@Joeynator3000 Actually Mature Amiibo might actually be a real thing!
@jimi It was from Ubisoft themselves, I belive Nintendolife even did an article about it. Michel Ancel even backed it up. He said that the main reason for Rayman going multiplatform at the last minute was because of the disappointing sales of ZombiU.
As for PS4 and Xbox One owners not caring about bugs and stuff check your sources on that one. If anything Nintendo owners are less likely to cry about a broken game.
@SKTTR If you have a PS3 or Xbox 360 there is HD remake of the first one on PSN and XBLA.
@jimi And I am done here. You aren't listening and now you just want to argue. Typical Nintendo fanboy that this community has become. Such a shame.
@Tasuki
I have to agree with @jimi. I can't recall any huge, tentpole Nintendo game being broken or buggy out of the box. The only bug I can recall, at the moment, being anything deal breaking would have to be that weird Skyward Sword bug that erased saved data (or whatever the heck it did). I mean, if you believe those who play Nintendo games are less likely to cry about broken games, what examples do you point to? If anything, Nintendo owners tend to be the most vocal if a game isn't up to what they feel Nintendo's standards should be, content wise. So I find it hard to believe they wouldn't be vocal about bugs or an unstable game
@avril321 Bienvenido! Enjoy your time here.
@jimi https://www.engadget.com/2013/07/08/ubisoft-rules-out-zombiu-sequel-citing-unprofitable-performance/
There you go. A sequel was ruled out, and Rayman Legends was arbitrarily delayed after it was already finished on Wii U to make it multiplatform, just because of ZombiU sales.
@jimi I was just as baffled about what happened back then as you are. And for whatever it's worth, PC gaming is much less of a Wild West situation today than the 90s. The PC gaming market is arguably dominating and directing the 8th and 9th console generations as much as mobile. (With Nintendo looking towards mobile ideas, and Sony/Microsoft looking towards PC gaming ideas) I remember even as far back as 2000, Sony's representatives would state in interviews that they "wanted the PS2 to function more like a PC". Maybe that was just a marketing stance, though, considering this:

Kind of a difficult read, but interesting.
Yes, its officially now! Hopefully NX bound!
Such overrated game though... I played it and don't get it what's so great about it haha. Well good for the fans though. Enjoy when it's released
hi everyone
I'm looking forward for this!
